I actually ended up building this: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQRBJddG2InTLczjAETcAA94qq2SVwu0jwYbNA-jAyAocBa6ToJCBKnXEN2yWR0YV6ER16HMPeR0qBA-e
I’d be swaping between signet of rage and battle standard. Prolly signet of rage when alone and battle standard when in groups.
Pretty happy with that build. Plenty of toughness and vitality
EDIT: When swapping elite I would be swapping my dicipline major aswell. Reduction to signets would pointless if running battle standard instead of signet of rage. Cool thing about signet reduction would be the total up time of it, all most no CD.
Same with whatever banner I feel like running (mostly defense banner) it’s besically all the time up and gives regen to everyone to have steady HP regen for me and my group. Not to mention my own passive from Defense trait tree (minor: Adrenal Health) which buffs my own survival even more.
I’m pretty sure I will enjoy this build when I hit 80 (I’m lvl 50 at the moment with my warrior). A new playstyle which is very welcome.

Hey there. After I got my Guardian (Berserk / Knight) and my Thief (Valkyrie / Berserk) all geared up I created a warrior. First I was thinking maybe make him full berserk geared once I get to lvl 80. But my thief and guardian are doing so much damage all ready so I didn’t want to have another ‘’glass cannon’’. So I want to make my warrior very tanky like.
This first link was a build that I wanted to be tanky dps like and I was concerned that maybe having too low crit chance would be a pain so I worked out this kind of a mess:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQNApeUjcOtwNPCQ4wBA0jrqaLVB8SPCDt0A-jQyAYMBRCTgoPg58ioxW4KiGr2BTvSEV7TIiq9CYA-e
Was also thinking the ‘’you shall not pass’’ geared warrior:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQNApeUjcOtwNPCQ4wBA0jrqaLVB8SPCDt0A-jQyAYMBR6DIVIQ58ioxW2KiGrSnIqW/g5Bw84ER1A-e
I just want to build some kind of pure Tank or Support like warrior. I have 2 damage dealer characters, my 3rd character should be doing something else totally to keep the game fresh for me.
Would be doing mostly PvE and maybe some random world vs world stuff within big groups of course.
Thank you for reading this.
full zerker guard is still a face roll in pugs, if you are having issues then it is probably your ineptitude of mechanical understanding not the pugs
I also use full zerker and I can certainly tell the difference between a good and a bad pug and how it influences me as a guardian. Blaming it fully on the ineptitude of mechanical understanding, or whatever fancy words you want to use, is not what I’m personally experiencing. If encounters take twice as long you’ll start running out of utilities. Anyone will have issues at that point, especially those using glass cannon builds.
Also OP mentioned he is new to the game. Anyone recommending full zerker for him is not able to relate how difficult content can be for new players. I think using knight gear with zerker trinkets would be the best starting point. Zerker gear with soldier trinkets works, only you’ll miss out on a lot of precision and critical damage.
This is something I’ve noticed very quickly. If I notice that we as a group are doing lower damage than usual, it effects me. Like you said after pretty much every possible defensive abilities are on CD and I still run with aggro…things start to go bad.
But as a player I’ve learned alot. I don’t have the luxury anymore take random hits. I have to pay attention and I’m getting the hang of it. I’ve also had alot of luck with meeting other very skillful players who have been teaching me. And I always passivley observe better players and figure out how they play.
I now have all ready rare berserk trinkets, slowly swaping them to exotic. After that I’m pretty much where I want to be. After that it’s just practise, practise, practise. I’m alot confident with my guardian now aswell. You guys have really helped me out big time. I enjoy my guardian alot more.
I’m right now only abit worried of my overall health. I feel very fragile I guess I guess I’m still too used to my soldiers gear….not to mention I used full cleric gear before this.
So I guess the best defense is the best offense ? I still have just barley 15K health because of my soldiers trinkets (that I’m swapping to berserk when I get the trinkets).
So I guess my health will drop alot after that. There wont be much room to take hits in dungeons and such.
So am I just too used to high HP pool. What is an avarage HP pool for DPS guardians ?
Thanks again for you’re replies Cat Has Ducks, you have really helped me out and I’m enjoying my guardian more than I ever have.
His link doesn’t include upgrades of any kind. Runes, sigils, food, etc.
What is your point? I added scholar runes and I put what he suggested to get the numbers I quoted. He wanted to know how bad his damage will be effected, and I think I answered that quite well. He actually wants advice on a good build. So I’m helping him out.
@OP
And to your question about the virtues. Don’t go deeper that 25. That’s the sweet spot. You are better off with Right hand strength or Superior Aria.
Yeah I went with the superior aria. This build is actually pretty darn good. The focus is so much better than the shield
I all ready swaped my armor to knight (exotic) and found a laurel vendor were I bought a ascended berserk trinket to compensate a little for my rare soldier trinkets.
