this is how my end to WoW started…
since the patch i spent ~1-2 hours ingame to rearrange stuff, get my skins, get some colors, then find out what happened to my town-tonics – logged out went to the forums – have not logged in since.
I have another 1 of each outfit but as they have already been added to the wardrobe, I thought it would be cheeky to ask for a refund for those too. I also have another 1 each of the toys (and some others) but might as well keep 1 of each.
I know they said that the refunds may take a while but im just curious has anyone at all had a refund yet.
They said in the live-stream that ‘Yes you can get a refund for your town-cloth with the changes we made but only if you looked at what we did with it first’
So you can get a refund for all your Town-Cloth and it is not cheeky, they messed up not you.
I too would love a refund for my style items but i would not be able to buy them back if they reintroduce town-cloth as some of them are no longer sold… the question is: how long should i wait? because at some point they will stop their refund policy…
Also what worth has a ‘crystal’-refund people should get their money back! The product is not as advertised anymore. At least in some European countries that could warrant a cash-refund (not a pitiful giftcard for something you do not want anymore)
I do not know the LOTR system but i could not agree more on the use-frequency of the wardrobe. I used it once to Style my max-lvl-characters the way i want them to look and thats it.
Why I will never buy Transmutation-Charges as they are now:
I, as a rule, only buy permanent additions to my character. The Systems as it is now (and was before to be fair) severely punishes experimentation.
For example: I am in a strange mood, try out some crazy style for my character and then have to change it back the next day.
I just wasted 12-18 Transmutation Charges and they disappeared into the aether without anything to show for it.
Thats about 10€. For that amount of money i could have gotten several decent indie-games. My steam-Library is 368 Games and several DLCs big I have not played half of them and yet i have just twice loaded my GW2 crystal balance and never ever bought Black Lion Keys or Transmutation Charges, because they do not give me any permanent benefit.
How to improve Transmutation Charges:
Make them unlock the new style permanently for the Equipment-piece used upon. This way when i want to go back to an old style i can do so without a barrier. This also makes Transmutation Charges enhance an item instead of just changing it.
The ‘treatment’ of town-clothing is a joke.
- The Outfits i was wearing for Guild-Partys in towns are just not possible anymore. (e.g.: black-red standard Town-Cloth with sunglasses)
- Having a second ‘peaceful’ outfit would now take up more space instead of less.
- Changing into the Town-Clothing now involves searching through my inventory.
- I now have the glorious opportunity to sell my town-cloth at any vendor i meet.
- Before this change 100% of guild-mates did change into towncloth for screenshots if asked now 50% will not even know what we are talking about.
- Changing the color of Tonic-Town-Cloth is simply not possible.
Now having to explain this last point hurts a little as i thought you were all grown up developers and knew your stuff but it seems you need an explanation like this:
Actions and Items in games have a ‘feel’ connected to them. An attack can feel heavy or light. Crippling/Slow effects can be physically felt by players. These are all things i am sure you know, but it seems like you do not know that how you activate something also changes the feel of something. So if i activate my Town-Cloth by a spell or even worse a tonic they are no longer my cloth they are just an illusion, i could just as well be naked, i do not feel any sense of ownership or connection.
So NO i will not make Clothing-skins. I would love to try to get a refund for my glasses, my drill but it seems the glasses are no longer in the black lion store so if the system changes back there is no way to get them again… way to got to force your players Anet.
The crazy thing about this is that they went through all the hassle to remove the Town-Cloth slots and change everything to tonics when they could have just cashed in on all the people who want to change their 2nd look as well.
(repost from another thread, thank you ‘Hystery’ for the invitation)

Armor and Weapon ‘Swap-Slots’:
Ever struggled with over-cluttered bags, had problems finding the weapon you need for the next encounter or simply sold your gear because it slipped into the wrong bag?
The Swap-Slots could cure all of these problems. For the sweet price of 400 Gems you could get a Weapon-Swap-Slot or go all the way to 800 Gems for an ArmorSet-Swap-Slot.
How it would work:
If you buy a Slot a small arrow will appear next to your Weapons or Headpiece that will allow you to swap out your current gear with a second Set. The first time you do this you will be naked as these are practically new Equipment-Slots. But once your second Set is equipped you can switch back and forth between the 2 (or more) sets as long as you are out of combat. The Items of your 2nd set will appear in the left part of the character-window (so you don’t forget you have them) but not in your bags.
