GW-GW2-linking issue: unable to link accounts
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: SingularityEclipse.4796
I don’t know if this will help everyone, but I went through a bit of an ordeal helping my wife link her accounts. She loved gw2 and wanted to earn some rewards, so we got her gw1. Having bought it through NCSoft, the login ended up being an @ncsoft one.
The complication came when using the gw2 site. She logged in, went to Link Accounts, and it asked for her credentials for gw1. Now, my memory is fuzzy on the next part, but what I remember is that it asks you to log in again, and we kept putting the same login in (I think it was the gw2 login info) and it wouldn’t work. But then, at some point, after contacting support and getting nowhere, we tried that last login with the other account (I think it was the gw1 info) and suddenly the link happened.
Sorry if that’s a big vague, I just remember it appearing that one login should be used, but the other was actually the right one to enter. Hopefully that helps (instead of making it even more confusing.)
All really good points in here. I think we have strayed way too much into the “i’m the hero/I’m just one person” part of the discussion though. It was a very minor point of my original post. The majority of my post was about how the dramatic parts of the story line need to be on par with the comedic parts. That was mostly what this was about.
Good point, and I completely agree. The Han Solo comparison really hit the nail on the head. My family and I all stopped killing Scarlet because we couldn’t take the forced (and seemingly out-of-place) shoehorned love story embedded in the instance. However, the follow-up in the bar where Braham keeps replying to Taimi with “Uh huh” was so classic. I went and re-watched it several times for the laughs.
Of course, I’m a parent of 3 kids, one a talkative little 5-year old girl, so I could relate to the humor.
I agree that we don’t each have to be the main hero. That sort of scenario worked okay in gw1. There, I ran the entirety of gameplay with just heroes and henchmen, so I felt like I was central to the story. Easy, when every combat area was an instance so I’d never see anyone else.
In gw2, the entire game seems to be about the massive community. And, while it’s different, it’s also very cool. In a world where we can, quite literally, see hundreds or thousands of other players, the sense of community-driven story fits fine.
Also, I’ll be honest, I don’t care which NPC is able to recognize my accomplishments. That doesn’t mean anything. I think other players being able to recognize accomplishments is way cooler. This already happens with things like the map star, titles, and even some reward items (although this is becoming less meaningful as people are able to circumvent reward requirements through PvP which should have its own reward system, but that’s a whole other topic.)
So, in the end, coming away with a title you can display is actually pretty rewarding. Look, I was there, I did X. And it displays your accomplishments for real people to see.
Maybe, instead of having ridiculously-difficult titles attached to a portion of the meta that isn’t the main storyline, we could get a title for living-story participation at certain segments. This “proves I was there” without having to code scripts for NPC interactions that are completely void of long-term meaning.
For that matter, how about an “inspect” feature that, instead of inspecting gear or skills (which would be terrible) we could inspect certain account accomplishments?
I know this isn’t all related to story-telling, which is what you’re looking for. But it’s my take on the value of the story interactions versus the long-term title-type rewards.
You have to understand, too, that the value of the shredded rag is not limited to its conversion to jute scraps. There are several elements at work that can contribute to the value staying high:
1) The actual, tangible value of the salvaged materials, as discussed.
2) The RNG gamble (I might get lucky and get more than average.)
3) The achievement points gained by salvaging (daily plus repetitive.)
So, if you’re an achievement point junkie, you might be willing to pay slightly more for the option of salvaging them yourself, just because it’ll contribute to more than one cause.
So much hype over this, and it’s been live for how long now, yet no one can access it, and you can’t even let us know if you are doing anything to fix it?
I counted 4 dev responses in this thread as I read through to this point. Were you expecting them to bring chocolates to your doorstep and apologize?
Nevermind, just got a toon in, finally. And boy, it’s the least-populated I’ve ever seen Lion’s Arch.
Yeah, tried to get to Edge of the Mists, hung up on the loading screen. Now when I try to load ANY character, regardless of their map, I get a Network Error. Blah.
i can confirm no longer being able to warp out of LA and being poted back into la cause of contested area
even tho the warp point specified can not be contested(different town)
also some one told us to try guest ina different server
fine and all
but thats not how you SOLVE things
this is not a ow just ignore it forum section
its a BUG forum section
meaning we report things and then it gets fixed
not over looked
That being said, it was a useful suggestion to those needing to deal with it in the meantime, while it was being fixed. The guy who suggested it can’t fix the problem, but he can help with a temporary solution to ease the pain.
Anyway, seems to be working again for me. Anyone else still having issues?
