I’m not exactly sure what you’re talking about. You can use the exact same build in PvP (minus mixing trinkets and food buffs) and get it for free. If you are talking about skins, then I’d suggest to play PvP. The only progression for playing PvP is to get better skins, so why take that away from them? (Plus you already can decide to make the numerous back items PvP instead of PvE)
Hi, I mean that the progress that you make in PvE is usable for small scale PvP skirmishes. You would be able to use the items that you receive in PvE in PvP (Legendaries, etc). Since that’s not possible without imbalancing sPvP there would have to be a PvP arena specifically for PvEers. There would be imbalance because of Ascended vs Rare gear for example, but to me, that makes the game fun and forces me to farm dungeons so that I have a goal.
Ah, you want either a duel arena or a team vs. team arena either in WvW or PvE somewhere. I understand now.
Exactly, WvW alone is a bit too chaotic as the only form of pvp. I would do spvp but that means that the progress I make in pve is for naught (and I like a bit of both).
If I could get more input from the community on this matter that would be great. What do you guys think? Would this be doable? Do you think it would harm the sPvP community?

PvP where your dedication to PvE and the items you get from PvE matters in your strength. Would this work? Would people like this? How much would this damage the PvP community? Basically I’m suggesting one progress that includes everything instead of having to choose either PvE or PvP. Please don’t say that PvEers already have PvP, because WvW is not even close to being the same to sPvP
Ugh. Remembered why I didn’t use swords. When you send out the illusion to charge, sometimes it will bug and slowly jog to the target :P
I am a mesmer, with greatsword and staff. It really sucks for moving around but it’s a lot of fun to fight with (my friend is a thief).
There’s your first mistake. WvW needs mobility. Mobility is very important in GW in general, but it is arguably the most important thing in any WvW build. Not only to get to places fast, but because sometimes you find yourself in way over your head (for various reasons, especially roaming) and you need to get away. Sometimes you need to chase someone. It’s just a fundamental aspect of WvW.
Switch one of those for something with an off-hand focus (I’d recommend sword mainhand). It’ll do miracles. And you should have Blink slotted on your utilities as well (especially if you don’t use focus).
Alternatively just carry a focus in your inventory and use it to run up to places, then switch to the weapon you left out.
Even without those, though, you shouldn’t be taking 10 minutes to reach any point in the map.
Your friend, on the other hand, is absolutely inexcusable. I don’t even know how to make a half-decent Thief build without high mobility. It’s just inherent to the class. Have a shortbow. Tada! You have swiftness on roll and spammable 900 range blinks. That’s before you factor in other potential speed boosts, mobility skills and shadowsteps.
I’ll try switching staff with sword/pistol (cause the greatsword is the legendary so i cant switch it since i spent so much time farming it :p) hope it’s viable. The weird thing is though, despite being so slow I don’t recall players getting away from me often in a chase, and usually when I’d be too far out I invis and hide (if i can ofc) or stack chaos field with the blink from staff so I get distance from pursuers + chaos armor. If what I’ll just carry the items around in the inventory and use them for speed only like colesy suggested (hope I won’t have to do that though because if you get ambushed you can’t switch weapons if i recall correctly)
Today I learned both my friend and I over exaggerated about the same thing.
Ok, so assuming it takes you 10 minutes to cross the map, I strongly doubt that it’s worth waiting 10 minutes for 2-3 minutes of fighting. Maybe it’s not my game after all. Close thread please.
I was assuming 20 minutes was an hyperbole, an assumed exaggeration for dramatic effect, and even then it was excessive.
If you literally mean 10 minutes there is no way in hell any half decent build in WvW will take that long to cross the map. Half of that, maybe. Slower builds at a leisurely, careful, Metal Gear Solid-esque pace.
What class are you using and what build, cause I can’t take anywhere near that long with my Necro, extensively the slowest class in the game.

in WvW it takes 20 or so minutes to run back to where you died (which is mind rottingly boring),
this is beyond an over-exaggeration.

