I’ve come to realize that this games’s community is the most entitled and loud community I’ve ever seen.

Sure ArenaNet is handling this event much like Halloween’s, they keep the RNG in some places, but at least they are moving forward, you can get 2 toys for free by playing a dungeon each day, you can get all sorts of stuff for free apart from these toys.

They built a freaking “guitar hero”-like mini game, I’ve never seen any MMO give so much content for free. The new jumping puzzle is doable after the 2nd or 3rd attempt. The snow ball PvP is just pure awesome.

If you don’t like the offerings in the store simply don’t buy them, that’s how you vote, that’s how you are heard the best, stop coming to the forums and being so loud please, you are hurting the community, if you spent 75 bucks on gems and then find out that your money was poorly spent maybe you should have spent a little less and try out the RNG first, it’s gambling and the worst you can do is going all in at the start, wait a couple of hours or days, hear the people in local chat talking about how good/bad a box or item is.

Coming to the forums to flame on free content is plain stupid, ArenaNet knows that forum dwellers are a minority, all you are doing is reducing the credibility of the forum users as a whole, and like I said, the best way to “complain” about store items is simply not to buy them.

So to ArenaNet, thanks for Wintersday, it’s a HUGE event, I love how everything was decorated, I know this must take a lot of time to plan, implement and test, and you do it on a F2P game hoping people will buy some stuff and keep supporting the game and I appreciate how everything is done, if I had just a little suggestion is to simply drop the RNG, sell the people the items they want (they are cosmetic anyway) and just sell them at a price at which you feel comfortable, more people will get into it because it is RNG free, you get more store customers, we get more items, everyone is happy, win-win situation.

Nice response, thanks for adding to the thread.
I have a couple of questions though, if the server trusts what’s going on the client side, why do the most successful subscription based MMOs do not have this kind of game breaking exploits and hacks?

I’m a software engineer and I always try to set a ceiling and floor on stuff, for instance, if you have a rule that the most speed movement that can happen in the game is idk let’s say 15% then have your code so that even if they try to tamper with it, people with hacks will only get perma-speed but not above your ceiling.

This holds true with teleports and other buffs (infinite health, magic find, etc), I know the hacks with enough talent and time will come up with stuff that comes close to your preset boundaries, but at least they won’t go over them, the client should be able to tell that you can’t teleport long distances unless there is a waypoint there, and again, someone might come up with something to teleport to waypoints or stuff like that, but at least you are reducing the amount of possible hacks.

My main concern is the lack of transparency with ArenaNet, they show us shinnies and talk about the upgrades and stuff, they are trying too hard to attract new players but the most loyal players are already playing and have been following the game for 5 years, those of us are the ones that will probably still be here once the waters settle or another big MMO comes out. And to most of us playing the game right now the most important part is getting the bugs ironed out and stopping the hacks, sure botters will always exist but have them inside your boundaries, then their damage done is way less.

Hack + bot + exploit + bugs = worst case scenario.

It might be, I mean the graphics part is usually the offender, but for a company this big it is really suspicious that they haven’t been able to “optimize” the way the graphics are drawing CPU, I think a big chunk of that CPU usage is indeed helping the servers process less data.

@GADefence
I’m with you a 100%, but if you remember, GW1 was not exactly an MMO, their servers didn’t have the load that GW2 has, this very ambitious huge MMO is F2P, and they have to cut costs to be able to maintain that, either by having a small team (they always ask us to report botters, it seems we are the outsourcing they needed) and also by having less infrastructure to support the game, again, by making the clients process as much as they can usually before being vulnerable to hacks and modifications… it seems they went a bit too far on client processing.

I would gladly pay a subscription if it would help ArenaNet have a bigger team of people, better infrastructure and tools and erase the need to have the best stuff sit behind a cash store.

Suggestion: Create an optional subscription model, organize sales (50%+ and up) for subscritors and freebies every month, much alike Sony Play Station Network Plus.

Cultural T3 weapons. Found something interesting....

So I’ve looked into these t3 cultural weapons a little, mainly because I was very interested in the Wolfborn Greatsword. Honestly, I didn’t feel like it would be worth dropping all the Karma for a rare, then having to transmute it to and exotic, blah blah blah. Anyways, heres something I noticed, and I’m not sure if this is intentional or not. If it is, that’s fine, some people might think its unfair but, oh well. The Charr t3 weapons can all be found by heart vendors in Fireheart rise – I’ve found every single t3 weapon there – for almost nothing, they cost less than 1000 karma. So I did a little investigating, and so far in my search I can’t find any other heart vendors in the game that sell same skin t3 weapons besides the Charr ones. I would really like to hear if anyone else has noticed this as well, or has found vendors that do sell these weapons. And I would love to know from Anet if this was just a mistake they made or intentional. Honestly I wouldnt be mad if this is how it is or if they made a mistake but I know some people would probably lose their minds, especially after dropping 63k Karma and finding out they could get the same skin for 500.

if this is in the wrong forum i apologize, i figured it seemed like a general thing.

