Safe to get rid of Enchanted Map and Key?

Once I have obtained both Enchanted Treasure Map and Enchanted Key is it safe to get rid of them (i.e. sell/delete the map and sell/salvage/delete the key)? Or do I have to keep Enchanted Key to be able to open Enchanted Treasure Chest?

Well, I defended these new events at first..

Having said all that, if after a week the Marionette is still only being beaten 1 out of 10 times, then I would say we may have tuned it a bit too difficult.

As of this writing my server (which is designated as having “Very High” population on the world select screen) has beaten Marionette exactly ZERO times. Does anything else have to be said?

Why are you so desperate to convince everyone that ascended armor is going to be ugly

Just FYI it has been know that all ascended armor IS indeed UGLY for several weeks now. You can preview it for yourself (just post preview codes below into the game chat):

No random drop should overvalue months of playing – Period.

This is the exact reason I stopped playing even before Shores of Fail new content was added. And until there are HUGE changes in the “rewards for the time spent playing without exploiting and being legendary lucky” department I am not coming back.

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

I’d like to respond to concerns players have raised about ascended items. Please keep in mind that we’re releasing this as one portion of a massive November update that introduces and improves many aspects of challenge, progression, and rewards. With this and upcoming updates, we view ourselves as introducing large amounts of content with supporting systems and features, akin to an expansion pack, building on Guild Wars 2 through a series of live releases. So it’s important for us to be able to add an expansion pack’s worth of progression and rewards to support that content.

Our goal is not to create a gear treadmill. Our goal is to ensure we have a proper progression for players from exotic up to legendary without a massive jump in reward between the two. We will slowly add the remaining ascended gear items and legendary items in future updates to allow people time to acquire them as we add exciting new content that deserves exciting rewards. We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.

Ascended and infusion rewards will be available in both PvE and WvW over time, and be made available through all sorts of content around the world including existing content. PvP will remain unaffected to ensure our intended PvP balance going forward. We are also working on other reward and progression systems for the game that tie into current and new content and features. As you know we care very much about your support and opinion and are listening intently to what you say.

Finally we look forward to hearing your thoughts on the upcoming content, and we will ensure we share our thoughts with you on the experiences we share in the Lost Shores.

LOL, is it me or is he actually saying “we don’t want to add gear treadmill but we are adding it anyway”?

As a note, Karma is not technically a currency and cannot be compared to Gold.

Lol, how something you use to buy stuff with is not a “currency”? But anyway, you do realise there are ways of converting karma into gold (alas, not very profitable ones) in this game? That would make karma very comparable to gold IMO.

Why are people complaining about the Mad King rewards?

Cross posting this from another thread, for those wondering why this is such a bad implementation of rewards in this game.

I’ll explain why stuff like this is a problem.

Once you’ve done everything in GW2 you need to set your own goals to keep enjoying the game. ANet knows this because in GW1 after people were done with the story in 30 hours they kept playing because these people set their own goals after that.

So what are the goals you can set in GW2 to keep playing more than 50 hours after beating the story and exploring everything? Since in this game it all boils down to getting cooler things to bling out your character with, and the most efficient way by far in this game to get anything cool is off the trading post, every long term goal involves making more money. There are also dungeons but you can get a full dungeon set in 2-3 weeks so that’s not really long term.

The problem here though, getting all these cool stuff(and in turn getting money) is completely based on pure blind luck

You can break it down really simply

  • Completing your long term goals using effort, skill and persistence = fun
  • Completing your long term goals as a result of pure and blind dumb luck = anti-fun

Basically what this means is that ANet tainted to long term entertainment value of the game by overloading it with anti-fun.

The long term goals are there to give you something exciting to look forward to, to work towards, and to make it fun. So alright, most of these goals are tied into making money right? Now look at how you make money.

