The problem with the world linking is that a smaller server is joining in the fight, but not really getting the credit. So in essence, they are fighting for another server.
I think the concept is good, and it is bringing more people into WvW, but it could be implemented better.
Perhaps you could do permanent links, with a joined name instead of the matchmaking style system that constantly swaps servers out. That way there will always be more people fighting, and they feel like they are doing it for something worthwhile.

At the very least they could make it so you can send them. Like being able to send money to other players, you could send the shards to a friend or guild member that might have use for them. They might even send something useful back to you.

We are a new guild made up of a few members. We understand that everyone has busy lives with work, social commitments, etc.. so we are setting this up to bring together players that aren’t always online, we won’t kick you out because you havn’t been on for a while and there is no need to represent.
If you are able to do a guild mission, join WvW, or help with claiming a hall, then fantastic, but we won’t penalise you for doing your own thing.
