I guess it’s kinda hard to define. I don’t want a “one trick pony” like the thief that just stealths in and backstabs over and over. I’m looking for a profession that allows you to be effective in PvP through a variety approaches and tactics. Hope that makes sense.
If you’re struggling making Engineer work in PvP, then you probably don’t want a class that has a variety of skills and tactics, because they require time and effort to learn and become skilled in.
One trick ponies are easy to play, Engineers are not, so you’ve basically just said “I want something complex to play that isn’t too complex to play”.
No, I’m willing to put the time and effort into learning the profession provided that there is benefit in doing so. Spending a lot of time and effort getting really getting good at the Engineer currently just gets you to a point where you can almost be as effective as some of the “roll face across keyboard” professions.
If I sink a lot of time and practice in a profession I would like to be able to excel in PvP as a result. Not just barely hold my own.

I left the game months ago after it became clear that Anet wasn’t really trying to fix any of the Eng’s issues or change anything to make them viable.
Well now a friend wants to start playing GW2 with me but based on the forums it’s still clear that Anet doesn’t care about this prof so rather than fight with the frustration I was hoping someone who’s played a number of different professions can suggest one that is similar to the Eng in terms of having a variety of interesting weapons and abilities but that is viable in PvP? Thanks in advance!
I gave up sPvP all together and went back to League of Legends until they do something about the Thief/Guardian/Mesmer issue. Just not worth playing anything other profession until they do. Reading this makes me sigh and wonder if Kha’Zix is worth the 6300…

No, leave them as bundles. I don’t want the same limitations on them as other weapons. I want to continue to quick swap, etc.
Rocketboots and run to a different point. I don’t even bother trying anymore.
Bumping in agreement. I’m so tired of seeing those three classes dominating PvP that I’m about ready to … go back to WoW… shudder… Never would have thought I’d ever be thinking that WoW would have more balanced PvP than this game…
And they wanted to make it an Esport. lol.
They may have a high skill cap but I think I’d agree that perhaps they still need to be balanced towards a lower skill player. I always cringe when I see too many Eng’s on my sPvP team. You may occasionally get one that scores high but the majority end up near the bottom of the pile and the odds of a loss with them around just seem much higher than with some other classes on the team.
This is a good example of why it’s not reasonable for Anet to keep sigils from applying to kits. How are they supposed to try and balance toolbelt abilities when the damage that they do is conditional based on what you have equipped during the attack?
All it does is force engineers to try and make elaborate macros or crazy finger magic in order to be switched to specific weapons for specific attacks. How can a framework like that effectively be balanced???
Eng is effective so long as you don’t bother with kits… makes them kinda shallow but that’s what we’re currently limited to…
Warriors outclassed in sPvP? Seriously? Try playing an Eng in sPvP sometime and then talk to us about outclassed…
My opinion: Underpowered Engineer - It is realy bad at pvp and pve
in Engineer

Those who are saying the Eng is fine in PvP have probably not used many other classes. A good way for anyone to see how Eng does in sPvP is just to watch where they fall in the match rankings at the end of each match. I know there will be a lot who post how they are always 1st but in most sPvP matches you rarely see Eng’s in the top half of the rankings.
I’d say this is one of the more critical issues they should look into for the Engineer. Unless we waste a lot of our build on condition removal we get eaten alive by the condition damage.
