With the new patch making dyes account wide unlocks, do you think the prices of identified dyes will increase or decrease?
The reason I’m asking is now that it will be account wide unlocked, I want to purchase the Abyss Dye. Will it be cheaper to buy now or right after the patch?

What are some good light armor sets or mixes for an asura?
Also, pictures would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: Should clarify I’m a male asura

I think there are already too many greatswords in the game as is. Now what I would like to see is a off hand axe or a torch in either hand (or both). Just for some variety.
I could also see a necro with a mace and shield, but that’s a lot of weapon choices.

10/10 for hand-vomitting. That is an awesome way to name things. But on the real, like the names.
My male ranger is named Woodshavings.
10/10 that’s an awesome name!
My sylvari necromancer is Dæmös (my variation on the word Deimos, which was a character in Greek mythology who “personified fear”)
My warrior is Rœn, and my guardian is Rœl. I liked the simple names and figured they could be born from the same pod or something, and they’re pronounced like “row-en” and “row-ull”
And lastly, my elementalist’s name is Niæn (“Ni-ayn”)

I have a level 30 human female elementalist, but I recently decided I would rather have a sylvari male elementalist. I’m fine with leveling up a character but I just don’t want to level another elementalist to 30.
I know crafting can level you up quickly, but it can get pricey really quickly. I’m willing to try crafting but I don’t have a lot of gold.
So just in your experiences, what is the fastest way to level up to 30? I just want to catch up with my current elementalist.

Thank you all for your input. I’ve definitely ruled out norn, but now I’m thinking between asura or sylvari. I’ll play on both and decide…
Thanks!

Hello. I decided to make a warrior alt because they just seem really powerful and fun. But I can’t decide if I want to be a norn or an asura. Asuras are little so it’s really funny when they easily destroy things but I don’t know how good they would look in heavy armor. A norn is big and fitting to the class but do they look good in heavy armor?
Mainly what I’m looking for is whether they’ll look good in the long run. So who looks better as a warrior: norn or asura?

I’m relatively new to necromancers too. I am level 24, and so far I have 10 for Spite and 4 for Soul Reaping. I use shadow fiend and back it up with a staff or dagger/focus.
This, so far, is working very well for me. The standard dps build (from what I’ve seen on the forums) is 30/25/0/0/15 so I’m slowly working towards that.
So in response to the “best” way to trait to level, I can’t be sure. But my build so far is satisfying to myself. And plus you can keep retraiting if you want to experiment.
Good luck! And welcome to the wonderful world of necromancers!

If you want to look good, human. If you don’t care about cosmetics, charr. Humans are too plain and common in the world, so charr seems the better choice of the two.
However, in my opinion, I think sylvaris look really cool as necromancers. But that’s my opinion because I love my sylvari necro. (He’s black with a blood red pattern with dark red hair, the perfect look for a necro imo)
But definitely charr between the two that you’re contemplating.

What exactly is RNG? And does sword and dagger really take that much skill to use? It seems relatively straight forward (but maybe that’s because I’m level 8 lol). Maybe I won’t focus on my ranger and stick with my necromancer because I feel like I could be more useful and better with that profession…
But I’m still going to keep my ranger and maybe play it every now and then in case there’s a good update for rangers.

This is a problem in every mmorpg I’ve played so I just want to bring it up to see if anybody shares my opinion.
I think one handed weapons should be cheaper than two handed weapons. If you’re running a build that requires only a two handed weapon, you only need to purchase one item. Whereas if you have a duelist type of build with two one-handed weapons, you need to buy two items. This isn’t a big deal in the beginning of the game but buying cultural weapons or other highly ranked weapons can get really pricey really fast.
I just think it’s not fair that the people that run builds that require two weapons have to pay twice as much for their weapons as players that run builds with just a two handed weapons.

I’m just really against giving the necro a gs or hammer. There are already too many greatswords in the guild wars world as is. And hammer just doesn’t suit the profession at all imo. We need a cleave weapon, but it should be a one handed weapon.

Currently I’m using shortbow and s/d and it’s really fun. I feel like using a greatsword kind of defeats the purpose of the ranger (still not really sure why they even have it to be honest). I still want anet to give rangers staves and make them more of a ritualist but that’s another topic…
For casual playing, I loved my guardian. It gave me a feel for the game without taking too much time to figure it out or strategize. But it didn’t take long before I got bored of mindlessly killing everybody and wanted more of a challenge profession. Warriors are also really fun to play, for me mostly from the fact that they have so many weapons to choose from. They hit about the same or higher as guardians but don’t have as much defense (in lower levels at least, I never got far with my warrior).
But also, try every class and see which is right for you. I know I’ve definitely had a few of every profession that I keep making and deleting. But I always come back to ranger (and necro, my main).
But another question – How are rangers in WvW?
House of the Steel Dragon – Darkhaven
Okay I’m going to keep at it, hopefully it’s rewarding in the end! thanks to everyone for the advice
House of the Steel Dragon – Darkhaven
Usually in games I play as an archer, but in this game they don’t seem to be very good. I just started one and it has relatively good damage and evasion (and the pet is great) but I’ve seen a lot of posts saying that a ranger is only good at low levels, because later the pets are underpowered and the utility skills and slot skills become useless. And a lot of posts saythat most of the time rangers aren’t necessarily wanted for grouping for dungeons and whatnot. If this is true, then I don’t really want to continue on with my ranger. So are rangers better now than they were a few months ago (they were pretty weak when I started playing) in terms of PvP, WvW, or PvE? I just don’t want to put a bunch of time into a useless class.
Oh and the update on October 11th… Is that going to boost rangers?
Edit: Spellcheck

