Rift ruined other MMOs for me. GW2 has it’s highlights and I do enjoy WvW, but overall this game is terrible.
What’s so good in Rift? legit question cuz i never tried it but keep hearing about it
My favorite thing about it was the build freedom. You didn’t have to worry about stats (stats were uniform unlike this game); you created your build by choosing skills from 3 different souls(these could be considered similar to traits line although souls also gave you your active skills) and each class (mage, warrior, cleric, rogue) had 9 different souls (or 10 if you’re talking post Storm Legion) that were tailored to different roles. You could also slot as many skills as you wanted as well (You could have 6+ skills bars with 12 slots each). Then on top of that if you wanted to nudge your build in a certain direction you would put points into your planar attunement which gave you small passive bonuses.
I also love the trinity and raiding/vertical gear progression which Rift did very well. The raids and dungeons are interesting and bosses actually have different mechanics that make for difficult and varying fights.
The one other thing that became very noticeable after playing GW2 was that in Rift you were actually rewarded appropriately and not with the pittances they throw at you in GW2.

Contemplation of Purity, converting all conditions to boons, stun break, and a 2k heal if traited. Love this skill.
Stormbluff Isle
The reason why dodge > support skills/defensive armor is because of the removal of the trinity. Bosses have to do enough damage quickly enough so that tanking is impossible, as well as keep healing mostly self centered, otherwise we would still have a trinity. That only leaves damage mitigation as a means of survival(outside of self healing which will never be enough, because we can’t have healers). In fact it would be easier to just say that since we no longer have tanks or healers the only role left is dps. Without the trinity this is more or less how combat will remain. If, as some have suggested, bosses had some attacks that did less damage and a few that did a lot it would then allow for tanking. People could simply take the small hits and dodge/aegis/block the large ones. Without the trinity damage mitigation will always be the main method of survival, there is no “solution” to this.

Has anyone actually seen this 100 point chest? Every reference I can find states chests start at 500, and are rewarded in increments of 500. Anyone have less than 100 Achievement Points to verify there is such a chest?
The first chest you receive shows that it is the 100 point chest in the loot window.
Stormbluff Isle
I’m confused as to how this works. It’s not very well explained in-game. Say I have 5000 points. Do I then get my retroactive chests like: day 1: 100 pt chest, day 2: 500 pt chest, day 3: 1000 pt chest etc etc, and after 2500 there will be a 3000 one etc going up to 5000? Or, do I get the 100 pt chest, then 500 etc and it all adds up to my 5000 points, meaning i will get 100+500+1000+1500+2000=5100 achieve points?
And how does it work with new points I earn. Will i get a 100 pt chest for every 100 achieve points i get, and for every 500 I get the 500 one and so on? Meaning for 500 points i get 6 chests total?
The chests are not cumulative, they’re benchmarks.

Being a symbol build why didn’t you take traits that capitalize on symbols? Even though the value of Zeal traits may be questionable the minors are well suited to symbols. It looks more like an AH build adapted for symbols than a “symbol build”. And why writ of the merciful over writ of persistence? The heal on merciful is awful(the coefficient is terrible as well) and persistence will give you 75% up time on symbol of faith(good area denial and the extra regen will provide more healing than writ of the merciful).

I’m looking for a WvW guild on an NA server ranked 10(at the most) or less(lag is game breaking for me). I’m willing to transfer for the right guild(currently on SBI). I’d prefer to discuss the details in person but I’ll list some of the things I’m looking for in a guild.
-Fights > score
-Does GvGs
-Consistently fields players but isn’t too big(10-20 on average is what I’d like)
-Has a presence in both roaming and zerging
I’m in EST and mainly play at night. Any method of contact is fine.

I agree with the opposition. The guardian is one of the most balanced classes and needs few changes apart from the ones mentioned(scepter, spirit weapons, zeal). As for your comment about berserker guardians, they perfectly viable. I occasionally play a berserker/knight geared 20/15/30/0/5 meditation build in WvW and do just fine. I also don’t get why you think guardians are “Save Yourselves dependent”, it isn’t really that great and I don’t use it on any of my builds.

