- Love small scale/organised combat. Tried switching to Engi/Rev since Ele was reduced to healbot status in recent patches but hoping for better things in future/next expansion. Used to duel a lot pre HoT, looking for help to get back into duelling in current meta.
I would love this. I have an EU account (~40ms) and an NA account (~160ms) playing from London UK.
Also a tipp is surging rune.
I’ve been running a ‘max’ boon duration build using Rune of Surging and Sigil of Concentration.
I also feel that Ele’s mobility is comparatively down due to other professions having their mobility increased. When solo roaming it can sometimes be a struggle to chase, but in small groups Tempest is beast.
I prefer to play D/D but D/W tends to be more effective.
+1 Just happened to me too. Entire team crashed on Legacy 30s into the match. Windows 10 here – if that matters.
A lot of good feedback in this thread, adding my thoughts:
Overloads: Using these feels so underwhelming, the cooldowns are too punishing, I feel as though I could be more effective by not Overloading. Some ideas for changes:
1. Being able to switch attunements while the channel is active
2. Having Stability applied in addition to or instead of Protection in the Grandmaster minor trait
3. Reducing the time taken to charge the overload and the cooldown afterwards
4. Making the Overload skills themselves more impactful. I.e. pulsing condition cleanse on water, pulsing AoE Stability on Earth, AoE Retaliation on Fire etc.
Rebound Elite: Again this feels really underwhelming and feels like it requires too much micromanagement. Some ideas for changes:
1. A stronger selfish effect, e.g. reduce next skill by 50% to self and 25% to allies
2. An AoE field that is displayed on the ground in which the next X number of skills benefit from reduced cooldown
3. An additional effect such as increase boon durations by 20%
4. Also increase cooldown of next enemy skill by 25%
Warhorn: My favourite part of the Tempest, a couple of tweaks that may be considered:
1. Earth 4 a blast finisher
2. Water 5 a larger AoE
Marmatt, good luck with your new role.
I think everyone appreciates that the issues of unbalanced matchups is pretty complicated. It’s associated with server population, coverage and the demographics of each server. Some server WvW populations are made up of predominantly WvW guilds, others (such as my own server SBI) are made up of predominantly PvX players and others are somewhere in between. The demographics of each server is a large part of how much they participate in WvW on a day to day basis.
In my view all of these issues need to be addressed in some way. Some preferred solutions that I have read on these forums:
Population – Reduce the number of servers, starting by removing three only and see what impact this has. This will be very unpopular with people on those servers and I fully appreciate that. If it means renaming all other servers so be it.
Coverage – Time slice a day into 3 or 4 segments and award points on which server manages the most PPT in each segment to help cap ‘runaway PPT’ for those servers who have more coverage.
Participation – Better personal rewards to attract more people into WvW as a form of endgame. More diverse rewards for diverse play e.g scouting/defending. Better incentives for PvX guilds to spend more time in WvW than they already do by introducing guild based rewards in WvW.
Marmatt, I really hope that you are able to express to Anet that simply adding a new map in HoT without addressing some of the underlying fundamental issues is only a temporary solution to breathing new life into WvW.

My guild had a small competition to create some of our own, you can check them out here: http://knights-templar.com/forum_threads/2010276
I used to be a big Celestial fan. Then swapped to a high toughness / condi duration reduction build inspired by Serane (The person Hamster is referring to in the above post). It’s very effective.

Also really dissapointed by this change. I feel it is really important that as a customer I am able to aquire the exact number of gems needed to buy an item on the gemstore. I agree with the suggestions made already, either:
1) Include a field on the new UI where we can specify a custom number of gems/gold
2) Revert back to the old UI
3) Provide an option to toggle between the old and new UI
I believe in being a responsible consumer and I just can’t bring myself to buy gems anymore as it might be used as a metric to show support for this change.

I agree with a lot of the things you’ve said. The only people I would say this doesn’t apply to is people or guilds who move for fresh fights, GvG or a new environment to roam in. There’s nothing wrong with that, but that just validates your point even further, because those people are not moving in search of a better holistic WvW experience and in a sense have already given up on the intended WvW mechanics.
Disclaimer – I’m someone who has been on SBI since day one. But I gave up on the ‘ppt game’ a few months ago and my WvW experience has been a lot more fun since. That’s probably not the way things are supposed to be.

