Lol, yeah true any warrior build can, but the thief can too, and would like some opinions on how to stay alive in PVE a bit better, as my glass cannon warrior seems to stay up a lot better in every encounter than my thief!

I’m now using 25/30/15/0/0 but im not sure if i should use the 15 in acrobatics instead :/
I’ve tried both, the only thing i miss about having 15 in acrobatics is having the extra dodges.
I was hoping someone who is experienced in the thief prof could possibly suggest something different than the normal build everyone seems to run around here. But i just got you instead, trolling me ah well.

Is going all out on damage and traiting no defence/utility really necessary?
On forums all i see is 25/30/x/x/x viable. but what about 0/30/25/15/0?
i really like that build, it makes pugs a lot easier to deal with, it’s also a lot more fun to use. Does it make me a bad thief wanting to use a different build?
In game thiefs also give me a lot different opinions on builds than the ones on the forums.

yes it was, the one where you have to kill three of them.
i do use that weapon set but the burning condition comes back instantly, you dont even get 1 second of it staying off of you.

i use d/d and s/p. I can sometimes kill him in my down state if im using the withdraw healing. But i just know i shouldnt be struggling that much, if i have so much more of an easier time on my other proffs.

I love my thief in most areas of pve, i dunno if im doing something wrong though, or i just need to be fully exotic :/

I’m currently wearing mostly rare quality armour at the moment, and i find my self struggling to survive “sometimes”

My build is 25/30/0/15/0 – I really like it, nice damage and some survivability with the extra dodges, but would it be better if i spec the 15 into shadow arts trait line? Cloaked in shadows seems nice.

It’s just that i seem to struggle killing veteran flame legion effigy in fireheart rise. yes i do dodge, his attacks are very easy to avoid it’s just his passive burning that always gets me down. it’s so annoying as even my warrior in full zerker can take him down and end up with nearly full health!

thats the main reason im here as i struggle on mobs with fire on my thief

any help and tips is much appreciated!

Warrior GS build

I was told 30/0/0/10/30 is the way to go in PVE, but was wondering if I’m still able to use the GS as my primary weapon or will it have to be axe/mace?
and how would i play with this set up?
Would i open with axe/mace or GS in every encounter or does it not matter as long as i swap weapons frequantly?

I would also love a good PVP/WVW build if anyone can post me a link to a couple!

I’m a newly dinged 80 warrior and would love to have some info on where would be the best place to start gearing up, as im really confused.
Any tips & info would be much appreciated

Thanks!

Well how did you do it with your warrior? did you kite? or did you face tank? which champion was this? etc etc

Can’t tell you how to do it if the details are missed out. Hell at lvl 31 it might have been best to put 30 into valor and then you can kill anything.

Jesus christ KensaiZen, did you not even read my first post? Those actual specific details you’re asking for are there at the start of the thread. Stating what champion it was and in which location. Saying how i confronted them with my guardian compared to my warrior etc..

I’m not gonna repeat my self again. Just go read it if you wanna help at all.

P.s You cant put 30 points into Valor if you’re only level 31…

@KensaiZen
I never said i couldn’t solo any champions, only that specific one which my warrior could do easily, also my Guardian was only level 31 when i posted this, and he’s now 40. Since then i have solo’d a few champions with him.

The main point of this thread is to show my disapointment as i thought Guardians were meant to be better than warriors at soloing champions. But over all leveling him has been the easiest out of all my characters killing most things fast and easy.

I just wanted to know if there was a way to kill that specific boss at level 31 as a guard seeing as i could do it on my warrior.

@Asmodal
Thanks for the post I like the build but i think ima stick with 0/5/30/30/5 when i hit 80!
Also i do know Guardian is no Warrior, what im getting at is everyone told me Guards are the best class at sloing, and i just wondered if i was doing something wrong? But i guess deciding which one is best for soloing at low levels is a bad idea as things are unbalanced at low levels maybe? :P

Help me with a build, please.

