Correct. We’re done, as likely to go back to GW2 as to PlanetSide 2, which means never.

Pity, because the game at its very core is pretty kitten good, but the longer we played the more flawed design choices we began seeing in the game.

I’ll repost here what I’ve written elsewhere: "About 20 guilds have left T2 for lower tiers, including one of the T1 guilds. The number of players who have abandonned T2 is over twice the amount that OnS and TW brought from T1. "

Yeah we were on YB. We could not get any fights in the last several weeks because FA and SoS just don’t come out. On the rare occasions they did, after getting thrashed several times they would just sit in their keeps and rain arrow carts upon us endlessly.

We essentially lost faith in ANet as a developer. They let WvW fester in this state for 3 full years without any major changes or improvements to the game mode. Now they’re finally making a new map but not addressing the most fundamental problems. The very fact that such a situation exists where servers don’t get rotated for months on end and just several guilds could ruin the WvW experience for an entire tier smells of bad design and lack of foresight. I don’t know whether ANet is incompetent or just doesn’t care, but the end result is stagnation and people leaving.

Sorry that they had almost three years before releasing a major release, but WvW has needed help from the first day and it is still not getting it. Still.

This is how you know ANet doesn’t really care about WvW, or at least has no clue how to make it work well. It’s all about really easy PvE and costumes and toys from the gem store for them. Standing around Lions Arch looking pretty and messing with pointless toys is apparently more important to this ANet and most GW2 players than actually doing difficult content with other players.

Nothing in this game provides any challenging content for guilds to do together. Which for a game called Guild Wars is pretty silly.

Anyways, my guild, which was on T2, quit. Most members did chargebacks so we won’t be coming back ever. We’re going to take an mmo break till Camelot Unchained comes out, a game that’s actually designed for large scale PvP (meaning it won’t be a lackluster afterthought like it is here). I suggest you all take a good look at it.

I suggested something similar to this. Probably in one of the many threads about server mergers, etc.

Keep the week long matchup. Divide each day into 3 eight hour scoring periods. For example, 8am-4pm / 4pm – 12am / 12am – 8am. Award points after each of these scoring periods. The highest PPT gets 5 points, the mid gets 3 points, and the lowest gets 1 point. This allows different time periods to essentially compete with each other. A server that is super strong during off-peak times would be on equal footing with a server that is strong during on-peak times.

Heck, let us do it for a week or two as an experiment to see how it works out.

T2 painfully stacked

For the players that were on YB before these T1 guilds stacked onto our server, it really sucks. We pretty much can’t WvW now because there’s no one to WvW against, and these T1 guys who want to “push to T1 lol” aren’t leaving because of all the locked servers.

This is a big problem because friends can’t join other friends for WvW and guilds can’t recruit people from other servers.

ANet should just scrap worlds altogether. At this point, with the megaserver, there’s no point to them.

The only function Worlds serve at this point is to divide up the WvW population. This can be achieved by other means. For example, ANet could do the following:
1. Implement Alliances. GW1 style alliances where a certain amount of guilds (10 ideally) could be allied together.
2. Scrap all worlds.
3. Replace the worlds with teams/shards/dimensions/armies/realms…whatever you want to call them.
4. The game mode is now officially called Mist War.
5. Shuffle the WvW population so that each team has a relatively similar amount of players.
6. Alliances get shuffled onto the same team, so the guilds stay together.
7. Players who did not get assigned to a team (i.e. players who don’t do WvW) are unassigned. They can join a team at any time.
8. Transfers from team to team are allowed once a month and must be paid with real money. This is to prevent teams from “buying” guilds and alliances.
9. New players and unassigned players have 1 free team transfer that must be used within 2 weeks of them picking their first team. This is so they can try out the game mode and have a chance to join a guild on another team after they do some research.
10. Institute free transfers from overpopulated teams onto underpopulated teams, with some sort of incentive to do so.
11. Create big instanced Castle or “Sanctuary” where only people from your team can go to. This is where they have all their vendors and banks, plus portals to all available battlegrounds.
12. Allow the game to open up new battleground maps when others are full, so instead of waiting in queue, players can fill up the new maps. This means that a team may have more than 4 maps available to play on, and all other teams will be available opponents across those maps.
13. Worldwide team rankings are based on how much territory a team controls.
14. Allow teams to completely conquer and “lock” maps. The ultimate goal should be to control as many maps as possible (look at Planetside 1’s continent-locking system).
15. Allow teams (or guilds/alliance on those teams) to invade other teams’ locked maps once they have certain requirements fulfilled (like gathering invasion resources or conquering territory on other maps).

This way, you eliminate the problems of server overpopulation/underpopulation, full locked servers, and map queues.

This also means you can get rid of EotM as a separate mode and just make it an additional Mist War map, bringing up the total to 4.

Seems like we all got screwed due to the T1 exodus into YB.

All due to ANet being incapable of making a system in which we don’t face the same opponents for months on end.

The way it is on Yak’s Bend right now is that we had to call of nightly WvW because Fort Aspenwood and Sea of Sorrows are no shows, and no fights are to be found. This is probably because a bunch of T1 guilds transferred to our server a few weeks ago to try to boost it up to T1 and shake things up, and ever since Yak’s Bend has been absolutely crushing the other two T2 servers, so they don’t bother showing up after Monday or Tuesday night.