To add to my previous post, I was able to observe LA for a bit, and it’s definitely server lag related. Takes up to a minute for a vendor to respond. People are running against walls for a while before suddenly disappearing. Chat takes forever and a half. So it seems to be in how long it takes the server shard to relay information back to our clients, not just an issue with waypointing or using gates.
Confirmed here. We can’t use the Asuran gates at all within Lion’s Arch on Dragonbrand. First noticed when my wife tried to have a new toon visit another starting city, and yep, sure enough, can’t use those gates.
I know they said they had Scarlet planned out as early as the elections, but what they didn’t say was that she was necessary to both sides. Maybe there were two villains planned, and Scarlet was the one assigned to that arc, while another with a whole different living story arc was planned in the event of a win by Evon. never know… but that might mean that Scarlet would not be in an Abaddon fractal.
It might also mean that we’ll see that arc next, with an eventual Abaddon fractal.
Or maybe I’m just hoping someone will still give us an Abaddon fractal.
Now, for my two cents’: While spamming cannon shots at Zhaitan was lame, I’d be perfectly willing to do the same to Scarlet. For some reason I just relish the idea of blasting her with a large cannon.

Guild Wars 2 - crash... again and again

Constant crashing after a few minutes of play on one PC with a lower-end graphic card (550ti) while having no issues on computers running 660 or 670 cards. Changing graphic options does not help. I would attach a report, but I don’t even get the option to create one, nor is one automatically created in the documents/gw2 folder or the client program folder.
Okay, I’ll admit, I didn’t read the entire 8 pages to see if this already came up, sorry, searching didn’t help, but…
Regarding the concerns mentioned over and over about being able to protect a portion of money from being spent, could the new wallet just implement a savings/checking sort of design? The wallet could be made to have “spendable” gold and “savings” gold, with the savings portion unspendable but easily transferable to spendable on demand. That would resolve the need for personal guilds, investment in “gold storage” type items, etc. And I bet it would be fairly easy to implement.
Something to consider, devs?
I guess I tend to be forgiving toward Trahearne. He’s a plant-person, so personality blandness, well, maybe that’s just life as a Sylvari. Sometimes we end up working with people we don’t like.
There was definitely SOME level of emotional attachment in certain threads. My wife had to be coaxed back after the death of Tybalt. The same emotion doesn’t seem to be found in the other mentors, and I think it just comes down to Tybalt having the semblance of personality with his quirky passion for apples. And to any devs reading this, that’s exactly what makes a good character. Passion about anything, and sometimes ESPECIALLY passion about something besides the main story.
I agree that the Personal Story was really more like a hundred tiny, forgettable interactions. Contrast that with the missions in GW1, which were much more epic, and often reached a climactic ending within each mission. You had to get through enemies, sometimes put together pieces of a puzzle, sometimes last through waves of enemies, sometimes fight a boss at the end. Sound familiar? All those things happen in GW2, but they happen in small doses, and they happen over and over and over. In GW1, each mission was massive, distinct, and unique. I only played through Prophecies maybe twice in its entirety, but I remember every mission, because they were all unique. And that was one of the keys in their epic reputation.
They didn’t specify that you’d simply lose the stat. It’s fair speculation that it’ll be migrated into some other stat. Some folks will like the change, others will hate it. But “change” is the nature of the game, and has always been promoted as a mechanic of the game.
There are plenty of posts already complaining about it, but the fact is, we don’t know what’s going to happen. We do know, however, that the concept of not having to choose between being more powerful or having higher magic find is generally considered to be a decent shift.
I, too, have a lot invested in MF gear, including ascended gear. In the end, though, it’s just a game. The minute I decide I can’t have fun because of changes, I’ll stop playing. I don’t feel like this is going to be something that ruins my fun. It’s just going to be a shift in perspective, and maybe we’ll end up lucky in the end, and receive some new stat that will take the sting out of it. They do imply that they’re looking for a way to do just that…
I’d like to revive this. We just tried it again, and we couldn’t even get far enough to find out if the bug is fixed or not. We get to the cutscene right after boarding the ships (the fly-by to show the scene) and the UI still shows over the top of the cutscene. Then, things get weird and we can’t loot. Shortly after killing all the pirates on the first ship, we both lost connection from the server. It wasn’t an internet problem. I then had my wife try again without me helping. The same thing: The UI overlays the cutscene, and then shortly afterward, the server connection is lost.
For reference, the UI overlay issue was present before the recent “fix” so that’s not a new thing.
I don’t think it’s limited to the “after May 28 update” time, as my wife has been stuck on this for a little while now.
If you are listening, please reset the rewards back to the way they were in January.
