Strange…

http://www.gw2gods.com/forum

Then go to “Builds” and then “Elementalist” It’s the only build in that forum, can’t miss it lol

Ok I got to it that way. I’ll try it out. That’s the first build I’ve seen with points in Arcane. I’ll give it a shot.

Thx

Well Reciprocity, I’d love to help but I’m on Ring of Fire, though my guild is one of the best on the server it doesn’t really help you out.

Feel free to friend me in-game and whisper me if you need any help.

I’m not sure if this is something that will help you, but here is a link to my guild forum and it’s the ele build I use for PvE and WvW, so may help you out, may not!

http://gw2gods.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=12

That link is not working for me. It says the requested topic does not exist.

Is Ring of Fire more populated than Dev. Rest? I’d consider moving for the right server or guild. Right now its very hard to enjoy this game not having a good guild and not seeing much population in the zones.

I’ve tried finding a guild. I’m actually in one now that claims to be social and active. It sometimes gets active around peak with maybe 20 people on both most are just AFK a lot of the time using this game mostly for chatting with their friends from time to time.

I’m on Devona’s Rest if anyone has an active/social guild. Its hard finding a guild when you maybe encounter 1 other person per hour out questing. My occasional questions to /map almost never get a response.. sometimes in a major city but never out in a zone.

Problem with Mint is their arrogance and Google hate. Not to mention a multitude of quirky things with the distro. I wasn’t able to use Mint as my work desktop, just too many issues, even after ripping out a lot of their poorly engineered packages like firefox and java. Honestly I’m a little disappointed in the current Linux distros.. Things seemed to be picking up for all distro’s and now the last 2 years most have gotten sloppy.

And Fedora.. omg.. have no idea what happened to that project but you have to go back 3 releases just to get something quasi-stable.

Oh and by the way Ubuntu is dying. Its fallen from the most popular distro every year for the past 3 years.. mainly because no one can stand their new window manager.

Ubuntu has always been the “linux for noobs” and most people move on once they get more skilled with the OS.

lmao MAC OS X is NOTHING like linux. Its a BSD based kernel. It has a drastically different scheduler. Its a completely different OS. Its as different as Windows NT and OS2 Warp. The graphic libraries are nothing like those in Linux. A port of this game to Linux wouldn’t be any easier already having a prot for OS X.

Personally Linux doesn’t get much support because everyone that runs linux also runs windows. Also the ATI and NVidia linux drivers have always been just an after thought and perform very poorly under heavy 3D-type loads. Even if they ported this game to Linux you wouldn’t be happy with the performance.

I use Linux 100% at work as a developer. I use it 100% of the time at home except for gaming. So I run Windows 7 and with VMWare I run my linux VM’s for work. One I use for writing/compiling code, the other runs an Oracle database and some other components. I can run both Linux VM’s, including having the database up and running, and play this game at the same time with no problems… This on a rig that is now 4 years old.

I just spent 2 weeks trying my hardest to get into this game. New player onboarding in this game is more frustrating than any other game and with almost zero population in most zones I never could get help from anyone or ask questions. Game documentation and tutorials were very brief and borderline useless.

Playing an elementalist I constantly struggled, constantly died, was constantly running back, constantly running from aggro, etc… I spent $100 on gems and now at 80 have all exotic gear (whatever the second most rare type gear is) I’ve tried dagger/dagger, I’ve tried staff. Every single fight was a constant near death experience, constantly running off aggro, etc…

For example, trying to discover the entire map I may need to grind into a cave or something but the respawn rate is so high and it takes me so long to grind down a mob I can’t even grind my way in because respawn gets me before I can even clear a path.

I’ve tried stacking toughness, toughness + vitality. I’ve tried full power/precision builds. I’ve tried about a dozen other builds I’ve seen people post online.

I’m a long time veteran of MMO’s.. played nearly all since M59 and spent years playing MUDs before that and have never, ever had and close to so much difficulty enjoying a game as this.

