Is there another GW2 forum that people are using? This one doesn’t exactly scream awesome…

What is the purpose of this thing ? Wiki chief recipes are a lot easier to use and allow you to find things faster.

This allows me to sort by effect better than I can locate the information through the wiki

Also, you can use it to get the complete ingredients for a recipe, so you have some idea of the true cost to make it. It’s most useful not as a reference for finding recipes, but as a way of tracking recipes once you’ve discovered them.

Now all we need to do is hook it up to gw2spidy.com and get real time prices in there If things were slower at work I’d try to figure it out.

That… is an excellent idea. Let me see what I can do.

If it were me leveling I would first get a list of all of the foods available, sort it by the required chef rating, and then look at the ingredients for recipes in my level range. That way I can easily figure out which ones I have the ability to make in the range that will give xp.

A guide will require you to either harvest or buy very specific materials – so it isn’t going to be entirely useful to your run of the mill chef that is leveling off of their own harvestables. Also keep in mind that you get better experience for discovering recipes, so it can be beneficial to -not- craft a bunch of the same item to level.

Give this a look for info on foods you can make:

Oh, and while you are at it it would really be nice to store my 1500 sticks of butter in my collection tab… and maybe a spot for all my extra harvesting tools… and come to think of it all of these looted weapons are kind of a pain to have in my inventory too, can I have a collections spot for them as well? </sarcasm>

Every mmo I have every played has had some aspect of item management. The fact that they are even allowing base ingredients a collection spot is spectacular, but lets not get out of hand here.

The collections system is designed so that I can go out and adventure, level my character to 80, and then come back and do my crafting professions later without having to grind out materials in the low level zones. It is not designed to be Bank #2.

Chef Recipes -Volumes of Ingredients

There are definitely some ingredients that are rarer then others, but you don’t always need to use the most expensive ingredients to level chef. I crafted all the way to 400 using a ton of bulk ingredients.

As far as why they changed it? I guess I can’t say for sure if it was for balance reasons, wanting to change the difficulty of the tradeskill, or something else. Even so, I almost wish more of the ingredients were harvest only so I don’t have to spend my hard-earned karma to try and run a chef business.

I am curious though as to what you are stuck on that has made you feel that you are a screwed over lowbie chef.

I just changed a couple of things on the spreadsheet.

1. Made the font a little smaller
2. Split the stat values and stat types into different columns (so they can be sorted in the correct order)
3. A few other minor changes (moved the required level column, renamed a couple of things, etc.)

I should clarify as well, this spreadsheet only shows the foods that are consumable. Any chef recipes that are component-only are not on here. (and dyes and feasts) I think I’m going to put in another tab with all the recipes.

Thanks everyone. :-) I’m glad you’re getting some use out of it!

Now I’m getting to the point of doing dyes and feasts. I’m not sure if I want to integrate them into this sheet or do a separate table. It’s already pretty big…

I figure if anything it’s nice for people to have a reference – both for buyers and for crafters. I have a little more advanced version of this sheet that does all the calculations for costs, and amounts that can be crafted based on inputs of what the current price of ingredients cost and how many you actually have on hand, but it’s too big for Google Docs to handle. The apx prices on here are based on current values so they will obviously change… but it at least gives people an idea of which foods are more expensive than others.

There is one minor flaw in the sheet – it does not take in to account what happens when a single craft of a subcomponent results in multiple items. The assumption is that the ingredients listed will make at least 1 of each subcomponent, so the costs are a little higher in some cases. (ie. When you are making a food like a Bowl of Hearty Poultry Soup, one of the components required is Bowl of Herbed Poultry Stock – which you get 3 of per craft. Essentially, if you are only making one Bowl of Hearty Poultry Soup you will have 2 Bowl’s of Herbed Poultry Stock left over.)
