Look, dude. You can say someone thinks it’s “because of their misconceptions” and that you chose it because it was deeply meaningful or your dear departed uncle’s nickname or whatever. The criteria isn’t what you think it means. The criteria is what a reasonable person who does not know you thinks it means. No one’s getting your backstory when they see the name.
There’s a town in Austria that starts with F, (and it’s not “firetruck”). If I put that as my name, no one is going to assume I’m from Austria.
I’m not saying it’s something that’s deeply meaningful to me. Is it unreasonable of me to expect that people see a name in the context of the game they’re playing before assuming it’s sexual innuendo? “Bunk” isn’t even slang for that town in Austria, at least nothing mainstream (and if we argue we must avoid all slang, we would have to avoid 99% of words). There’s no backstory to get when you see my name, it’s not something from my past, it’s something from the game that you’re playing just as I. If somebody is ignorant to that part of the game and has the maturity of a thirteen year old, why should I be punished for it? It’s a name with appropriate intent and meaning, and it’s being banned because you can kind of relate it to something sexual (Nothing in the name itself is even sexual!) You can relate literally any name to sexual innuendo if you try hard enough and include slang. It’s context that matters.
You honestly think naming yourself FKitten and bluestocking is the same? I could relate your name to sexual innuendo if I really wanted to, but that doesn’t mean I find it offensive or inappropriate, and you certainly shouldn’t be suspended then punished because I tried really hard to.
Bottom line is that people need thicker skin, it’s one thing to protect against discrimination and related words, it’s another to ban any name that could related even a sliver to another topic not G rated.
I would say it could fall under reference to sexual act just by looking at the name, my wife also thought that without reading the rest of the forum page, so its quite obvious someone could think that.
edited to further reference why you could have been banned, bunk is a slang name for low quality mariajuna. unfortunately a lot of people from a lot of backgrounds play gw2 and anet have their rules they have to abide by.
Is that not because of your conditioning of hearing “Kitten me harder” in real life? I can see why people would think that, but that’s due to their own misconceptions and when my name isn’t directly a grasp at that phrase I don’t think it’s appropriate to take that name away from me. If you took away people’s names for slang for marijuana we’d all have numerical names. Anecdotal, but in four years of heavy marijuana smoking with friends I’ve never heard “Bunk” used as slang for low tier bud.
My issue is that I abided by their rules, you may perceive it as a sexual reference on first notion, but it’s not, and has a meaning of it’s own that in the context of their game (Say your playing tPvP, you’re going to hear Bunker a lot, and playing as a guardian that’s my job) If you’re playing a game of sPvP you’re going to immediately know my name is a reference to the meta and not grabbing at sexual innuendo straws.
Sadly I think it’s obvious what it falls under (probably 2 to be exact).
Anyway, you could try talking to support. On the bright side, according to Gaile, you can create names of famous people; Taylor Swift, Ashton Kutcher, Bill Gates, etc are all acceptable names to use. Maybe try one of those?
Care to elaborate which you’d think it is?
It’s not a reference to a sexual act, which is the only thing I think they could possibly perceive it as.
You should remove the screenshot, as displaying your Account name in public can be dangerous. That’s half the information needed to compromise your account.
Didn’t notice you could see through it, thank you. Fortunately I’ve got a pretty secure password.
Well, ‘inappropriate behavior’ is not the same as ‘inappropriate name’. Perhaps, in your passionately-played match(es), you let slip some inappropriate language or something else along that line. If you want/need further clarification as to why you were suspended (you were not banned), you could contact Customer Support and ask.
Also if you could point me in the right direction to contact customer support about this I would appreciate it. I’ve looked for it myself with no avail.
Top of page, left hand side, “Support”.
Then top of page, right hand side, “Submit a request”.
Oh wow, I don’t know how I missed that, thank you.
From the Naming Policy document down in the Legal Doc section
We do not permit names that:
- Have offensive racial, ethnic, national, or cultural connotations
- Include hate speech or bigoted slurs
- Reference sexual acts or real life violence
- Are pornographic
- Make inappropriate references to human anatomy or bodily functions
- Reference illegal drugs or activities
- Reference religious or historical figures
- Reference real-life people
- Reference names of copyrighted or trademarked characters, materials, or products
- Use misspellings or alternative spellings of names that violate any of the above rulesI’m sure you’re a bright fellow, figure it out.
-Nothing racial, ethnic, national or cultural
-Does not include hate speech or bigoted slurs
-Does not reference sexual acts or real life violence (Though I suspect this is the reason they might’ve, but having twos letter similar to kitten in the first word does not make it a sexual reference, it’s a reference to their own game meta!)
-Definitely not pornographic
-Does not reference the human anatomy or bodily functions
-Does not reference illegal drugs or activities (though there’s about a hundred thousand other names that do)
-Does not reference religious or historical figures
-Does not reference real life people
-Does not reference anything copyrighted (Though I do reference the meta of the game, it’s not a copyrighted term of ANet’s)
-Not a misspelling, if somebody perceives it as any of the above it’s their demented perception.
I don’t want to sound like a kitten, but did you read my name? I would like to know why you think it wouldn’t be appropriate.

