Hey there, I’m Tom, though most people call me Seven. I’m the leader of an NA guild called Vial of Salt [VoS]. We’re a raid-focused guild but you’ll find us in all aspects of PVE/PVP Content including Dungeons, Fractals, and sPVP. Each of our raid teams have their own personality and goals, and we’re always looking for leaders and members to fill raid slots and/or create new raid teams. Outside of raiding as people interested in raiding, or are looking for a tight nit, smaller community of gamers. If you join, you can expect:
- Strong, cross-gaming community
- 4 progressive raid teams, and looking to assist in building more.
- Weekly teaching runs of raid content for new players or friends/family
- Weekly Guild Missions
- Several small but competitive PvP teams
- An atmosphere of respect, and light-hearted conversation
- Opportunity to lead your own team
- Guild-wide events during each Guild Wars 2 holiday, with prizes.
- Active TS3 server, closely linked to our website.
We’re currently recruiting specifically for the following teams:
Team Rainbow (Mon-Wed 8-10PM EST) - As a team we strive for a professional raiding environment. We seek to collaboratively optimize and innovate raiding in Guild Wars 2 by improving individual skill sets, promoting outstanding team cooperation, and setting high standards. This will allow us to deliver nothing less than an enjoyable and effective raiding culture. Click Here for more Details
Team Evolution (Tues-Wed 11PM-2AM EST) - We are a progressive group with a fun blend of personalities. We have a strong direction towards clearing raids and yet we are open to each other’s feedback to make it work. All we need is a chrono/multi-class to complete our awesome team. Subs accepted too. Click Here for more Details
If you’re interested in joining we’d love to hear from you, and not just if you’re interested in raiding! If the currently recruiting teams do not fit your time slot, don’t worry! We try to run weekly guild organized raids, and have plenty more going on. Feel free to check out our website at www.VialofSalt.com, and if you have time take a look at our “About Us” and “Code of Conduct” pages to get a better feel for who we are. If you have any questions reach out to me, Seven.4520, or any other member of our leadership council Kiwi.6924, Pazuzu.6578, Ares.5613.
This is an extremely hard question to answer, and you’re going to get a lot of answers.
But scrap all the “play this profession” stuff. I’m sure i spent more than the first week of my GW2 career rolling alts. playing everything until i found something i actually liked. The professions are all different. WAY Different. Each of them has a unique feel and bring something completely unique to a group. The best advice anyone can give you is to find the profession you like the most. Every single profession will provide something “helpful” to the party in a different capacity.
Make alts. Get a feel for the professions. You’ll make a better decision that way than the advice than any of us.
Edit: Welcome to GW2 !

Honestly, I don’t find the new leveling system to be as gamebreaking as some people let others’ believe. I understand that the people on the forum are typically posting when they have a problem, and not normally to spend time praising an update, but the problem is the level of misinformation spread to new players.
Sure, you’re more restricted until later levels, but it doesn’t really defeat your ability to level or kill things. as the patch also stated, those early early levels go by faster, and they reduced the stats of all vet/normal mobs in the starting zones to accommodate these changes. If anything, I’ve found the early leveling experience to be FASTER than it was.
Is it unfortunate you can’t use the TP at level 1? Sure, but that only effects people who actually have the resources to use it. And if you have the gold to spend, you also have an alt with a bank to xfer the item to the new character. People who are new probably don’t even know to just go to the TP and buy a level 0 blue to speed things up.
For veterans, the “Swiftly bypass this nonsense” is the level 20 scroll.
to be honest, there are many features “veteran” players are oblivious to. If you think that buying things on the TP is the only way to gear yourselves, maybe this new introductory starting system isn’t all that bad.
I’m pretty happy about the changes coming, and yeah, i’m excited to see the impact they’ll have on the game without the speculative “it’ll destroy early leveling” etc etc.
Except there is nothing speculative about it.
It’s speculative until it actually had destroyed something. Besides, you can level pretty quickly with very limited usage of your abilities. Maybe it’ll force people to actually learn what the abilities do. I don’t think it’s as bad as the 2% of people say it is.
There’s a chance it’ll bring an understanding to conservative usage of your abilities, which would be a welcome challenge.

Keep in mind that there are many start zones, and multiple zones for specific level ranges all the way to 80. If you felt obligated to go to WVW or EOTM, then you may have missed this. My first 80 (A long time ago now, mind you), I never even touched WvW Content until i was already 80. Look for things to do. There’s no way you could have done all quests hearts in the zones for your level, explored, killed mobs, Crafted, etc… and not hit 80.
The biggest thing to remember while leveling, is that the level zone doesn’t matter if you’re higher than it. EXP Gains are % based, not a static number of points awarded. You can do all of the starter zones available, and gain a good amount of exp along the way. You may not get great gear upgrades that way, but you can most certainly level. You’re never limited to being forced into the wvw content in order to hit 80. It may be faster, but if it’s not your cup of tea or dont’ like being the target of everyone who wants easy bags, there are other ways.
Pretty sure you have it wrong too. WvW is about fun. Many people don’t even care about the points and just play to kill. Hey, if you are a casual gamer and like the mindlessness of a zerg and running over things, all the power to you! Having fun in a video game is important. But the people coming on here to gloat about their zergs when any 9 year old can do what they are doing (and most likely are part of it)… maybe you need a reality check.
I’m pretty sure the “casual gamers” aren’t the ones in here complaining that there are large “noob” zergs vs “high skill” small groups. I agree that fun is the most important factor when it comes to WvW. My comment wasn’t about fun or not. It was about Zerg or Non-Zerg play styles being irrelevant to the overall objectives of WvW. Silly comments like “needing a reality check” are just that.
People complain about large groups running around all the time. like SvenskNavi said, it’s a war zone. It’s not a coliseum style fight. That’s like Confederates looking at the Union and saying “Lol, You had more people in your zerg, gg noobs”. It’s about objectives. So long as you maintain and acquire those objectives, It doesn’t matter if you did it with 5 people or 50. Points are points, wins are wins. I think people lost track of this important fact.
I’m pretty sure the inability to field as many people as effectively as SF is known as a personal problem. Whining isn’t going to solve your personal problems.
And no, i’m not SF.
Because without something to complain about, you can’t sleep at night. WvW is what you make of it. If you run around doing nothing, it’s probably disappointing. You work together taking objectives, interrupting trade lines, and cutting off enemy forces, it’s pretty fun.