Your Gain:
*Easy and fast Role-Switches (Zerker to Soldier to Healing in no time)
*Free Bag-space
*Never accidentally sell your gear

lol i did not find it sorry… here is me going ‘huh strange that no-one thought of this before’ ^^

The Basic Idea
Post ideas of items or services that you would buy or you think others would buy in the Gem-Store.
The perfect result of this Topic going well would be A-net makes more money (so they can invest more), we would see more interesting things in the Gem-Store and things that should be achievable through gameplay (like armor-skins) might stay out of the Gem-Store.
(think how nice it would have been if the ascended(-crafting-)armor looked like the zodiac armor and not like …- well,.. the ascended armor)

i would be interested to see how many style-items are sold more than once to one person, i would not think it is that often.
One thing i have seen people say often is that the gem-store stuff is all too expensive and recent earning statistics seem to support that.
Soo why not make a cheaper versions of all the items in the gem store as a 1-time skin and keep current prices for the the new infinite skins? this might solve both problems.
Anet you chose … poorly. Just give us EUs a patch-release that is 12 to 18 hours later in the first place.
I am part of a small casual guild ~10 real life friends the guild was practically dead for the last 4-5 months and i was playing alone, today they are all on because i told them about the patch/they read about it. Now we are 8 people on, for 7 of which this is the test if they should be interested in the game again – well i guess they have their answer now… :.( – and no they will not care anymore tomorrow.
- So i guess i will stay alone in GW2…. gg anet gg
hmm that would also explain the change of attitude after release. the old defs seemed to be ok with the idea of people finding their way to strange places.
the world seemed to be created in a fashion where it gave no benefit to ‘exploit’ and also exploring was encouraged while all the walls i’m running into nowadays seems like playground-police showed up and you are slapped in the face if you don’t use the slides and swings in ‘conformity formation 0012’ and ‘maximum fun body-position 108’.
Okay… remove invisible walls… and replace them with what?
It’s not feasible to just let people go in any direction forever. There needs to be SOME walls (even in fully persistent open world MMOs there are places you simply can’t go… either zones that are in development or aren’t fully developed or limited by server size and processing).
I am not talking about zone borders i talk about stuff that is fully inside the map (some hills and buildings for example) you can even walk full circles around those and often even see the complete top surface. but they are walled off.
Zone borders are fine in GW2 it is all unclimbable mountains or walls or ocean currents and behind that is an invisible box and that is alright in my opinion.
The big argument that support invisable walls is possible exploits.
The way the game is designed (technically) is that all terrain is build over an open ocean. the reason is that it happens that you glitch outh of the terrain and end up under the map. the amount of places and bugs where this happen is numerous. Yes, you could say that it is a bug and shouldn’t happen at all, but it does.further, such a situation causes exploits. almost all objects that doesnt require action (like skillpoints and poi’s) can be explored if you find your way to the ocean (and if detected you get a nice termination of your account).
But how do those exploits bring any advantage, if you do the water exploration thing it is just a boring long swim that would be as long or even longer than the running time and you would have to do it a 2nd time anyway because it would not be 100%. So why limit the experience of all because some people can be in places they should not be in without bugs.
Also, not going into details here but it would help writers of illegal third party software a lot to make software that help players break the ToS.
but how do places like these help those programs? to my understanding in WoW those people would just program something that ports them around the place and that would happen with or without the places where you can get under the map.
Why there is no reason for Invisible Walls to exist
1.) Game-Balance
Apart from PvP and maybe a few places in dungeons (where Invisible Walls are ok BTW) climbing over hard to reach terrain or even those ‘swimming in the sea beneath the map and re-log’-tricks never give you any benefit. If anything most of the times you do reach stuff slower if you choose the path over the mountain. And anyway wouldn’t you say people would deserve a small time-bonus if they use awesome climbing skills while others just ‘Num-’run?
2.) Death by ledge
If you try to save people from ‘death by ledge’, i have to ask: why? We know climbing around can be dangerous and we accept that risk and pay the ‘repair’-price.
