Hi all, minor bug here. For characters that didn’t unveil the ‘map’ of the area there that covers the spider cave and Cragstead in Wayfarer’s if you go and zone in now it doesn’t actually update the map (you still get the POI just fine).

What really gets me is that a friend of mine has this and can just allocate any stats he wants to it.. but for anyone who didn’t get it before this update (Which was NEVER mentioned that it’d be removed) we’re just out of luck?

I find it nearly impossible to believe that you thought they’d keep selling an item that had one of it’s stats removed?

Or did you think they’d just allow everyone to buy that item from then on and pick their own stats? They may as well have just kept those couple items then and removed all the other ones.

…actually I assumed the stats would be changed as per the outline. I believe explorer (power>prec>mf) was going to become assassin’s? or something like that (prec>power>crit).

…AND… what’s wrong with having items where you can pick the stats? they all cost the same so it’s not like there’s an issue there … if we were talking about crafted items or mystic forge ascended (where t6 mat is different) then I could understand. Talking about ascended vendor items where the price is the same across the board it’s not an issue to put back some items which would let you choose stats.

Hi all,

This is mostly addressed to ArenaNet since no-one else really has the power to do anything and I think I can anticipate most player-responses.

Thanks heaps for the updates, the living story has been a LOT of fun lately, especially with the invasions… and to have SAB back, love it!

I am however incredibly let-down about the removal of the ascended MF items from the vendors. I am aware that the items already purchased/found (of which I have 2) give you the option to change stats, that’s fantastic … I’m not after these items for the stats but specifically because of the lore. Namely the Jewel of Ahdashim and the Armbrace of Truth.

I never got around to buying the Jewel for its stats because it didn’t have the Utility infusion slot, I was still going to buy it eventually. I never got around to buying the Armbrace because I spent my laurels on neck pieces or rings for alts (I’m up to 7 80s now)… but I was going to buy it eventually.
Had I known they would be removed I would have re-prioritized and bought them pre-patch.

Like the Karma change wasn’t really communicated I was hoping you would be able to re-instate these items for a short time so that I would be able to purchase.

thanks,
-Reya

So – what sigils do you use?

I’m going D/D & P/P PvE and trying to figure out:

1) do Sigils of Force stack?
2) if they don’t stack i’ll probably go Force + Accuracy or Bloodlust – are there other decent options that you use and why?
3) (trivia question) Does Sigil of Blood steal health (dmg+heal) or simply heal you?

…yet, I’m still curious – if you consider yourself a decent thief, what Sigils do you use (and are you zerker/rampager or something else?)?

Why cant i run cof whenever i want to?

Reya.1895

There is a difference between “If I want to do X, I can do it” and “If I want to do X now, I must be able to do it now”.
The former is more or less true, the latter no, and in my opinion does not need to be either.

This is not about cof being available for anyone at the appropriate level to do, this is about the demand to be able to do it at will at whatever time, and branding it “DENIED ACCESS” because you have to do something else before you can do that content you want.

Imagine a post saying:
“I want to kill golem for the rare, but I was too bored to do the pre-event and so it failed and golem did not spawn. DENIED ACCESS.”
Yeah, I know it is not a dungeon, but the attitude is exactly the same.

I think many of us who reacted negatively to the original post will agree that perhaps the frequency of the event is too high. Or that the event is too long. What I think triggered most of the “bashing” posts, is the attitude “I want my candy and I want it NOW”.

If you think something does not work well suggest an improvement. But if you come to the forums crying because you were not able to do cof last night before bed as if this is the single most game breaking issue or something personal against you, you are unlikely to get any sympathy.

The key difference here, which feels like excessive repetition but also seems necessary, is that I (and the OP) have done the event countless times … it’s not that I want my rare NOW … it’s that I’ve done this entry thing, 100 times.
I did CoF story, I got gear that means I won’t suck and hold my party members back, I made a dungeon-like trait and utility build, I grouped various people together to be able to do it …
…oh wait, that event, the time-wasting one which I’ve done 100 times. It’s locking the gate again.

In the example you gave, like the pre-events for meta dragons/etc … that’s different. People have the expectation that to get to Claw or Jormag or Maw or whatever you have to do the preevents because those bosses and rewards are associated to those events.
Currently the end-boss of a dungeon path and the rewards are tied to running the dungeon, not even ALL the dungeons have gates – but the few that do are incredibly annoying.

Like I suggested, if you put the time gate into the instance itself instead of outside then groups would have a clearer expectation of what they’re going to have to deal with.

