GW2 is No Longer a Refuge :(

I claimed my guild hall with 5 people first try. And we got the first tavern upgrade easily. My guild is 50 people with 42 or so inactive people and 6 active people. 2 are on so and so.
The guild hall things are perfectly fine as is, and sadly not much can be done to stop large guilds abuse it.

Have you seen the mats? These are finished mats, so some of them take other things to make and this list is ONLY for the first level of restoration. There are a veritable kittenton of mats for level 2 – virtually unattainable for a guild of 2 active and 2 more slackers.

You gain absolutely nothing from the guild hall with that number of people. There’s nothing of value for you to obtain.

You can’t do Guild Missions for favor, unless you only do Race and Rush. Maybe get lucky with some of the PvP ones.
You can’t do Scribe if you can’t even afford the GH mats and have no reason to progress it now that they’ve made the papers tradeable.
There’s literally no reason for you to have an Arena or WvW claiming.
Your banners automatically become accessible again once the GH is unlocked (or shortly after one of the first tiers is unlocked AFAIK).

Literally the only thing of value is the % buffs to Karma, XP, etc.. of which you can only use one at a time of. And unless you have that much of a hard-on for Guild Minis (which you could probably just join/leave another guild for) then you lose nothing.

My guild of ~10 active people has been funded to Guild Level 21, and nearly Restoration 2 on all of the points, with roughly 7 contributors. We aren’t no lifers and I could barely get 5 people for a raid last night. We just put forth the effort and don’t whine about it constantly.

I wonder what the name of your main account is, as you’re clearly posting from an alt account (post history starts 30 days ago).

How much did it cost you to get the guild to level 21 with 7 people contributing? Looking at one enhancement for a level 9 guild which is 1500 aetherium plus a pile of mats and 50 ectos on it’s own, it must have come to a huge pile of cash and mats and a lot of farming.

How much has been spent on scribing so far?

I’m interested in the total cost in time/mats/gold so far.

This is my main account. I didn’t post on the forums prior to Heart of Thorns, outside of possibly at launch. Since then, my posts have been removed with a forum update or something, I assume.

Ecto gambling, stockpiles of materials we already had, Silverwastes farmers and a bit of daily farming for shovels. Daily group sPvP if we feel up to it. I couldn’t tell you total costs, since I genuinely don’t know what we did/didn’t buy. I’ve dumped maybe 300g in materials.

Myself and one other person have leveled it. He’s something like ~100 scribe. I’m only 26. I spent maybe 30g and decided I don’t care enough to do it, since Scribe is only really necessary for WvW components. Plus with the ability to purchase Scribe papers now, we really don’t have much of a reason to care.

At least 4 people have God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals since we were a GW1 guild, and they definitely devoted more time to this game than I did. I came back for a brief stint last year, then again for HoT. My account age is ~300 hours with ~170 or so being my Revenant and another 100 being my Thief.

On the subject of growing up, failing to understand why going into another space and making up your own rules is probably a sign one needs to grow up a bit more.

Effectively, this. I’ve worked with a coworker that was adamant about no profanity, and wouldn’t even pick up games that had profanity in them. He’s pretty much what I consider the extremist. On the other hand, a coworker at the same job cursed as much as I do, but tended to be profane with customers in earshot. He was the other end of the extreme.

But,

While there is a profanity filter option in settings, many have it disabled simply because they don’t mind the occasional f* words, but the level of cussing some people demonstrate is getting out of control and requires heavy moderation.

this is willfully disabling the thing “protecting you.” If you’re whining with it off, you’ve crossed into a territory where you’re objectively wrong.

It’s PvP. It’s inherently competitive. Being toxic, like throwing the game in a fit of rage, is one thing. But telling you that you don’t know how to play when you’re in a match? Maybe take the advice, even if it’s harsh.

On that note, I’ll mention that ArenaNet has already deleted my post, even though it included no profanity or otherwise harmful verbage. I find it ironic that this occurred simply because I voiced my opinion, likely because it was contrary to ArenaNet’s opinion. The way they operate occasionally resembles fascism, and it’s quite sad to see. Unfortunately deleting and suppressing something doesn’t make it any less true.

Yeah man, there’s no harmful verbiage in calling everyone who disagrees with your opinion what amounts to a “socially kittened basement dweller.” /s

When I did it, I died during the final mob defense phase. So, once I rezzed, I waited momentarily since last time the platforms didn’t come back.

Once I jumped down, the final portal was still there. So, by the time I got to Canach, I beat him, activated his portal, then the NPCs were shouting to finish it. So I used the final portal, stunned him, and it was pretty much over. Completely bypassed at least 2 parts of the fight in the process.

Best news – we get more expansion content weeks after it actually launched! Hurray!

Because this totally hasn’t happened before, right?

I mean, WoW launched Burning Crusade on January 16, 2007. And guess what? The Black Temple was added May 22nd, 2007.

Or releasing WotLK on November 13, 2008, then releasing the Ulduar raid on April 14, 2009, followed by adding Koralon on August 4, 2009, then adding Onyxia on September 22, 2009. Or adding raid wings for Icecrown Citadel (The Lich King encounter itself, the titular expansion antagonist) over the course of January, 2010.

Blizzard, a company with ~4,700 employees as of 2012 versus ArenaNet with >300 in 2013. Who’da thunk it?

[Spoilers] LGBT Relationships

did u know that albus Dumbledore was gay … (the character i mean … not the actor)

It was one of the most important character =D but well … nobody said it in any films or book … but he was …

So why not a character like that in that game? Would it be that offensive that u couldn’t handle it?

The problem is probably that gamers are not that open-minded (maybe cause they are still kids)

Which is perfectly fine. Personally, I’m of the opinion that “coming out” shouldn’t even be a thing, and I’m a gay male. It’s highlighting perceived abnormality. But that’s neither here nor there.

When you go out of the way to highlight relationships and break canon for the sake of fan service, you’re officially an awful writer. No ifs, ands, or buts. OP is proposing both of those, which is why it’s a terrible idea.

Honestly, if we were getting another Legendary Hero, I’d want something closer to a Ranger.

As it is, the currents look something like:
Revenant – Overall Dervish (or Ritualist, I guess)
Shiro – Assassin
Mallyx – Necro/Mesmer (I’d say mostly Mesmer)
Jalis – Warrior
Ventari – Monk
Glint – Paragon

So, what I’d really like to see is something closer to a Ranger. Maybe even use the old Ranger spirits.

Alternatively, we don’t have a dedicated Elementalist legend, so Lord Odran could be used. We don’t know his appearance, but I imagine he could just be some really arrogant kitten wizard.

Also, since 2 spirits are the end-game bosses, possibly get the Lich/Vizier Khilbron for a dedicated Necromancer-type.