Cheers Xylith, you’ve been a great help.
Now, rather than creating a new thread i just wanted to post a possible new build, and wondering if its viable at all

0/30/30/5/5

As you have enough defence with the valour traits and plenty of damage too.

maybe i shouldnt worry too much as im not lvl 80 yet. i tried it in mists and it seemed pretty strong but if anyone else wants to try it out for me please do and let me know if its any good.

This is more of a pvp/wvw build, but would like to know how it plays in PVE too :P

I havnt done any high level dungeons yet….

Thanks for the replies guys, but if they truely are lacking that badly in hp, then how on earth are they classed as one of the best solo proffs?
I understand that they have a kitten load of defensive abilities to keep them up, but surely not enough to make up for the low hp?

does the guardian at least over take the warrior in soloing all pve content when you hit 80?

im not bothered about asking what their like in pvp… as its all to do with skill and different builds but they seem amazing so far in pvp from youtube vids i’ve seen and the odd bit of pvp i’ve done so far.

Good reply and i understand that, but my point is that i managed to solo them on my warrior at the same level
I’m leveling a Guardian cause i love to solo things and heard Guardian is the best at that.
So I’m just hoping it’ll at least turn out better than the warrior at 80…. as i understand things are different at lower levels.
Anyways, thanks for the reply

I just turned level 31 and in the field of ruins there’s those champion bees in the warriors crown camp, and i cant kill them i use a mix of blinds, i weapon swap a lot too, i keep my heals going along with defensive CD’s…. What am i doing wrong?

The thing is, i solo’d these on my warrior at about the same level, if i started to take too much damage i’d roll away and get my rifle out and kill them from range.

I heard guardian’s are much better at soloing champions? but so far im beginning to doubt that…

please help :/

Thats kinda funny, i logged back on just to ask if it would be best for me to take some points out of honor and put it in raidiance for extra crit.
0/15/30/20/5 sounds good. Is there really a noticeable survivability loss going to the build you just posted?

Thanks for all the infomation, it’s really helped a lot.
What you just said is basically the whole reason why i prefer Guardian’s in this game compared to Warriors. It’s only right Warriors can do more damage, but as long as we can still do “good” damage I’m happy to continue leveling my Guardian up.

I’m also happy to see that so far i can actually be 100% melee at all times with the Guardian, I hope it stays that way? Or at least most of the time, as with my Warrior I’d have to whip out my rifle quite often in some situations which disapointed me.

Anyways, thanks for the help. I’m off to continue leveling my Guardian!!

Thanks, I’ll give that build a go.
The weird thing is though I’ve heard plenty of times that guardian’s damage is good, just not as good as warrior’s… which idc for as warriors tend to bore me.
But if you say Guardian’s damage is bad and every other profession outperforms them. Then it kinda puts me off as i rolled Guardian to damage things while putting out a ton of support.

Nah I enjoy Guardian, i have a level 50 warrior and 80 thief, thief was too spammy for my liking which made it get really annoying to play. But i had good survivability which i liked, with all their escapes/evasions. stealth was too good

My warrior was fun to play at the start but just got boring after a while, not a fan of their toolkit.

But guardian’s are my thing for sure as i am having a blast, I dont mind not beeing the biggest damage dealer, but so far while leveling him up the damage seems fine if not higher than at least the thief to start off with, but thats probably cause i played a fully defensive p/d thief.

I just love all of the guardian’s abilities so i just wanna meet the middle ground of being good with damage enough to back up all the other DPSers, and setting up my traits to make the most use out of my shouts as i really do enjoy using them.

So your first build would be my best choice? Or should i tweak it for a lil more damage?

Sorry to be a pain, just wanna get the most out of my guardian. I really appreciate all the help.

Thanks Xylith, But i think guardians have decent damage just not as much burst as other classes I love the GS.

But for a guardian will that spec you just gave me have some good damage in it as well as the survivability for dungeons?

Sorry, forgot to add that, but thats cause i wanna do everything. I realize i will have to switch skills here and there if i wanna do pvp or wvw other than dungeons and world events.

But i just want a good build that will allow me to use shouts effectively and have decent damage aswell as survivability.

as i want that kinda play style in all aspects of the game

I’ve been having a blast playing my new guardian, he’s only 24. But i wanna know what build would be best for me, as i will get to level 80 fast.

