Charr Cultural Armor bugs

I have been searching for a set of medium armor for my Charr Thief, and I found some glaring bugs with the cultural armor. The first issue is with the Dover set leggings (Tier 1). If you can’t tell from the picture, there are holes in my character’s fuzzy rump.

In the three four screenshots there are issues with the calves of my Charr’s legs (this is still with the Dover’s set leggings), and the Trapper set feet (Tier 3) seem to be missing a texture and there is a red seam on the sole.

The second to last screenshot is with the Trapper set leggings (Tier 3) to show that the straps don’t disappear into my Thief’s ever fluctuating calve muscles. This holds true for other leg armor as well.

The last screenshot shows another red seam, this time it is on the Trapper body piece (Tier 3).

You left out that sliders would be a waste of time because people will, by nature, set things to be the most advantageous. Even those that try the slider initially will soon set it back once the disadvantage bites them in the butt. So disregard the slider, it’s a silly idea.

Not if the slider has proper min/max values. For instance: the max night time “brightness” could be what it is currently.

Greater darkness at night should be simply universal. No gimmicks, no sliders. What could be interesting is if in WvW you coupled the added darkness with a reduced distance in which you can see the enemy nameplates. Suddenly the night would actually mean more in WvW. (This wouldn’t work with sliders, btw… you can see the enemies at a great distance even before you see nameplates.)

This suggestion is just a quality of life thing though. So either WvW could be exempt from this setting (which they have shown is possible with the number of players rendered in WvW vs PvE).

Something like this, in order to not be effectively a waste of time, should have some actual impact in the game if implemented. Just allowing a slider and the option to make it darker means that it would be rarely used, and not at all in WvW, so there’s no actual benefit to the vast majority. However implementing it universally in a balanced way can have much greater benefits as mentioned in the possible WvW scenario above. Right now we agree that night really doesn’t mean anything in the game. Most of the time I don’t even realize it’s night.

Almost every software (games or otherwise) will have options that almost no one uses. This is a simple fact of software engineering, but time and effort are still invested into these options. Discounting a feature because very few people would use it is unwise.

A change like this doesn’t need to have a huge impact on the game in order to be implemented.

I will use the example of a typo. A typo in dialogue affects no one, and doesn’t break the game balance in any way, but effort it expended to make sure they they are fixed.

These smaller changes aren’t going to get their own release or patch, but they are appended on to larger patches.

Continuing to debate for more sweeping changes to the day/night cycle that could affect game-play in this thread is an exercise in futility. You are trying to argue apple and oranges and decide which on make the best writing tool.

I disagree with the blanket nerf to pet damage for Rangers.

I still dislike that there is not enough separation between PvP balance and PvE balance.

I dislike that the idea of balance is to nerf to the lowest rung on the pole rather than picking a baseline of a working build and bringing the rest of the builds up to par.

In the blog post that talks about the balance changes, Jonathan Sharp articulates why boosting all the other classes would be a bad idea. I recommend reading through it: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/upcoming-skill-and-trait-changes/

Pass. Typical dev doubletalk because it’s too hard. Been seeing that excuse for over ten years….and that approach didn’t work then, and doesn’t work now. They remind me of Sisyphus.

I’m not saying buff the already stable builds, I’m saying bring up the other builds to be on par with the stable ones. In other words, LOGIC.

It would behoove you to read it, but I can understand why you wouldn’t. The general idea that you bring up (buff the weaker builder to be on par with the stronger ones) is a LOT more complicated and leads to “power creep” as described in the blog post.

So keeping player power down keeps content relevant (for PvE any way). I am not sure we could objectively prove either of our positions so we can agree to disagree.

So I was reading a thread in the General Discussion about how the OP did not want to spend money to redistribute their trait points, and that got me thinking. What if a service/item was sold in the gem store to add a “trait build slot”? Basically it would work the same as buying a new bank/bag slot but just for your traits.

I am not sure if this is a bug, but I will post is here with hopes of being redirected to the right place. I have noticed on a lot shoulder armor (mostly medium) tend to be floating distressingly far away from my character’s actual shoulders.

One notable exception to this is the Citadel of Eternity medium armor set. Admittedly I have one of the skinnier body types for the Charr, but the CoE medium armor is nicely placed.

I have attached a screenshot as an example:

I had made a thread in the General Discussion board (here), and from the responses I got (I had hoped I would get more) there is a perception of shady practices with the limited time offers.

So I would like to suggest that the skins that become available through out the living story be available permanently on the gem store for a higher price than when they were initially released.

Senryi.4897

It’s tactic used to create urgency, getting people to spend more in a short amount of time. It also makes these items exclusive to players who are fast enough to buy them.

