32Gb Ram
Geforce GTX 660Ti
Have you made any changes to the regisrty or used a program that alters registry to supposedly reduce latency in games? If you have then that could be the problem. Not so long ago I had a similar problem when playing in a dungeon it would keep crashing, but outside of dungeons it was fine.
I had made changes to registry to improve latency and when I reversed those changes the game no longer crashed. If you havn’t done any changes like it could be some other networking issue.
I would like to comment to those people that say Software cannot cause a BSOD and that it’s your hardware and/or OS. That is inacurrate as software can infact cause a BSOD due to bad coding. An example is from an MMO I will not name (don’t want to taint these forums with the name hehe).
What was happening was if you took a flightpath from a particular major city to any other destination, during the flight it would BSOD. If I recall corrrectly this was only happening to people with more then 4 gigs of ram. If you had 4 gigs or lower you were fine. This was because of a coding issue related to memory addressing. After a patch was released for the game the problem was resolved.
The GTX 460 will probably keep you going for a little longer so you’ll get away with keeping that. However I would be trying to get 2 8GB memory sticks incase you decide at a later date goto 32gigs since ram these days is dirt cheap
. Finally I would be more inclined to go 2TB min since games and programes in todays day and age can quickly fill 1TB.
Apart from that the rest of it seems good. After saying all that tho, if you are willing to wait abit longer I’m pretty sure the next gen intel processors are due to come out which will be a different socket again.
I would like to add too that a GPU can still run cool and be faulty. I’v previously had a brand new grpahics card at one point and every so often without warning and no set time my monitor would display an irregular image. It was just what appeared to be garbled graphics. Same as in your case my temps were find but it still turned out to be a faulty graphics card. Soon as a replacement was sent out and installed my problem was gone.
So my advice is to try another graphics card if you can borrow one and see if that eliminates your problem.
Sounds like you’ve done everything short of reinstalling the OS which I would not recommend doing unless it was a last resort thing. However one thing you have not mentioned doing is running a virus scan of your computer which I would recommend you do. Also make sure your recycling bin is empty. If your running a standard HDD and it hasn’t had a defrag done for quite awhile, then I suggest doing one of those too.
The second rig is the better as far as it having a SSD for the OS because they are alot faster at booting into the OS and running any programs from it, howver some programs you may not see a difference.
It also comes with a 1TB HDD which in todays day and age would be the minimum i would even recommend since games and other software can take alot of room therefore you would fill the 500GB one from the first system in no time.
With the processor they are both fast to the point where you would probably not even notice the difference between the 2. The 660Ti will do you for a few years and probably longer so no problems there and its a good card.
As for the previous post regarding the H60 cpu water cooling unit, I have one and it makes no noise plus the added bonus of no bulky heatsink taking up room in the case. At idle my cpu’s temp is 24/25 degrees celcius, but my processor is the i7 3820 so can’t really say if you will get higher or lower temps and not overclocked.
To finish off I will give you a little tip with ram. It is not the ram that governs if it is dual channel or quad channel (which is what my system runs at). Its the chipset on the motherboard. Since your board only supports dual channel all you need to do is make sure you have pairs of ram installed. When they are advertised as dual channel, that is just a marketing gimmic as any 2 sticks of ram will run in dual.
Sorry to hear your account was hacked. Sounds like they may have hacked your email account to authorize the login, so the first thing I would be doing is changing your email password. The next step is to email support with as much detail as possible along with the screenshots. When changing the password its best to make it atleast 8 characters long and with numbers and letters and even use uppercase. Just be sure you don’t forget the password yourself lol.
Your not alone on this issue. I can get exactly that same problem in more then just the Black Citadel tho and doing exactly what you said does fix it but the problem does return. I’m guessing its just a problem in the coding in the game.
I have done alpha testing before (and i mean alpha not beta) for an MMO and when we were testing that, in a particular area the fps would drop to like 2 to 5 and not return to normal untill you got out of that area. The devs told us that yes they are aware of it and they know it’s a coding issue and that they were working on fixing that part of the game.

I would concer with Knightmage. Definatly sounds like cpu is getting too hot and computers these days are made to shutdown when the cpu gets too hot, and the reason you can’t restart it for 3mins is so it can cool down. If its not the cpu, then the psu is the next thing to eliminate as a source of the problem. However, I would be surprised if it was the psu, because if they die, usually you can’t even boot the computer.

I would have to agree with the OP, there does need to be more things to do once you hit 80. We all know what the dev’s said about the whole game been endgame, and yes I had a fun time leveling my first character and I still enjoy leveling alts.
Right now as the game stands there is no purpose to run dungeons except only for the skins (thats even if you like the looks of a dungeons armor). Fractals is only good for ascendent gear and even then its only rings, and amulets I think. There are people out there including myself that would like to have something there at level 80 to aim for.
The one simple fix I can see that would make it better is make the exotic gear from dungeons have higher stats to the exotic gear you can make though crafting. And before someone says all exoctic gear is supposed to have the same stats because its the same quality or whatever, let me ask you this. If that is the case then why in other games is there different stats on epic quality gear? Its all epic yet different stats.