I figured ok just gut thru the PVE content, get to 80 and start WvW. Ok doing that now. But where to go? What to do? I got to WvW I have no idea what all the pie graphs mean. No idea what anything in the WvW Join screene means. Ok course I’ve tried asking in various zones and just crickets. No one even talks in this game it seems. So I just randomly enter some WVW areas. Where do I go? Where is the PVP? What do I do? Just ran around for literally 2 hrs last night trying to find something

I really tried, I wanted to like this game so bad but after 2 weeks I just can’t find the desire anymore. This game just seems so unbalanced or untested, at least for the elementalist class. Just a single mob encounter just seems like a painful grind. I’d almost be convinced to try another class but from the few people I have managed to dialog with in game said all classes are like this except maybe Guardian but don’t really like that type class.

Just some helpful advice from someone who really wanted to like and continue playing this game but just scratching my head at some things in this game.

Ok what am I doing wrong?

Try this, do not use fire attunement. Switch to earth for crippling and blinding, water for healing, and air for mobility.

Depending on your choice on weapons you will have different options. For example, if you are using a staff, you can reflect projectiles and use some area crippling with earth, stun enemies and run faster with aire, and you have massive heal and condition cleansing with water.

Remember that you must move all the time, do not stand in front of the enemy looking how they wipe the floor with you. Run around them, looking for their backs, and if they get too close to you, use your dodge to avoid attacks and keep attacking at a safe distance. Just don’t stop moving, and keep changing your attunements as required.

So I need to be constantly changing between attunements? Also I do stay mobile, constantly moving. Rarely do I stand still.

I have a level 18 elementalist. I’m doing another starting area 1-15 and just flat getting owned on some of these quests… it feels like I’m missing something important.

Like just now had some level 8 quest to find a scout and escort him to safety. So while escorting him like 10 mobs spawned and I was not even remotely close to surviving it. I took maybe 2 mobs down. I have a heal which I spam as fast as the cooldown will let me.

This is why I left back at release but some coworkers have convinced me to come back and told me to do all the starter areas that it helps with an elementalist so that I what I am doing.

I don’t know if I’m spec’d wrong, have bunk gear or what but I’m getting owned on some of the more important quests.

I know its hard to offer help not seeing my gear and stuff, not sure if there is any kind of armory or what not for this game. I’m spec’d mostly fire (fire trait is at level

Not sure what the deal is.. have never have trouble with MMO’s and played nearly all end-game in EQ1/LOTRO/WOW.. so I’m not some noob that can’t play video games.

As was said, try guesting on Tarnished Coast. All areas of the game are populated. Plenty of people leveling alts or simply new players. Your server will determine the quality of life in-game and there are several good ones. With guesting you can skip the pain if you can’t afford to transfer as long as you don’t care about WvW.

I thought transfers were free? sigh

I won’t ever pay money to mitigate a poor game population. I played that game in Wow and spent nearly $2k over the years moving my toons around.

Never did understand why companies will charge people to try and stay interested in their game because their population management skills were lacking.

So I’m stuck where I am I guess, which means I’ll likely grow bored of solo play and move on. Brilliant business model.

It costs gems to transfer (typically around 1800). You can convert gold into gems (current rate is around 3 gold per 100 gems). Therefore you would need 3 × 18 (54 gold) to transfer servers. You can farm 54 gold within a few days casually, let alone easily in around 7-8 hours if you are hardcore at 80; all within the game (no need to spend real money). Not to mention, purchasing 1800 gems is fairly cheap when compared to $2,000 you allegedly spent on world of warcraft. There seems to be a bit of a gap in your potential claim here for a one time fix that apparently is ruining your $60.00 purchase.

Edit – I really don’t get why you would even bother complaining; you just said you spent $2,000 just to transfer characters and now $15 to fix (immediately) your leveling process is the end all for you? Stop trolling and go back to WoW.

Why did you even bother to respond like some socially challenged problem kiddie? Sounds like you need to go back to Wow.

As if I’m lying about spending 2k to impress some random tool who’s opinion holds absolutely zero value with me.

So let me draw this out in crayon for you since you don’t seem to grasp the concept. I’m at a point where I don’t feel like blowing that kind of money on a game any more. What part of that is so hard to understand, troll?

Underworld is still highly populated.
As for all being level 80 – 5 of my toons are level 80 and 3 more are low levels. And I play a lot.