All I need to do now is to get exotic berserk sword. Then my armor and weapons are good to go. After that comes the trinkets and the runes for the armor.
Any suggestions what sigils should I throw to my weapons ? I was thinking of +5 damage for greatsword and sword….haven’t yet figured what to put on focus.
There are the runes for the armor in the link.
33% crit damage and 35% crit chance is painfully low for PVE. The usual recommended route for people to learn is Knight armor with zerker trinkets. Something like this. I also moved traits around with 10 unspent, so you can see the basis of a dps build. The last 10 is dependent on what you need. I’d recommend for starting out to go 10 into honor, for vigor and shout reduction. Oh and focus is superior to shield. Check out lower linked guide for more details.
Read this guide for more in depth look:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Guide-DPS-Guardian-for-PVE/first
Okay. That looks good and true, having low crit dmg and chance would be annoying.
EDIT: Would it be good idea to put the last 5 points to virtues and get the permeating wrath ? Virtue of justices passive would cause AoE flames each time it goes off.
2nd EDIT: No that would be horrible, I want activate virtue of justice most of the time for might !

Hi there. Guardian is my first character and I’m still a noob, but after I got full rare setup and have now few exotic armor pieces and weapons I’d like to ask about this build and gear I’m planning to go with. Note that I focus only on PvE with this build, I’m not that much interested in PvP.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUAQNAR8elYgiCXFSLEf4ESWhC06BAdQ+D2DMC+6IA-jQxAYLAMWkTeFRjVvgpLJiqBA-e
So most of my weapons and armor is berserk. So the ultimate question is: Should I have soldiers trinkets ? Is the vitality and toughness (power too) I get from them enough to make some kind of difference in terms of damage mitigation and having a larger HP pool, or would it be better to swap all trinkets to berserk and become some short of a glass cannon ?
So my plan is to get exotic berserk armor and weapons, and trinkets would be soldiers. I’m unsure about the trinkets though :/
Any input of you people would be much appreciated.
Thank you alot of the detailed information you have been writing Balekai ! I think I know how to trait and gear up my necromancer now when I hit lvl 80.
Thanks for the replies so far. I will probably switch the mace & shield and try hammer and see how that one goes.
I’m not sure does my party members even notice how much conditions I’m cleaning for them Some people do mistakes and take a dive at those condition AoE’s some enemies are putting up on ascalonian catacombs. Poison, chill, vurnability, weakness, criple and whatnot. ‘’Gimme you’re conditions, nomnomnomnom’’.
Hi there, I’m a new player and Guardian is my first character, right now lvl 62. I recentley put 30 points on Honor and 21 points to virtues.
Build link: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUAQNApeWlYgyDXFSLEfoESmCRCBxegRZUHB
Honor major: Reduce shout CD, reduce 2H weapon CD & shouts remove conditions.
Virtues major: Reduce concentration CD and improve their duration & Absolute Resolution (activating virtue of resolve removes 3 conditions from nearby allies).
Heal: Signet of resolve (every 10 sec remove condition)
Utilities: Sanctuary, Stand your ground & Hold the Line
Elite: Renewed Focus
Weapon sets: Mace & Shield & Staff.
I like playing dungeons
I use staff #4 to buff party for might (and at the end of the channel gives healing too). Use orb of light to detonate for area healing if needed, but mainly stick to mace & shield and only swap back to staff if we run out of might or need some healing.
Even though I’m new in GW2, situational awerness isn’t a problem, played too much SWTOR you see So not only do I focus on the fight, I monitor allies health and do they have conditions on them and react on that.
Mace & Shield I keep the heal AoE symbol from mace on the ground all the time and block attacks from enemies, use shield #4 to buff allies for protection and use shield #5 when our group needs desperatley some space or take bunch of projectiles. My shouts are pretty much all the time on cooldown.
So the reason why I started to question this build was on Ascalonian catacombs and at the boss fight (2 ghosts) we got wiped on the first try. It was a mess, when I revived one party member, other one got down. Eventually they started to get down at the same time so they started to die and when I finally got downed to last stand the last party member didn’t stand a chance.
So I think I was doing strong, I was doing everything I could do, damage the boss, heal allies, remove conditions from allies, keep the 2 bosses appart, reviving party members, buffing party members via shouts and staff. But after the 1st wipe the 2 other players said ‘’we need a tank’‘. At that point I got REALLY confused. GW2 does not have roles like tank, heal or dps….every profession is doing more or less all of those things, right ? And I think my build is pretty tanky, after all I was the one who was staying alive the longest while actually trying to help the party to survive….I don’t even want to mention our groups thiefs performance. He was also the one who suggested me to be a ’’tank’’ and getting rid of the staff.
So they told me to ‘’get rid of the staff kitten’‘. So I need now here on the forums some insight for this. Like I said I’m a noob and don’t know much about the game. Should I be running with hammer & greatsword or what ?
Signed by Guardian player willing to adapt and improve.