Guest to another server? Yeah that can work, if you can find one with an open gate…but you shouldn’t have to – it’s a work-around to a ‘problem’.

Reya.1895

I’ve read these dungeon forums for about 5 minutes and you dungeoneers all disgust me, 95% of you are crying about this or that being a minor nuisance, as someone thankfully said just do the kitten event or do a different dungeon…if not suck it up it’s a fricken game

and you are clearly someone who doesn’t understand dungeons and probably doesn’t run them
if you’re trying to get a skin from dungeon X, why change your mind (and that of everyone in the group) to run dungeon Y? there is literally no point

as i’ve said before the discussions about the difficulty of dungeons (and by relation, speed paths for farming) are a different thing. the issue with gates closed for dungeon entrances is what is being discussed – and you might enjoy blowing 10-12min opening a gate but people who actually run dungeons regularly, especially with PuGs, don’t.

on top of that one of the strengths of GW2 is that ‘if you want to do X you can go do it, not everyone has to enjoy it, not everyone has to do it, but you can do it’. this is especially true for some of the limited content that was put in like SAB and Crab Toss. yet, with dungeons – whether or not you want to you have to blow that time doing those DEs when what you want to do is a dungeon.

To offer some constructive ideas to get away from the back-and-forth-ing.

1: (already suggested by someone else) increasing the time between DEs so that it doesn’t lock as often.
2: having a ‘dungeon lobby’ area once you are in that then lets you in to each path, so that running a different path doesn’t involve zoning back out into the world
3: adding the “time sink” aspect and unlocking to the beginning of the actual dungeon itself rather than an open-world sink. if nothing-else, this will help shape expectations of the group, what they’re going to deal with as they form, etc, instead of creating frustrating situations of 10+ servers with locked entrances.
4: increasing the difficulty of the dungeons so they’re not as cruisy, in particular speed-paths – to help shift dungeon running to ‘earning skins’ more than ‘farming gold’.

The only post worth reading in this thread is 3rd one from the top, by Silver.

…so a sarcastic jab is OK but constructive suggestions are not? Tell me Obi Wan of forums, what should we say???

what constructive comments? most of the posts are people telling him he’s lazy. the sarcastic post was at least pointing out that his reasoning was silly – because the same issue lies with his goal of dungeon running in the first place.

Nikaido.3457 nailed it in better words than me, yet WolfOwl still claims that somehow they’re still a necessary element of the game. No.

“I personally find things like that can be gratifying. Earning your way into a dungeon is more satisfying than simply cruising through it to get the loot at the end.
May as well be an NPC at the entrance that hands out rares and resets every 5 minutes.
And you’re not calling for intelligent arguments when you classify something as “stupid.” You’re essentially making the statement that you’ll give credit to no argument that contradicts your point of view, locking the discussion into a “us vs them” cluster.”

so you get called on your ‘gratifying’ comment and then cover by saying you find the whole chain gratifying, yet that’s still silly? like i said doing it once – ok, doing it a few times, ok – but doing it endlessly is just frustrating and stupid. i’ve already earned and re-earned the right to run a dungeon when i want countless times.

what’s more we’re talking about something that is forced on the audience. it’s not like ‘you enjoy doing DEs and I don’t, so you do DEs and I don’t’. it’s ‘regardless of whether or not you want to blow the time to unlock the entrance, if you want to do the dungeon get to it’.

Your next comment is equally bad – about getting handed rares. That’s got nothing to do with a locked dungeon entrance. That’s about whether or not dungeons are too easy – sure, if they are, then submit that dungeons should be harder. I agree, speed-run paths should be harder, no argument there … instead you turn it into a bad argument about something hardly related.

My comment about it being stupid is because it IS stupid. The first few times it makes sense … in other games you have to get keys, attuned, gear levels, all sorts of stuff… to ‘earn your way’ into a dungeon. It makes sense, it’s great, it’s fun.
Having a time sink (which is literally nothing more than a time sink) as the gate for entering a dungeon is stupid when it repeats, and re-repeats, and re-repeats, especially when it locks between running path X and path Y.

@WolfOwl.

Frankly? A “locked” dungeon is stupid because it is not fun.

CoF P1 is the extreme example where running it takes less time than unlocking the dungeon.

In other cases, especially in PuGs or when playing with people new to dungeons the extra time tacked on by having to unlock an entrance is simply not fun. There’s absolutely nothing fun about it, at all, ever. Dynamic events? sure, great. The fact that dungeon entrances stay locked on most servers is not only testament to the fact that they go contested far too quickly, but that no-one gives a kitten about clearing them because they are not fun.