Exactly. Consumers have been conditioned to buy things that are “limited time only” or “on sale”. JC Penney learned the hard way how conditioned the consumer is when they got rid of sales and just priced the items the same as when they were on sale (instead of 60% off $30 jeans they simply offered them at $12 all the time). Store sales plummeted.

Strangely enough it’s the “hunt” for bargins and “foraging” for specials that still drive us.

So from what I am gathering is that this practice of “limited time only” is actually anti-consumer?

Any actions taken by some one outside of the domain that ArenaNet controls (in-game, forums) can not be banned for actions they take elsewhere.

They have been working on an official LFG tool for a while. One of the main barriers for them with the tool was not having a back end for people joining a group from multiple servers effectively. That was recently resolved with the guesting feature.

I am assuming that you did not play the first game, but if I am wrong than I am sorry for that assumption. The title of the original game “Guild Wars” was a reference to a war that took place before the game started. So basically it provides a nice back drop for the story, and some justified lore reasons why guilds are held in such high esteem.

I think they respond to issues that they have a good idea on how to fix. All of the performance issues are extremely technical, and it would require more time to explain those than is needed to get to the minor fixes. I would rather have ANet know there are issues and be working on it rather than have them trying to explain the issue on the forums.

A Discussion of LFG Tools

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Senryi.4897

Senryi.4897

When creating a LFG tool you really need to consider the purpose for which it is going to be used.

I would generally assume that this purpose is to help players form groups of completely unrelated individuals by decreasing the time the players need to create the group and perhaps also to decrease the effort that a player needs to expend in order to form that group. The purpose of the group finder is not to allow players to more easily find friends (while players are free to try making friends with the people in their group that is outside the actual purpose of the tool).

Generally, a lobby system will not be the ideal system because it will require a lot more time and monitoring by the player compared to a system that automatically creates the party for the players thus allowing the player to continue to grind or craft or whatever it is the player wants to do with ininimal interference while waiting for the group to form.

It has also been my experience that lobby systems wind up functioning exactly like a system that automatically creates groups except it requires far more intrusive maintenance. By this I mean that generally when a player is trying to do something other than monitor the party lobby they will wind up just sending an invite to the first X number of people who enter the lobby without asking any questions or making any inquiries. But in order to minimize the amount of maintenance that goes into forming a party with the lobby system that player will have to keep the full window open which inevitably takes up valuable screen space and makes trying to do anything else while waiting for the group to form very distressing.

In your example I could see how that could be an issue. I ran into a similar problem when playing Final Fantasy XI, but what if the lobby system didn’t show people looking for a group? What if they just listed the lobbies, and not give the lobby-maker the ability to invite? That would solve the problem of blind invites.

So I have been experiencing this bug since launch, but I had figured it was just me moving my mouse too fast. I am now able to reproduce the bug multiple times. When I pan the camera counter-clockwise around my character my mouse spontaneously moves all the way to the left part of the screen when I let go of the right-click button. So, I would pan my camera around in fairly hectic situations to keep enemies in front of me and the mouse would suddenly be on the left part of the screen.

This has been most noticeable on my explosives engineer (grenades are awesome). Even if I would have the right mouse button held down the cast-circle would move to the edge of the screen.

What's with the new loot chests?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Senryi.4897

Senryi.4897

Ya know what fix I want…

Just put all loot in my bags when the mob dies. I’m going to pick it all up anyway. This would make WvW much better as it can be extremely tricky to grab the bags when scrambling for your life. In PvE, it becomes a matter of noticing that you have loot to pick up or not.

I agree with this. Loot can stay on the corpses if my inventory is full, but other than that… is there any reason not to pick up loot? 10c is better than 0c in any case.

Unless “spotting loot” is part of the challenge…

Actually this brings up an interesting psychological factoid. When a person (any person in any situation) opens a container that person gets a positive feedback from their brain. This is a chemical reaction tied to a visual stimuli.

But I digress. I would have to agree that picking up loot (from a functional perspective) is not needed, but it still serves a purpose.

I have seen the shimmer on the ground after the corpse went away, so they had/have something in place that will keep loot there when the enemy’s model goes away. And from what I gather most every one just mashes F whenever they are able to loot, and don’t look for the chests.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Senryi.4897

when I can see chest (looks to me like mines), it can contain any sort of stuff. Sadly, rares I got never came from these chests.

problem with lots of effects, items and other shiny stuff covering DE area (Orr), it very hard to find any drop and eat my fight time.

So rather then these chests may be anything more visible and please let it be for at least 6 min, time to finish event and look for them.

From the Flame and Frost: Prelude patch notes:

In PvE, if a player is awarded loot by killing a creature and the loot is of uncommon rarity or higher, a chest will appear that contains the loot that would previously have been on the corpse. If the rarity of the loot on the creature is lower than uncommon, the loot will remain on the creature’s corpse.