When I get sound issues the screen goes black and usually the game also freezes…only in GW2
Thanks for the replies. My laptop is still about 1 week in repairs so in that time I try to gather as much information about Thief.
I was thinking of going with Sword and Dagger as primary weaponset & for backup dual pistols or shortbow. That way I could damage my opponent from range before closing in on melee range. Is there any good advice you people can give ? Is there any weapons or weaponsets I should avoid using or is everything usable ? Or should I have double daggers as second weaponset ?
Hi everyone. I bought this game sometime ago and due to some hardware issues I haven’t been able to play the game yet. But during this downtime I have read the profession forums etc and I think I want to go with Thief as my first character.
For my understanding Thief profession requires abit more skills to play with and that’s fine by me. But I can’t but to notice the topics about other long time Thief players who are not happy with the updates that changes / changed Thief. So what’s the real verdict ? Is Thief still a strong profession in PvE and PvP ? I want a profession that can carry himself and not feel weak or otherwise be a burden to groups I play with. I was also thinking of starting with Guardian, but I’m more of a ’’rogue’’ styled player. Warrior is too mainstream.
So is it a bad idea to start as a Thief ?
I’ve installed once drivers without nvidia expirience, didn’t make a difference.
If you do install Geforce experience you may want to go into your Windows Services and disable the Nvidia Streaming service for the shield device, unless of course you have a shield device. I don’t know why that is enabled every time they do an update…
And this is done how ? Never heard about this..
Okay, problem is in the GPU, but it is a software related issue.
My laptop’s GPU actually broke (7 months old laptop LoL) 2 weeks ago and it came couple of days ago from the guarantee repair shop (dunno the correct term in english). They said they tested that it works and I took their word for it. Well turns out it doesn’t work as it should so checked with them again. They are 100% sure hardware wise laptop is cool.
However after talking with MSI tech support + I did every possible thing a user can do, installing drivers from scratch and even did a full reset for my laptop to the factory settings and did again clean driver install etc and still the GPU isn’t working as intended.
So conclusion is that GPU software wise isn’t working as intended.
So I do believe that GW2 should by all means run smooth with my laptop should the GPU software work as it should. Doubt they can restore this laptop to functional because I did everything to fix this, even the MSI tec support has nothing for me and if the hardware is fine….
Could end up so they have to just ship me a new laptop. Either that or they manage to make this piece of….mud to work.
So for other NVIDIA users, it might be that the problems (FPS / black screens) happends only because the software simply doesn’t work as intended. However all my GPU problems are more or less present in other games, not just GW2.
Should you have these problems with other games out of no where I suggest do a clean driver install, NVIDIA GeForce Expirience has the option of using ‘’do a clean install’‘, this way you minimize chance of corruption. And corrupted drivers are a pain because there is a chance it will not go away. Aka updating ’’driver 1’’ to ’’2’’ get’s corrupted, and when u get ‘’driver 3 update’’ the corruption is still there and causes X amount of problems in the long run.
Temps are normal and power isn’t the problem.
I think I know what the problem is. It’s on the GPU. Need to run some tests.
And now I confirm that FPS issues are still here. Sometimes drop to 1 and causes the game to freeze or crash.
So I downloaded the game and started playing the game. Problems started pretty much soon as I was done creating a character.
First I had FPS issues….or more like odd freezes alot, but I read couple of sticky threads and I got rid of most of the freezes. However odd lags happens from time to time and just now I had something new: the game dropped the FPS a little and the sounds started to sound ’’robotic’’, I don’t know how else can I describe it. Anyway shortly after the sound went wierd and the FPS did a drop the game crashed.
I also get blackscreens alot. I did read the sticky threads related to the performance (fps and blackscreen), but I still got problems.
I have the latest NVIDIA drivers.
What are the next steps to make this game playable ? Not too happy at the moment :/
Incase my laptops specs are relevant:
Model: MSI GT70
CPU: Intel I7-3630QM
VGA: Nvidia GeForce GTX675M (2GB GDDR5)
RAM: DDR3 12GB (4GB*3)

I just bought the game and I’m downloading it as we speak. So I know nothing about the game really
I was thinking of going with Ranger with longbow. Though I hear it’s not so good weapon for them ?!
Okay. Thanks for the reply.
Hey there. I just bought the game and I’am downloading it. But when I had downloaded the game to about 6-8% I had to close the game client because I had to do some driver updates.
So now I have to start from 0% again. This will turn out to be very problematic. I download with a steady 1.22 MB/sec but it will take obviously sometime before the download is complete. So I cannot download the game to a certain amount, and shutdown my laptop and continue the download on another time. Leaving the laptop running is one thing, but I know that my laptop will turn itself off after a certain amount of time, regardless if it’s downloading anything.
So will the game client always forget what it has downloaded if the game client is closed before it has reached 100% ? I think for a game of this size should remember what it has downloaded even if closing the client.
