Seriously. It is ridiculous. This should be a priority and yet it appears as if they aren’t even looking into it.

No no new scoring is way more important than actual issues. Quite honestly I couldnt care less if my server wins or loses, I do however care about having fun, which this is a game, and I can tell you its not fun when skills take 5+ seconds to activate

Exactly!! Complete agree. I could care less about the scoring system.

4yrs later still server/skill lag

PulsarianDevil.8125

I have said it before in other threads… Doesn’t your machine and internet make a difference? I know that not everyone can afford it but my little gaming laptop doesn’t suffer this lag people speak of. Not even with two enemy zergs in the same spot. Am I just lucky?

The skill lag is server side lag when there are many people in the area. When it happens, it isn’t just one person; everyone on the wvw raid experiences it. It’s not an individual computer or individual connection issue. It’s server-side. I have an outstanding top-of-the-line gaming desktop computer and a great internet connection, and I only experience this skill lag in wvw when there are multiple large zergs fighting. If you’re in tier 1, this will be a nightly headache, and if you’re in tier 2, you’ll still experience it, especially in EBG.

No Credit - Glutton for Punishment W1Z3 Trib

I just wanted to put an update for this. I went back there this morning and got credit for it this time around. I think I know what went wrong. After killing the toad boss, I ran to the right platform and unexpectedly hit spikes, which killed me. I respawned at the checkpoint, and was actually up at the checkpoint when time ran out. I think that if you are up at the checkpoint when time runs out, instead of down below on the middle pad, you will not get world 1 zone 3 trib mode completion credit for Glutton for Punishment.

Hello everyone,

I completed World 1, Zone 3 on Tribulation Mode earlier this evening, and couldn’t believe that I had not received credit for the completion on Glutton for Punishment. I did wait until I zoned into the following cart zone, and did destroy the cart. I received the King Toad Z-3 coin, so it was surprising that I didn’t get the achievement with it. I have Tough Customer 1 and Forbidden Honey completed. This is a bit frustrating for me — any help would be appreciated.

Shared Inventory Slot Feedback [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PulsarianDevil.8125

PulsarianDevil.8125

These shared slots are expensive and definitely are a slap in the face. Let’s call a spade a spade. What players really need is additional bag space (additional bag slots for more 20 slot bags)— and less junk items — there could be a separate inventory for green, blue, white items so that they don’t clutter up the actual inventory so often.

The other clear slap in the face for players is the gem→gold and gold→gem conversion rates. Absolutely absurd, imo.

Honestly I’d rather this game be $15/month and have access to everything — but I’m guessing anet makes a lot more money with their cash shop.

Updates about Wintersday

PulsarianDevil.8125

I remember the days when we used to gather around, with glee and excitement each yearly event from halloween to wintersday, waiting to see what funny hats Dwayna & Grenth had for us that year, free they where as we stood on our chosen circle on the ground, collecting presents ever so often as well all free no effort required just be there, those days are gone now we must button mash and ignore all else in a tireless pursuit for it, why ArenaNET did you employ the Grinch to ruin the fun of those yester years?

Because things have changed.
Why?! Because they want more and more money.
In the past you obtained rewards for free (such as Toymaker Bag) or did a few very casual events.
Now, the mechanic is much more simple, with just a few clicks: buy gems, use gems to buy gold, use gold to obtain Christmas rewards. We should be happy, not sad. It’s a new year and over the past year rewards got easier to obtain.

That doesn’t mean all progress is a good thing, some progressive things are hideous and heinous crimes against humanity with various degrees of black to white, using a yearly event to gorge greedily on your customers with an event that is about giving and charity is one of those things from my perspective that falls into a darker gray area, if we want a civilization that is progressively good then we need to do good things to each other, if we want a greedy selfish civilization then we only need agree to the insanity of our current world, or you stand up against it and be counted in the face of all that is wrong and say no more.

This is 1 time a year they truly could show gratitude for their customers, “Please insert Credit Card here”, for your virtual items just doesn’t cut it, not because I would deny them finical reward far from it but because of the time of year this 1 particular event exists.

They probably make a hell of a lot more money with the gem shop than they would if they charged everyone $15 a month to play the game. And the conversion rates for gems/gold are particularly greedy too — but it is what it is. I like the game, and I’m glad it isn’t “pay-to-win” (having endless gems doesn’t make your char stronger than other chars). Overall I’ve spent less on GW2 than other MMO’s over a similar time span (July 2013 – present), mainly due to the lack of a monthly fee. I did buy gems for the first time this fall (initially as part of the expansion, and later, another 8800) — but most of those later gems were for a holiday gift, and not for me personally.

