Yesterday, I did this event with two guildies and one other person. It took us about 20 min. to collect enough stuff to make the NPC happy. That’s grindy. Please make this scale better.
I absolutely agree with you. Yesterday I was doing the entire event chain with 2 guild mates. We figured that since the other events gave us relatively little trouble that the scaling for the bomb event might not be too bad.
2 of us had both mushroom bouncing and gliding, and the third group member had gliding.
We spent about 10 minutes running bombs and got the event to half completion when we realized there was very little time left before nightfall and decided our time was better spent doing other events.
Something really should be done about this.
Initially I shared your beliefs on this. Gliding in Pact Tyria would be fun at first, and you are right it would certainly make the map feel brand new, but I can understand why the devs might be hesitant to do so.
If gliding were enabled in Pact Tyria not only would HoT players have an inherent advantage when it comes to the ease of traveling the map (which is something Anet is typically against doing), but also has the potential to make reaching some of the harder vistas easier to get to. Speaking from experience, I actually found it highly rewarding when I finally found the paths to certain vistas.
The normal maps also don’t have the same degree of virticality as the HoT maps, so I’m not sure that there is really a need for gliding.
TL:DR I agree it would be fun, but I don’t think we really need it.
The topic title pretty much says it all. I, and my party mates have had issues with mastery points all across Verdant Brink. Some of the commune points for mastery points I located last beta weekend simply don’t appear, and what points actually do appear on map don’t functions properly. What few mastery point communes do actually appear in game don’t actually grant a mastery point after a successful commune.
Furthermore, when I created a second beta character and completed the first story instance in the hopes of getting another 2 mastery points that way upon successful completion of the instances I was not rewarded my mastery points.
I realize that there are other pressing issues right now, such as squads crashing people out of game and preventing signing back in, but this is also a major issue that needs to be addressed. I have still been leveling the beginning tears of other mastery lines but without any mastery points to spend it feels incredibly unrewarding, and quite honestly rather disappointing to “level” my masteries right now.
Please Fix
Question. We have been told several times now that many of the raid fights require gliding, boss fights in particular. With all our previous beta characters removed, does that mean that all our mastery progression from previous beta weekends has also been lost?
I have three level 80 charr already and only one sylvari, so my revanant will likely be my second fruity adventurer.
Plus the idea of a wandering sylvari staff fighter who channels Ventari himself feels very right. A prophet of the most influential figure in sylvari society. Or channeling Glint, yet another former minion of an Elder Dragon, as one of the few beings that might be able to lend advice on how to deal with the realization of what he really is.
I will admit, as much as i favor the idea of Norn revenants for lore based reasoning, i LOVE your explanation for playing a sylvari revenant I had never considered how fitting a Sylvari channeling Glint would be!
You do have one other option. By level 80 characters are supposed to have enough hero points to be able to create 1 or 2 builds. If you already know what legends you want to run at level 80 (presumably Glint and one other legend) then I would start by using your hero points to fully unlock the skills for your second legend first so you can have a full bar of skills. I would then unlock all the traits you need for the two non-herald specialization lines you want.
My understanding is that we can’t take elite specializations until level 80 since elite specializations are designed to be a form of endgame progression for classes, which is unfortunate for leveling a character if you have your heart set on unlocking all the skills and traits ASAP. That being said if you are really worried about running out of hero points, don’t unlock legends you don’t plan on using until after you have unlocked the herald, just camp whoever you plan on having your second legend be.
That being said, if my experience leveling a ranger this past week has been any indication if you pick up hero points you run by while on maps in PvE as you level not having enough hero points likely won’t be a problem.
I need help…
Should I be Human or Asura? A little background, basically ALL of my characters are human male. Generally speaking, I just feel like armor looks good on them. However, I’ve always kinda wanted an Asura, but they’re less armor-friendly. But I came up with this concept look that I think is pretty cute, looks like a little hero, and I love their animations. Only problem is I’m a bit concerned with longevity of interest. Help.
Which of these do you guys actually like more?
So, I realize that this is about a month late, but if you still want input my vote is on Asura. Firstly because a little bit of diversity in races is fun, but also because every beta test thus far revenants have been hard focused in PvP and Asura’s are harder to spot.
That aside, you can do some really cute things with Asura’s in heavy armor. My guild leader made his warrior look like an a very tiny Storm Trooper from Star Wars . . . which apparently I don’t have a single screenshot of despite have over 500 GW2 screenshots.
I wanted to go for a fire and brimstone look for my Norn Revenant. I’m pretty happy with how the look came out although I might still play around a little bit with my shades of red – which by the way don’t show up too well in these screenshots because the lighting is poor (I will fix that for screenshots this weekend).
I would also like to note that the look still isn’t completely done. The armor skins are, but the weapon skins are not. I just recently started playing the first Guild Wars, and I am hoping that before HoT drops that I can get together enough Hall of Monument points to unlock the Fiery Dragon Sword skin to complete the look.
Thoughts?
At the risk of sounding cynical, I wonder how much though the devs have given to this. Most of the veteran players I know are considering using Tomes of Knowledge to take their revenant instantly to level 80 so for them this likely won’t be an issue.
I will admit though I am curious about what leveling a revenant will be like for new (or newer) players who can not take it to level 80 instantly. I like the idea that revenants could have the option of choosing a legend that they “affiliated most with” while in the mists and receive that legends heal skill at the beginning of the game, but I doubt that this will actually implemented.
Personally I agree with many of the other people in the thread that Mallyx and Jalis are the most likely to be given as the initial heal skill. The Ventari heal has to be continually moved by the player and loses a lot of its versatility without the traits and the other utility skills. As for the Shiro heal personally I don’t think it is the best heal to give to new players right off the bat since the skill is healing based on the next few attacks rather than an instantaneous heal like Mallyx and Jalis.
As for starting weapons I like the idea of giving them either sword or mace, I have never been crazy about starting a class with a two handed weapon.
Honestly I’m going to be playing a female Norn.
Personally I am looking at it from a lore and story telling point of view. Yes, technically Rytlock is the first revenant in official lore for GW2 but personally looking at the personal story options for each race and the lore behind them I feel like the Norn just makes sense.
In very basic terms the Norn are already used to communing with spirits, after all the revere and respect the Spirits of the Wild. Beyond that their Shamans and Havrouns can actually open portals to the mists and the “protecting the mists” personal story line implies that they do so often. So lore wise it just seems to make the most sense to me.
If I get lucky Anet might even let a Norn Revenant banter a bit with the legends she invokes about how to properly build her own legend.