@ the fanboy remark, it seemed appropriate due to the lack of intelligent posts actually discussing the mechanics of locked dungeon entrances, and more poking fun at a poster. Which is appropriate when most of them are defending a mechanic in a game simply because ’that’s how GW2 is’.
The few remarks that seem to say ‘I like unlocking dungeon entrances’ are also clearly posted by people who rarely go to dungeons and need to do those events.

The only post worth reading in this thread is 3rd one from the top, by Silver.

Wow. The overwhelming fanboy replies here are just … wow.

I hate having to unlock an entrance. Arah was by far the worst, thank goodness they fixed that up.

Don’t get me wrong, the dynamic events are fun (especially the Arah gate one) – but to have to do it to get into a dungeon?

Reality check: I have limited time before I have to go to bed to get up for work again. I spend 10-20min forming a dungeon group (thankfully now made faster due to 3rd party website) and then we all find that the entrance is contested. The group falls apart instantly and everyone leaves to do something else.

I’m not asking for it to be ‘handed to me’, I simply want to be able to run various content as time allows.

Now specifically with CoF, please don’t lie and say ‘it only takes a few minutes’. It doesn’t. If you have to start it from the actual cave the Charr is in it’s the escort time all the way there + 6min clearing boring waves of mobs. The first two, three, even 10 times you do it it’s ok …. after that, are you serious? I have to do a 10-14min event AGAIN?! I thought I killed these guys over and over already, the Pact just can’t hold a gate can they.

What’s even worse is if you finish a path, come out of the dungeon with everyone wanting to go for the next path – and no, all contested, again.

CoE is just as bad, if not worse. Stop being fanboys – locked dungeon entrances are stupid. The time to form up a group, get there and then do the dungeon is enough as it is, it doesn’t need a locked gate too.

To those crying about his ‘I want it now’ attitude. Stop.
The fact that CoF P1 is ruining the game is a different topic.

Oh gud

The only other thing worth mentioning is how effective/rewarding the Zaishen quests are – but I didn’t mention them earlier ‘cause ’information overload’, lol.

Other than that – use the Wiki, it’s amazing.

What are the requirements to do the Zaishen quests?

The only requirement to pick up a Zaishen quest is to be able to get to the battle islands. From Prophecies you need to reach Lion’s Arch, from Nightfall you need to play through the first island or ‘hire a ferry’ (a player who can skip the content for you) and in Factions you need to finish the first island to reach Kaineng.

Once you can reach that port-city of that area of Tyria you can go to the other campaigns AND the battle islands for pvp and Embark/GreatTempleofBalthazar which is where you can pick up Zaishen quests.

DOING Zaishen quests can be an entirely different deal since the targets and objectives are anywhere and everywhere.
You can hold up to 3 quests of each category at any given time, so feel free to pick up ones you can’t do yet.

Going to respectfully disagree with Clay for the primary reason that the population there is so low now, and secondly because you can solo all the content to achieve HoM points anyway.

I agree, get in a guild, the more GW1 players that can help you the better. Get your heroes as soon as possible, i strongly disagree with blowing hours/days/months trying to make hero builds that will work.
Also lots of people are saying use Monk healers (heroes), i actually disagree on this point in a big way too. Monk players are amazing, monk heroes are really .. .bad. … i use Necro/Rit/Ele hybrids to heal. I also disagree with playing a monk, personal preference, but find I’m most effective when playing as a spike-damage dealer or similar so i can nuke dangerous targets and let my heroes deal with the rest (eg. elementalist).

Bottom line is – why are you going to play? if your primary goal is to get HoM points for GW2, then don’t spend too much time trying to get into a guild or mess around with builds or anything – do what you can to set yourself up asap to get some points! On top of that, don’t blow short-term expense on a handful of points, aim for 30 and work on whatever the hardest 30-point thing will be, plenty of points will ‘just happen’ along the way.

If you plan on playing to get involved, see all the content, etc (btw, lore-wise you’ll get from completing each campaign once, don’t really need more than that) then being in a guild and stuffing around is probably going to suit you just fine.

If you want to go for 30/50 HoM points (all the tangible rewards) then here’s a few tips to get you going.