He runs a similar build to mine when he goes bunker and I had a conversation with him about it like a couple weeks back. He has lower over all stats but it still works for him. I run 2.3k power, 24-25k hp with vit stacks, 38% crit rate, 188% crit dmg, 2.5k armor, 688 condi dmg, and 712 healing power.
Wow, that stat spread looks awesome. I’m currently playing with this build which gives me:
~2.1k Power
30% Crit. Chance
180% Crit. Damage
2.7k Armour
~17.5k HP
Guess I need to go back to the drawing board!
Enjoying the videos Mbelch, looking forward to more.
Hi John, thanks for making this thread.
Firstly, I agree with people who are suggesting going back to read some of the threads that already exist on how to re-haul scoring. Many of the people who made those threads might not be around anymore so they can’t contribute to this thread. It is also evident in this thread just how many responses are from people re-posting ideas they have previously posted elsewhere.
I support the ideas being discussed around splitting the day into phases. I feel it is important for each phase to award 1st/2nd/3rd place rather than a ‘winner takes all’ as it encourages a fight between 2nd and 3rd.
I also feel that it is important that scoring reflects active play. Today if a server flips an entire map and goes to bed while the other servers are also asleep they are rewarded for pretty much nothing.
To mitigate the effects of snowballing and stagnation I feel the introduction of a ‘special objectives’ for the 2nd and 3rd place servers could work. The aim of these objectives should be such that successfully completing the objective would help a 3rd/2nd place server to catch (but not surpass) the 2nd/1st place server. These special objectives could be things like; attain a number of stomps, escort a number of dolyaks, hold a keep for a certain period of time etc. things that an organised server can rally around to try and achieve and stay in the fight.
An entry from Knights Templar on SBI. Mailed the raw video file to the email address, but just sharing the YouTube version here:
+1 Guild Airships!
I think ArenaNet should seriously consider this as an opportunity to really innovate the concept of Guild Halls. Not only do Airships really fit the game thematically, I think they could potentially address a few points in a really elegant way:
Non-instanced? Could airships really exist in the real world and bypass the issue of trying to ‘fit’ them into maps. OK so we wouldn’t be able to land them, but they would be there, visible when you look up into the skies complete with guild emblems and upgrades visible to all.
Interaction with other guilds. This could make the idea that you are in a neighbourhood or in alliance with other guilds really dynamic and scalable.
Location matters. Airships could be ported to any map in the game and guilds would be free to make this choice based on RP, accessibility to specific areas (Orr or Frostgorge for example) or in line with seasonal or living story events (Dry Top / Zephyr Sanctum). Each map could also have a unique ‘mooring’ cost as well as unique bonuses – a very basic example could be that parking in a snowy map could reduce chill condition duration by 5%. These things could all make the location of your airship a meaningful choice that can change over time.
Unique upgrades and maintenance – a variety of visual customisations and upgrade options. Mats could be used to generate fuel to be used as a maintenance cost?
WvW- Airships being used in WvW to ferry supplies and guild mates? Provide AoE buffs? Using them in actual combat would probably be a step too far into dreamland.
John,
Let me start off by saying that it is so refreshing to see a developer ‘brainstorm’ like this on the WvW forums, thanks.
An Alliance system is certainly one solution to population imbalance issues, however I really believe that the issue of coverage is equally, if not more, influential. I think an Alliance system addresses both because a successful Alliance would take coverage into consideration when recruiting/forming. This point can be revisited when you move on to tackle coverage.
One thing stood out to me in your proposal, what happens if the guilds I am in choose difference Alliances? It would make sense that I can only play for one Alliance in each tournament, so really it’s up to each individual player to select which Alliance they are going to be a part of. This would be an issue for players who rep multiple guilds in WvW. For example, a player may have a ‘family’ guild who they like to WvW with every now and then, but also have a ‘hardcore’ WvW guild that they might raid with for a more competitive experience.
Also looking forward to watching your videos Mbelch.
It’s sad to see talented players leaving the game, a couple of D/D Ele friends on my server recently left for AA too
Chris, I am not 100% sure if this can be filed under QoL, I believe this is an enhancement to the current guild logo and armour functionality. If this proposal is not relevant here, I would be happy to re-post in a subsequent CDI.
Proposal Overview:
A guild outfit that can be created/changed by a ranked guild member, and then toggled on/off by all members representing the guild.
Goal of Proposal:
The game currently includes guild chest amour, back items and weapons. However guild members rarely use these during guild events, missions or WvW raids. The look of your character is a very personal thing and the cost of acquiring and regularly changing between your personal look and a guild uniform is too high in terms of gold, transmutation charges and time. This system will enable guild members to easy toggle between their personal look and a guild outfit at no personal cost.
Proposal Functionality:
A guild upgrade option to unlock the ability to create a complete guild outfit, the outfit can then be created by a guild member with sufficient rank by visiting the guild armour NPC. Guild members can then select this outfit via the outfits tabs in their hero panel.
Associated Risks:
I am unsure which skins and colours should be made available via the guild outfit creator, should this be based on the skins available to the individual creating the outfit, or from a set of standard skins and colours? Could additional skins or colours be ‘unlocked for guild’ rather than unlocked for your personal character?
Is the outfit tab the right place to be able to select the guild outfit? Would it be better to have the toggle option via the guild window instead?
Would a separate outfit have to be created for light/medium/heavy professions?
Many thanks for listening Anet, and special thanks to those in the team who worked the weekend to get the change in.
Anet, I’m really dissapointed about the fact that buying multiple Commander Tags will cost at a minimum 600g. I think the proposed system is too restrictive because of the amount of gold required and therefore won’t provide a way for Commanders to sufficiently organise themselves. For example, if there are two Commanders who have paid 300g each for the same coloured tag, they are no better off than the current system. What if the community decides that the blue tag will be used for the main group and the red tag should be used for havocing, but both Commanders on the map only have a blue tag?
You said in your presentation that you are waiting to see how the community organises themselves around usage of the different colours, but in the above scenario the community will still not be able to do that. I really feel that being able to switch colours on the fly is integral to the feature, so much so that I even feel that a cost higher than 300g could be justified if it included the ability to switch colours as standard and provide more squad management tools, but 600-1,200g is too far removed from acceptable pricing for such a limited feature.
It’s great to finally have tags as account bound and we are really grateful for that, but having to wait so long for an improvement to Commander Tags that is priced so unfairly and doesn’t sufficiently meet our requirements feels very bitersweet. I won’t be buying a tag because I just don’t think it is good value for money.

