You’ve got cleric’s gear on… this isn’t a particularly high DPS build to start with, but there are bigger issues here.
That fight really isn’t a good demonstration of the strength/weakness of the ele (or your build, I guess) at all. It wasn’t an OP build or profession that let him do that to you, it was you missing almost every single skill you cast, without him even needing to dodge.
Landing your attacks (Burning Speed especially), you really, really need to practice with. This isn’t coming from a ‘high and mighty’ queen of arrogance, for the record. I’ve spent an absurd amount of time on ele but I’m only just coming back to it after a few months without even touching it. I will be the first to say I’m probably not in a great shape with it myself, either. :p
Semi-random little things that come to mind from the video:
- You’re not a melee range fighter, try to avoid standing toe-to-toe with a warrior. That extra little bit of range can make it much easier to see attacks coming and dodge them. It is significant.
- Learn just how far burning speed moves you, hell practice on every passing bunny if you need to. Even if it means ‘wasting’ a dodge to quickly get into position to land a burst, it can sometimes be worth it.
If you’re not going to land the hit at the end of the charge, and you don’t need the change in positioning (or a fire field >_>), don’t cast it. If you’re not 99% sure you’ll land the hit (assuming your target doesn’t dodge/etc), then practice more. ^^
- Personally, I’d change from signet of restoration, at least temporarily. It encourages you to spam skills mindlessly a bit too much (you could always spam auto-attacks whenever you have an opportunity, don’t need to actually land an attack to get the heal and it’s better than wasting a cooldown ^^). It’s not a bad heal, by any means, but it can get you into bad habits.
Ether Renewal can be awkward to get used to, it’s a different style for sure, but after something like 1,000 hours with signet of restoration, I was converted to ER. When casting speed isn’t directly linked to your healing, you tend to think a little more carefully about what you’re doing. Even if you do end up sticking with the signet, viewing your skills less like little heals and more for their real worth is a good lesson to learn.
I’m pretty sure I’m rambling by this point, and I’m sleepy, so I’m going to stop.
I guess, tl;dr:
Work on your camera control, movement, and ability to land skills on moving targets. Don’t get frustrated, ele isn’t nearly as bad as it might feel right now. Just keep at it, and keep improving. ^^

Hahaha.
This was the last thing I expected from an aNet employee.
At this point, I’d be more surprised if something like this hadn’t happened. Maybe their grand plan to solving skill-lag is to kill off their playerbase.
I’ll take a bandaid over bleeding. It’s a start at least. /signed
Not tried it on anybody besides deadeye, just noticed it while farming him too – Tainted Shackles was also removing all of the vulnerability stacks on him the moment the immobilise landed, wiping their remaining ~7-8 seconds duration out. That farm got me out of the habit of just instinctively hitting 5. >_>
Edit: Just quick “testing” (if it can be called that >_>) with a couple of different families of mobs in a few maps, with the setup I was using for Dunwell – I’m not seeing the condi-removal with them. Might/hopefully is restricted to him.

So much agreement with this thread. Getting rid of Renewing Stamina, giving us an equivalent to other professions’ vigor minor traits as our first minor in Air (Because who in their right mind wants Zephyr’s Speed?), lowering the base attunement cooldown to 9 seconds and changing Arcana’s ‘unique’ bonus to something else… If that was done, it’d be a hell of a nice start for build variety.
Fixing the terrible mess that are our offensive trait lines would be a pretty nice start too.
This was actually fixed in the Feb 26th patch

Sylvari who use the Total Makeover Kit can now adjust their glow.
Using another total makeover kit will now let you properly set your glow. Get in touch with support, they were able to get me a kit to do it within about 40 minutes. xD
Just mention you used the total makeover kit before the Feb 26th fix, and need a second one for the fix to apply.
