You shouldn’t be worried about Deadeye not being super faceroll in WvW, because it will be, trust me. It’s the Thief class after all, just watch.

For oh so long us die hard WvW players have been asking for these things:
1. Fix server/skill lag.
2. Seperate or proper WvW class/skill balancing.
Not gliding, it’s so far from a priority as it comes.
Last update did nothing to improve the gameplay either, it just gave us even more boxes to click and where did those pve players go when they realized it would take some time to farm their shinies?
I guess we should be thankfull for any attention at all but please Anet most of us care about the core issues not fancy stuff a minority was asking for.
You guys created something absolutley beautiful with WvW which was at its absolute best pre-HOT please listen to us veterans.
I don’t have a hard time fighting Thieves when I’m playing my Engi, Guardian, Ranger, or Necro. Thieves are at a disadvantage against these 4 professions, using their most common builds. But apparently, being weak to half, and strong against the other half – is too much. Thieves have to become weak to all before some of these crybabies are satisfied.
There used to be a time when I would give constructive feedback to people’s complaints. But it is so apparent that the majority of people complaining about Thieves on this forum haven’t played a Thief in WvW, and are basing their whines on pure speculation and bias – there is no use in trying to show them why their opinions are so skewed and mostly incorrect.
They’re only coming here to look for other ill-informed forum-goers to complain in tandem.
I got 3k hours roaming as a thief in WvW since launch. Ever since HOT came it ruined the class, made it incredibly forgiving and easy to play (assuming marauder d/p DA/TR/DD Unhindered combatant sigil of draining hurr durr). I had to stop playing it since it no longer was a challenge, i could kitten anyone down with next to no effort, even DHs (simply switch mainhand dagger to pistol before engaging and unload/dodge spam ezpz). These kinds of builds are just too powerfull and unsportsmanlike.

They can also choose to use Channeled Vigor instead of Withdraw for extra endurance regen, add to that Brawler’s Tenacity (trait) for even more on Bandit’s defence and their heal!
Assuming a thief runs d/p DA/TR/DD you have easy stealth on demand. As Cynz above said, most of the damage comes from dagger autos these days, so the initiative spend on heartseeking 3-4 times through a black powder don’t hurt the thief that bad.
I agree with TS, thieves in wvw right now are the definition of a class that is overtuned. In fact with HOT and the Daredevil the class (again, assuming d/p UC stealth&dodgespam headshot sigil of draining hurrdurr thief) became real easy to play and one of the most forgiving builds in the game, you can literally get away with anything, If you want a challenge as a thief go d/d solo, hell even go zerker shatter mes.

You see them everywhere because they are hilariously good at the moment, haven’t played ranger in awhile but I have alot of experience as a thief. The thief, (daredevil) is by far the most forgiving class to play and have alot of traits and utilities that are somewhat.. overtuned. It is really easy to pick up and become effective with. Try roaming as a power mesmer and notice the difference in effort.
I ran into my first d/d bless blossom thief last night in some time while I was on my p/p staff power thief.
The highest bleed tick he got on me was 529. I was never in any danger. I am traited EA and PR along with trickster using Haste and RFI and withdraw as heal. SOA is also on the build , which I never had to use and i have an added cleanse using the elite given I am in leadership runes. UC traited out of DrD. The Regens out of the Acro at 100 percent uptime kept me at near full health as I was able to dodge as many of his attacks as he mine. The Condition builds RAW attack damage was hitting me harder then were the condition ticks as he could rarely get a stack of any magnitude going.
This particular build I use has Crit chance 85+ percent when fury on. 200 percent plus crit damage. Might stacks durations doubled once applied. Full time swiftness and vigor. Near full time regen and fury. All but immune to Immobs Chill and cripple. 3 different stun breaks.
Base power low at 2200 but this made up for with always running might stacks along with close to 90 percent of all attacks being a crit.
I even peeled off a sigil that cleansed on the build as I had more than enough in the way of cleanses and will likely peel off more yet . There still potential cleanses left on the table for other builds such as the cleanse on s/X 2 , Shadows embrace, GI , Lyssa Runes, Sigils like cleansing , generosity and purity and of course Shadowstep.
Thieves in general are also hilariously OP. You have shadowstep and SOA to cleanse with. Try Power mesmer, you’ll be forced to build into Inspiration which will grant you way less damage, even while in zerker gear. This coming from a player with 3400 hours on a thief in wvw. They are simply a bit too good at the moment.