Can we know the exact location of this place and vendors? It might not be a bug, since there is only a limited amount of skins in the game they probably “hid” this kind of karma vendors around the world.

It would be awesome to find a close alternative to human T3 armor

but since this is free to play I’m assuming you ask the clients for critical information

That’s like the most severe accusation against a development team imaginable in an MMORPG (well ok, except for generating loot for themselves).. any official statement?

I assumed that due to the several times ArenaNet has explained the different issues there are right now in the game (they explain how and why player showing lag in WvW and some other exploits have happened) and also because on the bot’s forums they explain that they introduce a proxy which is the one manipulating the data it sends to the server, so yeah, I’m pretty sure it goes like this (super “dumbed down” version):
Server: getPlayerMagicFindCoefficient
Client: Here is my magicFindCoefficient

So with a proxy in the middle of them they can modify everything to their pleasure, this also explains speed and teleport hacks, they basically fool the server into thinking they should be in another place.

The most scary part is their dupe item hack which is supposed to appear on November ><

I’m not sure they claim that 500% magic find is accurate, but the guys from TenTonHammer seem to have tested it and you could (although I do not recommend it) look it up and test it yourself, to me this is game breaking, also I found that they have the suspected Trade Post bot, which basically undercuts the lowest, so they do screw with the market and that’s how you end up with soooooooo many people placing items for 1c above vendor, the bot is doing that just to clear inventory and keep on botting.

Dear ArenaNet,

Today I read a very interesting blog post by TenTonHammer

There seems to be a 500% magic find exploit out there along with:

  • Teleport.
  • Running speed.
  • Wall hack.
    And so on.

I figure this happens because of your architecture, most MMOs run everything from the server side, so it’s very difficult to mess with the stats of characters and modifiers, but since this is free to play I’m assuming you ask the clients for critical information in order to leave a lot of the processing on them, instead of the servers, this leads to his awful hacks to be possible.

I can’t even begin to believe that there are open forums where you can download free hacks and bots that work.

So on to the suggestions:

  • Special anti bot task force should dedicate time to search for bots on google, you know the regular queries (free, bot, gw2, exploit, hack, etc), doing this I was able to find dozens of websites and open forums where people get together to talk and test all of this stuff. There are download links too, so you could install these bots and analyze how they work better, I honestly would if I had the time but this is something that a successful game should be able to pull of.
  • Client side PunkBuster or something like it: It’s pretty simple, since this is your game and we all accept the user agreement you should add a little stand alone mandatory punk-buster like software to look for hacks and “trainers” on the client, I know that punk buster has been bypassed by the best hackers but doing no checking on the client side is way worse than implementing something like this.
  • Finally, make the game more accessible, most of us were super willing to support your company from the get go, on my guild’s forum poll I chose along with others on a category named “Will probably spend more than 15 usd a month on Gw2”, but you know what? Your game handling has been disappointing, trying your best to sell BLC keys is one of the worst strategies I have ever seen, also, most of the stuff is quite expensive. You didn’t remove the carrot on the stick, you just hid it behind RNG and stuff from the gem store. So this makes some the casual players look for alternatives to obtain what they want, I wouldn’t use bots because they would ruin the fun for me, like back in the day using cheats or trainers on pc games, it just takes the fun out for me, but for many people it’s the only way to obtain the great shinnies that you have placed in the game.

TL;DR I love the game, please look up all the free (and paid) websites that are spawning with working bots and hacks and try to stop them from ruining the game for the rest of the people.

The first time I fought the Fire Elemental in metrica province, it was epic to see everyone dying more than 3 or 4 times per person and I only died once, I went inside and kited the adds with the help of an engi (I was a necro atm).

Also in metrica province, my very first jumping puzzle (Goemm’s Lab), it was just amazing because my wife saw the cave while I was playing and asked me to go there… it took me like 1 hour to figure it out and another hour to actually execute it because I fell a lot of times but it was super fun.

@JonPeters

Thank you for your political explanation but it doesn’t help, the issue is with Karma, which you guys have gone out of your way to make it impossible or impractical to convert to money.

It seems you guys are rushing patches to avoid botting, go and ask FFXI developers how they managed, that game it was full of RMT (not botters, it seemed like actual people doing it) and they fixed it, now the economy is run by players.