The chests are meant to contain loot above a certain quality, but they are just as random as any other enemy’s drops.

I have seen the loot “shimmer” on the ground where a corpse was, but there is not corpse. So ArenaNet had a system already in place to keep loot around even after the corpse went away.

What's with the new loot chests?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Senryi.4897

Senryi.4897

So in the most recent update(Flame and Frost: Prelude) a new loot chest was implemented. These little chests would drop off of enemies if they contained an item of Masterwork (green text) or higher. I have since been wondering why this was implemented. It seems like it adds an unnecessary step to getting a player’s items off of an enemy. I have also noticed that the chests do not always have the intended items in them. Most of the time I get items like loot bags, or just white text pieces of gear (Example shown in screenshot below).

So if these new loot chests don’t work correctly, most of the time, why implement them, and why even have them in the first place?

Is Overflow...."temporary" in GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Senryi.4897

Senryi.4897

It will always be a thing, because everyone’s either standing in LA idling, or they’re running Fractals.

Which is a shame. The devs made this big beautiful world….and then funneled everyone into LA to run their big new dungeon. Even if they do make improvements to the PvE world, I’m not sure it’ll convince people to leave the Fractals.

Are you sure? Sorry to compare to WoW because it bothers some people, but why can’t GW2 just expand servers in the long run? I mean obviously as the game improves more people will be hurdling in as well little by little and Overflow will be the new home server.

Because WoW can afford to do that since they charge monthly. GW2 can’t because they don’t. They would have to make enough money from just the initial sale of the game to pay all of its employees, reinvest in development of new content, and making sure the current servers stay functioning.

WoW Clone.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Senryi.4897

Senryi.4897

I can’t say “GW2 is a WoW clone”. I can’t that would involve cognitive dissonance, and that usually ends with a bottle of very strong alcohol and a iguana…

Any way the main reason I can’t call GW2 a WoW clone is because a “clone” is an exact copy of the original with no addition added on. It is the exact same. The archetype for MMOs has stayed the same ever since the genre was conceived. “Hey guys, what if we were able to have D&D night with a whole lot of people, like 50?” At which point their friends would laugh at them and then resume playing D&D.

There are mechanics in GW2 that are just plain different form WoW. One of the main ones the OP dismissed so readily was the dodge mechanic.

Now, I would define “gimmick” as an added on feature to add fluff to the game to make it more appealing. This mechanic is central to the combat in the game. Removing this “gimmick” would change the combat dramatically.

Even with the dodge mechanic removed there would still me other design decisions that would separate GW2 from WoW. The most obvious (to most players) is the absence of a structural “holy trinity” system. That is a system wherein all classes can be defined into one of three roles: healer, tank, and damage dealer.

Going from there the next mechanic to differ from WoW would be that the players have no direct control over enmity (monster hate/threat). There are no taunts, and there are no “aggro resets”.

I could go on to talk about how certain weapons hit multiple enemies on a “normal” swing, how ArenaNet changed questing to make it feel more organic, to incentivize (Chrome says this is spelled wrong, BUT I copy-pasted it from Merriam-Webster just to be safe) exploration, to have a more engaging story, to change gear to that the majority of players can attain the highest tier (it has been said in a Reddit AMA that they plan to add Ascended gear to other parts of the game aside from Fractals), and how just freaking fluffy the female charr’s tails are… Er, what?

I would agree that GW2 is a good descendant of WoW, as WoW is a good descendant of EQ.

Pro: cross-server LFG tools remove a reliance on the local server population. Gets frustrating waiting for a group in LA.

Con: Not too good for the community.

Many people argue that the LFD tool on WoW was a contributor to the demise of the community and made the game less enjoyable.

I think GW2 has a chance because abrasive and anti-social behaviour here is not tolerated as well as in other games. (remember those suspensions over offensive names and language? yeah) This means less chances of having a jerk in your party.

To accommodate LFG I think that GW2 would need a wider set of rules and coverage for these abrasive and antisocial activities and some incentives for being nice/helpful/friendly.

The Honour system in League of legends comes to mind – after a successful party/game a party member can be given a honour into what you thought he contributed the most to – was he friendly? helpful? or a high skilled player who had the patience to guide the rest of the group who were flailing around.

Those awarded with certain honours could earn achievements, or use their points on small bonuses like skins or easier access to certain commodities.

I heard that that system actually seems to be working for that community as well.

I don’t doubt that gw2lfg works well, but since they are putting in built in LFG system I would like to suggest that we don’t use a standard matchmaking type system. I think the lobby system will work better because it provides more interaction with the group members, so there is actual communication before the group sets out to do whatever they planned to do.

This could also create a fairly organic party system wherein the purpose of the party can change on the fly, so that the group would not have to disband to tackle a new objective.