Thanks for the responses! One issue I have with the link you gave, is that for example when I played other games (Cabal Online for example) grinding was no issue for me, I could sit for hours and do that, because there was an ultimate goal which was to get a high level, good items, and go and kill in pvp. Here I don’t have that (I mean there’s WvW but when you die to a zerg it’s not very fun). I don’t see the point for me to grind anymore (like it says in the link) because I’ve already got the armor and legendary on my guy. Dungeons are pretty much only for the tokens for armors too right?
Is there maybe some sort of PVP arena that uses the PVE gear? Or is it in the works?
… I just remembered they added a new level of rarity right?
I stopped playing this game about 8 months ago, and am starting to get back (if I can convince my friends, who also quit).
I have the armor I think I need, max level, a legendary weapon, in WvW it takes 20 or so minutes to run back to where you died (which is mind rottingly boring), and playing pvp is out of the question because I won’t run around in rags again.
So what else can I do other than wait for Jormag to spawn once every 3 hours? Because at the moment the only thing I do is run around in LA like the village idiot or do jumping puzzles.
What would be the point of having a ballistae which are meant to be highly effective against infantry if a trebu can kill characters immediately. Why not make it even more absurd and have trebus kill characters for good – As in you can’t use the character ever again.
Well I never been a pvper so Wvw is just there for me for karma and badges. Anet forces people to participate in Wvw whethere they want or not if you want legendary weapons. So people will be upset over classes that come out of nowhere and own multiple people without no recourse.
I didn’t want to do dungeons, but I was forced to do dungeons to get my legendary. I like to do WvW. Seems fair.
Oh how I have waited for this moment.. Trahearne will be choking on a bag of kittens chanting “blarghblargh Caladbolg blarghblarghlabhrglh” while I look at my character wearing Twilight. Kitten you and your Caladbolg I got a sword of my own now.
I don’t dislike trahearne’s character or the voice acting. I guess expecting a fierce commander from someone who is a scholar wouldn’t make any sense. I want to see more Zojja though her voice acting is excellent

I speak German and Russian and have to listen to poorly adopted accents in movies and games constantly, what of it? If it bugs you so much I hope you can learn to overlook it since I doubt they will fix it.
Would be nice to have music that isn’t always epic. As for me, I have already turned off all sounds, and rarely turn them on. I listen to music from other games while playing gw2.
Edit: Just remembered who composed Fear Not This Night that’s some good stuff – but you never hear stuff like that ingame
I also agree that the spell sounds are lacking when autoattacking (though I have to say that the mesmer blink spell sounds pretty nice). Sound bugs unfortunately cause me not to hear the spells 10-20% of the time during wvw – so i turn these off as well.

In personal story, Priory route:
Regardless of your race and what race you decided to help, Sieran will hint that she’s ready to fall in love, if you are.