Am I the only one that thinks a mace would be a cool weapon for necros? I don’t think a great sword or hammer would be good. I want to see maces, torches (either hand), off hand axe, and shield (maybe). That’d be cool if they made a scythe and made it exclusive to necromancers just so we would be more unique.
House of the Steel Dragon – Darkhaven
Okay I’ll start off using dagger/dagger and minions and I’ll have a staff in my alt. Then I’ll probably do a glass canon powermancer just because I love dealing a lot of damage. I’ll experiment with all the builds individually and choose one that I like the most. Thanks for the options, I’ll definitely look into them.
House of the Steel Dragon – Darkhaven
I’ve always wanted to be one, they seem like they’re really fun. I just wanted to know if you guys had some tips on being a necromancer because they seem really complex and hard to play to their full potential.
So what is the best weapon set for leveling in your opinion? I’ll try all of them and decide for myself, I just want some input. What are good beginning traits, skills, etc? Anything you feel that I should know! It would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Shortbows (or Longbows) for Elementalists. Elementalists are mages, and mages generally have ranged abilities. However, this profession doesn’t have many ranged abilities other than the staff skills.
And some sort of duel wielding for Guardians. Maybe Maces OH or Axes for both MH and OH. Just so when you use a scepter, you can have a melee weapon in your OH.
Definitely staves for rangers. I wish they had kept the Ritualist class from Guild Wars 1, but I think they could somewhat bring it back by adding nature spells to rangers. I think it would be interesting because then they would be more in tune with nature. And maybe it could make other players actually want rangers in their groups!

I was the same way, except with a lot less than 250 hours on my guardian. Around level 20 I realized it was more of a support character so I decided to make a warrior to see if I enjoyed it more. So far, it’s apparent that warriors can die much easier without too much of an abundance of extra attack.
I know I’m still at low levels, but just don’t give up on your guardian. It’s possible for a guardian to do very heavy damage if you build it right, while still being harder to take down.
House of the Steel Dragon – Darkhaven
I’ve always wanted to use spears above water. It would go perfectly with the guardian class I think. But I think having three different types would be a little too much. I think just one handed spears would suffice.
And I was actually surprised when I started playing this game to find out that there weren’t two handed axes. Especially when the warrior profession has a huge axe in its picture on the website. So I agree 100%.
Edit: I also feel that the one handed spears should be exclusive to guardians, while two handed axes be exclusive to warriors. I think it would add a nice contrast between the classes and it would add more specialization.
House of the Steel Dragon – Darkhaven
No, I agree that it would be a really fun class to play, but I just think that since the main difference between a warrior and a guardian class is that one is offense and one is defense. But I like the idea of having an offense/defense option. It might go well if it was more of a monk class that used heavy armor, as I stated above. For the offense attunement it could have melee weapons and offensive magics, whereas the defensive attunement could have melee weapons also, but have the support magics be it’s main focus.
So I see where you’re going with your profession, I just feel that it would need to be more unique so it isn’t just a combination of existing classes.
House of the Steel Dragon – Darkhaven
Monk and rit are out as they have been absorbed into the guardian and i believe it even says so on the guardian page .
@ fergus
I had a similar idea of applying attunements to a heavy but more in an offensive and defensive manner .I call it the tactician
A Heavy class that “attunes” itself to either offense or defensive roles. Its class mechanic would be to have an offensive and defensive attunement that would switch weapon skills based on it . It would have a medium base health and have the following weapons
Main hand
Sword,Axe,
Off hand
Dagger,Shield,Sword,Mace
2 hand
Longbow,Hammer
An example of offensive vs defensive attunements might be
Sword Dagger offense grants a chance at poisoning a foe on dagger strikes and is purely offensive skills where as Sword Dagger defense grants a chance at stability every so many seconds and has more block/evade skills
I don’t know if that would be a widely accepted profession because it kind of defeats the purpose of having a warrior for offensive and a guardian for defensive. If they were to release a new profession, it would have to be pretty different from the classes they already have.
I really like the idea and I think it would be a neat profession, but I think it’s too much like the warrior and guardian classes.
House of the Steel Dragon – Darkhaven
I actually really like that idea of a profession, Fergus. Maybe a heavy armored cleric sort of class that uses heavy weapons like hammers and greatswords along with staves and scepters for some healing and CC magic?
And I don’t think the Ritualist profession by any means would be easy to play as, and it would probably take as long as, if not longer than, an elementalist would. It seems like it would be a very complex class to play as. If they used nature magics as well as summoning spirits, it could introduce a whole new style of gameplay.
House of the Steel Dragon – Darkhaven
I’ve played on almost every class at some point and find myself wishing there were more professions like in the original Guild Wars. I wish they could bring back the Ritualist and Monk professions because I love nature-based classes and major support characters.
And I think, if they’re introducing some new races soon, they should add some new professions so players have more options when creating new characters with those new races.
And not to mention that the Dark Betrayal expansion of Aion introduced two new classes, which in result convinced a lot of former players to come back and brought in a lot of new ones.
Tell me what you all think! Thanks for reading.