Need for Upgrade of In-Game Mail System

Hello GW2 Community,

While I am sure this has been brought up before, I can’t for the life of me understand why the in-game mail system in GW2 hasn’t been given more thought or upgrades yet. Having a whopping 10 message max for the inbox is woefully inadequate — shouldn’t the developers look for a better long-term solution for the playerbase (while also taking into account methods to limit spam)? Also, I think the in-game mail system should have a “Sent” folder as well, in addition to showing the quoted reply text when sending/receiving messages.

Need for DEATHMATCH pvp, snowball mayhem, etc

There was once a ‘death match’ mode, 8v8 at the now gone map with the ship in the middle, ahh good times, death match doesn’t even have to be ranked, just put it in unranked or hot joins and I’ll play it all day lol, what’s more fun that capturing point strategically? Yeah killing everything in sight.

Exactly. I completely agree with you.

I don’t understand why deathmatch isn’t at least an option. You don’t -have- to play an optional part of the game — but it should at least be an option. I don’t think it’d be that hard or time-consuming to add a deathmatch option — it could even use maps that are already included in the game. Most kills within X time limit, for example.

I quite frankly have a ton more fun just killing everything in sight. I’d certainly welcome some deathmatch!!

Ranked arena doesn’t have deathmatch, and there isn’t a deathmatch option when queueing for non-ranked or ranked arena (ie there isn’t a ‘deathmatch only’ option). There also isn’t a deathmatch option for snowball mayhem. It would be nice if the developers gave more attention to the deathmatch playstyle. Not everyone wants objective-based pvp.

Hello Guild Wars 2 community,

My favorite game mode in MMO’s (or any multiplayer game) is deathmatch — where the main objective is to kill your opponents. Why isn’t there a designated deathmatch option when queueing for arena pvp, or when entering snowball mayhem?? I think giving players additional options to cater to their play-styles is important. We shouldn’t be limited to only objective-based (capture the flag, hold points, etc) pvp. I think the lack of a designated deathmatch option within GW2 is a game flaw that should be remedied.

I’m curious as to other people’s thoughts on this?

Ascended armor/weaps aren’t that hard to get, once you have 500 skill in the desired craft (weaponsmithing/armorsmithing/huntsman, etc). It certainly isn’t a major grind when compared to making a legendary weapon, or when compared to the grinds of Everquest 1, Aion, etc.

Just curious—What game are you playing now?

And if you pay $15 per months you will basically have access to everything in the store sooner or later.

The whole thing however is that many games today have BOTH a cash shop AND a subscription (and in the case of WoW, box-prices). Thus adding a subscription does not mean that there will be no cash shop.

Understandable. Better profits for the company with both.

But they have them now (and WoW also have subscriptions + box-costs on top of that).

It is quite irrelevant that they didn’t have them before. They have them now, and have had them for years.

You claimed that they didn’t have them, which is clearly false.

They didn’t have them when I played them—which is clearly true. Notice the word “had” in my original post. I also noted that cash shops may have been added to WoW/WAR/Aion (although WAR apparently died in 2013, no surprise there).

Original post: “Dark Age of Camelot never had a gem store for over 10 years. I don’t think WoW, WAR, or Aion had gem stores either, but it’s been a while and they may have added them”

DAoC 2001-present- no cash shop
WoW 2004-2008 – no cash shop
WAR 2008-2009 – no cash shop
Aion 2009-2010 – no cash shop

At the end of the day, I’m not a huge fan of the cash shop. Everyone has their own opinion, though.

I used to be able to buy a lot of things for a lot less than today, does not mean any business in the world will start selling for that price again.

Understandable. However, there is always supply and demand, and if a business overprices its products, it can potentially lose customers. Mythic overpriced its Warhammer Online product, and customers did not care to spend money to beta-test an unfinished game—so they subsequently left and the game’s servers were shut down.

In regards to cash shop vs monthly fee, I would much rather pay $15 a month and have access to all gem store content, than pay much more than $15 to have the same access. If everyone paid $15 a month, anet’s profits may not change that much. I don’t feel that $15 a month is a lot for a hobby, honestly. It’s usually less than a single weekend of drinking/partying.

WoW and Aion have had cash stores for years. WAR have been shut down for more than a year.

WoW did not have a cash store when I played it from 2004-2008. Its cash store was implemented in 2013, a whopping 9 years after release. Aion opened a cash store in 2012, two years after I quit, and roughly three years after release. WAR did not have a cash store when I played from 2008-2009. Dark Age of Camelot still does not have a cash store (and instead has a monthly subscription fee).

You’re actually wrong. WoW’s cash shop started in 2009.

Apparently it was an updated cash store that started in 2013. In either event, it was still many years after original release and long after I had quit.

