This is a windows problem, not a GW2 issue. If you happened to install to c:\programs or c:\programs (x86), then it’s going to be slightly harder, because those folders are restricted (for a variety of reasons).
Generally speaking, I install games to c:\games so I don’t have to worry about that.
Fortunately, for GW2, it’s trivial: copy the entire folder and paste it anywhere you alike (you don’t even have to “cut” if windows honks at you). The game will run from anywhere in windows.
Be sure to update any shortcuts to “point” to the preferred location. Or in e.g. Rebel’s case, perhaps have one shortcut for the non-system drive (D) and one for the original location (overkill, but some people like that).
Thank you for your suggestion. I tried it but the default GW2 folder is in “Program Files” so after copying the GW2 folder to D drive (which worked with changing the path for the shortcut). I was unable to delete the original 32G file. New problem, I don’t have enough real-estate to have a 32G dummy file on my C drive.
So it looks like GW2 is toast. I’ll re-install win10, and get rid of GW2, and look back on the fun times I had in GW2, with no prospect of enjoying any new times there.
Of course, maybe in a year or so, I’ll try again, and maybe the GW2 devs will have fixed this problem and not created brand new ones that make the game unplayable.

My problem is almost identical. Only difference, both my C (system) and D (game) drives are SSD. Other than that, our problem is identical.
I re-installed Win 10-64 bit and now GW2 won’t give me an install location option. I want it to drive D for the higher speed.
I submitted a workaround request to tech support, but will be greatly surprised if my request is answered.
2 issues:
1. I was fighting the Shadow B. In the middle of the fight an unknown helmet appeared on my head. After fight, I couldn’t remove it or change it and it looked totally silly with the rest of my outfit. After failing to get rid of it in the wardrobe and armor areas, I re-logged and it was gone. Do I now have to do voluntary DC’s just to get rid of bogus gear? Isn’t it enough to get multiple DC’s every day from bad programing?
2. As noted above, multiple DC’s every day. (ditto what others have already said)
You are lucky, my toons still look like bobbleheads. Where is the off switch?
Don’t consider myself lucky, I want the bobblehead, I want to be a part of the fun. Anyways, sounds like just exiting the game completely, then starting the game again makes the bobblehead go away. Wish the same was true to turn it on though.
sounds like we’re both stuck where we don’t want to be. You want to turn it on and are unable to do so. I want to turn it off and am unable to do so.
btw, re-starting the game doesn’t turn it off for me just like it doesn’t turn it on for you.
seems like it really should have an on/off option from the devs.
The giant slayer achievement is in need of some serious modification. Expecting players to kill 1000 giants, when there are only three individual creatures in the entire game that count, is a travesty. The only 3 that count are the giant that spawns in an event in Nageling, the one that spawns in a cave on the east side of Harathi Hinterlands during an event, and Kudu’s monster that only spawns at the end of CoE story mode.
Do you really expect your player base to do CoE story mode 1000 times just for that one boss, or to stand around in Nageling for hours on end for the event to start and do that event 1000 times, or in that cave in Harathi Hinterlands 1000 times? Are you nuts?
I am hereby calling for the immediate reduction of the required amount of giants that need to be killed for that achievement from 1000 to no more than 100. All the other creatures in the game can found found in various groups throughout the world with multiple numbers to fight at a time, so a requirement of 1000 kills is not so bad. These giants, however, are so scarce and in situations that most players don’t stay in for long that it’s ridiculous. The undead risen giants don’t even count!
Do the right thing, ArenaNet. Reduce the required amount for the giant slayer achievement or give us hordes of giants to fight, and make the risen undead giants count while you’re at it.
I’m glad I ran across your post. I’m not at the frustrating point yet, and your information will help me avoid it. My giant kills is at 0, and I’ve completed 60% exploration. Now i know not to expect this to be doable. Thank you.
You guys realize you can relog right and the effect is removed
I tried that and it didn’t work for me.
I simply don’t understand why people are getting so worked up over this.
Take a deep breath; it’s a joke in the spirit of April Fools and will come to pass shortly.
It’s a cool joke – I give them that, but a prank lasting one entire day sucks. Imagine your friend doing a prank on you continuously for the entire day. It transforms from funny to annoying, unless you’re a masochist or something.