  • You can play 500 hours and save up every scrap of gold while barely getting by
  • You can mess with the trading post, make some spreadsheets, analyze the market
  • You can buy gems
  • You can spend 10 minutes killing a boss and get a drop worth hundreds of gold

I personally chose the 2nd option because the first isn’t worth it, the 3rd doesn’t make you feel like you earned it, and the last is just dumb luck which I never had.

The whole idea is that working for hundreds of hours is just pointless when you can make much more than that just by just getting lucky or staring at spreadsheets all day.

Personally I would rather reach long term goals by actually playing the game, and doing things that are fun. Instead our options are to be poor or to participate in anti-fun.

Same goes on a smaller scale with these events. Having rewards to work towards would be extremely fun. Just having it be a random drop for just pushing a button or buying it off the trading post is anti-fun.

Well said – that’s exactly what I have been feeling for past two months playing this game.

Karma useless?

I am not a chef. I do not like the looks of a SINGLE lvl 80 exotic karma set. My life is not long enough to grind myself a legendary (only to have it… TRANSMUTED! for proper dps stats). But hey, good (?) news – I can get more karma now by doing dungeons.

Am I missing something?

Hugely disappointed

Haven’t even started a game yet (just looked at patch notes) and already hugely disappointed. Stupid costumes and mini-games, really? How about adding at least a SINGLE decent medium armor into a game that does not require me to grind for 24/7 for 2 years (yes, cultural T3, I am talking about you)?? How about fixing crafting recipe I spent my money on and it still remains absolutely useless after 2 month since the game was released (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/crafting/Crafting-Question-Why-Would-Anyone-Make-A-Satchel/first)?? How about remodelling or adding new crafted weapons (that look like.. guess what – actually a weapon!) instead of all those Pearl mega crap that makes me instantly puke (yes, Pearl greatsword, you are the worst of them all) and basically renders crafting pointless for me?? How about adding more than ONE armor set that can be bought using karma?? The one karma set sold atm looks like .. yes crap! .. I don’t want it and why do I even need a karma then? I am really getting tired to grind the same dungeons several time a day trying to scrap a few pieces of gold thinking “ok, maybe next patch will improve drops and at least fix that kitten cultural T3 so I can at least finish exploring the map wearing something decent that I am not ashamed to wear”. How about that, ANet??

Cultural T3 armor price and quality

So, I have already farmed enough tokens for 2 sets of EXOTIC dungeon armor but still can’t afford even 2 pieces of cultural T3 armor. And even if I could, what kind of upgrade would it be, from EXOTIC (dungeon) to RARE (cultural) armor?

Obviously, cultural T3 armor was supposed to be exotic and cost less but currently it is broken the same way as all “bulk” crafting recipes: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/crafting/Crafting-Question-Why-Would-Anyone-Make-A-Satchel/first#post61688

I didn’t even had to open the thread to guess from the title that OP is playing a medium armor class. There is one awesome looking set (female human cultural T3), one “meh” set I can stand to look at (“Prowler”) and the rest – well, I’d rather run around naked.

Default elementalist dye colors

PowerGamer.2874

At character creation screen you select default dye colors for your gear slots. In the game when you remove such default color with dye remover another color is being showed in its place. That another color (a native color of the item probably) cannot be further removed with dye remover.

Somehow the game screwed dye colors on my asura for several gear slots (probably when I experimented with dye coloring never applying any changes but the game often crashed in dye coloring mode). So now there are no default color and no color at all – when I hover dye remover over the dye color square I see “dye remover” text instead of color name (see screenshot, gloves and shoulders slots).

So can someone please tell me which are the default dye colors (top/left/right) for elementalist for each gear slot?

After entering Mist Form you can also be stunned which probably is not intended. That happened to me several times on Mark T-B34RC3 boss in Crucible of Eternity that drops circle AoE (similar to Ele staff lightning skill 5) that stuns. (I die, go Mist Form, make a few steps, boss drops that AoE on me and I am stunned in Mist Form with “daze” visual effect on top of me and being unable to move).