So if I rolled a new toon is Underworld my best bet? I’m not paying for a transfer… only level 17 so no sacrificing much time investment.

Tarnished Coast still has a very healthy lower-level population, because Roleplayers are more likely than most to get bit by the Altitis bug rather than focusing on a single character. I’ve got 16 characters myself, and currently an average character level just below 40, even though three of them are 80’s.

Cool, I’ll try that server.

I’m a completionist.. so I want to do all group stuff along the way. =)

So the population levels displayed in the server browser are bogus? they all say “very high”?

Or is that a metric of how many characters on those realms as opposed to actual current logins?

I’m back after leaving shortly after release. I have a level 17 toon and have been bouncing around to the different starting areas and they are all ghost towns. Is everyone just much higher level now or is Neverwinter a distraction from GW2 right now?

So why is WvW so boring, what am I missing?

So how do I tell what is an “active” server..

Also is it setup so that one realm is always against another realm and it never changes or what?

I’ve been entering WvW and I never see anything going on. I see a battle on the map, spend 10 minutes running there and its gone. No one in sight. There is another one, run for 10min, nada.

None of the waypoins work because they are contested. So I run to one. No one around.

What gives…

I’ve never really been much of a pvper but being bored stiff with Wow’s expac, and now LOTRO’s expac I thought I’d give this game a try.. the PVE is boring the hell out of me so where is the PVP?

I’ve spent 2 nights during peak checking out WvW and its been a yawnfest.

While I agree that, so far, I consider GW2 to be the inferior product to GW1, this is based upon looking at a complete first game and comparing it to a two-month old game. That’s simply unfair.

The only solution is to wait while they put the meat onto this skeleton. Fortunately, this game has no subscription, so it’s possible to simply take some time off and explore the new content once it’s out.

Yea I agree.. I loved GW1 but I’m just scratching my head at this rubbish. Man spent $80 on the dig. delux copy like an idiot. I gave this game 16 levels and didn’t enjoy any of it. Was CONSTANTLY dying or coming very close. Nearly every single battle was a near death. Just not fun at all… Not to mention how many bugged events I came across in only 16 levels… and normally the lower levels are the most polished.. I can only imagine how bad it gets at higher levels.

Yea dude I just bought it yesterday and immensely regret it. I told myself I’d give it until level 20 but Im 16 and have lost inerest. It just seems so horribly untested and unbalanced and buggy.

Anywhoooo… My account will be for sale on craigslist for the cheap if anyone wants a digitial delux edition for $15 cheaper.

Why does this game seem so horribly unbalanced?

I’m playing an elementalist.. CONSTANTLY, I mean CONSTANTLY dying. I’ve geared out the best I can be given how little coin drops and how absurd the trader prices are.. I do EVERY SINGLE TASK, EVENT, VIEWPOINT.. EVERYTHING. I even do each event 2 or 3 times but why does it constantly seem like I’m under geared or to weak for the content at my same level? Im doing a story quest 2 levels below be (instance) and I am not even remotely close to being able to do it. Not even in the same order of magnitude of being capable. Not even remotely close.

But just constantly dying. I mean getting friggin one shotted by stuff 2 levels below me.

Are all classes like this? Im having ZERO fun as an elementatlist.. should I try another class or is this game just not for me?

I’ve played every MMO since Meridian 59 and MUDs for years before that and never ever had this must frustration and lack of fun as this game right now. Just seems like I’m missing something here.

I just hit level 12 as an elementalist. I’m constantly 2-3 levels below the current quests and I do everything. I even do all events 2-3 times each. I’ve done everything up to the last 2 tasks and 1 remaining skill point in Metrica and I’m at a brick wall. At level 12 all my next quests including the main story line are level 15 or higher and I get straight owned.. If I get 2 mobs I’m dead even spamming all skills and cooldowns.

I’ve scoured the trader for upgrades. I’ve tried stacking +vit, then +power.

It seems like I’ve missed an entire chunk of quests or something but I’ve been consistently 2 levels below the quest level the entire time and the gap has no grown to 3 levels and has me stuck.