3.) (i think this is the big one) Exploration of Unfinished Terrain
I think this is the most common reason why developers do it but i can not figure out why.
If it is not to break the immersion of the players, just think how immersion-breaking it is for the players to run into Invisible Walls. Also while almost only players who actively try to break out of maps (and therefore are cool with it or even feel joy when they find something) see unfinished terrain nearly everyone runs into Invisible Walls from time to time in the current state of the game.
If Invisible Walls exist not to let players see behind the curtain of the game and maybe find unused assets or terrain.
This would either be because devs are ‘ashamed’ of the unfinished work, in which case i would tell you that my best two memories i still have of WoW are a) finally killing Mimiron in Ulduar and b) a 2 hour exploration-session me and 3 of my RL friends had in the bottom half of silithus (basically an instance in its unfinished un-instanced state) after we found a way in.
Or it is because they do not want hints on future patches to be leaked, in which case let me just say that those willing will always find a way, either they find a way to walk on the Invisible Walls or they use programs to hack the game and port around or they just look what is new in the files and look at it without even opening the game.
Summary Arguments
While you developers might think ‘open’ maps and unfinished terrain might make the game feel incomplete i think it makes the game feel open, big and organic while the Invisible Walls not only take away immersion, interrupt gameplay and discourage exploration (one of the core features of this game) they also make it feel small and artificial.
Summary Feelings
Big open worlds no longer feel like wide open plains but like small boxes you are cammed into, because no matter how ‘plainy’ it looks you still feel the walls closing in on you.
If you want to know first hand how i am starting to feel in your game just walk under a beam that is exactly 1cm higher than your head without ducking (if you don’t feel enough try doing it fast). You know you will not hit you head but maaan does it feel bad.
My Hope or Wish
Dear Devs:
Please if possible at least tell us why all these walls have to be there and maybe let us in on the thought-process behind them.
Also i hope you remember that not having invisible walls was one of the most praised features of GW2 over GW1 at launch.
And if by chance anyone of us changes your mind please remove them again if possible ^^ .
Dear Players:
I hope i am not the only one feeling this way, are there any of you that feel the same?
Could you share some exploration stories with me and maybe show me some still reachable Vistas like mountain-tops with nice views and challenging climbs?
Core-Message:
Invisible Walls are more immersion-breaking than unfinished terrain.
My recent Experience with Invisible Walls and Exploring
When i started to play GW2 over a year ago i was amazed to see how much you can climb on things and even more amazed to sometimes find something in the remote hard to reach places.
For the past year i have often roamed the land just climbing on stuff and enjoying the view but over time this got harder and harder because i ran into Invisible Walls more and more when i really shouldn’t.
I include a screen-short of the most recent Wall that made me Alt+F4 and come to the Forum to write this post. It is in Kessex Hills, i believe this particular one was here from the start of the game but countless others were not. As you see the Terrain before me is flatter than the one behind me, still i can run up the first part but then i hit the Invisible Wall. What makes this even more frustrating is that the hill in question is in the middle of the map and i believe you can even see the whole top-surface of the hill if you add up all the points where you run into a wall just before you reach the top plateau.
Why Invisible Walls are not ‘a’ but ‘many’ problems ^^
1.) Jumping Puzzles and actual hidden stuff
Every time i run into a Invisible Wall when i just want to look behind an interesting looking edge or a tree or just a small bump discouraged from trying it ever again. Had i started the game in the state it is now i would never have found any of the secrets because i would have stopped bothering after a few attempts.
2.) Death from misconception
I have already died a few times from thinking i can escape/pass by mobs (or evade attacks) when i take a certain path just to be locked in by a semi-circle of Invisible Walls.
Other times i thought i can just jump to a ledge and continue my way on the path on the other side just to be redirected/stopped mid-air and fall to my death.
While you (and i) should not pity the death of my character, this does serve to show bad game-design because you discourage behavior that is needed in other parts of the game. (because thankfully this game is not only about doing damage but also about surviving and dodging)
3.) Reduction of content
I am certain i am not the only player that has spent hours roaming the game to find nice views, find secrets or just for the feeling of achievement from climbing a mountain or building.