It’s only a day.
This is a video game, not real life.
Well, some people have limited time to play so this argument really only affects people with so much time on their hands.
Again, it’s a cool prank. Only what’s cooler is that if they had an on-off switch for it.
Please don’t try to be a White Knight on ANet’s defense, I’m not saying they did a poor job – just saying it’s nice to have some options.
It’s funny that you call me a white knight because lord knows I have a lot of issues with how ANet runs this game and I’ve definitely vocalized a few of them.
However, this harmless joke is not one of them. I’m beginning to think that the “ermahgerd mah character is so oogly halp” spam is the real prank. Thank you ANet

All we’re asking is a fair deal. If people like it, turn it on. If people don’t, turn it off.
I am sure it’s already late for that and whatnot, but a simple planning could have easily included that – not like they coded and tested this before they went home last night.I know, world is not fair, but if we could make it closer to “fair” – that would be awesome. And again, like you said, it’s a video game, not real world – things could be worked out easily.
Hopefully next time they implement something like this, give us options. tnx.
Exit the game completely, then start the game up again, and the big head will be gone. There is an off switch, but they failed to put in an on switch.
I’ve tried re-logging into the game. All I can figure is that the bobbleheads are on a rolling cancelation, because mine still have the fat heads.
You are lucky, my toons still look like bobbleheads. Where is the off switch?
I also, TOTALLY AGREE, bimble.
Where’s the button to turn this childish prank off. The humor doesn’t even last through one event.
Please don’t try this yourself, it will only overload the Trading Post Server and increase my access time.
Since this problem (for me at least) is worst when I first access the TP and following TP accesses are smoother (although they are never as good as they should be), I wondered why it gets better when repeated… so…. I now:
1) Access TP, wait 3 to 5 sec; close TP window.
2) Repeat step 1 until I get the portion of TP that I want.
This has cut my TP access time by roughly half.
Please don’t try this yourself, it will only overload the Trading Post Server and increase my access time.
Time to add my 2 cents worth.
I’ve had this same problem for over 3 months. Every patch, update, or change ANet makes just makes the problem worse.
Yesterday, I was after the Troll in Queensdale, along with about 30 to 40 other players, and my screen froze and froze and froze….. etc.
Note: this wasn’t even a dungeon… it was a noob zone. A place ANet DESIGNED for new players to the game to be playing at around lvl 10 to 15.
I wonder how many new players paid for the game, played to around lvl 15 and then quit?
Quit with bad memories of their experiences at ANET. Any Dev brave enough to give an honest guess to answer that question?
If any Dev actually reads this, just remember that this hurts me, ANet, and everyone still playing GW2. We loose too, whenever someone leaves the game, especially if they’ve had a very bad experience and warns all their friends away.
So ANet, if you can’t fix the game for your own paycheck, then fix it for our (the game players that are still around) good.
Also, please stop adding things to the game that make the problem worse, instead of better. For example, the new AOE loot, while an excellent idea, totally adds another blow to the lag issue. (I used AOE Loot for a couple hours and turned it off.)
I wonder what the situation would be if my PC weren’t powered well above the games “recommended PC requrements” to be able to play the game? ….. lol
Looks like the problem had nothing to do with my system and the suggestions that accompanied the “Unable to Open Archive File” had nothing to do with the real problem.
Seems like the real problem was that the GW2 servers were down.
Now the game is loading from the instalation Disks (no configuration changes made) and i’m hoping that by the time it loads, the servers will be capable of doing the updates, and by the time that completes, the game servers will be up so I can get into the game.
LOL…. HOPE FLOATS ETERNALLY but I’m not holdinging my breath.
Cool, maybe I got a little bit of my sense of humor back.

I’ve had a major software crash and spent the past 3 – 4 days re-installing/configuring my system. Only change to previous build is a switch to ZoneAlarmFree AV +Firewall.
Every attempt to reinstall GW2 results with: “Unable to Open Archive File”. This includes install attempts from my GW2 disks and the download from my GW2 account.
I’ve checked the path to Local.dat: it is exactly as indicated.
I’ve checked the accessability to Local.dat: Seems to be fine.
I’ve checked the writeability of Local.dat: it is writeable.