My guardian’s name is/was “Bunk me harder”. On what grounds is this inappropriate? It’s a character I made for sPvP and I felt it only appropriate to include the meta in my name.
I don’t even see how that could be perceived as anything inappropriate! Are you trying to protect the twelve year old player who perceives any adjective that could be even remotely related or used to describe genitalia as inappropriate? Do I deserved to be banned for 71 hours for a sPvP centric name? Do you guys even look over these names, or do you just go ‘oh, three people reported his name, let’s make him change it’.
Tried it 2×. Only got Tot bags. I’m pretty sure I got the witch hat on all my characters last year. So I have to spend 800-1000 gems to buy another character slot to get a free mask. Pass. Just another ploy for the gem store.
The real ploy is giving you a bunch of limited time junk that’ll sit in your bank for months until you splurge on a new bank slot.
People actually want a mask over 25 ToT bags?
I’m going to be honest with you guys, you’ll look at it for a week, get tired of it taking up bag space and trash it. Be happy you’re getting something other than the mask, it causes rapid hair loss.
To all the negative nancies who apparently play other classes:
1. Why are you in the ranger forum randomly trash talking.
2. This build has 4k attack before might, and can get an easy 8-10 stacks of might from pet auto’s in Rampage as One.
3. I say reliably hitting 10k as in almost every time, on an 8 second cooldown. I have hit higher than that.
4. I never said that Rangers have the highest damage output, only that they can achieve the highest attack stat.
5. The survivability of this build is above average for a direct damage ranger build
6. Come at me bro
1. Because they use another class as a reference point doesn’t mean they’re trash talking, you’re being foolish.
2. HGH engies and most warriors can maintain more than that without their ultimate.
3. One hundred blade’s cooldown is close, if not the same (forgive me, I haven’t checked it’s exact cooldown recently)
4. Is that supposed to mean something? Oooh, we’ve got the highest number that effects damage, yet don’t deal the most damage. RADICAL
5. Awesome, that’d be great if the only class was ranger. However, in a game that has more than one class we need to use the others as reference points to where our class is on the spectrum of damage dealing. (It’s called balance) Yes, it’s a good damage dealing build, but it doesn’t mean squat when others can do more without being spec’d into it.
6. You’ve got to be kidding me, are you twelve?
It’s a design aesthetic. A lot people want prestige items which means limiting them. You can limit items by making the amount of time/resources required to get them very large, or you can limit them having them in for a limited time only. We could make every item easy to attain and permanently available, but then we lose the prestige factor. If you don’t value the prestige factor, then no arguments are going to make you understand. It would be like arguing someone into liking heavy metal or kimchi. Personally, I don’t particularly value the prestige factor, but I understand that it is a HUGE motivating force that drives the engine of the economy.
Please for the love of god josh, do not listen to the whiners. Make a separate dress up game just for them so they don’t kitten about not being handed everything. ‘How dare I not be able to get any item whenever I want, ABSURD’
Here’s what I’m taking from Jeffrey’s comments today (btw thanks Jeff!):
He stated: “I’ve seen some posts that have correctly identified the specific event/boss”.
Keyword is “some”…note that he used it instead of “many”. (Refer to graph below)
I think we can safely remove the bigger guesses such as Zho’qafa Catacombs and Shadow Behemoth, and instead focus our attention on the less mentioned events such as Statue of Dwayna, the High Risen Wizard or Fire Elemental.
I’m going to go with the Risen Priest of Grenth. He’s the final open world event/boss in the game, and it seems to fit his loot table. It’s not an easy event and I’ve seen it fail many, many times (only completed it once myself).
If anyone wants to examine 14 pages of posts for “some” events…have at it!
Towards the start of the game grenth was defeated constantly on most servers, along with the High Risen Wizard. I’d say even with all the people farming Zho’qafa for the past couple months or so, it’s still been completed less times by less players than either of those two events.
There you are, fixed it for you.
I feel I can safely speak for our community as a whole (Except for Qid) when I say we like to know what you’ve changed. Please stop with the ambiguous update notes like ‘Oh, we’ve changed things and stuff’.

For whatever reason, halloween tonics obtained before the (wintersday?) patch cannot be sold.
Katlan, this is also a new thing. Legendaries weren’t able to be bought/sold before even though they were soulbound on equip. Go ask anybody who has made one, they weren’t able to be listed in the TP. Also, it’s clearly a bug one way or another because only three of them show up, twilight, the moot, and incinerator. So even if they are supposed to be able to be sold, it’s still bugged. Shush, kitten.

After defeating the multiple burrows and Magg enters the room where you pull the chain he just stands there day dreaming. Not sure if it happens every time, but so far it’s been 2/2 .
I’ve gotta say, I’m really disappointed in this part of the update. Magic find is a terrible stat to bring into dungeons, it makes you more fragile, give out less dps, and overall makes the dungeon more difficult for you and your teammates. That’s all okay for when you’re running a dungeon with a bunch of friends and you can trust each other to not run a dungeon wearing MF gear, but now to make sure some kittenhole in a public group isn’t wearing MF gear we have to ask him to show us his armor, and we can’t even be sure that’s what he’s wearing. Very disappointed in the way you made this work, I was overjoyed when you said it wouldn’t effect chests, and then this? I suppose we could wear our MF gear just seconds before the death, but then we have to sacrifice our precious inventory slots.
