So I think based on that you can not say HoT was the problem

It was a large part of the problem. The QQ was immense when it was released. Perhaps not on here where the more diehard fans congregate, but less biased places like mmoc or whatever…the feedback was not great even at the time. Granted, the game had already been branded as “dying” by that point due to the content drought before HoT and it’s never really managed to get rid of the association since, which is also no doubt stopping people from giving it a chance.

I only play GW2 very casually as something else is my main MMO, but personally I think Anet have tried to cater to the wrong audience with moving towards “harder” content (inb4 “erhmagerd its EZ git gud” etc, clearly HoT feedback suggests many felt that way about it). Seems like they antagonised their core customers and that’s what’s led to the decline. Raids in particular – fact is that at least two other MMOs do it far bigger and far better, baffling why they spunk dev time shoehorning it in here. Especially when the community makes it virtually inaccessible with their “meta” weirdness and gear score equivalency thing, its even worse than WoW in that regard.

If they’re gonna persevere with focusing on that, they really need to consider some form of entry level raid finder style thing so that the disenfranchised non raiders don’t carry on feeling kicked in the teeth. At least that way it’s there for them to realistically take part in to some degree if they want to. Better to go back to more casual open world focus though imo, what made the game popular in the first place.

Hope they can turn it around with whatever they’ve got upcoming anyways, game had so much potential.

Who will the next legend be?

Master Togo: The Ritualist.

A Revenant reconnects with their ability to commune with the spirits of Tyria. Legends like Master Togo fought and died heroically to protect the citizens of Tyria and make peace with the races. Inspired by his legend, the Spirits fight as companions to any Ritualists willing to defend this world from evil.

New Weapon: Scepter. A Ritualist gains the ability to use a Scepter, invoking powerful Channeling and Lightning Magics. The Scepter unleashes a constant barrage of Lightning projectiles and hexes a foe with Painful Bond, which causes each spirit you control to deal increased damage to that foe. While foes are distracted by a Ritualist’s spirits, the Ritualist can obliterate foes with the delayed strike of Spirit Rift, which deals devastating area damage and applies vulnerable. Immobilize foes with Binding Chains, so that they cannot escape the wrath of your Spirits and your Spirit Rift.

Profession Mechanic: Spirits. Summon powerful Spirits to act as your turrets. F2, F3, and F4 summon a spirit in place, but each requires 1 pip of Energy to maintain. Pressing the button again will destroy your spirit and cause them to go on recharge.

New Legend: Master Togo. Master Togo’s skillbar consists of powerful Weapon Spells, which function similar to Venoms. Splinter Weapon buffs you and surrounding allies with AoE splash damage for each foe you strike, up to 5 foes, punishing enemies who stack closely. Nightmare Weapon will allow allies’ next 5 attacks to steal life. Your elite skill, Dragon Empire Rage, is not a Weapon Spell, but a powerful burst which allows the Revenant to deal powerful AoE damage within range depending on how many times a revenant struck a foe within a certain amount of time.

This. Please, this.

Convinced it will be Pyre/short bow/ranged condi spec though sadly.

Agree with a lot of what you say. Yes gliding is awesome, hope they can come up with something equally cool next xpac.

Yes the XP/Spirit Shard issue is BS. At the very least, if we are forced to cap all masteries before getting it back then the raid track should not require a boss kill to unlock. Fractal track doesn’t after all. Not sure what the thinking was doing it this way other then a feeble attempt at pushing people to raid, which after 10 years of listening to nerds screaming on WoW just isnt happening here.

Adventures are awful. Just awful. Gating mastery points behind them was a dumb idea. Should’ve left them out completely and put the points behind more achis imo, also possibly made a higher number of points obtainable so people retained some choice of what to do.

I like the concept of the mastery system in general, but too many of the masteries are meh. Last 2 in both Nuhoch and Itzel, most of Exalted, etc. Better to not have them at all than have crappy ones just for the sake of it. Also having them in tracks sucks, being able to choose what to work on would be better.

Otherwise, liked the story, loved the jungle maps (yep even TD), think they got the slight difficulty increase just right. And LS3 has been good so far, although it was way too long in coming.