I am going to jump in here answer these as honestly as I am able.
- We can’t talk about that right now. Once the in-development features reach a state where we, as a company, are comfortable talking about them, we will.
- Some player requests are under development. What those are and when they will be completed, I can’t say at this time for reasons mentioned above.
- Devon is very busy with his job duties and only has limited time to devote to reading the forums. If he spent the time demanded of him responding to threads on the forums, his work would suffer. My job duties have me reading and reporting on the forums regularly to ensure that Devon and the rest of the team are aware of active concerns within the WvW community. I do this for other parts of the forum as well. As has been mentioned a multitude of times previously, our developers read the forums as much as they are able, but time prevents them from responding to everything they read.
Mark, first of all thanks a lot for posting.
Your first and second points are clear; if the company can’t talk about upcoming features until they have reached a certain state I can accept that as your policy.
However, that doesn’t mean you can’t communicate with us more than you have been. We know the team reads the forums but communication is a two way thing and I think there is scope for increased communication without breaking your company policy. A couple of examples of things that would help:
1. Can we get an indication when you communicate popular concerns to the team? This gives us confirmation that concerns have been heard and allows us as a community to manage and focus our discussion knowing that you are aware of a particular issue. Without something like this it is hard to know whether we should keep raising an issue to try and highlight its importance.
2. Is it possible for the team to let you know when an idea or suggestion made on the forums really stands out to them, so you can respond with a quick post to let us know the team liked it? Again this gives the suggestion some focus and players can rally around such ideas and have more meaningful discussion around it. Maybe the team could even feed questions back to the players? I have seen Evan do this on the PvP forums.
Is the above possible? Fine, you can’t tell you what features you are working on and when they are coming, I understand that. But I don’t think the current level of communication is sufficient and on balance there is greater communication on the PvE and PvP sub-forums. Would you agree with that?
/signed.
In addition it would be really nice to see some new features that make more of guilds claiming assets.
The Quartz and Sprocket nodes in my home instance haven’t re-spawned in what must be 3 days now. Also I can’t charge my Quartz at any skill point This is really frustrating as I am trying to craft some Celestial gear.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
All my characters are Asura so this is happening in the Applied Development Lab in Rata Sum.
Disclaimer – only been playing Ele (mainly D/D) for about 3 months so I missed out on the glory days. My three things:
Review Skill Cooldowns
D/D burst attacks such as Fire Grab are skills shots and require comboing/timing so they can be difficult to land. I actually really like that, but missing and being locked out for another 45 seconds is too punishing in my opinion. For the amount of work that goes into landing these attacks they should be on shorter cooldown or do more damage.
Attunement Cooldown
Scrap the attunement cooldown reduction from the Arcana trait line and give Eles a lowered base attunement cooldown. Not sure what the cooldown should be, but no more than 10s.
Auras as active defense mechanic
Auras are a great mechanic (an argument could be made to make them more potent), they make people think twice about attacking you and punish people who just spam their attacks on you. But they don’t live up to their potential because we can’t use them often enough.
Increase the number of ways we can access Auras. E.g. through the 5 or 15 point minor traits. You could even repurpose the Arcana trait line passive to give additional duration to the Auras themselves OR their effects.
I recently started playing a DD ele in WvW and trying to balance stats/gear is really interesting. Here is what I am currently working towards:
0/10/0/30/30
1.9k power
30% crit chance
75% crit damage
2.5k armour
16.5k health
75% boon duration
I think it is fairly balanced in terms of offensive/defence. I have seen some builds with higher power/crit damange but then lower armour/health. I will tweak with trinkets once I get more experience playing with these stats. Any feedback much appreciated.

