@Kaimick,
Right, I get it now!
You’re just on the wind up here, aren’t you. We’ve been trolled!
Good one but you should have saved it for April 1st!!!
Back to the original topic, this one particular issue that I’m talking about (mouse right click) has been raging on the forums for 6 months with no meaningful feedback from the game developers – pretty much bears out what the Original Post is saying in my opinion.
@Kaimick,
Gaile is a support liaison, not a developer and I’m sure you know that. In other words there is no post from a developer. Please try and get your facts straight before you post, thanks.
@RoShamBo.2618
A dev, and a moderator both commented on the long ever going thread on right click. So I guess your zip nothing is false. Can you link me the post from the game developer regarding the mouse right click functionality please? If I’ve missed something I’d really like to see it. I’ve seen the reply from Gaile but that was basically saying the same thing Dalmarus said in this thread.
Then they responded to the issue, just because it is not done on your time doesn’t mean they are not listening to you, or maybe they decided not to fix anything, this is why I understand why developers and their support don’t comment on threads. Gaile told you straight out what the deal was. If you have not seen a fix they probably decided it was not an issue or not to do anything. Yet here you are blasting away at the Dev team for not answering post, just like my original statement said.
Our development team reviews play input on a regular basis. They are aware of this suggestion, but have not yet reached a decision on what changes, if any, they will make to targeting.
There is a lot going on right now with the upcoming event, but after that, the team will take a look at a lot of different game elements, and may make some changes in the future.
Sorry I don’t have more specific information, but you can be sure this is not being ignored or rejected without due consideration.
Thanks for understanding.
So I have highlighted the areas where they told you up front, gave you your feed back you are pleading for in this thread, then you come here and say they never respond or say anything?
Yet here is your response, do you consider it a non response cause you don’t like the answer or statement giving, or do you not like the outcome?
Oh FYI
The development team is sent feedback and suggestion reports from the Community team 5 days a week (sorry – even we need a little time off, haha). They are extremely busy working on the game, but come and answer posts when they can.
Keep the suggestions, feedback, thoughts, ideas, and constructive complaints (
) coming so we have plenty to give them each day.
^ this is nothing like Gailes
What’s your problem Kaimick? I asked if you could link me the developer post you said had been made, that’s all! Both Dalmarus and Gaile have advised that the devs are made aware of issues raised in the forums. Sounds the same sort of thing to me. If this is the case then all well and good.
Now can you please link me the post from the game developer you said had been made. If I’ve missed it then I’d like to see it. This right click issue has bugged me since day one and I really want to know what the devs have to say.
If there is no such post then please don’t post false information in the forums. It doesn’t do anyone any good.

I had high hopes for this game. I still think it could be great once it’s actually finished and fit for purpose but I’m done with wasting my time for now. I’ll check back in from time to time to see what’s happening. Maybe in 6 months or so it might become the game we hoped it would but based on the first 6 months I’m not convinced
Might see some of you in Defiance. I hope that game doesn’t disappoint the way GW2 has.
Over and out!
Quote removed since the post has been removed ~ Dalmarus
More or less how I feel about the right mouse button being used for target acquisition/start auto-attack/activate and also to pan the camera!
This causes massive issues where moving and panning the camera causes loss of target, attacking a target you didn’t want to, activating something you didn’t want to. This has plagued GW2 players from day one and there have been threads open about this for 6 months and yet what has been done about this? What communication have we had from anyone at ANet about this? You guessed it – nothing, zip, nada!
How can this have gone on with the amount of forum noise about this issue for 6 months with no kind of a response?
(edited by Moderator)
Hi Xephier, I couldn’t agree more with what you’ve said above. I have sent an e-mail off to ‘forums@arena.net’ asking for an explanation of the ‘Main’ thread’s closure (linked by Patu above) and for consideration to be given to unlocking it, all in the nicest possible way of course.
The response I get (if any) will help me decide whether I keep playing this game or not.
I hope the reason they closed it was because they already have plans to add the option and so there’s no need to keep the discussion.
Hey Mithran! If this was the case then a little bit of feedback or information from ArenaNet would be nice! You know, show your customers a little bit of courtesy and respect.
Right now it seems that when you get a job as a moderator on these forums you are also issued a pair of jack-boots. Thread closures with no explanation and threads querying closures deleted with a ‘moderators must not be questioned’ warning. From my personal perspective I know how this will end and I won’t be playing this game any more I can assure you.
Hi Patu, my post asking why the original ‘right click targeting’ thread was closed has been infracted and deleted because moderator actions should not be questioned!
I’ve never heard of an agreement with a 3rd party developer where they make updates for free. I’m sure they would argue that the right click target was not an error and charge up the wazoo to fix it. Same with first person view “that was not in the spec”.
My theory is they outsourced the game engine. They have no one on staff that can fix the problem. Same reason the camera spazes out when you are near a wall, and there is no first person view.
If this was true it may not be an issue depending on the support contract that exists between ArenaNet and the 3rd party developer. Not having someone in the company that can maintain their product would be commercial suicide If it were also the case that no support contract existed!
As I stated it would all depend on the terms of the support contract and the definition of what constitutes an update vs a fix. ‘Not in the spec’ vs ‘Not working as required’ usually proves to be a very subjective argument. All of this is completely speculative anyway. What’s needed is for ArenaNet to get their fingers out of their kittens and actually tell us what the hell is going on here.
On preview I have to say that getting their ‘fingers out of their kittens’ probably reads worse than what I actually said. Someone call the RSPCA!!