1: don’t aim for 50/50 HoM or God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals titles, time investment will be too high, you won’t do it
2: use http://hom.guildwars2.com/en/ to track your progress and set goals on what you’ll do to reach 30
3: pick a character and focus on playing it, try not to make alts – you only need alts for 50/50.

a] your first goal should be (as grandmafunk suggested) playing in Nightfall to get the heroes, it’s the most rewarding of all the campaigns, gives you heroes and free bonus skills (with hero skill points)
b] find some skill builds for heroes that will work anywhere, i have a few i can give you or you can look up something like pvxwiki – the sooner you get those builds on your heroes the easier+faster it will be, invest in your heroes as fast as you can as early as you can – cheap max-stat weapons, good skills
c] as early as you can pick up the storybook (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Storybook) related to the campaign you are playing through. the bonuses they give for content you’ll be playing through anyway shouldn’t be overlooked!
d] apart from collecting heroes and giving them weapons/skills focus on completing each campaign (all missions, including optionals you can skip) on Normal WITH bonuses for a few easy titles toward HoM and significant map/town exposure.

Like I said feel free to add me, i’m in aussie timezone though.

-Reya
PS: i have a stack of stuff in GW1 that i would sell for GW2 gold – minis/money/weapons/etc. we’d both have to agree on an exchange rate and naturally there’s no way of affirming either of us don’t get scammed. up to you, i’m willing to risk since i won’t use the stuff any more anyway.
PPS: Dyntheos.5719 just re-read your post. If you only want a few points you shouldn’t buy all campaigns. You have to have Eye of the North to access HoM, you have to have one other campaign as well as Eye of the North, I suggest Nightfall.

Will do boss! I’ll let you know as soon as I get it! It’s a good tihng that the GW Trilogy is only 29.99 bucks!

These are good ideas, but I would suggest against them. Play GW1 like it was played during its glory days. Find a guild (there are still players left), do some cooperative missions, have fun making your own build.

Don’t rely on heroes and PvX builds to get you through the game. Enjoy the game as it was originally intended. That was when it was glorious.

If you want titles and things, go for it, but really I would just play the game for the fun of playing the game, because without any rewards or titles, the game is good enough to play.

Are you really suggesting him to have Alesia carry him through the game?

To OP: do yourself a favour and get a good gwpvx monk build on your heroes. Will spare you a lot of headdesks.

I haven’t seen how monks play yet or even know about them although I’ll research about them and keep that in mind! Thanks!

Oh yea, and I have a few friends in GW2 who are willing to play Gw1 with me

Wait… people who didn’t even attend want a chest for doing nothing? Seriously?

If they had given out gold, i wouldn’t care.
If they had given out exotics, i wouldn’t care.
They gave out Precursors to heaps of people KNOWING that a decent-sized audience were unable to attend.

Also note that ‘doing nothing’ – what do you mean? playing the game for 3 hours was ‘difficult’? was it ‘hard’? i participated for the rest of the weekend … from the start all the way up to me going to bed, then finding out the next day the Ancient Karka finale had spewed precursors at all the people who were able to hang around long enough.

I want my CHANCE at that event @ that chest. If i have to play through a 3 hour event for that to happen, fine. I was on for the Lost Shores event – just not the dc’ing bugged finale where they decided to reward everyone but Oceanic people.

you make a good point – i don’t think i ‘deserve’ more whilst not being able to attend. what does frustrate me is that they handed out precursors … if they hadn’t done that, if it had been anything else, i wouldn’t care – i was ok with missing the event.

ideally i would like a chance at that chest just like everyone else had – i don’t want a handout. that’s simply not going to happen however, since it was a 1-off event.

BUT YOU GAVE OUT PRECURSORS, WTK?!

@loco and serval – agree
clearly the issue is that all previous one-time events like halloween cinematics and the former LS stuff was ok. it was fun, but if you missed it it wasn’t a big deal … by comparison missing a decent chance at a precursor is a big deal.

… why couldn’t they just track who participated in the event (so people who didn’t play couldn’t claim) and give people access to the chest via another path that meant (a) it was accessible over a 24 hour period instead of 2min @ the end of a 1-time event … and (b) the reward could be really good because people would only be able to get it once, not re-run it every 3 hours.

@ tifa. your original post was not sarcasm, it was rude and stupid.

what did i expect to get out of this? 2 things

1) express dissatisfaction with the way the finale was handled for a 1-time event. a considerably-less-significant-reward could be achieved for those who participated without excluding and isolating people who didn’t. precursors and limited skins are a very bad choice for this, especially as this is not like halloween where over a 12-24hour period anyone could attend.