This is content that is already in your game that you are taking away from people. To know what some of those Walls feel like just imagine if you would take ascalon catacombs away in the next patch. (for me the best patch ever was the ‘Shadow of the Mad King’ where you added Vexa’s Lab, the tower and many other puzzles to the map)
4.) Immersion
One of the most important things for me in Guild Wars 2 is movement, you can move in combat during most skills, movement is the most important factor in boss-fights (you can defeat most boss-fights with poor DMG but not with poor movement) and there is even rewarded content solely based on movement (jumping puzzles). And movement mostly feels really nice in GW2. When i play my main-character WASD become my character, i can feel lag or being crippled because my middle-finger (on W) immediately ‘feels’ crippled. Movement IS immersion.
Running around as an Asura just feels marvelous. Sometimes i just run around Rata Sum just for the sake of it. (if i was concerned about balance i would say Asura need to be nurfed on the Fun side of things because they just play sooo awesome.. Please don’t do it!!!)
Now when i run into an invisible wall it disconnects me from the game no matter how good my run was before, i open my eyes and i am in my wheelchair in my room again.
And if the Sylvari aren’t related to the dragons, then what is the point of suggesting the Pale Tree was planted on top of an elder dragon? It makes the argument pretty pointless.
I did not say they are not related i said the dragon does not have to be their origin. But the dragon could very well influence the Sylvari and Pale Tree. This one Pale Tree is special because the players originate from it, because Scarlet originates from it and because major parts of the story revolve around it. Also this Pale Tree is basically a character the player knows and if there would be a big revelation around it it would have a bigger emotional impact. We also know more about this Tree than any other.
Mordremoth hasn’t been introduced yet. A Jungle Dragon has merely been hinted at, and mentioned outside the game by some of the developers. That is why we haven’t seen any sign of him yet. They have yet to introduce a Jungle Dragon.
The Deepsea-Dragon and Primordus also have not been introduced to us yet (in this game to the character and most parts of the world), but we know from the Krait, Quaggan, Largos and Karka that the Dragon stirs and the minions of Primordus have long started to plague the underground (which also has driven races like the Asura to the surface) and are starting to invade the surface more and more.
We have seen signs of every Elder Dragon be it ever so far away or hidden beneath miles and miles of water and earth but not of the one sitting right in the middle of all of us and i am telling you something is holding it back. It does not even have to be our Pale Tree alone, what if they have joined forces and are all draining it of its power?
Do you know the Pando Tree (wiki-link included) it is basically a whole forest (43 hectares (106 acres)) that is just one gigantic organism (a giant root-cluster with trees popping up to the surface). This is something we have in reality so i would not be surprised if all the Pale Trees (in a fantasy universe) would be connected (not one organism in this case of course because they have been planted separately but maybe they have connected later).
I personally think her madness is related to an Elder Dragon, but my bet is on Primordus frankly. That’s because of the drill, and the pictures of eyes in her lair.
I do agree currently her actions are focused on Primordus and this will likely be the Dragon we might see in the next patches but i think it would be much more appealing and interesting if the influence on her is from another source.
At the time of the Sylvari intro, everyone is fighting Zhaitan, so it makes sense for the nightmares to contain a dragon-shape.
This actually makes a lot of sense but still i think in this case it would have been a undead dragon as there is no reason to have something plantyfied in a dream.
Oddly enough, after recent discussions with Konig, I’m now more inclined to say Zhaitan might be involved. Primordus is still a close second. But the mysterious surge in power for Tequatl which is still unanswered, and the hope that they might fix the Zhaitan fight, and make it something epic, has me straying from the Primordus theory a bit.
I also think Zhaitan is still there but i also think we will not get rid of him or see him so soon, i think all the Dragons will get more present over time and i hope we will have all 6 of them around when the end-times come although i don’t think we will have a fight on all sides as this would be very hard to realize from a game design point of view.
So i don’t think Zhaitan will be in the next patch, even more so since i have a hard time thinking of Zhaitan burrowing around underground.
So, Scarlet intends intends to wake the sleeping dragon under Lion’s Arch, and then bring her armies there to either:
1) Defend it in its waking state, as the dragon’s voice has been coercing her to do.
2) Bring it down (with the help of the powerful weapons she has been testing on us for the last year) as the voice of the malicious God has been coercing her to do.