After having read 6 pages of discussion (not easy at some times, I can tell you) I still do not know what the thread is really about. Is it that the gold price is too high for additional bank tabs/bags?

The thread is about people who don’t want to earn enough gold to buy the gems nor do they want to buy gems with real money. Therefore they want the items out of the gem store and the price artificially capped at a few gold so they can get it without paying money or exerting themselves in game to earn the gold.

to be perfectly honest, i think the point is that bank tabs are prohibitive for new players, they would rather have a scaled price based on how many tabs they own, like you generally see in other games that dont sell tabs.

However since that would require it be gold, and not gems, he suggests it should be gold.

what he is really saying is, how as a newish player is he supposed to get 80 gold or whatever for a bank tab.
he has a point, however, even though people may not love it, its one the things they sell, that is actually useful, therefore it is probably one of the things that makes people want to use the gem store, and thus supports anet.

I dont think the current inventory is completely unmanageable, if you use salvage kits, the TP, bags and such. but, its not very comfortable either.

Honestly—if you have to make alts just to expand available space, there’s probably a problem with limited inventory/bank space in the game.

I still think the gem-to-gold and gold-to-gem conversion rates are absurd.

I honestly wouldn’t mind them having a $15/month fee to play and just get rid of the gem store altogether.

Can’t think of a single game that has a sub but not the equivalent of the gem store. Can you name some?

Dark Age of Camelot never had a gem store for over 10 years. I don’t think WoW, WAR, or Aion had gem stores either, but it’s been a while and they may have added them. All of those games had monthly fees, however. GW2 is the first mmo I’ve played without a monthly fee, and it’s also the first mmo I’ve played that has a gem store.

Treasure Hunter - The Lyssa Conundrum

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PulsarianDevil.8125

PulsarianDevil.8125

I get it. The “Treasure Hunter” collection is supposed to be hard to complete. But to what extent? Now of course I could buy all the exotic items needed to finish the collection, but that is beside the point I want to make.

To get “All Seeing”, one must kill Lyssa and hope the RNG gods smile greatly upon you (or, do it the lazy way, and shell out 100g on the TP). But getting to kill Lyssa has become a challenge in itself. Why? Temple Defense. Now in the days before Megaservers, this wasn’t an issue. I guest over to another server where it’s up, boom, done. But on Megaservers, I have to wait the 2 hours after Lyssa dies for the event to come up and retake it, and hope to GOD that some idiot doesn’t successfully defend the temple. And if someone does, I get to wait another hour (at least) for the kitten event to come up again, and I get to hope that the freaking temple isn’t successfully defended AGAIN! I get lucky sometimes and find someone on another IP, and I can taxi over to fight her, but barring that, it’s an endless waiting and hoping game.

I am certain the developers of the collection system did not envision it to go this way. I urge them to rethink how this works, and change it. Perhaps make temple defense give you access to the chest? Perhaps make the defense event happen more often? (30 minutes?) Perhaps make the defense event harder each time it spawns?

Again, I realize that the collection is supposed to be difficult to obtain, but get rid of the roadblocks to even ATTEMPT to loot the required items.

Thank you.

That’s not even the worst one to get. Pendant of Arah, Sam, and Commissar’s Manifesto are all harder to obtain imo. They’re also much more expensive.

I do agree that they need to do something about folks defending the Lyssa temple—it’s very frustrating for others that need to kill Lyssa.

Why are you all being so racist? I am a white male born and raised in America and I not only know about Chinese New Year, I’ve celebrated it with Chinese friends. This is such a pointless argument to be made. It is extra content that you can choose to go and play or not play. I personally do my two matches a day for dailies and think the content was a bust but only because it was lacking and not because of it’s intentions.

The fact is, the Chinese and Western clients are the same. We get the same content updates so the developers only have to work on one version of the game.

Maybe get off your uncultured kitten and experience the world. America is a place where cultures collide and mix. Are you seriously going to tell me you’ve never heard of Chinese New Year? Do you live under a rock? I bet your mind would be blown to find out that the Jews have their own New Year too! It’s almost like we all have different calendars that started at different times.

don’t call me racist is false accusation and rude

the problem is i don’t care about chine or other not western holidays and this is a problem for me’; anet didn;t make this festival with proper lore background, it’s not canthan it’s only china fan service which for na/eu players is second hand content

You’re absolutely right. I think anet was out of place adding this on a NA servers. Perhaps they wanted to generate money from lunar event items in the cash shop, or use it so that they wouldn’t have to develop different content for NA servers.

What's a Bad Player to Do?

So, in the forums, I see cries of “Learn to play” (though not directed at me) and have gotten ranted at by someone for only having “2k+ AP” (when they joined my instance when I asked for help — besides, I was proud that I just hit the 2k AP mark that day).

