Would anyone be opposed to a purely cosmetic change of race? For instance, I would be a Human, but visually I would look like an Asuran? Every NPC in game, all the of the quests, everything would still consider me a human, but I would just look like an Asuran.
I would be totally okay with this. The only issue I can see it causing would be racial abilities in WvW. I don’t think that is a big deal though. You can either leave it be, or if needed you could change those abilities only.
The main reason they need a race change system so badly is because if you have put time and gems (bag space) into a character you really should not have to reroll the entire character just to make it look like another race. I would agree that something like that was fairly understandable in 2004 when MMOs were just starting to boom… but it is almost 2016 and quality of life features like this are pretty much expected of a successful triple-A quality MMOs.
PS: I want to throw more money at you ArenaNet, please let me.
The biggest problem with the mystic toilet is that the RNG system is horrid.
Just take the average drop rate of X item and make the mats required to get that item on average the exact cost to guarantee getting it. Seriously, just make them recipes. Still a gold sink, but less tedious and annoying.
Also, I have had 32 flushes in a row and not a single Mystic Clover before… yeah, GJ making sure there is always a chance to make your players feel cheated and hate this game’s grind.
Ok OP, I have been playing WoW since beta. I have been playing Guild Wars 2 on and off since beta as well. I often bring people over from WoW to GW2 in an attempt to show them something different they might just love. So, I also often end up having to train/explain to many of them all of the big differences. Here are the biggest two I know of, hopefully this helps your transition:
WoW Abilities vs Guild Wars 2 Skills
WoW, even after the ability pruning done in WoD has 2-4x as many key binds per character. A lot of my friends who started GW2 thought that each proffesion (class in WoW) didn’t really have as many options in combat as in WoW. This is simply not true.
The biggest difference between these two games in combat is that in GW2, skills do many different things. Their tooltips are loaded with information, a lot of which you might not even understand at first. GW2 is all about stringing together your skills with other skills (and other peoples skills) in order to get the effect you want. This is a very different mindset you have to get used to, and imo, the hardest part of getting “good” at GW2. Knowing all of the professions, their skills, and the animations that play during those skills, is ridiculously important.
I believe it is also important to note that in GW2, many of the skills have semi-long animations. They take time, and sometimes take over your movement. While WoW has some abilities like this, most are far more “responsive”. You essentially are waiting on the global cooldown in WoW, where as in GW2 you are waiting on the skill cast/animation to finish. Because of this, you should know that it is possible to queue another skill while one is already casting. For instance, as a thief you have a skill that drops a smoke field and a skill that leaps forward. If you leap through a smoke field in GW2 that combo makes you stealth a short while. You can hit both of these keybinds in order, and just wait for it all to play out.
WoW Positioning vs GW2 Positioning
WoW and GW2 combat both deal with positioning. However, even though it may seem trival at first, GW2 is far more complex. Your dodge key is extremely important, in many battles, you can avoid 90-100% of the damage by simply using dodge correctly.
It is important to note that GW2 collision is more complex as welll; it plays into positioning. In WoW, if you can cast on a target (he is in LoS and range) your target gets hit with your abilities, period. In GW2, you can use skills when you are not in LoS or range. If your target gets out of LoS/range in the middle of an attack it will be avoided. if they dodge or use evades they will avoid damage, and if a different enemy gets in from of a projectile attack they will take the damage instead of your original target.

Rarely is there more than 20 people in one area at a time. I would rather have a queue time, than literally nothing to do in WvW…
Be careful what you wish for, you could end up with 2 hour queue, those are so fun…
And telling everyone to goto t1 (which I guess they can’t right now but I keep seeing people saying ‘goto t1/2/3 to solo roam’ and I have to laugh and cry. If everyone tells people there’s nothing in lower tiers, then it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. tbh though, no matter what tier you are in, there will naturally be times where a borderland or 3 have nothing at all going on. That just means you need to actively stir up trouble to attract attention, but depending on tier, that attention could be a small group or a map queue. Sometimes have to make the fights come to you.