Another option would be to open it and let us deal with the Dragon “setting two forces against each other to the detriment of both” although i don’t know why she would want to sabotage Lions Arch (not caring about it and going through it is one thing, but attacking it?). This is why would like to think she has something else something more sophisticated, something worthy of someone who aced all Asura collages in record time up her sleeve, something that puts this dragon up against another (Jormag preferably) but i can’t think of a way to do that.
There are Sylvari from other trees than the Pale Tree. So that totally blows that hypothesis out of the water.
only the theory in no way depends on the Sylvari being related to the dragon, this just makes our tree even more ordinary and the chance of it being planted on/near the dragon more likely.
btw what is your stance on the sylvari/scarlet/the pale tree? what/who ‘are they’/‘do they serve’? and why have we not had any sign of Mordremoth? Also why is the personification of the nightmare a dragon?
The Elder Dragons are not a planet. Other races have been at war with these beings.
Not to mention the fact that there ARE other sentient trees besides the Pale Tree. It isn’t unique. Besides, if the Pale Tree had been planted on top of a Jungle Dragon, it would have been corrupted. But since it has free will, it clearly wasn’t.
the core of the theory is that the tree drew the energy from the dragon while it was sleeping and defenseless/did not see the tree as danger. Now plants can only grow as strong as their soil is, now i would say a dragon would make for some very rich soil. In leaching its magic the tree got stronger and the dragon weaker, hence the dragon was captured and unconscious unable to fight back.
And when the seeds of the Pale Tree were removed from a cave, and planted somewhere completely different… they just happened to plant them on top of Mordremoth?
Not to mention the fact that there ARE other sentient trees besides the Pale Tree. It isn’t unique.
you are contradicting yourself, if there are many trees then the chance of one being on the top of or close enough to roots of normal trees can find water after-all i guess magic trees could find magic. Also, have you never seen how destiny in RPGs makes unlikely events happen all the time?
The thing unique about our tree are the sylvari, which could be a result of the dragon.
Besides, if the Pale Tree had been planted on top of a Jungle Dragon, it would have been corrupted. But since it has free will, it clearly wasn’t.
A small parasite like a tapeworm does not look mighty yet it can kill the giant beast called men without getting harmed. Also what do you mean by not corrupted, the nightmare grows stronger every day. Also the Nightmare is basically a split in the collective mind of the pale tree + sylvari, i do call that severe…
There is a resemblance between Scarlet’s dragon painting and this early concept art of Mordremoth.
Nice Find!
I refined my thoughts on scarlet and also drew the mental picture i had of the dragons fight with the pale tree. I wanted to share them with you, so here we go:
Scarlets Grand Design
Scarlet studied all kinds of magic, collected chemicals and devices and built armies for one purpose: To enslave or drain the Dragons and make herself the god of this world.
Why is this her goal?
In the mists scarlet saw that the pale tree is growing on the Elder Dragon Mordremoth and how the tree drains/enslaves the Dragon feeding on its magic.
(The dragon fighting against this are the red thorns we see strangling the tree, which results in the nightmare. This is also why we saw signs of all dragons except Mordremoth.)
Tree and Dragon both want her to join them in the fight against each other but her answer to that is:
‘I reject the notion that that I must choose the Dream or be lost to Nightmare.’
So she rids herself of the influences mentioned in her journal and, through the mental link with the pale tree, takes the dragons power for herself. (scarlet thorns)
This experience taught her that dragons can be used and she decided to do so.
Why form the alliances?
(this part is still work in progress)
To prepare for enslaving the 4 remaining Dragons she formed 4 armies suited for the challenge. Deepsea – Toxic (enhancing the krait to be even better underwater-soldiers), Primordus – Molten Alliance (fire is no challenge for the molten), Jormag – Clockwork (because machines don’t feel the cold) and Kralkatorrik – Aetherblades (using chaosmagic themselves they are likely to succeed).
What next?
Scarlet has found Primordus under Lions Arch so she will go to him through us and burn a big hole in Lions Arch destroying the Asura gates forcing us to use the ones in Eastern Ward and giving Lions Arch an entrance to the Depths of Tyria.
