The damage is very high, but it is doable. I did it yesterday with 30 others. We rushed in dodging and hitting the elemental all we could, and since it doesn’t fill up its health bar again we can just do it over and over again. “DOABLE!”
Why you all wanna change mesmer for your playstyle? They are fine as they are now.
True it is fine, and very challenging! It requires a lot of practice.

This would make the mesmer pretty OP. As we see in PvP at the moment, when you fight a mesmer it is clones everywhere. But in reality it isn’t. The mesmer has so many abilities that can summon clones and has a high damage overall. The mesmers main focus is to priority the different abilities. When to use them to either survive or deal damage. But I see your idea.
Arena.net made a feature with this slot function. If you summon 3 illusions and then a phantasm. 1 of the illusions will shatter (dealing no damage). If you summon a illusion it will not overwrite the phantasm, but another illusion. So your damage dealer will not disappear from summoning another illusion. Then, if you chose to shatter them, its up to you. But the shatters are not needed to be used at all times. You need to practice how to use the abilities the most efficient way.
Naturally, you don’t fight the most OP 1v1 class 1v1. They don’t have a chance if you are 2 – 3 people.
For PvE I suggest you go Staff (1) and Sword & Focus (2) with a power and percision trait build. This is for taking down monster quickly with high damage and crits. You can also go with a illusion trait build to make the illusion able to take more hits from NPC allowing you to hit the NPC more before they can reach/hit you. For PvP I suggest you going with a high condition/toughness build for damage reduction and high damage when players use abilities.
I myself focus on power traits in PvE for the most damage output. I also have a lot on percision. I think crits with high damage is important. I am using condition damage more for PvP because players use abilities much more then NPC naturally.
The phantasm warden is not supposed to move. It has the highest damage of all phantasms. Rather than the warden moving you could try using the “Temporal Curtain” and “Into the void” and drag enemies in to the warden phantasm. With this combination it is very effective.
I can’t say much about all, but if the illusions and phantasms could warp to the target to use the shatter it would be extremly overpowered in PvP. Imagine you running away from a mesmer, normally you could dodge and run away from the clones because you could see them coming. But if they could warp you would instantly gain the condition that they apply. Mesmers would be dominating even more in PvP.
That is my opinion
A mesmer isn’t OP if there are someone who know the mesmer and know who to target. And if you are two people it is very hard for the mesmer to target the right person with the clone. A mesmer need to time the abilities right in order to be affective in battle and know when to use invulnerability abilities.