This has been fixed for me, logged in yesterday to find my mini shocktrooper carrying his greatsword when running around.
Thanks Josh/Matt/Anet.
Thanks Josh, really hoping this gets ‘fixed’ so I can run around with a mini-me again!
When I first got my Mini Peacemaker Shocktrooper it used to run around holding it’s greatsword but today I noticed that it will no longer do so. Is this an intended change?
Hi,
I’m a UK based player on Stormbluff Isle so thought I would chime in and address the points in your OP:
1) What is your server and Zone EU/NA ?
SBI is an NA server.
2) What is your all round wvw coverage like?
I would class us as a hybrid PvE/WvW server at the moment. We used to be a tier 1 WvW server with a lot of guilds focussed on WvW, but some of them moved on. Lately on reset night we have been fielding a full EB and home BL. During the morning time here in the UK we do have good Oceanic/Asia coverage but could do with more afternoon/evening players before most of the NA crew log on.
3) How’s the maturity of the server “trolling etc”
In WvW we have a very mature leadership which meets regularly on state of the server meetings, a key part of those meetings is how we approach any recent trolling that may have taken place. We are totally against hacking/cheating etc and work actively and positively with guilds on other servers to stamp it out. If i was to describe SBI WvW community in one word it would be ‘respect’.
4) What are the weak points to your server.
We could definitely do with more server-wide strategy and synergy in WvW. This is something we are actively working on right now. I’m sure some of our leadership will be in touch and can explain more on this.
5) How is the pve? are area’s open or always contested etc..
There are currently bi-weekly organised temple runs in Orr and boss events are very well attended.
7) Do you have active voice com and server wide activity?
We have a server TS. There are a lot of server activities, we have monthly state of the server meetings, guilds group together to do things like the temple runs I mentioned. Guild mission events are also very well advertised and co-ordinated across guilds. You can find a lot more info on the stormbluff isle website around this.
8) what are your Que times like between the hours of 8pm – 4am UTC+1/uk time.
On the past couple of reset nights we have had EB and our BL queued. But I can’t remember the last time we queued an opponents BL. The ability to take ~80 players into an opponents BL would be life-changing for SBI when it comes to WvW.
Hope that give you some useful information. Feel free to PM me to ask more from the perspective of a EU based player. I am sure our guild leaders will also be in touch. Finally I urge you to check out our website at http://www.stormbluffisle.com/
Wherever you guys end up I hope you find what you were looking for

Is there a specific reason to go Knight/Cavalier instead of Knight/Knight?
The trade off is crit dmg Vs. precision right? Is crit dmg preferred over precision once you attain a certain amount?
Thanks.
Sigils I went with dual Superior Sigil of Earths.
Do you think Sigil of Earth and Sigil of Corruption is a good combo?