(edited by Prod.3610)
actually if i think back and read my rambling of last night i think love the theory started in the end.
we know there is a jungle dragon somewhere, we know the pale tree is a great magical being, we know it bore the sylvari about 50 years ago and we know it is 250 years old (so it is not the elder dragon).
what if the pale tree grew on the elder jungle dragon and is feeding on it, when it became sentient it felt what was slumbering beneath it and decided to fight the elder dragons, suppressing this one and sending out the sylvari to fight the others. Now the dragon of course did not like that and fought back but because he was too weak to do anything physically (and also caught in the trees strangling grip) he had to do it by infiltrating the linked consciousness of the pale tree and sylvari the dream of dreams and therefore the nightmare was born. So while one is draining the other the tree and the dragon are interlocked in mental combat while their offspring are also fighting.
This is when Scarlet enters the picture, she is a very promising powerful and intelligent sylvari and as the dragon realizes this it tries to absorb her into the nightmare. Scarlet worried by the influence she felt and the nightmares started to investigate and at the peak of it detached her mind from her body and looked behind reality. In the metaphysical world she found the pale tree and saw the scarlet thorns (the dragon fighting the tree). Not willing to bend her will to either (the tree or the dragon) she just took whatever power she could from the dragon and left.
Knowing everything about dragon and tree now she tries to profit from it letting them battle it out while she leeches their power, also knowing all the connections now she probably knows what will happen and if the dragons are essential to the world or if they can be killed. I don’t know what the plan is but i guess she wants another conflict like the tree dragon one she can profit from.
(also ‘What Scarlet Saw’ was a great story and i can just recommend all of you read it or if you don’t want to read it find a youtuber that reads it for you)
I think there is are some pictures missing from this discussion so far (below).
In my opinion in picture 1 on the left on the table shows that scarlet is indeed searching for something (i think physical) underground.
Also i like the picture lying under the table because it is somehow giving off this sense of dread. It could be a cave/opening or it could be a maw.?
Generally black does not seem to be a good color. Dark vortex in the middle of the writing-spiral anyone? also red seems to confront black on some pictures.
I think there is something to be found if we look at all of scarlets pictures, so here are my thoughts on them:
First there is the (pale) tree strangled by Scarlets red vines (see ‘what scarlet saw’/her dream) although it seems strange to me that the pale tree would be painted as a palm-tree.
Then there is the picture that just looks like scramble but if you look closer the red scrambles are again thorns and the black things look like blood oozing from whatever is stung by the thorns. i wonder why this one exists and if there is more to it.
The eye the red eye in darkness. Now she talks about this in the journal and i think the abyss and the power within was why she wanted to look behind reality, because she wanted to find out what that power is and after she found out (still inside the dream) she changed her name and her ‘color’ to red. So basically what this makes me think is ‘red eye => scarlet’ = she adopted the color/thinking of whatever looms in the darkness and now does its bidding, which turned her against the pale tree.
But what does this mean, is she now a slave of primordius? is she maybe not searching for him but maybe for the roots of the pale tree, which in my thinking could stretch across the whole globe (as the pale tree is a kind of life-tree/mana-tree) and maybe strangle primordius?
I kind of do not want to subscribe to that theory because scarlet to me always seemed more like the “i need to do this to stop something bad (there is no other way) even if it means killing millions of ppl” kind of guy and serving someone just does not seem like her style, but there is something more disturbing that i found while looking around for more subtle hints:
Warning:
Now this could be complete ‘bs’ but i can not unsee it. It could be a coincidence and i could totally waste your time but if you are willing to bare with me look at picture 3 the ‘dragon’ looks very odd to me in the middle, almost broken, not like a real dragon, to me it looks like the top half is something else something with 2 hands that looks kind of humanoid and also the whole painting is in red, not that red has to mean scarlet but i grew fond of that idea.
Maybe scarlet found out the pale tree is a dragon and turned the minion-master link around and enslaved it (symbolized by entangling it with red vines) which means she now has the power of a dragon/is a half dragon. This would explain why the pale tree did not ask us for help or tell us about scarlet yet.
Ok it is much to late and 90% of what is up there probably does not make sense or does not mean anything but i just thought let’s be a little creative and show it to ppl and let them figure out if anything and what it means… ^^