I know my reflexes aren’t as good as some. I do read guides, though many make a lot of assumptions and are written in such a way that they are hard to understand unless you already know what they are trying to do. I do attempt to active dodge, but I make mistakes.

However, a lot of advice that I see just ends up getting me killed because I don’t have he reflexes to pull it off. For example, ranged weapons may do less damage, but they keep me alive. Still, I get told that I should never use a ranged weapon (though I do agree that a guardian really needs to be melee, but I consider that a special case). Also, I get laughed at when I don’t do ranged either, so I can’t win.

So, it seems like everyone wants a game that wants player skill but complain about the players that aren’t as good and can’t compensate with better equipment.

At least you can’t say I’m not trying, but what’s a bad player to do?

Practice makes perfect. Don’t label yourself as a “bad player” if you are relatively new to the game. Every player started out as a rookie, whether it was in GW2 or another mmo. Over time, your practice will make you a better player, as is the case with everyone playing. Strive for success, and eventually you will be successful. It doesn’t happen overnight, but it will happen.

The one holiday I do consistently celebrate (eg actually do something for) is the Super Bowl, and ironically that isn’t even an official US holiday. Dear Guild Wars 2 Forums Community,

I believe that Snowball Mayhem, the competitive mode for the Wintersday event, should be made available to the Guild Wars 2 playerbase year-round. As Sanctum Sprint was made available year-round, I don’t see why the same couldn’t be done for Snowball Mayhem (or even aspect arena). However, instead of a rotating daily activity like sanctum sprint & others, it should be available all of the time for those interested in playing it. I just don’t see the logic in providing an enjoyable playing experience only during a very small portion of the year. Dry Top and Silverwastes were made available to players year-round, and the same could be done to various event competitive modes like Snowball Mayhem.

On a separate but related note, I would also like to see a deathmatch mode of Snowball Mayhem, as I much prefer fighting other players to capturing a flag. There’s nothing “uncreative” or “boring” about a deathmatch option (e.g. first team to X kills)—it is still a lot of fun for players to compete against each other.

In any event, I am interested in what others in the GW2 community have to say about this.

We do hope you will find it within your heart to understand, that there is more outside the borders of the United States. Please allow us to enjoy our regional celebrations and that Arena.net wish to share in those celebrations with the rest of the community based all over the World.

However; I do find it difficult to understand why you would say that the Lunar New Year was possibly from Afghanistan, when the Lunar New Year is a Chinese celebration.

Afghanistan has Islamic holidays, as I’m sure you know that they are located within the Middle East and not Asian.

It must be really important! Is it celebrated in China or Afghanistan or something? At this rate, we might just get our wish for an event for Columbus Day!! haha

In any event, I’m just curious as to why the lunar new year was chosen, of all possible events during the year?

Cheers,

Hildace (Mike)

I liked snowball mayhem.. For as many activities that is not played in game and many of us know which ones those are .. Anet should slowly replace with new content and see what the players like.

^^ Totally agree with you!! Adding a whole new set of activities will be a nice touch to the expansion that will be coming out! I’d love to play snowball mayhem again >.< without having to wait so long :x well I hope they’ll consider adding it soon

We’re still waiting for snowball mayhem to be added year-round; we shouldn’t have to wait until next winter to play it again.

Was able to just now log in long enough to get my char off the map. Maybe that specific one was overloaded?

even when i got my char off the map, it still disconnected me and sent me back to malchors leap

the only way i avoided the disconnect was by changing to a char in a different zone (lions arch)

Exactly. It’s time to provide us with the content that we enjoy!

:D well I’m all for it! Snowball Mayhem was so much fun to play and I know a good handful of people that would love to have it as a year-round game! This game could use a little more pvp content like Mayhem. It’s a nice change from the pvp game they already have. v-v It sucks how we have to wait so long just to play it again… :/ If they made it a year-round game more people would get into PvP rather than sticking to PvE (like me). Plus, the new daily system is trying to encourage people to try different things on the game like pvp, adding it as a year-round game would be a nice touch to it in my opinion ^^.

I completely agree with you!! I knew I wasn’t the only one!!

I’ll just throw in that I like Sanctum Sprint, but stopped playing it when it went on rotation because it rarely seemed to be available when I was actually in the mood for it, and I just lost interest.

SAB is even worse. Try buying a coin with real money that let’s you play Snowball Mayhem as much as you want, but then they don’t even bring it back every Winter.

The ratio of effort-spent-on-developing-things-to-do versus actual-things-you-can-do-when-you-log-in is depressing.

Yeah—I definitely agree with you about the rotation. I can’t stand them for the same reason—it rarely has what I want to play when I want to play it.