I’ve recently started participating in WvW and am looking for someone to teach me all the nuances. I only started a week ago and there is so much I don’t know.
What I’m Looking For:
I’m looking for a WvW veteran to teach me everything there is to know. I don’t have any specific requirements. Experience in every aspect is a plus(solo roaming, small squads havocs I believe they are called, and zerging), if you are/were a commander but as I said it’s not required(I am interested in talking to someone with this perspective though), siege is a big one as I don’t understand the appropriate uses. There’s more but that’s some of the things I’d like to know. One specific question I do have is how to most effectively combat warriors and engineers. I’ve never played these classes and don’t know what to expect from them.
Details:
Assuming people answer this I will pick someone for the job a couple days after this post. Then ideally I’d like to set a up a time to meet and go into WvW for something like 2 hours(at least once but possibly more if you’re good). I’m in EST and am available weekday night(it varies but that can be discussed) and pretty much all day on the weekends. I’m comfortable with voice chat or just messaging in game, either way is fine.
Reply:
In a reply I’d like to see things like how long you’ve been playing WvW, are you a commander or not, have you played on any other servers, what you usually do when in WvW, professions played, times available, and any other information you think is relevant.
(You can post here or send me a pm, do not send me in game mail.)

I think the amount of currencies is fine however I would like to see some changes to the dungeon tokens. Changing the amount need for armor/weapons into single or possibly low double digits(and change the amount rewarded accordingly) so people wouldn’t have a bunch of tokens filling up bag/bank space.

Earning gold to buy them will be the way to go. If you have any thoughts about farming I would suggest reading through some of the threads on charged lodestones, it typically isn’t worth your time. Running CoF will be the fastest way to get the money(I can get about 6g an hour but you can do better with an optimal party), it would amount to almost 2 lodestones an hour. It may be tasteless, but it gets the job done.

I assume you read my post but on your website it says you like potential members to have dungeon master/fotm 40+, of which I have neither. I also main a necro and according to your website you are not accepting applications for necro. I’m just looking to confirm that I won’t be immediately denied because of this, otherwise I won’t bother.

I will talk to you some time soon, probably in a day or two.

I am currently looking for a guild that primarily does dungeons(all or at least a majority)/fractals. I consider myself to be a mature intelligent person and would like any guild I join to be people of like mind. Aside from that I have three major deciding factors.
1. – I’m not looking for a casual guild. I’m looking for players that optimize, take the game seriously, implement strategies, and are interested in going as far as they can(in any/all aspects of the game). Just to be clear on what I’m not looking for. I am NOT looking for a guild that’s into min/maxing speed runs(although I always attempt to go as fast as possible) with specific professions. I don’t care what profession or build someone runs as long as they’re good.
2. – Size doesn’t matter to me as long as you’re not too large. Basically I don’t want to be just another name on the list but there needs to be enough people on regularly to get groups together. I’d like to be able to do said content every night.
3. – As of this post I am no dungeon master. I’m eager to learn so you must be willing to teach me. I have not yet stepped into fractals however I would like to do so soon. I’ve done most dungeons and have a fair bit of experience in that area, but I could use more.
Miscellaneous
A few more minor details/preferences
-Having some sort of voice chat is preferable(even though I am rather quiet).
-I enjoy taking part in guild activities(have only done bounties up to this point).
-I’m in EST and mainly play on nights(during the week) and weekends.
-I play a necro and am leveling an ele.
-The only other content I participate in is open world. At some point in the future I may WvW so if your guild does some of that it would be a plus(as long as it isn’t one of your main activities).
-I’d really prefer not to transfer servers as I transferred to SBI to join my current guild, however if you think you fit the bill then go ahead and reply regardless of server(I will consider it).
-A guild that requires representing would actually be nice.
-Do not send me in game mail.
(If you would like to know more simply ask.)

This could easily be exploited. Since none of the actions that you indicated, in fact indicate skill, people could easily ’farm" rep. Your party could enter combat(given that all the actions listed would normally occur during combat, although this may or may not be the case) and simply leave an enemy alive while performing these actions, boosting their rep. So in that respect the rank would actually not inform you how “skilled” that player is because you have no idea how they got there. In regards to having it based simply on how many actions you take per minute I have no idea how you would think that would indicate skill, anyone can take as many actions as they choose to.
It’s hard to establish an objective measure of player competency(outside of empirical knowledge, acquiring which would be tedious). This would not be it.
EDIT: Electro also made some good points.