I’m really into the shout abilities

I also like to do plenty of damage, but be able to hold my own so i can do a little bit of soloing too.

I was thinking of… 0/10/30/30/0

Will that build be okay for what i need? It seems to be very defensive, but should do plenty of damage too?

I’ve only played my thief to 80 and had a break from the game so im very unsure what to go with even with all the suggestions in this forum.

But basically i wanna be able to DPS!!

Use shouts effectively, and be able to survive!

Please help, thanks in advance.

P/D build for pve & pvp

Thanks to your help Tulisin, I came up with something like this…

http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mckMzc9cMnFvMMnFvM9MxGGoVqMacV

I’m still using Hide in Shadows as it suits my gameplay a bit more than any of the other choices, and I love the quick burst of heal + stealth it provides on a decent cool down.
I know it will be great in all kinds of PVP for me. But I’m worried about PVE… Will this spec provide enough damage in dungeons?
i have my traits set up so i can constantly keep might up which is a nice damage buff.
I dunno if its worth specing into crit instead of one of the defensive trait lines, as you can get +5% extra pistol damage! Which would obviously work well with my weapon set, It’s just that i would have to lose alot of survivability, and thats not good if I fail to dodge some of the cheap boss attacks. D:

I’m just looking for a spec thats viable in both pve/dungeons/wvw as i dont wanna have to respec everytime i decide to do something different. I just hope this is it as i enjoy it.

Hey guys, sorry to ‘hijack’ this post, but I was wondering something about P/D.

I can’t even begin to understand how to use this set of weapon effectively. Going stealth seems to be the way to go (cond damage is my thing too), but the over-reliance on the first attack to stack bleeds is bothering me.
How do you manage to effectively use cloak and dagger to stealth often enough to stack bleeds from the first attack ?

Well, in PVP use dancing dagger to snare any mellee character, and spam your #1 ability to stack bleeds while kiting away. If he gets close then use your cloak and dagger.
But if you can safely run up to him/her and use cloak and dagger then that will be a good start for you :) you basically just spam #1 and #5. just be aware of your surroundings and what your target is doing. Use your utility as needed. you can use any heal you want but i reallyy do prefer the burst heal + stealth of “Hide in Shadows”

If you’re up against a range character just keep running towards them while spamming your #1 ability, while dodging most of the damage to close the distance and use C+D so you can use your awesome pistol sneak attack :) Plus heal when needed.
I’m sorry if im not too detailed I’m kinda busy! But thats basically it. If you wanna see some awesome videos to get more tactics watch “Wild Bill’s” videos on youtube :)

In pve its pretty much the same. Use your dancing dagger to control multiple mobs. (A shortbow is easier and can be better in most situations involving multiple mobs) Also having the trait which Blinds foes as you stealth is a life saver in both pve and pvp. so it might be worth picking that up from the Shadow Arts trait line. its all about placement in pve and make plenty use of your dodge :P

I hope I helped even in the smallest way with this rushed, messy reply.
I probably missed quite a bit out, but if it’s just PVP you’re worried about just youtube wild bill. he plays this spec “near” perfect :)

P/D build for pve & pvp

I’m pretty new with the thief, but i know how to use P/D weapon set pretty well.
Though i am a lil confused on what would be the right traits for me.
I’d like my spec to be viable in both pve and pvp and i am currently using something similar to this…

http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mckMzc0z0MMxvMMMxvMG0xG0mRosqcR8070M7kiO

It’s going very well so far, but I’m feeling it could be better.
This is where i need opinions from the thief community. click the link below and compare it to my current one!

http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mckMzc0z0MrFvMMrFvMV0pGGoscRVk

It loses a bit of survivability, but has ALOT more condition damage.
I still have 5 points in deadly arts as i dont want my conditions dropping off my targets too quickly, but im not entirely sure if its worth it.

Seeing as pistols main damage comes from conditions, how can I go wrong specing into trickery?

My only concern is not having enough points in deadly arts for the longer condition duration. I dont fancy losing anymore survivability as i need it in both PVP and PVE, ‘cause we’re too swquishy without it!

Any help would be much appreciated. ^^
