I wish for GW1 style PvP in the future

I agree with you, this game is so different to be enjoyable for a lot of Gw1 pvper. But you have to understand that GW 2 will get closer to GW1, because the basics mechanics are not the same ( trinity, teamplay, buildwars..). Adding modes like RA/GvG/Ha wont change anything.

Here is a good topic about it : https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Lost-potential/first

And this one too (that’s mine :p ) : https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/That-s-not-Guild-wars-PVP/first#post196424

Perhaps if they would add shield bash, bull strike, guardian, skull strike, savage shot, cripshot.

Don’t forget Power Block, Pd, diversion, shame..

Thanks man, there are a lot of people that got upset with what I said. I feel that a lot of people expected one thing and when they showed up to sPvP and couldnt keep up they got upset. All they need to do is relax and enjoy themselves, they could do a lot of good if they would contribute to their relative PvE forums, instead they are in the sPvP forums trying to derail our constructive threads.

Like I said before, I feel that this game needs some room to breath. A lot of people are comparing it to well established games like WoW and League. I remember when League came out, it was a moba for children and the only people that wanted to touch it were kids that cared more about graphics than gameplay. Now more than a million children play League as well as people who have found successful e-sport careers amongst that low-skill meta and its just not fair to compare gw2 to that. It took a lot longer than 4 months for league of legends to get a sizeable fanbase, yet people are expecting GW2 to already be up there where GW1 was. Thats impossible for 4 months of being released, and very stupid to expect. There are a lot of stupid people out there though, but thank goodness only a few of them have reared their young heads here.

It really reminds me of league of legends vs dota2. League kids expect it to be easy and simple, but its not so they cry because thats how they usually get what they want. Dota2 people enjoy what they do because the skill curve is respectable, the game looks respectable and the community makes it harder and has respectable developers that dont need to re-work every new champ they release. Gw2 is receiving a lot of the same unwarranted grief that Dota 2 did when the league kiddies had their kittens challenged by a higher skill level game.

There will just always be people who have to put something down just because they arent as good at it or because they can’t have fun.

I was joking btw.

EaGrimdarK, ty for that awsome topic. Keep up the good work, don’t let anyone say something negative about this game.

The pvp is awsome, the balance is good, there’s a lot of challenge, GW2 is going to be as popular as SC2 for sure.

The topic itself lacks substance to comment on.

Greetings

We created enough “substance” about why GW1 PvP was better than GW2.

Here Sir, have a nice read : https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Lost-potential/first

Anet don’t want to hear what former pvp players have to say. That’s really frustrating.

Anyway the most absurd comments are the ones about the “points to the losers”, I mean for real?In GW1 both in GvG and HA the defeated teams would get pts regardless, of course less pts compared to the winner..but still the same type of pts.

No. You loose, and that’s it. Back UW, “Kiss zaishen for me”.

Sometimes people really should think twice before talking

Yes, really. Think twice.

P.S

I don’t know anybody called “Setsuna Sakuragi”, should I ?

I know [WoOm] Guild, at least.

In Ha, “lame” team were a good alternative for casual, since builds were really simple to use. Even with a low ranked team, you were able to wipe good balanced sometimes. (but no real hope to win more the 3 first maps).

I’ve never played lame, but I always tought it was something cool, like a normal reaction to the elitism of balanced team.

I sincerly think Anet was inspired by Iway, Sways, etc to build pvp mecha in Gw2.

Stop pretending that because after a month and a half this doesnt live up to nostalgia fueled memories of a game that was developed over 6 years IN ADDITION to development before launch (because some of you like to pretend that pre-launch development only counts for this game).

All Gw1Pvp vet knows that they won’t be able to experience the same things as they did in GW1. No matter how long you will wait, Gw2 will always be a different on so much points.

We bought the game with the hope to experience something similar to Gw1. At least there is more difference than common points between both Pvp. It’s not just about lake of mode, or whatever. There’s a whole kind of “spirit” which is gone with Gw2Pvp.

It seems like all is about elite vs casual.
You can make enjoyable game for casual and hardcore players, if this game is a solo game. Sc2 is a good example.

I’m not sure you can make a teamplay-game enjoyable for both elite and casual players. “Lf r13++ syndrom” is part of Esport Teamplay game I think.

Personnaly, I don’t see that’s wrong with the idea of training harder and harder to reach high ranks, being famous, getting a pro friend list (basics Gw1 pvp objectives). It’s not fun. Fun is a short-term vision. Esport is about something like self-acomplishment.

Guys really, forget about GW1 pvp. It’s over, Anet made their choice, they denied the old pvp mechanic and logic.

Go find another game, this one wont never be similar to what you (and I) experienced on GW1. Anet don’t give a kitten about Pvper from GW1. It was an elitist world, which is not really trendy in games these days.

We’ve bought the game anyway, at least.

Like I said on my topic, the main problem is that the whole pvp is designed on the individual, not the team. Gw1 was the right opposite.

For those who played ranger/sin/flag in Gw1, this new gameplay can be interesting.

I played W/lead. in gw1. I can’t lead anymore since players have to be independant. There’s no spike to call neither. And moreover, since fights don’t last more than 1-2 minute (I mean real engagement, which were uninterrupted in Gw1), there’s no need for observation and patience anymore. I also played a lot mez and monk. Both were very linked, since mez were trying to break the backline (and annoy opponent middle-lines, but sicne their’s no more hex and casting bar…) . Anet destroyed those 2 chars.

Every class can be independant on the field, that’s the main problem I think. The focus is on duels, and movement. In Gw1, you were nothing without your teamates.

I’m not saying Gw2 is a bad pvp-game. There is a lot of potential, indeed, but maybe for another public.

I’ll explain this to you in GW1 terms.
sPvP = Random Arenas
tPvP = Team Arena with a bit of GvG influence.

No.

You can’t even compare.

I’m done with Gw2 atm. I love pvp game, not arcade one. I know patches and extra modes are coming, but it won’t really change anthything.

I’m glad to see that other experienced player from Gw1 are feeling the same way.

I’ve spent to many hours on Gw1, reaching r9 c2 g5..

I played about 20 hours in Gw2, and i’m already getting borred.

There’s no teamwork, only 10 ppl jumping like bunnies all over the map, mashing their keyboard.

Please guys, tell me i’m not the only one thinking Gw2 ruined Gw1 pvp spirit.

And oh, yes I tried tPvp.