Like other people have mentioned with FPS issues, true turning your shadows down to medium or even off completely and reflections on Terrain and Sky. The only problem I ran into with low FPS was I could be running through a zone and a particular area would cause my FPS to drop to 15 fps: soon as I got out of that area it went back to normal.
If I restarted the game it would be fine again. In the end it was starting to get really anoying and I knew this had to be some kind of problem within the code. At first I was going into graphics setting and choosing high performance then back to detect settings and that would fix it untill it done it again.
So in the end after reading the suggestions people were saying about shadows and reflections and applying those settings I have never had that problem since. This really is only a temp fix untill Anet can located what is causeing this isssue and squish it. So my advice to anyone having any kind of FPS issue is to try setting shadows to medium or lower and reflections set to terrain and sky. Thats all you can really do.
I was using the Lynx for awhile till a friend told me about the fern hound, Their pretty good and have a knockdown. If i need ranged Devourer is about the best one i’v come across so far, currently testing the forest spider out. For underwater pets definatly the Jellyfish. I heard the Amourfish was great at tanking but I found it to be quite the opposite. It was crap, taking too much damage. The moment I switched to the Jellyfiish it was like OMG this thing rocks. Takes bugger all damage and can dishout some dps.
Hello Gaile,
Allow me to surprise you then regarding suspension tickets taking longer then 72 hrs
. When I was suspended I immidiatly put a ticket it. So that was all good, now it was a matter of waiting patiently, or so I thought. I got a reply back 24 hrs later saying the ticket was esculated. Since then I have heard nothing back, my account is now playable because the 72 hrs is up and it’s been a week since, thats 7 days and still no answer. I don’t need an answer since I can play now but still I think an investigation is needed with accounts to find out why they are taking so long. My ticket number is 130101-000832

I’v done a search and could not seem to find anything regarding this. I think what needs to be done with the exotic gear you get from dungeon tokens is have their stats higher then the exotic gear you can craft. At the moment the stats are exactly the same, so the only reason you have to farm a particular dungeon for it’s tokens is for the skin of the armor. That to me just makes running dungeons pointless if your happy with the way the gear you make looks.
So I think they need to boost the stats so they are higher then crafted gear. This way you will have people playing the content and not just leveling to 80 making gear they like, or even buying it, stop playing and not spending another dime on the game through the store.
About 10 minutes ago I had my account suspended for apparently inappropriate behavour. All I was doing was leveling a new character I just created and not even talking in chat. I got no warning and no GM sent me a tell to discuss it, it just happened. I’v sent in a ticket already to get it removed. Honestly Anet this is bad customer service especially when this has never happened to me before. Its a great way to loose people to and gives you a bad name. Look what happened to SWTOR and their customer service and the effect it had on the player base. I know alot of people left and bad customer service was the main reason.
If the dps meter only reads what your character is pulling then yes I would agree with having one. The reason I dislike having dps meters in a game that records every person’s dps in the group, is that too many people think of it as an excuse to kick someone from a group if they don’t think their dps is high enough.
In the case of recording everyones dps the disadvantages more then outwiegh the advantages. As an example you might have 2 people in the group, one pulling high dps and dying all the time and another person that is pulling less dps but knows how to stay alive and stay out of the dumb @#$%. Overall the person pulling the lower dps has a high total damage done by the end of the fight because the other person keeps dying.
To conclude, yes having a dps meter is good but not if it is going to record everyone’s dps that is in the group.
If it’s a female trying to mount my Charr thats fine, she can ride me all day lol. But serious to the point of this topic…While I can see mounts are needed in alot of games which infact already have them, because of the waypoints and gates we have for travelling, you generally don’t have to walk far to get to where you are heading. I guess in some instances where it might be some distance from a waypoint a mount would be of use but apart from that there would be no reason to spend gold to get one if they were available. As for the Skritt, their not too bright and might burn themselves if they try to burn down the world hehe
I have to admit after posting this and doing some searching, I was thinking wait a minute, I forgot we have fractals now. With the way fractals work that would fill that gap easily. So after reflecting on that it probably isn’t needed. However, saying that I think it would still make for a nice addition to the game.
Ok so let me start by saying I think this game is great and I love playing it when I login. However I believe its still missing something to make it even better. It has probably been suggested before, and I do apologise if that is the case, but my opinion is there needs to be raids in the game. I have faith that Anet using the system they have now, with no holy trinity could work in a 10 man raid atleast, maybe not 25 but most certinly 10. Adjusting mobs wouldn’t be that difficult if you think about it. They just have to make them tougher so they don’t die as quick but not so much where they can 1 shot a single person. Before anyone says it, yes I know they have the lvl 80 dynamic events which technically would be a raid, but it’s not the same thing. If Anet could somehow apply raids to what they have now Guild Wars 2 would be something that words could not even describe.
