I thoroughly enjoyed the whole event. The scavenger hunt was a lot of fun, and the two server-wide battles I was able to attend (the first and last) were great fun. I love the idea of one time events that open new content in the world, and bring so many players together to achieve a goal.
Suggestions for improvement:
1. These one time events should last longer, especially phased events of this magnitude. This event could’ve easily started this weekend and extended through the next.
2. Beef up the servers! I didn’t experience any lag, but I had a lot of guild mates lag so badly that they were unable to play through the whole end fight. Some DC’d. These are things you should expect and be prepared for, especially for something this huge, and on a free weekend.
Keep improving, ANet, and please continue to give us such exciting content!
If the storm knocks out power for a large number of players, there’s a good chance ANet will extend or run Act 4 again. They’ve done it before in GW1 due to the same issue.
Ok, let’s see if this works. Sorry for the bad resolution – I can never remember how to screenshot without the UI. Anyway, I think my Necro is totally ready to rock Halloween!
And for everyone who’s wondering what recipes I used, none were Halloween specific; they were regular crafting recipes (I thought I said that in my original post). I’m sorry if you felt I was being misleading, Leiloni. I thought I was clear when I said “regular” crafting recipes. I just wanted to make the point that you don’t have to have event items to look the part, or have fun.

I would share screenshots if I had any idea how to go about doing it on this forum :p . Can I post images in this forum?
I see a number of posts comparing GW1 events with GW2, and I’m really surprised that people are saying the GW2 event falls short. Especially less than 12hrs into the event. Let’s do a little comparison between the GW1 Halloween event, and the GW2 Halloween event.
GW1 – Decorations
GW2 – Decorations
GW1 – Special loot drops from foes
GW2 – Special loot drops from foes
GW1 – Costume Brawl – free access, limited to one instanced area/arena
GW2 – Costume Brawl – free access in limited area, open world access when a costume is purchased through the gem shop.
GW1 New content in the form of quests
GW2 New content in the form of dynamic events and jumping puzzles (and who know what else as the week goes on)
GW1 Halloween hat acquired through farming candy corn for a token
GW2 Halloween hat acquired at no cost through gem store by clicking a button. Oh, you have to click twice.
GW1 No event themed weapon skins
GW2 A variety of event themed weapon skins that can be temporary or permanent, depending on how much work you put into getting them. Crafted skins are tradable.
GW1 No minis
GW2 Special event themed minis purchased through the gem shop.
I don’t even know where to begin with crafting and character customization. Using inexpensive materials that I’ve gathered, and using regular crafting recipes (nothing from the Mystic Forge) I’ve crafted awesome armor and weapons that are perfect for my Necromancer (this is her Holiday, after all ). Add in the robust dye system, and I have no desire for costumes or special skins for her. She looks wicked!
Eventually, I’ll probably get the bow for my ranger, but I don’t feel the pressure to do it RIGHT NOW! As the week plays out, it’ll give me a pretty good idea of what I need to do to get it, be it this Halloween, or next. Not having the bow skin in the first day of the event certainly isn’t going to stop me from enjoying the rest of the week.
I’m sure there’re are more ways to compare, and I’m sure there are a few things from GW1 that I prefer over GW2, but overall, I’m really liking this GW2 event. Seems like there’s a lot more to discover and enjoy.
We never saw the body. And why in the world would we believe anything that lying sack of Mouth had to say?
Personally, I think Tybalt is out there “selling apples” all the way across the Crystal Desert in preperation for our next big dragon battle.
I’m experiencing this on my scepter wielding Necro, and once in a while on my Ranger (can’t remember if I was using a shortbow or an axe). Sometimes the character rolls in place, and sometimes the character rolls away, but rubberbands back to the foe.
Technically, I’m sure open world PvP is possible, but I doubt it’ll ever be implemented. For one thing, it’s lore breaking. PvE is designed around player cooperation, not competition – everyone working together to defeat the different threats in each area.
ANet has provided cooperative PvE, competitive PvE/PvP (WvW), and competitive PvP; I think that’s a nice balance for the majority of players.
The developers have said they will be introducing dueling in a content update, but I wouldn’t expect it to be “open world”, but instead held either in The Mists, or in one of the arenas.
Yes, well worth the money I’ve spent (DD edition, plus a few bucks in the Gem store). I have a recent lvl 80 and a few lvl 25-30s, all exploring different parts of the world and doing different things.
I feel that ANet has a provided a great game. Once all the tweaks have been made and bugs have been squashed, they’ll have an awesome foundation for all the additional content they have planned.
Is there a reason that some merchants who carry gathering tools don’t necessarily carry tools appropriate to the area, but instead, seem to carry tools geared for the player level?
I just started working on Caledon Forest with my lvl 80 character and I realized I only had Mithril tools in my pack. I went to the merchant that carries bags, salvage kits, and tools, and she was only selling Mithril and Oricalcum gathering tools. I don’t mind using tools above the area level (in fact, I usually only carry Darksteel, Oricalcum, and occassionally Mithril), but I can’t see using Oricalcum or Mithril on copper and soft wood.
Is this a bug, or is this the intention?
I ended up going to Lion’s Arch to pick up the tools I needed, but I really prefer to use the merchants in the area.
No, not bad, especially if you don’t have any experience with guilds.
If I understand what you’re describing, I believe this is what guilds are for.
