The idea of a perma stealth button would be good. Use only out of combat, consume little ini/sec, chance to break on recieve dmg, chance to be spotted from players and when used the steal go on a decent C/D. That way you won’t be able to use both mug and stealth and you will have two choice to approach an opponent. (Stole the idea from WAR’s Witch elf/Wicth Hunter)

P.S. It would be much better if people who complain about OPness stop persuading themselves that they only lose to OP classes and not OP players.

So let us all enjoy our last moments with our current builds. Let anyone who hate thiefs still lose to nerfed thieves!!!

If they remove quickness you will hardly land a successful PW or HB and Flurry for Warriors. They will need to revamp all such skills

To be fair he may have a point. If you can hit 5-7k on a toughness spec’d heavy armor class then how hard will you hit on a well balanced build that doesn’t have heavy armor?

To be fair, is Thief the only class who can hit these numbers?
No, there are other classes which can hit even harder on a single ability and even are much harder to avoid under specific circumstances, and even can hit multiple ppl with it, ohhhh isn´t that kinda OP?

Can’t you hear it coming…“Other classes don’t have Mug” :P

I had a talk with guildmate guardian with whom we had some duels in hot joint with me having the upper hand most of the times. Tbh honest that guys didn’t know how to play well yet.( His main is a Ranger ). He QQ’ed that Thieves are OP and it isn’t fair to get hit as a Gaurdian by 5K-7K especially if toughness specced. After some talk with fellow Gaurdians discussing counters still he was bothered by the damage numbers.

My question is:
Do people really want to play in way where a burst class attacks them and they want just to attack, using no counters nor defensive abilities, and finally win?

And as for the gameplay discussion, I really don’t care if Thief gets nerfed or whatever as long as my opponents still have to squize their mind to pull out some counters and defenses.

As an attack class I counter heavy armor+defense utilities with high burst. Is it sensible for a defense class to counter me just by attacking me?? Hope you get my point.

Also I would like to state again the need for “life after burst combo” solutions. Let’s say we cut in half BS Combo but the rest half I would like to see it in another mini combo maybe or skills, in case first one fails and I can’t still use HS due to above 25% health. In a few words give us 2 smaller bursts than just one big.

I love the burst build and the high crits that come with it but I hate the fact that I got limited to use it every 45 secs in its full potential. Damage maybe can be spread a bit so you have options to play and I think it would me more interesting. Eg in my Elementalist every sec I have a skill to play to continue the fight instead of waiting my only strong ones I honestly believe it is indeed really annoying to get WTFpawned in 2-3 secs but it not less annoying that if combo fails there is not much I can do with this build at least against decent players.

Don’t mind so much about nerfing spikes but in exchange I would like to see additional gameplay options as long the combo is on cooldown.

On the other hand since we are talking about the Assassin class of the game it wouldn’t be the so “Assassin” if it didn’t have the highest spike in the game.

Finally I would really love to switch to P/P after initial combo to play a few skills and then switch to D/D again to finish off.

well, it depends what you fight, toughness wont do a thing against condition damage, though for a burst build that wont take many hits you are probably right. the game is dead set against having both high burst and high survivability at the same time though.

That would be OP

I think Valkyrie is more viable option. If I could manage to keep my base critical chance at about 40% it would be good I think

I run with full berserker gear and I end up having 10k health so I was thinking what combination could give me some more without sacrificing too much burst. I would like to tone down critical damage rather than critical chance but couldn’t find some Power, precision, Vitality combination.

I shouldn’t be as surprised at the hate for the Dancing Dagger nerf as I am. I honestly thought it bizarre how much damage it was capable of dealing to a pair of targets beside each other, and have thought so for a long while now.

I hoped to see a few changes to Traps overall, since I feel like they’re our weakest utility skill category, but given how limited the changes were to most classes I guess ArenaNet just isn’t at that point yet.

They could at least reduce initiative cost I think

I am going to stick to my current burst build. I really hoped that P/P would be fixed so I could use them instead of short bow which although it is very useful it’s not that fun. Also P/P looks cooler

In general I expected some challenges but I hardly got any.

How to encourage more group vs. group encounters?

Perhaps an spvp map with no objectives, just obsticles and such. You could score by how much damage you do multiplied by how long you stay alive. You would have a little ball above your head that fills the more damage you do between deaths, so the better you are at surviving , the more of a target you become. Someone with a full ball would be worth much more than someone with an empty ball.

15 minute time limit, no score cap.

Pure pvp madness.

Not even that. The best thing would be to let you improvise not driven by buffs or scores. Satisfaction just for beating someone!

EDIT: And off course no time limits or any other limit!

I would also love the idea of small encounters. Also I fond of the new map concept with sPvP and WvW features bond together. Some of the most memorable fights I had in MMOs where small encounters.

Also it is way easier to see what you did wrong in a small fight and improve your playing rather than going along with the Zerg and die just because there were more enemies!

Hit three times and just vanish sounds like no fun. I would prefer higher mobility so the gameplay would be more interesting! I also wouldn’t mind a parry skill in exchange to burst!

Let’s admit at least one thing. Big part of the fun comes from high damage output. I thinkIit would be good to buff counter measures rather than decreasing damage.

Since when searching for alternatives is considered defence? if you want to reduce damage give me in exchange other toys to play! It’s a trade off. Don’t look it from one side only because you sound like you want to save yourself from extra thinking when countering a thief ;-)

@sorrow you crash down thief’s damage, reducing mobility, making even harder the already tricky initiative mechanic but I don’t see anywhere defensive suggestions.

Also you don’t suggest what to play when combo ends and I am vulnerable.

If you remove burst, Thief is pretty much done for if he got CC’ed. I would gladly trade such spikes with a parry skill and a more reliable knockdown.

Nearly all Backstab Thieves won’t charge at you. They wait on the sidelines for the opening when their opponent is busy with someone else.

That’s why they call it Backstab and that’s why the class is called thief. If you remove element of surprise let’s call it Blade Master . As for Heartseeker, standing duck is a dead duck. So simple!

EDIT:Also there is a thing called Initiative which is drained out from Heartseeker. Does anyone ever use evade??

This whole concept makes BS miss less “fatal” than before, since you have more buffed attacks. Before patch, if you missed backstab and you would be pretty much in a disadvantage.

Stay off the main paths and I’ve found the zerg pretty easy to avoid. My guild is small and we like to do our own thing to assist in the larger effort.

Couldn’t find many fights off the main paths to be honest

I was thinking of an idea of a less crowded WvW maps where you can roam and encounter random fights with a group or maybe you can solo/duo. The current setting of WvW is huge maps with lots of people where either you end up killed by the zerg or “forced” somehow to play along with your zerg. There is not much for you if you want to play small skirmishes. I am not that experienced in WvW so correct me if I am wrong.

I love the game overall but I was seeking a more free roaming type of PvP and not that “zerg or die” type i saw. I really like the WAR mechanic where you could enjoy both keep massive fights and small skirmishes among with soloing. I think that those type of fights are more memorable.

Also I would have like to know who am I fighting and feel a part of a “community” that shares respect and hate between them if you know what I mean.

sPvP as fun as is restricts you in an arena to fight for a restricted time with different players every time.

Am I the only one that thinks that way or GW isn’t just the game to do that?
