Make sure your comp is using your ATI Radeon HD 7670m since this is the better vid card (unless running on battery, you may opt for the lesser card).
The hd 4000 is your integrated card and the 7670m is your discrete card.
Btw, how old is this laptop? It’s possible it just overheated and shut down; a good internal fan cleaning may be in order.
This laptop is roughly 3 months old. I’ve tried running the game with both cards separately. Same error. :/
Given the specs, this laptop should play the game on medium and some settings that are not power intensive on high or even max so I’m not sure what’s up with it. (Also graphic intensive games don’t compare to GW2; CPU intensive games do) but that i5 should make short work of the game, but as for the laptop shutting off when you try to play it? That’s something I’ve not seen.
I have managed to get in-game before. I’m level 3 at the moment. It just suddenly stopped working. O_o
Hi everyone,
I recently bought Guild Wars 2 and after entering my details in the launcher and hit play. Upon the game startup, without warning. My laptop just shuts off. The fan whirs loudly for 2 seconds and the power cuts out.
I’ve played other graphical intensive games on this laptop with no problem. (Medal of Honor, NSF Most Wanted…).
So far I’ve tried re-installing the game and running it in compatibility mode for Win7, WinXP and as an administrator. And in terms of 3rd party software — there’s nothing running in the background.
My specs are:
Intel Core i5-3210M 2.50GHz
8GB RAM
64 Bit Windows 8
HD 4000 Graphics (Main)
ATI HD Radeon 7670m (Secondary)
Any help towards this issue will be much appreciated.
Many thanks in advanced.
Yeah I was going to suggest starting with a clean install of the client and going from there. Just for testings sake could you disable the descrete video card and try launching with just the Intel igp?
As far as UAC goes and compatibility mode you shouldn’t have to touch those. I have the game running on Vista 7 and 8 systems and personally haven’t had to toy with it.
Do you have much running in the way of 3rd party software? (anti virus, driver suites etc) I’d try disabling these as well to eliminate them as possible culprits.
I’ll try running with juts the intel GPU after it installs. At 77% now.
In terms of third party software, I have nothing running other than the standard component software (Synaptics pointing device, Catalyst control centre & Cool sense).
Hey, sorry delayed response. I re-installed it and everything works fine. Oh well. Thank you
Strange…

Can you clarify what you mean by shuts down? I’m assuming it’s an outright power loss correct, not a formal shutdown?
If you can provide us with more details on your system that would be a good start. It’s quite odd that the trial ran and now it won’t.
It’s a power outage. I may as well just take the battery out. I’ve also tried running in compatibility mode for Win7 and Run as admin. I’m re-installing it as I type this.

Thanks again
Hello everyone,
I downloaded the trial version of guild wars 2 to see if it works (which it did) and I then purchased the key from elsewhere and registered it to my account.
Instantly after doing-so. I ran guild wars 2 launcher. Logged in. And as soon as I hit the “Play” button. The launcher minimizes. And my laptop just shuts down.
I can play a multitude of high end games and my laptop never begins to overheat so i’m certain that isn’t the issue..
Any help on this is much appreciated. Many thanks