Is the lack of meaningful response from the game developers in this thread and on this issue because they are genuinely not yet aware of it?
Or…
Is the lack of response down to a lack of respect towards paid/paying customers who have legitimate concerns about the product they paid for and are looking for some answers?
Forget right-click targeting, first let me deselect my target.
What exactly are you talking about here?
This thread is about the issues caused by the fact that you can target/start auto-attack/activate with the right mouse button (when you don’t actually want to) while you are panning the camera to look round. With this in mind we definitely do not want to forget right-click targeting.
Correct me if I am wrong, but this was not always a problem – meaning it is a feature that was recently added (within the past few months).
I’m correcting you for the obvious reason that his thread is over 5 months old.
7663 views and only 240 replies and many of the posters in this thread have posted several times (like me!).
Guys, if you read this thread and you know that your game experience or performance is being impacted by this issue (basically anyone who uses the mouse to move and right mouse to pan the camera) then add your voice to the chorus of complaints by posting here. As Choval said earlier, if we make enough noise we may eventually get heard.
And once more to ArenaNet, if you are aware of this issue and have plans to do something about it then a little bit of feedback would just be common courtesy after all this time (5 months +) don’t you think?
(edited by RoShamBo.2618)
Looks like the game is going free-to-play soon, with some paid-for DLC to keep us happy.
Citation Needed? Where did you read this?
Hasn’t it always been ‘free to play’ once you’ve bought the game?
As an aside, I’ve received warnings from the mods for bumping 10 other threads regarding this right mouse button issue. I suppose the upside is that we can at least rest assured that someone from ANet is reading these forums even if it’s no guarantee that the details get passed on to someone who can do something about it.
Tweeted to Guild Wars again, I’m getting very involved in this fix now
I don’t do any form of ‘social networking’ online.
Anyhoo, let’s hope the response to ‘a tweet’ is not ‘a twaat’!
(had to double up the ‘a’ there due to that kitten kitten thing)
We could call it “Buffness”

Hi Chovel,
Generally speaking I’d agree with your ‘squeaky wheel’ analogy but after 5 months of bumping this thread, posting in other threads about the same issue and linking back to this one and even posting in unrelated threads (e.g. dueling) to suggest that more fundamental issues (this issue) should be the priority for ANet, I am beginning to lose all hope of a fix!
There are a few other guys who have posted repeatedly about this issue too (Patu, Mithran etc. You know who you are!) and yet 5 months + have gone by. In another couple of weeks it will be half a year that this massive problem has been ignored by the devs!!
(edited by RoShamBo.2618)
rolling the dice for a response today
I wouldn’t hold your breath while waiting/hoping for a response……
This issue is close to being a game breaker and we haven’t had a response worth d1ck in over 5 months!
Is this customer service to be proud of?

Gaile, if you are following this thread at all can you please give us some indication as to whether or not this issue is at least understood to be problematic by the game developers?
This is a serious problem for many, many players and not just those who are vocal about it on the forums. It’s been months now and we have not heard a single thing from the developer’s perspective despite over 200 posts on this thread alone (there are several other threads regarding this same issue).
As far as we know right now, this may not even be considered as an issue at all by the developers. Please can you give us something a bit more substantial than your initial 3 month old post?

Right click targeting. Gamebreaking issue. Absolutely. No.1.
As stated above by Patu this is far and away the worst ‘feature’ of the game (for me) and the closest to being a game breaker.
can’t turn that of?
you mean that you want to be able to disable it from even acquiring the target when right clicking on it right?.thats a fair option to want.
I don’t need the right mouse button which controls the camera to also have the same function as the left button for acquiring a target/activating an object. What I then have is a situation where my target is shifted unintentionally when I pan the camera if I happen to pan over an ‘active’ object. This active object can be another mob, a resource node or whatever.
It’s a design disaster.

