Mastery Feedback, Why did it have to be EXP?

After some more thought I came to the conclusion that maybe I just expected something different from masteries.

When I first heard about masteries they sounded more like end game progression(the pact commander and legendary masteries are like that). Something that I can work towards after I completed the core experience. The exp grind would be more acceptable that way but thats clearly not what they had in mind.

Maybe I’m the problem and not the system it self?

It just makes me sad because all the art, music, the new specs and the idea behind masteries is really great.
I realise that its way to late to change something on this magnitude at this point but, man, I really hope that the next expansion gets back to what makes this game so great.

Firstly,
I think the new maps are beautiful and amazing.
Although I think 400 Hero Points is to much for the elite specs (250-300 would be okay imo) it’s not my biggest problem.

To my point:

What I dont like and honestly don’t get is why the Mastery system has to progress with exp.
For me, GW2 was always about exploration and finding cool stuff like jumping puzzles etc.

So why do I have to kill enemies to get better at gliding? Why do I have to kill enemies to suddenly understand frogs?

That makes NO sense.

You already have a system that would be waaaaaay better than the exp grind.

Collections.

Make me run around the Jungle to search for 10~ NPC’s that teach me a new language.
Let me search the map for NPC that teach me how to be better at gliding.
Let me collect ingredients that make me resistent to poison mushrooms.

That would make sense. It would let me explore the world. I would have the chance to choose what I want to improve.

Its just not fun to see that Hero Point and spending the next 10-15min to figure a way out to get to it only to be stopped by a poison cloud.
At this point I would’ve been happier with not knowing that there is a Hero Point at this place.

Grinding EXP is just not fun and you should’ve known that.
why would you give us EXP tomes and lvl 20 scrolls if you didn’t know that.

ps: not a native english speaker. be gentle pls

This isnt how i imagined it would be.

straightforwardly it is overcosted. It should cost way less hero points and Maguuma challenges should not give 10. it should be like 200-250 points tops and Maguuma challenges give 5.

I agree.
This would make it much better than the current system.

Gating gating gating.

It’s not a grind if it’s things you would be doing anyways. Besides, many people usually praise this style of play, otherwise referred to as “metroidvania” in which exploring yields new abilities that open up previously unseen areas.

the problem, the way I see it, is not the “metroidvania” aspect. Its more like how its done.

If I run into something I cant get past in Zelda/Metroid I should have the feeling of “I wonder whats behind this rock/wall” etc.

In HoT its more like: yea I want that hero point, I SEE that hero point, but I cant get there unless I level some form of mastery.

there is no aspect of wonder/exploration in regards to HP that are gated behind mastery and that is just bad imo.

I’m even okay with champs guarding that challenge but why does it need a timer?