I’ve checked whether other programs are using Local.dat: No other programs seem to be using it, or should be using it.
Note: ZoneAlarm firewall has allowed full access to and from the 2 GW2 files which require internet access, so it seems that ZA isn’t causing the problem.
Q: So, anyone have any serious (my sense of humor is gone) ideas of how to get past the blockage so I can re-install GW2?
With all the problems of e-mail addresses being stolen and spamed with hacking attempts, I’m trying to find out how to change my account e-mail address to a new dummy address.
I’ve looked through my account and can’t see a way to do change addresses.
Please let me know if I’ve overlooked something.
Thanks
Please give us a way to turn off the daily/monthly tasks portion of the UI.
That way, those of us that don’t bother with them anymore, don’t have to clutter up the game screen with them.
1. Press M
2. Find Ascalon
3. Select way point
4. Travel
5. Proceed to kill 40 somethings
6. Press M
7. Find Hoelbrak
8. Select way point
9. Travel
10. Proceed to kill 40 something
11 . Daily done!No matter how many choices you actually have, you’ll never be happy. There will always be something to kitten about.
Here’s a hint. If you know that dailies are easier done on the starting areas and are that cheap that you don’t want to travel from Orr with your main, park a alt in one of them. You get to level it a bit each day and complete the daily in the process.
Thank you for clarifying this point!
The new daily’s are designed to consume/reduce in game coin.
Seems to me, after reading many of these posts, that ANet is supporting the X-treme gamers only. (possibly because they are the only ones who put real money into the game after initial game purchase).
Well, ANet, I’m not X-treme and my length of play time is almost to the point of adding some real coin for updates.
However, with the current content updates, it is just more proof that the game is not developing for us, who wish to play strictly for fun.
My guild is mostly just me…. guild content out.
I don’t do pvp, wvw, or dungeons (computer won’t handle it)… so all high end content is out.
The changes to the Daily’s even remove them from my play style now.
So go ahead and continue building the game for X-treme players. I’ll save my real life coin so when a better game comes along… i’ll have the coin to buy it.
Thank you ANet for removing the frustration of doing the Daily Quests. Now I just won’t do them any more at all. Only 2 on the list that I would be interested/able to do, so no longer a question of loging in shortly after 4 pm.
In a way it’s sad though, I didn’t miss more than 2 or 3 dailys since I started GW2.
P.S. Guild Missions don’t have any interest for me. I’m only in a guild to avoid the constant chatter/invites that are thrown my way whenever i’m not in a guild.
Now, what to do with the laural….. lol

Interesting thought….
I wonder if Anet realizes the fact that they just made it benifical to other players to let me die so they can to their daily……
It still counts if you revive someone from being downed. Unless the people around you don’t realize that. :X Then I guess they might let you die. :o
Thank you for your response Lambent, I didn’t realize this and hope others will too.
My appologies to Anet, they were a jump ahead of me.
Interesting thought….
One toon I play is a Mesmer, with no regenerative healing. If I am downed, I am dead unless another player steps in to help me.
I wonder if Anet realizes the fact that they just made it benifical to other players to let me die so they can to their daily……
This thead has a dev post icon on it but I can’t find a dev post in any of the pages, was it deleted?!
Yes, there is a Dev post… about an hour after you posted your Question…. lol
First time post to these forums… Prior to this, nothing upset me enough to go to the trouble of logging into the forums.
However, these changes to the Dailys have changed this.
Seems to me, the DODGE count is a very poor choice. I mostly play cloth armor toons (plus Ranger) and my playstyle includes, as my Top Priority, NOT to get into so much trouble as to have to dodge OUT of an attack. My dodges are used up and the mob is generally dead (or I sprint away for distance), before it gets that close to me.
I think many players of these classes, would agree with me.
Only solution I can see is to Farm the Dailys in the noobie zones (for greater surviveability) and clutter up the game play for true Noobies who need the noobie zone for their game to advance.
If this is what Anet intends, then it seems like the noobies are going to suffer/die from greatly overscaled events that are skewed by dozens of lvl 20 to 80 players roaming the zone to get in their Dodge Requirement for the dailys.
I don’t want to dust off my tank just to do Dodges in Dailys.
I also disagree with the choice using combos as a daily but i’ll hold comment until it is fixed.