Condition builds are hilariously overpowered in WvW. Anyone who says otherwise is just trying to defend the condi build they are using. Condition builds allow you to stack 3k armor, 20k + hp while still doing GREAT damage. It’s just insane. No cleansing in the game will be able to deal with it. /Sadfacepowermesmer
The main problem with condition based builds is that they often allow the player to stack up heavily on defense while still being able to dish out great damage. Power builds are glassy, condition builds are often tanky. There you go.
Regular WvW player since launch. And nowadays WvW is all I do. Period. Every day.
I cant say that I care much for the rewards. I think I got 7 sets of ascended armors and asc weapons for all chars to go with them. As do a lot of us. Almost everything crafted (I never get good loot so I make my own things, easy solution). What else do I need?
I got no need for a WvW backpiece or flashy armor with the exact same stats that I already got several sets of. I just want fun fights on the borderlands.
This might shock some but a lot of us already got all the equipement we need and thousands of gold in the bank never being used on anything else than food or siege. Or maybe a nice new skin once in a while to fresh things up a bit.
We just want a good balance between classes and a healthy population. Then leave everything else to us players.
But the last thing we need, is something that make every pve player that never play WvW regularly to flood all borderlands for months. Some of us work all day and usually come home to play around prime time. And then stay up late playing.
Luckily I got a life so I will do something else, I wont be affected much by this. I got other games to play if I want and friends and family to hang out with. But I got no time for queing for 2 hours after coming home from work. So I am very much excluded atm. Nice, after putting down so many thousands of hours.
Fantastic post, could not have said this better myself. WvW is all I do too. I log in, press B and select a border and off I go.. well used to. Now its more like Log in, press B, facepalm. Once I get into the borders after an hour in queue I’m met with messages in team chat “omg where are my rewards!! hurr durr !!”
Just like you I have had my ascended sets crafted, years ago, and am in no need for shiny new skins. All I care about is the GAMEPLAY, which was not improved at all in this patch. This patch did absolutley NOTHING for veteran WvW players. Just another carrot on a stick to get more people into WvW, mission accomplished Anet.
The rewards from WvW were already too much with the reward tracks.. frigging loot boxes, loot bags, loot pouches, loot chests coming from all directions popping up on the screen. If you ask me, and alot of my WvW buddys you could remove ALL rewards from WvW and actually work on improving the quality (yes quality not quantity Anet) of the gameplay.
Start with improving the lag issues, now that is something that would attract new players and keep the old ones from leaving. Peace.
Edit: Current situation now is that reward seeking vultures that only care about how their characters look and not the game mode/gameplay are keeping WvW veterans out of their game due to queues. It’s messed up.

In WvW there is a queue system. Now that Anet adds yet another carrot on a stick people are flodding to the borderlands to get shiny skins. Judging from this thread and also tonights team chat people only seem to care about “their rewards” and not the actual gameplay. This patch was nothing but a lame attempt to get more people into WvW but instead of improving the quality of the gameplay Anet adds some skins to attract people.. its so cheap imo. Once the people who only care about cosmetics get what they want, they’ll most likley leave.. I hope I’m wrong though.
This is my point exactly, if wvw is about playing the game mode and enjoying it, then why stick a reward so far out of reach. Why not lower the requirement so it’s reasonably obtainable, gets people interested in the game mode and if the game mode speaks for itself, after getting said reward, players will continue to play it for the enjoyment of it.
Well since WvW needs alot more people the game mode doesn’t seem to speak for itself. It needs improvement, especially the lag issues. But instead of working on fixing the cause Anet slaps some bandaids on a severe burn wound.
People, this game is throwing out items and rewards left and right, no matter what you do, PVP/WVW/PVE. It’s more than enough as it is.

Rewards only make a game mode interesting to a certain niche of player, gameplay is what actually makes a game prosper.
Frankly the people who play games primarily for “rewards” are a tumour on gaming and one of the reasons the MMORPG genre is in the state it is.
I couldn’t have said this better myself. This patch did absolutley nothing for actual gameplay. I already have several ascended sets and legendaries from years before which I had to do lots of PVE to get (which i really didn’t like). The only thing this patch did was to bring in massive queues of noobs who are there for skins. Maybe 1% of the PVE people coming in will stay, and for that I am happy, but the rest are just vultures. Go play Blizzard games for items and grind. Peace!

Fix the lag already Anet.. it has been a few years now.. Nobody cares about new shiny outfits and items. Go play Blizzard games for that. Just fix the lag and people will love you for it i promise.

Getting ragewhispers is like the best thing ever. i’ve been enjoying it for years lol part of the reason why i even play WvW.

Experience with thief: Around 900 hours, but mained shatter mesmer for 1,5k hours after that until the last patch came out and made mesmers too easy to play all of a sudden. Now im back to thief again after a long time and want to learn more. kek!

Heya, this is the build I often switch to after being destroyed by thieves using the regular full zerk IP shatter build while solo roaming
It works great for me, thieves are no longer an issue, life becomes easier and I even feel guilty playing this so I don’t even stomp people anymore.
you get a 2 second burn from winds of chaos, the sword allows for landing shatters easily with the 3 ½ immobilize. You can switch out Domination IV and IX to V and VII if you prefer.
Heya this is the build that I’ve been using and had great success with in outnumbered fights!
Signet of Domination can be swapped out against either portal or Mantra of Resolve if you feel like it. I like having Rending Shatter instead of Crippling Dissipation but that’s up to you if you like it or not.
When I roam with friends I swap out Cleansing Conflagration for Shattered Concentration for the boon rips. In this build I use a sword instead of a scepter. The reason for this is because I play this build the same as I play a power shatter, very aggressively and iLeap-swap helps me land the shatters (also you get a 3 ½ sec immobilize due to all the condition duration). I often start with torch 4, then 5, sword 3-swap, shatter 2, swap to staff, phase retreat, throw a couple of Winds of Chaos.
This build is great for the AOE condition preassure it can put out and the 2 second burn duration you got on Winds of Chaos. Thieves are no longer a problem for me
You’ll also be pretty god kitten tanky!
i think there is a mistake as the burn duration is 1 sec as it got only 90% duration and not 100%. but still good
2 sec in the build editor and 2 sec in game for me. And then of course there’s the Toxic Focusing Crystal for an additional 10% which gives more room for changes in the build

Hello purple people! So nomally all I do is solo roam, flip camps and fight whoever I run into in the borderlands. I use a 44006 shatter half assassin, half zerker gear with greatsword and sword/torch.
Latley I’ve been feeling that other classes (like thieves and power rangers) can kill me without any effort at all. Simply press a button or 2 and I’m downed. Anyone else I encouter are most of the time using a condi build, which isn’t fun since all the cleanse I got is the Mantra of Resolve, which is never enough.
