Remove “14.0.58.2 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com” from your C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file. Those server can change, resulting in your trying to connect to something that no longer exists. If you want to continue overriding the IP, use the -assetsrv command instead.
Try running the game on port 80 and 443. (Gw2.exe -clientport 80)
To verify it’s not a software problem, press WindowsKey+R and open msconfig. Under the boot tab, check safe boot and select networking under it. Click OK and reboot. Your computer will start in safe mode. The launcher should still work, however you will not be able to play the game like this. Open msconfig and uncheck safe boot to return to normal.
According to the pathpings, you are seeing quite a bit of packet loss, upwards of 90% at LDN-London.as6453.net. The hops after that don’t respond to pings however, causing the trace to stop. You would need to use a program such as Ping Plotter to see the full picture. To work around this problem, you would need to use a VPN to reroute your connection through a different network.
I tried doing the first part however there were no servers whatsoever in the hosts file. Could this be why my client is failing to connect?
Seems like quite a few people are having this problem, myself included. I haven’t been able to log-in for a few days now (Yes i have submitted a ticket before somebody asks).
I am also one of the ones that cannot log in since the latest update, would be nice to see an update or acknowledgement form anet that they are working on the issue.
Hi, my GW2 client had a small update when logging in yesterday evening and since then i have been unable to log-in. Specifically i click ‘log-in’ then after about 20 seconds it pops up saying ‘The game client is unable to gain access to the log-in server at this time’. I was able to log-in earlier in the day before the client had the small update. I have already submitted a ticket but was wondering if others are having this problem.
I have an i7 2600k and a GTX 680 but my FPS is pretty low. I get 20-40 fps no matter what settings i choose, in fact i probably get an extra 5 frames by setting everything on low.
I used to play on a GTX 560 Ti and i got a lot better FPS (60+) so im really confused.
Since the last update today I can only play for a couple of minutes before the game just freeze and the whole computer restarts. Just before it happens I can hear my graphic cards turn into hyper mode. This hasn’t happend before in any other games, and this is the first time since i started playing GW2 2 weeks ago.
Anyone else experiencing this – is there a way to fix it?
I7 950
2xGTX580 SLI
12 GB HyperX Ram
I have the same problem, anybody got any knowledge of this?
Nvidia recently released new drivers (306.23) which has completely fixed the strange crashing issue i was having with GW2, so happy i can now play it in all its beautiful glory without having to reset every 10 minutes.
Im having the exact same problem as you Artur, you are not alone lol Whenever i tried to completely remove my drivers, my comp would always automatically install drivers when i rebooted (even in Safe Mode), is this normal?
I have an ASUS card can i still use EVGA Precision? or do i have a similar programme like it?
Hi Retzie – This is certainly a curious issue… graphics issues such as that are usually a result of overheating, bad, or missing drivers. I would suggest a clean install of the newest drivers as well as updating your DirectX.
The game client requires the latest DirectX 9 components; this is true even if you have DirectX 10 or higher already installed. Please follow the instructions at Microsoft’s web site to install the newest DirectX 9 update:
Please be sure to save the file to your Windows desktop. Then create a new folder on the desktop and extract the DirectX files into it. Once they have been extracted open the new folder and use the DXsetup file to install DirectX.
Unfortunately this didn’t work, however i do have a picture of the actual error now (see below, hope you dont have a bad neck :P). Usually i would have to hard reset my computer but by changing the Timeout Detection in my registry and playing GW2 in windowed mode i was able to see this error message pop up and a GW2 message saying ‘GW2 has had to shut down because it has encountered a serious graphics error’ or something along those lines.
Iv looked at the temperatures for my graphics card and CPU whilst playing GW2 and they are both normal. Also done a memory test which said my RAM was fine.
Here you go, thanks for helping.

I generally only get about 10-15mins of gameplay (sometimes only a few seconds) before my game crashes, the sound usually carry’s on as normal and strange diagonal dots appear across the screen. Sometimes i have to do a hard reset and other times GW2 will close with a message popping up about a graphics error. GW2 is the only game that i have this problem with.
Any idea how to fix this?