3 months gone by since this post. A quarter of a year. Is there really nothing further you can tell us about this?
agree, i use “right drag” all the time during the battle too.
so this option might be very useful for me.and furthermore…
i hope also disable to pop-up party context menu with the option
but this is morelike.. due to hard to find my mouse cursor quickly..
so i hope i can change cursor icon to more remarkable and distiguishable from background.. and not disappear during the drag
Yup, mouse cursor disappearing during camera operation was another masterstroke from ArenaNet. It’s a far better idea than those other games that just leave the cusor visible and in place while you rotate the camera.
Yours truly,
Sarcastic Dave
Great, another suggestion to add raids and mounts, how original, like we haven’t heard that a thousand times already, you people should just go back to playing wow if you really insist on having that.

The suggestion to go back to WoW if it has the features you want in a game is a fair point. Why is it you think that turning this game into something more like WoW will make it better for you? You are actually coming across a bit like a spoiled child who doesn’t want this WoW but wants that WoW.
Sod dueling and just make the basics of the game WORK PROPERLY F F S! And you could start with sorting out the stupid game breaking right mouse button funtionality as per the thread linked below:

Thank you for contributing to this thread by posting about a completely irrelevant topic. >.<
Sorry, but I completely disagree with you. I think it’s far more important for ArenaNet to get the basics of the game working properly before they expend resource adding ‘bells and whistles’. This is, of course, my personal view on the matter but I know for a fact that it’s a view shared by a very large number of the player base in this game. As for relevance to adding dueling to the game, how about this:
You can’t have a meaningful duel while you are unable to consistently control your character properly. So why add dueling in at all?

What I want to see in the near future is ArenaNet paying some serious attention to the thread I’ve linked below.
This bug or issue needs fixing as a priority. There was an ‘official’ reponse on this thread around 3 months ago and there’s been no further feedback since. Please, can one of you acknowledge that you understand that this is a serious problem and how it’s affecting basic gameplay.
We who have responded on the linked thread need to know that you know that we are suffering and that you ARE going to put our suffering to an end (sooner rather than later)!!!
Calling out to anyone from ArenaNet! Please pay serious attention to the thread I’ve linked below.

Keeping this alive. This should be always on top, or at least in first page.
I completely agree. It needs to be kept in the devs’ faces until they offer up some sort of acknowledgement of the issue. Don’t they play their own game? Are they all keyboard turners? I just can’t understand why this is not being understood as a major issue.
Hi Aeranima!
I’m aware of the feedback from Gaile but that’s more a case of us being fobbed off as is proved by the lack of any meaningful follow up since.
This issue affects my play in all aspects of the game so badly (high mobility dual pistol thief) that I have logged in once for about 15 mins in the last 2.5 months.
The fact that there has been no serious feedback or comment on the issue from the developers is so discouraging that I am seriously considering kicking this poop into touch and having an MMO detox until Defiance pops up in April.
This could be such a good game if some of the ‘core’ gameplay issues (and this issue is definitely one of those) could be fixed. As I mentioned earlier some meaningful feedback acknowledging that the issue is understood by the devs would be nice and at least offer some hope for a future fix.

The system used in WoW is better.
Quest completion and daily reset should be treated as separate events. The daily reset should only affect a player if he has 100% completion. At the point of completion your daily is done and you cannot start on it again until the next daily reset. This way if you get to 90% completion and the daily reset time is reached, it ticks over and you only have 10% left to complete. Once you complete that final 10% your quest is done, you get the rewards but you can’t start on the next daily until after the next reset time.
Pretty much as stated in the OP.
I’ve been whinging about this for months now. There is a large thread in the Suggestions forum with well over 5K views and almost 160 replies that relates to this exact issue:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/An-option-to-disable-right-click-targeting/first
This thread is over 5 months old and the ArenaNet response stating that they are aware of the issue is close to 3 months old now. No further response. Zip. Nada…
As someone states in the thread I’ve linked this issue is pretty much a game breaker and the solution could be as simple as moving code from the ‘on_mousedown’ event to the ‘on_click’ event.
I think it’s well past time that the right mouse button targeting/activation debacle was acknowledged by the dev team and some sort of schedule for a fix be given here in the forums for us long suffering players.
See the thread linked below for full details of what I’m getting at. Chances are that if you are experiencing weird targeting behaviour e.g. losing your target and targeting allies, harvesting a node in the middle of a fight, shooting something you did not want to whilst simply running from A to B and you don’t know what the cause is then this thread will explain it for you.
) coming so we have plenty to give them each day.
