Really like a lot of the suggestions here.

My biggest issue with Reaper is the massive divergence they took from Guild Wars 1 — to the point where GW1 skill names or themes weren’t even used. I don’t mind creation of the new, but a little shoutout to GW1 is so satisfying for many players. Much like how Blizzard retains a lot of the IP/Lore created in Warcraft 1-3 in World of Warcraft. It’s that small satisfaction of feeling like: “Hey I remember this from a previous game, cool!”.

I do think orders would be pretty cool, but only if they still were beneficial in small groups or solo. Making a group support specialization without utility enough to play solo makes that specialization unusable for a large portion of the game. I can’t speak for Druid since I don’t play one nor do I much raid.

I really liked one user’s linking between Wind Prayers (dervish) and the Shroud, though I fear it’s unlikely since Reaper already has a “scythe” based shroud, and this could be seen as uncreative. The Shroud could even be called “Avatar of Grenth”. But since this is already used as an asset more or less in a Human racial elite as well as our other elite Lich form I also see it as unlikely.

I think some new conditions may be in order. I remember how exciting it was to get Torment, which plays homage to certain GW1 Hexes like Weaken Knees. I know this is a common request and could also prove troublesome, but something like Disease would be very interesting. We already know that the mechanics don’t have to match exactly, and the way GW2 works, it would probably be pertinent to not allow disease to spread from enemies to allies.

A few more ideas or possibilities:
Corpse exploitation. Utilities or otherwise that exploits the corpses that enemies leave. We have this already in a way with the Jagged Horror spawning from killing enemies. A few interesting corpse exploitation spells in GW1 were Putrid Explosion, Soul Feast, and Necrotic Traversal.
Auras: Necromancer had a few abilities in GW1 with the “Aura” namesake. Although they did not have a particular theme, they were enchantments. Four such spells were Aura of the Lich, Dark Aura, Verata’s Aura, and Withering Aura.
Hexes: Highly unlikely, but access to some hexes could allow for more complex effects on enemies while keeping those effects limited and class/spec specific.

Thanks for reading through. It’s not exactly suggestions (except the last bit) but still I think pertinent commentary.

I’ve been playing gw1 like crazy lately. Vanquished Elona for the 2nd time just for the kitten of it. I’d love to see Elona, love to see Cantha. Honestly if they would just put more nods toward gw1 I’d be infinitely happy. Ember bay was nice but I want to see more things I’d recognize from gw1!

I am not kidding when I say that I’d drop $250 for more guild wars 1 content.

Ofc it would never be priced at that level, but just saying what a hungry consumer I am for the original gw. For me it’s not just nostalgia. I genuinely like tactical RPG gameplay and still play the game daily. Each party I make is like a Magic: The Gathering deck.

I also prefer the lore. Not sure how to explain the difference but gw1 was more serious, was less “high fantasy” and had a darker overtone to the game.

I’d like to see throwing spears and scythes.

Yes I am a nightfall fanboy. I love the setting and love the classes. Still play my paragon daily.

Not sure any dev is looking at this thread anymore but here’s my two cents as someone who’s been playing guild wars 1 since launch and grew up obsessed with it:

1) Most players probably disagree with me and that’s a-ok, but from my perspective I dislike the “cute” baby dragon that looks (as another user aptly put) like a chibi character. It didn’t feel in line with the darker themes of guild wars 1 lore, which Glint is a centerfold character.

2) Thank you for giving us Ember Bay. The scale is good. Scale is one of my primary complaints about the environment in gw2 compared to its predecessor. In gw1 you utilized downscaled models to represent further away objects (for example small trees in the shiver peaks). This created the sense of massive mountains with large swaths of more or less “blank terrain” between the viewer and the object which further made a sense of largeness. Gw2 mapping went away from ’this for obvious reasons but it chilled the sense of scale in the world that gw1 nurtured.

3) I wish there were a few more things that were consistent between the original game and 2. Say what you want about World of Warcraft but by and large the world and the fantasy rules of the world are obeyed. There are things from Warcraft 3 that are just now being shown in the latest expansion pack. I am not a fan of WoW’s gameplay but the environment and subtle nods to the old school Warcraft games keep me coming back to it just for the leveling and exploring experience in each new xpac. If I didn’t know any better, I wouldn’t even think that gw1 and gw2 were the same universe. For example: in gw1, destroyers were the (pen)ultimate foe. Endgame creatures which were fearsome and powerful. In gw2, you experience combat against them in one of the first zones. And they are indistinguishable from most other foes.

As much as I love the environment of ember bay, and love the nods to gw1 especially in the mursaat fortress area, I gotta ask: where are the hydras? Thanks for reading through my rant. On a mobile phone so apologies for any autocorrected items that make no sense.

Guild Wars is such a GREAT game...

I agree that guild wars needs its own subforum. Seriously how hard would it be to just add a Guild Wars 1 General Discussion? It feels like Arena Net is trying to write gw1 out of history. They haven’t peeped about the future of the game since 2013. Even a nice little recognition of gw1 would be amazing. Every now and then put something new on the gw1 website or briefly mention the status of it.

I regularly play gw1. In fact gw1 is my bread and butter – while gw2 is something I play for a week after a patch comes out for it. To me gw2 is a so-so mmorpg with some nice innovations and deviations from the genre. Gw1 is a unique tactical mmorpg.

Why shirk the lore that GW1 created?

in Lore

Just a short thought I had.

Today while standing in The Forgotten City, I overheard an NPC talking about how she was afraid that the exalted were related to the Mursaat, but that there was “no evidence to support their link”.

This was a wonderful chance to link the lore of Guild Wars 2 to Guild Wars’. Margonites or Mursaat could have been indirectly linked to the exalted but instead anet decided to do what they have already been doing since launch, and that is to create an entirely new set of rules and creations to add to their lore. While this is good to an extend in my opinion, they have done it so much that it might as well be an entirely new world.

Again, just my two cents, not sure if anyone feels the same or may even disagree. Cheers

Re-enter Tower of Nightmares instance

It would be nice for frequent disconnecters to be able to reenter a Tower of Nightmares instance. I just ran the long one twice, almost reaching the end each time, before my internet randomly disconnected.

For people who live in an area with terrible internet, it would be really great.

Thanks