The Glicko system sucks balls, as does the whole current state of affairs concerning Worlds, overpopulation/underpopulation and servers facing each other for months on end.

I feel like WvW needs to be redesigned in some way. Why not, Lion’s Arch went through 2 or 3 redesigns, they could put some time into WvW, right??? haha

After spending 40+ minutes in a queue to get into WvW, it’s the most frustrating thing to have the game lose connection to the server and be booted out of WvW.

Why is there no 3-5 min period during which we can reconnect right back into WvW? It seems like an obvious thing to implement.

ANet probably doesn’t want to start merging servers because a lot of players will take it as a sign of the game starting to die.

What they could do is pair servers up as teams. So the bottom 3 tiers for example would be 3 teams of 3 servers each fighting each other in the same matchup. Or they could pair up bottom-tier servers with middle to upper-tier servers to help mix up the stale matchups. Every reset or two they could change the pairings to mix things up.

I doubt I’ll buy the expansion because it’s got nothing I’m interested in. I pretty much just log on to do WvW with my guild and for daily login rewards. None of this new PvE stuff interests me.

Rather than more simple events that are meant to be a quick fix to provide some variety, and actually end up exacerbating already existing issues in the game, here’s some real things Anet could do to improve WvW:

1. Create server forums here on the official GW2 site. Having the playerbase have to do it, like it has been until now, doesn’t work because it forces players to go out of their way to sign up on a 3rd party site to get in touch with their server community. People are lazy and only the most dedicated will do that. Having official server forums will help increase and strengthen server identity, and intra-server competition.

2. Shake up the rankings, or change the ranking system. Playing against the same servers for months on end is no fun. I’ve been in T2 playing against Fort Aspenwood and Sea of Sorrows for a long time. I would like to fight some other servers too…

3. Make Lion’s Arch the server hub. Meaning that everyone in LA is on your server. The megaserver could do its thing everywhere else, but there needs to be a place that is exclusive for your server, and what better place than the “main city” of the game?

4. More maps. I know that Desert Borderlands is coming, and that’s great, but there needs to be more. We will still be in a situation where we have Eternal Battleground and 3 identical Borderlands maps. At minimum we should have 3 different borderlands maps and EBG. Ideally ANet should strive for the following:
-Desert Borderlands
-Alpine Borderlands (with some new mechanics)
-A Canthan-style borderlands map (makes sense cause Alpine=Tyria and Desert=Elona)
-“Fill in” EotM with more terrain and make it the 4th borderlands map.
-Two additional borderlands maps with different style terrain and architecture from all others, bringing the total up to 6.
-Reskin EBG to make it more “Eternal.” Right now it has the exact same look and feel as Alpine Borderlands. Make it look more like a mixture of Fissure of Woe, Underworld and Hall of Heroes/Courtyard from GW1.

5. Biggest change: we need a way to win. That means the ability to kick opposing servers off of a map. Capturing all objectives on the map “locks” the map for your server, providing your server with a large boost and reward. Other servers would need to fulfill some resource or conquest requirements to gain the ability to invade the map and try to regain territory on it. This kind of map-locking system would mean there there would be a frontline between the servers that shifts across multiple maps. It would also mean that there would be maps that sometimes have two servers duking it out, and sometimes all three. EBG would have 3 large keeps with Asura gates inside each of them, linking the keep to your home borderlands keep. Losing the keep severs the connection.

These are just some ideas. ANet has had 3 years to do something cool with WvW and it hasn’t. I hope they do cause WvW could be really good and unique in the gaming world.

Look at Planetside 1 and Dark Age of Camelot for inspiration. There are so many things those games did right…

I have an Nvidia GTX 560m. A lot of the time I can’t see Tornadeo when I cast it, it’s just invisible. In fact, I’ve only seen it once (like 15 min ago in Battle of Kyhlo).

Every time I go into sPvP I keep getting a “Network Error” 2-3 minutes into the match. It kicks me out to the character selection screen and I have to find another match, only to get disconnected again after 2-3 minutes, essentially rendering sPvP unplayable. I tend to go into servers with around 12-14 people out of 16.

I did this and noticed no change in performance. Still running at around 25fps (dropping to ~8fps when running into a new area) on max settings in Lion’s Arch.

Specs: 12GB ram, Nvidia GTX 560m 3gb, i7 2.2 GHz

Here’s a question for someone who might know: what GW2 profession is most like WoW’s warlock in terms of gameplay?

Tough because the GW2 professions are all pretty unique (except for the warrior). Even necromancers can fulfill a support roll by giving regen to allies and removing their conditions. What did you like most about the warlock?

I liked lots of things about the Warlock. I liked the fact that he was pretty tanky for a caster. I liked how 1v1’s essentially devolved to trying to keep an opponent from applying damage to you (Fearing and shutting down casters, kiting melee) while your dots tick away at their health. In mass pvp it was fun being able to wade into a big fight and fling spells left and right without being quickly squished by massive damage.

I made an Elementalist and I’m having fun, it’s a very mobile class with lot’s of tools at its disposal. I was just wondering if Necromancer was more similar to Warlock than Elementalist is.

WvW is missing queue info (where you are in the queue and the average time it takes to pop) and the ability to queue up for all of the maps.

I’ve heard that the queue is bugged too, with some players getting in in a matter of minutes and others waiting 4-5+ hours.

The way I see it, WvW queuing is either bugged, WvW caps are too low, or server population caps are too high.

This really needs to be rectified.