The problem with lowering the price of keys is that it would have a direct effect on the entire GW economy. Using Mark’s example, if with the normal 5 keys for 450 gems you get 2 salvage kits, you have already made a 33% gain(although since you did not receive gems directly this could be considered relative). If you then use both kits to salvage rare 80 gear and get say 62 ectos(I’ll just stick with the more notable reward from salvaging for this example, I created an average with information from this thread, https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/BL-S-Kits-vs-Master-Kits-Results-Ectos) , at the current selling price that’s approximately 18.6g, which you could then trade in for 1000 gems(more than twice your initial investment). Those gems could then be turned into more keys and you could just repeat this procedure. Now since the chance of getting BL kits is fairly slim(at least in my own experience) and you must compare this across all players, you can see how this doesn’t cause any problems(gains by some players are countered by losses from others). Imagine if the price was lowered, you could potentially make massive gains by buying a lot of keys at this new price(and more players would be able to get positive returns), making huge gains which would cover your initial investment many times over, and reinvesting. Given a good amount of luck you could infinitely continue to make a positive return, flooding the GW economy(in regards to both the in game market and gem market). Then consider the fact that ectos are not the only thing you get from salvaging.
After writing the previous paragraph I also realized you could potentially make a positive return by buying the BL kits directly(however given the chance of getting ectos this could not be guaranteed).
I would also like to say that even in this case Anet would in fact make money because all they have to cover is the initial implementation cost(which would involve coding and designing the market interface/transaction procedure, undoubtedly not much in monetary terms) and maintenance. I can almost guarantee they have already more than made their money back. The only noticeable effect would be seen in the in the player economy.
As for the rest of the proposed suggestion I see no problems.
(I do not believe I made any errors but if you do see any please point them out. )
EDIT: Actually I should have said regarding possible flooding of the gem market that this would only happen if Anet changed prices depending on this variable(which would probably not be the case considering this isn’t real life).
When I suggested the keys be lowered in price, it was just a “for instance”. In my opinion, ALL consumables in the gem store are way overpriced. Maybe I’m in the minority and a lot of people buy them up, but I personally won’t because they are just too expensive. If they lowered the price of keys, they would have to lower everything else accordingly.
I’m sure the business side of Anet has to have run some numbers to find the point where they maximize their profits the most with consumables in terms of price vs. volume. I would hope they have them priced at that sweet spot, but I really just don’t know a lot of people that spend money on the consumables. But the ones I do know that do, they spend A LOT.
I don’t disagree with you at all regarding the current prices, the value I would get from the items for me is less than I would have put in.
If they lowered all the prices they would also have to adjust the gold/gem exchange rate as well or the player economy would see a massive influx of gold, which would upset a lot of people. I’m not saying this isn’t an obvious requirement if prices were lowered, just thought I’d mention it.

I think this would be a good idea, it’s already a weak trait(even for 5 points) and this would add a little more viability(you wouldn’t have to put 30 points in Death Magic to get Death Nova). This would make it a little more useful to necros who put points in Death Magic but don’t use minions. I also don’t see this causing any balance issues.
(A little more health or less degen would also be nice. )

What I’m Looking For:
I’m looking for an active, mature, PvE guild, if your guild does everything(PvX) that’s fine. Size doesn’t really matter, being a small guild with very active members is as good as being a larger guild. I’d like to stress the mature part, stupid and/or random(as in having strange content) conversations, trolling, and the like are a massive negative for me. I’m not going to be picky about this but being an established guild(a rather vague term but I’ll leave it up to interpretation) is a plus.
About Me
I’m a fairly new player, however I am not new to MMOs. I played GW for 1 & 1/2 years, and Rift for about 5-6 months. As I said in the title I play a necromancer, I tend to play a minimum amount of characters(2 maybe 3 at the most) and prefer to specialize rather than have my hands in everything. I’m an almost exclusive PvE player, I abhor PvP(in MMOs) although I do intend to try WvW at some point. As far as personal qualities I would describe myself as intelligent, mature, albeit quiet person. I am active and tend to be on mostly at nights during the week and sporadically throughout the weekend, I’m in EST. One last quality I think would be of interest to a potential guild is that I am committed. If your guild is what I’m looking for I will contribute to the best of my ability(since I am new I will be somewhat seclusive at first until I an confident in my knowledge of the game, but I will help when I can).
Reply
A reply does not need to be lengthy. I would like to know things like activity level(on average how many players are on at any given time), a rough guild size, how long you’ve been around, things that your guild does, and any other information you think is relevant.
On a final note I currently play in Devona’s Rest as indicated in the title. I am willing to transfer servers, however if you’d ask me to do this I expect a reply as detailed as my post(I will not transfer on a whim).