My recommendation would be to keep the rewards, but remove the ability to receive multiple chests by guesting. If you can only get one of each chest per day, maximum, then the guesting would stop, and it would accomplish what Arenanet was hoping to accomplish, namely to encourage people to try a variety of world events. And frankly, since we can get level 80 rares from level 15 world events, there’s still plenty of opportunity to collect some goods. Farmers can go to the dungeons, where there’s greater risk vs rewards. It’s what they did before the dragon chests became such easy money.
Same on dragonbrand. Everything grinds to a near-halt. The dragons themselves don’t even go through their animations, and everyone is experiencing a lag in their attacks, to the point that it takes several seconds for an attack to register (and the adrenaline on a warrior highlights this attack speed issue) and most special attacks (2 – 5) take several attempts to register with the server. I was just attempting to fight Tequatl and near the end it completely hung and I lost connection. Of course, by the time I can get back, I manage one hit and no chest, no reward.
And where are you collecting all this data about currency conversion?
How are you able to know this about Anet? How do you know they actually convert € to $ ?
Given that they are based in the US, it’s a fair bet that excess profits beyond their local expenses go back to the US. I don’t know it for certain, but it’s how most companies work. There’s no point in leaving money sitting overseas.
Okay, I skimmed a bit, but one thing I didn’t notice addressed in this was the conversion fees. I deal with this in an international sales job. We not only have to account for the VAT, but we also pay a small fee to get the funds converted into US dollars to bank them here. If their fees are anything like the ones I deal with, then yes, 10 euros will end up being roughly 10 dollars after you back out the VAT and the conversion fees. All in all, the difference will be negligible enough to just round it off. And that rounding will lend some protection in the event of fluctuations in an unstable economy. Any retailer looking to protect themselves from loss in an unstable global economy does the same thing. The companies who don’t collect for conversion fees are the ones who can afford to leave all the income in the regional bank for paying regional salaries and making regional investments.
I second that. Same thing, I had never tried dungeons before. Tried map group requests to no avail. Found groups through gw2lfg.com (there’s also an android app, maybe others) and have had very positive experiences. In the space of a week I was able to complete all my dungeon stories.
Game client unreliable - constant crashing
in Account & Technical Support

We have 3 computers for the family to play, and while the 64-bit system rarely crashes (maybe once a week) the two 32-bit systems are crashing multiple times per day. Typically when traveling into a city, but sometimes in the middle of a big event.
I turned camera shake off on one of the computers, and that computer’s client hasn’t crashed in the last two days, while the one with camera shake on continues to crash.
Anyone else want to check if turning camera shake off really makes a difference?
I personally think something has changed with new drops. I don’t do Fractals, but I do salvage a lot of rares and exotics. After the last update, I have not received a single ecto from any salvage of an item looted after the update (roughly 60 salvage attempts.) I was on the verge of asking around if maybe I was just bugged, but then I changed armor and salvaged my old armor (bought pre-update) and lo-and-behold, I was getting 2-3 ectos per piece.
Anyway, I salvaged a few other pieces from pre-update, same effect. But for new rare and exotic drops, I’m not getting ectos anymore.
Don’t know if this helps the discussion or not, but I’d like to see if anyone else is able to duplicate the results, and find out if it’s a related issue.
A couple of weeks ago I set myself up with a MF armor set to test the difference for myself. From having no bonuses to having +168% (after food) here are my impressions:
1) I agree that chests seem to be unaffected. I didn’t know that until reading this post, but it was pretty obvious over several dozen dragons that the average chest take was the same. I keep fair records of the list value of the items, and the average didn’t shift.
2) I still get plenty enough “low-end” drops, so I don’t see that MF gets you beyond that. Maybe it just lowers your chances of the low-end. I did end up with fewer junk items, but it would take more than a couple of weeks to verify this is as intended.
3) My drop rate of greens went much higher. I was only getting 1 green a day at best before changing, and within 10 minutes of the change I had looted 3 greens. Since then I’ve continued to see loads of greens. Too bad greens are virtually worthless these days. Still, the vendor value is higher than what I’d been getting.
4) I haven’t seen any change in regards to anything higher than greens. In other words, while I was getting zero rares or exotics, I am still getting zero rares or exotics. Two weeks might not be enough time to tell, but since I’ve never gotten either outside of dragon chests, I have no basis for knowing anything about the rare and exotic impact.
Hope that all helps. I’m interested to see how the recent fix will impact perceptions, since apparently some folks had bugged loot tables anyway. Maybe that was contributing to the apparent lack of MF effectiveness?
Just adding my vote to get this fixed. We have 4 players in the house here (yeah, we’re that crazy) and all share computers. It sure would be nice to use the command line arguments to make things easier, but the trading post issue is too big to ignore.
