Freezing When GW2 is in the Background
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: Phoenix Jaydefire.2538
After the update today, I was playing the game, alt-tabbed, and my PC had a graphical glitch moments later which screwed up the screen and forced me to restart. I turned my PC back on, logged into the game again, and alt-tabbed while waiting for a loading screen. My PC froze and again I had to restart.
I updated my graphics card driver to make sure that was not the issue. For a few hours, I did other things and my PC didn’t freeze once. I logged in to Guild Wars 2 again, played for about 15 minutes, and alt-tabbed. My PC froze yet again. This only started happening since the update and so far it has only happened when Guild Wars 2 is in the background.
For reference, I am using the 64-bit client, I have Windows 10 and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 Ti graphics card, and, until today, I haven’t had a single problem running Guild Wars 2 on Windows 10 (I upgraded about two months ago).
Any idea what could be causing this problem and/or if it is indeed related to the game (it seems to me it is considering the update and it only occurring when Guild Wars 2 is running)?
Thanks.
This bug happened to me twice today. The map successfully completes the Battle in Tarir meta event, killing all the Octovines, but the meta event text states that, “An Exalted sacrificed itself to save Tarir from the Mordrem.” In addition, the meta event chest, which is supposed to give you 75 lumps of aurilium and 7 exalted keys for a win, only gives you 15 lumps of aurilium and 1 key for the failure, and also lowers your participation to 33%, no matter what it actually is.
I didn’t have the foresight to take a screenshot of the chest I received, but here’s one of my actual participation (113%), the meta event fail text, and yet, the grand exalted chests have spawned below Tarir, indicating we succeeded.
Please fix this. For people farming aurilium for Exalted or ascended weapons, losing 60 for half the meta events really does matter.
hi, i tried this solo and its impossible, you should tell that people before they waste hour of their lives.. also if you retry last boss fast after dying you might lose part of the island, and then the reality thingie will just float in air and do nothing, and sometimes i could not suck my mates into the blue thingie, my final score : 4 deaths cause i kittened up, 11 retrys because of bug
It is not impossible solo. I have done it solo on an elementalist, ranger, and revenant. Many other people have done it solo as well. Those are known bugs, and there are several others as well. They usually don’t occur if you don’t die. Something about resetting the fights seems to cause them.
Some tips:
- Don’t stand near Mordremoth’s eye (the orange ball with the black aura). The orbs it sends out can stack a lot of torment.
- If you’re having trouble completing a ‘cast’ on the rift, get off it and let Mordremoth use his line of electricity AoE, then immediately dodge in and start the cast. You should have enough time.
- During the flight phase, fly directly from one updraft to another, and don’t circle the entire platform. Constantly use your forward lean technique if you have it. If you see a rock headed for you, retract your glider, fall a few feet, and then open it up again.
Other than that, it’s just being smart, dodging his fury swipes, and constantly moving.
got all 4 maps 100%, still nothing. they said about fixes comming monday. its almost wednesday now, still nothing. same as fractal master collection. HELLO? CAN WE AT LEAST GET SOME INFO THAT SOMEONE WORKS ON IT?
We have gotten information, but not on this thread. The post about four responses above yours is a quote from a developer who addressed the issue in a different thread:
Edit: Missing bonus rewards is on track to ship with an upcoming patch. I believe they’re doing a bunch of testing to ensure we don’t have another issue like what I’m fixing today happen again.

For reference, that was posted four hours ago. I know it’s frustrating that they aren’t responding on this particular thread, but please read before you start “yelling.”
Do you know what causes this problem?
The problem is apparently that they did not separate completion of the newer maps (all of Magus Falls, Southsun Cove, Dry Top, and The Silverwastes) from central Tyria world completion. For instance, if you had 61% central Tyria completion, then completed all four Magus Falls maps, then came back and began working in central Tyria again, you would get your original legendary world completion reward at about 75% world completion instead of 100% (this happened to someone). The newer maps seem to be counting toward central Tyria world completion, but not reflecting in the total percentage. So when any character who already has 100% (or perhaps X number of things that count toward it) completes on a newer map, they get nothing because the game doesn’t register past 100% world completion.
If you look at the list 4/9 classes give sufficient healing to be a healer.
This is the holy trinity. The number of options to play healer is less the half of the total classes, yet they design content that requires a dedicated healer. It is a forced trinity.
All classes should be able to damage on the level of an elementalist.
All classes should be able to heal on the level of an elementalist/druid/guardian.
All classes should be able to tank on the level of a warrior/guard.
It becomes a forced trinity when content cannot be completed without using certain classes.
All dungeons can be done with a party of 5 thieves.
Can the same be said for 10 thieves in a raid?
And if its about making raids super difficult content, then make it so 10 thieves with extremely well gear + tactics + builds can complete it.
You’re kidding, right? If all professions had similar damage, ability to heal, and ability to tank, then what’s the point of having different professions at all? People are supposed to want to try other professions for what they bring to the table, not stick with just one the entire time. Do you also think every profession should be able to reflect as efficiently as a mesmer or a guardian or have permanent stealth up-time like a thief?
And yes, dungeons can be completed with a full party of thieves but that’s hardly optimal. They can strip defiance and stealth through all the trash mobs, but they won’t have raw DPS or mass condition removal, hardly any might with absolutely no fire fields, etc.
Arah P1
We had a thief. The thief took quite a while to get to the Ancient Ooze, but we didn’t really think anything of it. We killed the ooze, four of us make it to the crystalline entities. The last person we’re waiting on is the thief.
The thief got halfway through the run and stopped for a while. Finally I ask what they’re doing and it turns out they’re waiting for Shadow Refuge. I said, “You know you have two other ways to stealth.” They replied, “I know,” and continued standing there until the recharge was up. One person asks if they’re new to thief and they reply, “Yes.” That person leaves because they don’t have time for running with a new thief through Arah.
The thief finally makes it to the cliff, dragging two drakes with them. The thief promptly dies. One person tries to res and dies in the process. Me and the final person stand back so we don’t aggro the drakes and can safely res after. Thief says, “Good job resing” and then leaves the group. We res the third and last person in our group and they say, “I don’t know what’s up with them. They’re normally much better than this. Sorry guys, gotta stick with my friend,” and then leaves the group as well.
Bonus: I ran into another Shadow Refuge addict in Twilight Arbor yesterday that insisted on waiting for the 60- (or 48-second traited, I wasn’t really counting) cooldown.
Thief PSA: You can blast Smoke Screen and Black Powder for stealth. That is all.
