The standard Staff Ele WvW build: http://intothemists.com/guides/guide.php?id=107
Thanks for all the advice from everyone. After spending a lot of time looking at many, many builds I realize there is no good reason to go 30pts into fire magic.
I have been rocking a build very similar to this, and it has pretty much done what I wanted to do—minus getting all the expensive gear.
Thanks again.
Title says it all. I just hit 80 on my ele and I want to do a lot of dps in WvW zerg play. Most of my alts play some sort of healing support. Based on what I’ve seen in zerg WvW play, most commanders call for massive AoE damage after CCs. I want to primarily run a staff DPS build that utilizes Fire Magic.
So far, I can only think my build would be something like:
30/25/0/15/0
Full Zerker Armor/Trinkets
Scholar Runes???? (not sure)
No idea on Slot Skills
The above could be totally wrong, and that’s probably why I’m posting on here. Need some guidance.
I would primarily like to play in the back line in zerg play. Anyone have any builds like this that they wouldn’t mind linking? Thanks in advance!
So I’ve rolled VomitSpit’s build he linked except I put Scholar Runes in my slots instead of Ruby Orbs. So far, it is an amazing build and exactly what I’m looking for. 4-5K crits on heartseeker when someone is below the health threshold is amazing. Great survivability too when I want to join in on the zerg at points.
10/10 SpitVomit
Awesome! I’ll try these out today.
I did notice you are using Ruby Orbs instead of Runes. I’m willing to give that a go, but curious why not something else like Scholar or Divinity Runes?

I’ve recently “really” gotten into WvW with the new seasons update. I’ve been running frontline with the zerg on my guardian, but I have a thief I never get around to playing. I know scouting is a huge component for WvW. I would like to create a thief build that has awesome survivability (no use having a dead scout!) and able to put out the DPS if needed when I’m running solo during scouting.
If push came to shove, I’d rather the survivability over DPS since waypointing and repairing doesn’t seem as fun as relaying info to the zerg.
Anyone have any links to a build that might work for this criteria?
Thanks in advance!
(Oh, and if it matters, I’ve never ran thief in WvW but I do run 100% zerker D/D in PvE).
My next question is, besides the video I posted earlier, what is the ideal zerker spec for running dungeons? In other words, what trait spec/slot skills do you use along with your zerker’s armor for running dungeons?
Actually every profession I’ve played so far I’ve invested in a set of zerker’s armor with ruby orb trinkets. Guardian is the only prof I haven’t spec’d for DPS.
I don’t know about anyone else, but the reason I went Healway was to help my groups get through dungeons.
And though it sounds vain, I’m not necessarily concerned about hitting like a truck with zerker’s for my guardian. I’m more concerned with not being BAD, which in this case it seems not hitting like a truck=being bad.
But if you die a lot from the zerker’s, what makes you bad? If the group you run with isn’t all zerker’s EITHER, what good are you?
What about this build? http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=9GKZP3oyik0#t=148
Is this closer to ‘the truth’?
I usually don’t post on the forums—hear me out! I’m not a bad player, but not the best.
I was unknowingly guesting on Blackgate. I did LFG for an AC run. I was on my Guardian. I was spec’d 100% Healway Guardian (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/WvW-The-Healway-Guardian).
I was with a Warr/Warr/Ele/Mes. Someone pulled the Spider Queen and it was dead BEFORE it crawled to the spot you normally stack. I thought it was a bug/glitch. WTF.
The graveling sob after the spider queen was the same. We stacked and ALL of the mobs and the champ were dead in about 3-4 secs. I started asking in my group what was going on. They told me that they knew “how to roll” and that “you’re bad, but it’s okay”.
We killed Kholer in about 15 seconds. I asked them why I was bad and told them my build (healway guardian). They all freaked out and said my build was crap and started offering suggestions.
At the end I switched to my low level warrior for the XP (like most people do) and they kicked me for it. I guess they had no tolerance for that.
So my question is simple: How is it possible to kill bosses in AC as fast as I described and why is the Healway Guardian build bad (according to people on Blackgate)?
I thought it was quite good, tbh. Thanks.
Thanks all for the tips! Definitely going to spec conditions after reading your comments. I might do a power/rifle build later with full Berserkers, but seems like if I’m doing pistols it would be best to do conditions.
I’m a fairly new player. I had NO IDEA how complex Engineer was going to be when I hit level 80. I’m big into PvP—both WvW and sPvP. I realize that there is no right or wrong way to play Engineer since there are so many options.
Observations about Engineer:
—Not a huge fan of sporting a rifle
—Not a fan of the Elixer Gun, but can be fun
—Love Grenades but carpal tunnel nightmare
—Love Flamethrower but range is crap
That said, I think I’ve decided on going dual pistol. Since sPvP will be my main focus, it seems legit. However……
I’m about to purchase my first set of Exotic Gear; I cannot decide.
IF I’M GOING DUAL PISTOLS:
—Do I want to go full Berserker’s and stack crit?
—Do I want to go full Carrion/Rampager and go for conditions?
I’m leaning towards conditions, but IF I go crit (i.e. Berserkers) I do have the option to use nades in WvW or Dungeons/PvE stuff.
I seriously cannot decide. I would appreciate some feedback from experienced engineers before I drop all my gold on armor/weapons/runes/trinkets/etc.
tl;dr Newb Engineer needs armor/gear advice
Just came back to the game. I realize that if I find a great guild it will increase my likelihood of playing the game. I’m looking for a well-rounded guild that likes to do most things, is reasonably large and established, and does like to do PvP and other endgame dungeons, etc. Preferably uses Ventrillo.
Thanks!