All your post doesn’t explain the need to have a “safety net” on Karma, karma is for bound stuff, not stuff you can sell, so we have no PvE endgame but to play for 20 minutes at a time? It’s going to get old really fast, rollback the DR until you have a good idea of what to implement next, maybe even have polls or data gathered from the forums instead of just pulling stuff like this.

tl;dr Karma DR is kitten , karma is for account/soulbound stuff, stop breaking our game with poorly thought patches and systems.

Karma awarding dailies

Being a casual player one of the things I love (sometimes hate) more than anything in this game is the daily achievement part of the game, since I can only play for 1 or 2 hours a day it helps me have a realistic goal every time I log on and it helps incredibly well to level up (the part that I sometimes hate is when I go onto an alt and the dailies have been done already by another character /sadface ).

Could you guys implement a new set of dailies that reward karma? We could have some goals that would “reward karma irl”, so basically helping others, stuff like revive people, help on dungeon story modes (this would also help lowbies once the game has become old and veterans no longer care for story modes), killing champions, and some other player assisting goals.

@Amiron
Some of us don’t have much time to play and I feel we are being hit the most, since ArenaNet wants us to keep moving and changing areas and doing different stuff they are basically going against their manifesto, they are not letting us play the way we want.

DR during DEs is the worst offender here IMO, Dungeons are for social people, DEs are for everyone, what are we supposed to do on end game? Grind dungeons or grind DEs and we are punished on both by DR but the DE-DR is just out of this world, after some 20 or 30 minutes it makes it unplayable so our options are to move to another zone, which can be time consuming or gold consuming, both of which impact more those of us with not much time to play (1 hour or so a day), if I wanted the whole hour just to farm DEs (which isn’t incredibly fun) I want to be able to do so.

Please ArenaNet, you are shooting yourself on the foot here, not the botters, they have infinite time to think of ways to improve the botting, so if you keep ruining parts of the game just to get the botters what is going to happen when you finally get rid of botters? You’ll have an ugly broken game with a bad reputation (read all of the forum posts regarding DR, it’s making players leave the game).

I’d like to suggest a kind of daily achievement that rewards Karma based on level, so a level 80 character could get a big boost in karma for doing stuff daily, that way us casual players can have something to look up to every day, and have a chance at getting exotic and legendary items.

When you have between two options being, player leaves the game because he got karma too fast and thinks he has nothing else to do now; and a second option in which player leaves the game because he will never get a shot at getting top tier stuff because we keep breaking the game; Which do you think will be more detrimental in the long run? Stop breaking such a wonderful game, DR is killing it, be sure of it.

Did ArenaNet make the lower levels "slower"?

I have an Asura Necromancer level 74, I have read since launch from a lot of people having trouble not reaching the required heart level to keep leveling and having to incur in mob grinding but I had never had that problem, if anything, I’m always over leveled for the zone I’m in.

Enter my two new alts, I made a Norn and a Charr and both of the feel terribly slow to level (Warrior and Engineer respectively), they have the very best gear I could get and still XP comes really slow, I gather everything, do every event (there are not that many available as on launch) and still they sit 2 or 3 levels bellow the next heart level, is this something new? Did arenanet do something to make leveling slower? Or is this related to each racial zone? I never had any problem with my Human Guardian or my Asura necro at launch.

Necromancer pets will not always attack.

Guys let’s keep this bug related first, I’m sure ANET won’t focus on profession balancing for now, they must have every single developer and tester working on bugs.

So for Necromancer bugs:
Please for the love of god make our pets attack only what we attack, Flesh Golem was funny at first being a super brain damaged sack of meat but now it’s not being funny anymore… well…. sometimes it is when my wife is watching me play and says “look honey, there goes your stupid pet again, going to hit that ugly two headed guy”, but any other time it makes me die it stops being funny, we lose gold from repairs and waypoints thanks to this bug.

Necromancer: Bug Collection

Rufio.5648

Just a few of the bugs I noticed, not in the mood to write them all down:
- minion AI is still the worst I’ve ever seen. Minions either tend to attack mobs you’re not in combat with or to don’t do anything at all

This is a really important bug, it has killed many necromancers around the globe because our pets attack random mobs, and they don’t come to our help when we need them. (maybe we should call unicef or something )

At first I thought “maybe this is working as intended, maybe these minions are just a bad badge I cooked up, or ANET wants the brainless minion to be true” but after much pondering I think it is indeed a bug.

From a guy that loves you, please fix this, I can live with it but I know many people, some of my friends and family, are not as forgiving as some of us are, people will leave the game if they feel their favorite profession/build is broken.