I think she means she is ready to go fight, if you are.
Go sell your harvested materials then.
Doesn’t bother me too much I enjoyed it. Zojja is by far the best one imo (rememeber the quest where you walk with trahearne into the tree’s vision?)
Trahearne is a bit meh.. but like I said I’m not too bothered by it.
Is it this you’re talking about? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNPC3Pm8y00
If it is, apparently turning down audio quality to lowest fixes it. I hope they fix it soon though.
When a thread starts off with "Now first off, I don’t have a problem with homosexual people or even characters in the game being homosexual. " Then you know you’re in for laughs.
No, it doesn’t feel forced, and no, it shouldn’t be subtle. If heterosexuals can talk about how they love their partners, then why can’t homosexuals?
Remove Fractals from monthly achievement as it is a pain for me to play in a very ragey environment for hours. It could be fun for other ppl, not for me.
Thanks.
Merging map chats of major cities? Suddenly no one goes to LA to find dungeons anymore.
I guess it’s to combat gold sellers and to keep the company in good shape.
I understand that anet made this as an escape for people who hate farming items all day. But on the other hand when you do finally craft it that feeling is pretty awesome. So I don’t think it is irrational at all to say that it carries emotional value, that’s what made these pieces so great to begin with isn’t it?
I repeat, again, that my issue is that I farmed the legendary. I would not have farmed it if I knew I could buy it. So yes, I did not put it up for sale because why the hell would I do that after what I just went through?
Let me try to simplify it for you since you seem to have trouble understanding:
I don’t want to farm.
Farming is the only way to acquire legendary.
I go farm.
Patch comes out.
You can now acquire legendaries without farming.
This is where you say “yea but you could put it up on the trading post”. Well yea, I could, but the problem that I just farmed my kitten off still remains.
I do look at what I have, and what I have at the moment is a lot of wasted time that I could have spent with my friends instead of farming pixels. So yes, it is sad. It’s sad that I would sit there and farm it at all, and perhaps I should look at my priorities.
Unfortunately not a few days ago I got another sale for this game, so I will most likely go through the story with that person, and then be on my way.
Its easyer and faster to craft your own legendary than buying one for 2000 gold. Dont know why are you complaining here?
Farming karma, farming jumping puzzles, farming gold, farming skill points. Its still all the same.
No one cares how you got your Legendary weapons, everyone just cares that you have one, even if you bought them from TP for 2000 gold.
I see no reason to complain they are soulbound on use. They are just shiny most expensive weapons. Crafted weapons
And btw I am now halfway to craft my second legendary weapon and one of the reasons I love Legendary weapons is to differentient myself from other players. There are thousands of players running in same gear, same class but having one of the most expensive weapons that no one else has is one of the biggest factor why someone want them.
Much easier to chill at trading post and make money and go to the cinema than to sit and grind karma and items all day. That’s the reason why I’m complaining. This issue appeared literally on the day I crafted my legendary, so surely you can understand why I’d be upset about all that time wasted.
Normal player play the game for fun. If playing TP is more fun to you than doing dungeons, WvW, events just do it.
I do rather play the game not TP so thats why I craft it, not buy it. You can buy it, I dont mind.
I would have if I wasn’t under the impression that they are account bound. In fact, in one thread a player said that when he crafted it, it was not possible to be traded.

Personally I adore how them going up on the TP deflates the egos of folks who thought their shiney made them special.
Get a legendary because you think it looks good on YOU, not because you think it makes you look better than OTHER PLAYERS.
You’re completely missing the point. People’s “egos” are not deflated because they realize that their shinies don’t make them special. We are hurt because all that time spent into the game could have been achieved by simply trading on the trading post and using our spare time for other things. Honestly, no one cares about you enough to get a legendary just to rub it in your face. People get legendaries because they look good, not to impress others. Stop being paranoid.
That is what he said. lmao
He’s implying that people would get legendaries for any other reason than to make themselves look good. What I am saying is people don’t give two kittens about anyone else and do this anyway. His point is that people would get legs them to impress him and to put themselves on a pedestal. How could you possibly miss that?

Well this thread is depressing. I could’ve just chilled playing trading post and being logged out half of the time to get my legendary. So much time wasted.
I was fighting a thief on my low lvl mesmer, and he downed me in 2 skills.. thats ok and all. But when im in downstate i wait for my nr 2 skill and the thief went stealth, i could press my other skills like heal etc but not my nr 2 skill. First i thought i was bugged, but 5 min later the same thief did it again.
How is this possible?
With the 2nd spell I believe you need to have something targeted in order for it to work. So if the thief goes invis look around maybe there are some mobs nearby and try to use those instead.
well then, congrats on your new built legendary. when i built mine like few months ago, there was no option
Thanks. That’s why I do think it’s some kind of mistake. Anet might have changed soulbind on use to be sellable but didn’t exclude legendaries.
because the item is soulbound even if it says “soulbound on use” there is no way you can put it up on TP. so primarily speaking, its binded to your character.
on my own experience after i forged my own legendary, i tried selling it. but in no way i am given an option to sell it.
Is that why I have the option to sell it? http://i.imgur.com/xAv7u.jpg
Not two days ago did I get all the mats for my own twilight and then this happens? I hope this is some kind of glitch or I will shed tears for going through all that.
I’m also looking for unlocked temples.
Don’t really care about mounts, I enjoy it as it is now. Grounded mounts would be acceptable, but flying mounts are something I don’t want to see. When you’re flying on a mount you miss so much of the world, which has some really beautiful things to look at.