I am not saying people should switch to tier 1. I am simply saying that there are servers where WvW is almost non-existent, and that is an issue that needs to be tackled at some point. Ideally sooner rather than later.
Well there is no reward in wvw, you just play for fun untill you get bored to death cuz this game mode is stale and with no future.
This is why I’m jumping ship. Getting so bored. Just jumped on the forums to see what kind of hoopla was going on about applied strength/fortitude removal after a friend posted about it on facebook….
Me three. Though I heard about the free upgrades and got a bit more interested and logged in again. I poked around a bit in WvW after seeing my server in the lead this weekend, but chat was silent and no commander on the field. /shrugs
It is really depressing. I came back a few weeks ago with about 10 friends because of HoT announcement and such. WvW is so dead all of them already left the game again.
I really do not understand how ArenaNet can not realize this is a huge issue. I would think the goal would be to constantly sustain a user base AND try to pull more people in/back.
But it seems like even after 2 years, not much has changed to make WvW more accessible/rewarding for people. So almost no one does it besides the T1 servers.
I’ve seen people log in, go ‘No commander? I’m out til tomorrow then’ 5 seconds later, commander and zerg returns to map. I’ve seen people complain no zerg, commander had dc’d. I’ve seen people every 15 seconds ask if there was a zerg, then immediately leave, only for someone else to come in and do the same thing. If all those people had waited a couple mins, they’d have enough for a small zerg to get things started >.< In many of these cases, we were tied up trying to defend our stuff and they could have helped in the mean time, but nope, they couldn’t be bothered. This will only get worse too…
And t1 is not all or most of the WvW population in the game. I, and many others, don’t want to be in T1/2/3. We had far more fun in the tiers under there, people that weren’t ‘zerglings’ but left from t5 to t1, have said they were bored a lot. Big battles are fun occasionally, but eh, small scale fights are far more skill and fun for many.
Telling others that almost no one does WvW besides T1 is part of the whole problem with the server imbalance. So much is so out of whack now because ‘only T1 matters’, and all that server stacking bs. But no I guess you and the rest are right, outside of t1/t2 and I suppose now t3, nothing else matters at all, players don’t exist, should just close all the servers and merge into the top tiers huh? Would just LOVE those queues… this is frustrated sarcasm btw, if someone thinks I want anything of the sort, I have some choice words for them.
My bad. Okay, more accurately. On Sanctum of Rall (Very High Population), I can walk around for an hour in any of the maps and see about 5 people total on most occasions.

Well, one of the biggest issues I see on SoR is that we are very often outnumbered. Almost any time of day I can get into WvW without any queue time. It is fairly erratic.
A chunk of our server is actually composed of game devs, who rolled here because of its dedication by ArenaNet. That being said, most of us work 60-80 hours a week randomly. It is not something steady unless we are in crunch. So, the server matchmaking is likely not going to ever be able to predict that.
It really is true what some others have said. SoR very often is fighting 3 to 1 odds, holding on as best we can, sometimes winning, sometimes losing.
More importantly, when it is literally 6-15 of us defending or assaulting vs ~50 SoS, SoS has gotten very VERY good at using the loading limits and culling in their favor. They sit at their door so we run up only seeing maybe 1 or 2 of them. They can see all of us, and then when we get close, BAM. I am not complaining, you guys are doing a seriously good job at utilizing systems, even if unintended, at your disposal.
The truth is, we have good players. However, our lack of consistency in player count and dedicated commanders has really put us in a bind. We will lose this time, likely win our next matchup, but as of this moment, i can not ever see our server moving beyond tier 2-3 with our current issues. What we need is more guilds who are on consistently. They need to communicate, and actually work together. The times we actually have people on, it basically is just a follow the blue dot Zerg.
Thanks for the memories SoS, good luck in T2.