2) express the desire for some kind of compensation at how cheated i feel. i have no idea how this would be achieved. i did participate for everything else – i do feel cheated.

edit: let me clarify a comparison. I would have LOVED to get a ‘the crossing’ from the mad king’s chest when that dungeon was available. really i would, i nearly bought one when i didn’t get one as a drop. I have no issue with the fact that I didn’t get one, none at all – why? I was given ample opportunity to try and simply was not successful or ‘lucky’ enough, I could still buy the skin if I wanted to. I LOVED the halloween stuff overall, dealing with the bugs was no big problem, the content was beautifully spread across 24-48 hour gaps so I could experience everything.
This was not the case with the finale for Lost Shores where the reward was potentially MASSIVE by comparison and so time-limited I had no opportunity to attend, despite doing everything else the event had.

Lost Shores: couldn't attend final event due to time zone

@ SimianChaos – well said. I honestly didn’t mind missing the finale – which I simply had to miss … then I found out it ‘vomited precursors’. Now I’ve realised I not only missed a chance at something incredibly useful for me but I have to compete against all the players who did get the boost.

This wasn’t like the one-time event of Halloween.

…also at you trolls who clearly didn’t read my post. Thanks for filling this thread with useless crap. /sarcasm

@ bufko, Well as I said, I see the problem in offering compensation. So admittedly I don’t have a real solution – other than perhaps measuring that I actually attended and played through EVERYTHING ELSE the weekend had to offer.

@ Febrizzio, I was able to get up early and stay up every day of the weekend but quite frankly I’m not going to turn up late for work or take leave so I can attend a finale that I didn’t think would be that important. **edit: because for me the finale was early monday morning, i had to leave for work before the event even started

Disconnect at the end of Lost Shores Event – Read this

We have a team looking into disconnection problems that prevented some people from receiving their event rewards.
We will implement a solution so that people who participated will get their rewards, but this takes work on our end, so it will not happen today.
Keep an eye on our forums and social media channels, we will let you know once we have the solution in place.
Thank you, and we apologize that you were unable to claim your rewards.

…ok so, I’m an aussie and was unable to attend the final event at all due to sleep/work. What I read above is that disconnects/bugs that affected the limited audience that could attend the event will be reimbursed their lack of loot from the event … that’s nice. What about everyone who played all weekend but couldn’t make that final event and are now hopping on to browse the forums and finding out that you threw goodness knows how many precursors into the game?

Seriously? I miss a chance at a 150-200g+ item because I had to sleep? My contributions and involvement over the weekend leading up to that point count for nothing?

People are complaining a lot over the RNG. BLC’s from Halloween (I actually bought a heap of keys and got a greatsaw – tyvm random system) and now new consortium chests… I have no problem with this. If I want to gamble, I’ll gamble. If I don’t want to gamble I won’t buy keys or chests … If i want an item out of the chests I’ll gamble or I’ll save up gold and buy since nothing is account-bound… but this? Are you serious? I’m missing a chance at a pre-cursor because you don’t like the time-zone I live in?

If you hadn’t put pre-cursors in in a big way … if people who got them were the same as randomly getting them from a big event in Orr, fine – that’s no different. It certainly doesn’t seem that way though, people claiming their entire chat log was filled with people linking the pre-cursor exotics they got and in some rare cases even 2.
If it had just been rares and exotics, no precursors. Fine. Whatever. I wouldn’t be pissed if I missed an event where everyone was handed a chest that had 20g cash and a few items, or a 30g exotic and some other random loot.

While I’m not hopeful you’ll even read this, let alone action anything (especially considering the mammoth thread on ascended gear) – could you? It would be nice to see something like ‘Hi if you participated in the defense of LA, scavenger hunt, investigation and invasion of the new area we will consider you eligible for a shot at this chest’. I understand there are problems with that kind of solution but I would like SOME kind of solution for forcing me to deal with an even worse kittened economy and the hate of knowing you threw items at people who are awake at the one-time-only period that all this event, and all future events will probably be in.

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

ohai – i was following this thread a lot during the day but didn’t get a chance to post. also it’s 128 pages long so i posted somewhere else ~_~
summarized my thoughts and impact:

http://www.ehmry.com/topic/1026-linsey-murdock-unveils-new-high-end-ascended-gear/#entry9692

tl;dr ascended gear is pointless, if not bad – also stupid and badly communicated. people are particularly upset about this change, not because of it’s immediate impact in the next few months, but the ongoing impact it will have on the game.
