Still quite a bit upset. here is a few reasons why:
1. Anyone who just recently bought a deluxe edition or higher now has a less of a value for their money. Expecting plenty of others to agree with this. Can’t you guys just admit ya gone and goofed the different packages?Actually those who buy a Deluxe Edition or higher will have TWO additional characters slots added to their account instead of just one now.
Please read my post.
2 isn’t really a great thing. Especially when only 1 class is coming out.
Oh, cut the carping. Be glad ANet did something, instead of whining about how it wasn’t exactly what you wanted. Some people will find fault in anything, I swear.
Everyone complained about Veteran players not getting anything. ANet gave back to the community after reviewing all of our generous feedback. Now people are complaining because of 2 extra slots overlapping for Veterans who purchased a Deluxe/Ultimate package.
Can’t you guys just be happy and be quiet? Seriously. It’s like you’re looking for something to gripe about.
What will be next? I can only wonder.
Those who are arguing about cost:content, I’m positive there is still a while to wait before HoT is released. Be patient. Just because the option to prepurchase is available, does not mean you have to prepurchase right this second. I am keen to see what else ANet shows us in regards to the xpac, but I don’t want them to spoil parts of it that I would prefer to see for myself, for the first time, when I play it. Some people actually like anticipation in games, especially when they trust those who created them.
Lastly, thank you, ANet!
When I said market, I was referring to the global market of everything we pay for in general; not to other MMO’s. Apologies for not specifying more clearly.
For those who purchased the game within the past couple months, yes I do think they should be refunded or offered something as a means of compensation for losing a good deal – but the points I mentioned above are ones I am seeing thrown around. I am fully aware that some players are angry for valid reasons but those reasons are not ones I mentioned in my original post.
Which, being compensated for missing out on said deal is something that can just as easily be taken up with ANet directly.
Do I think everyone deserves to use the forum? Absolutely. However, as mentioned, some arguments don’t apply and I’ve stated why I think so.
Isn’t that life? Time and money go hand in hand.
So we are comparing GW2, a highly successful MMO to other MMO’s on the market who are made by different companies? Comparing the work and quality of one to another is a bit of a stretch. What you gain by purchasing is the promised content. Don’t want to pay for it? Then don’t play.
I think there are some points being missed amidst all of the angry player warfare.
GW2 is not GW1. Stop comparing the two games; they are never going to be the same. Each one has its strengths and weaknesses; people are going to favor aspects of one versus the other. If you want to play GW1, I suggest you do that, and stop holding your breath for GW2 to suddenly transform into a GW1 reproduction. You will die of asphyxiation.
Since there are people digging into this, to actually argue that HoT is not an ‘expansion’ based on GW1 expansions, map size, what is being included, etc – on GW1 the actual area you were able to maneuver around was much smaller. Yes, the expansions provided larger ‘bricks of land’ but how much of that land could you even travel on? Surely not as much, as dividers existed between trails that barred you from popping from one section to another. The percentage of area you could actually explore was significantly less.
But these two games are not the same. So that entire argument is moot to begin with!
As for the Free Character slot for Revenant:
It’s not ANet’s responsibility to provide you with a free character slot. Would it be nice? Oh yeah. Would a million dollars be nice? You bet, but let’s be realistic. You have x character slots full of 80’s. If you knew HoT would be introducing a new class with it since January, this entire time you could have been preparing for that additional slot, instead of banking on the assumption that a slot would be handed out. ANet never promised a free slot; counting your chickens before they hatch will set one up for disappointment.
We are given free monthly dailies that include gear, Laurels, Mystic Coins, Tomes of Knowledge and more. Surely if one works hard to earn gold to transfer into gems, they can purchase their own additional slot, and use their saved Tomes of Knowledge to help their character reach 80. This is what many players have been doing. This is not rocket science.
Back again to the “Well, in GW1…” This is not GW1. Never will be.
“But we’ve spent so much time over the past 3 years, given ANet our money, etc.”
You, as a veteran player, have more advantage than any new player will. This is obvious. How much have you accomplished over 3 years? Do you think, suddenly because new players get the core game included for free, that they will match the advantages that you have, in a much shorter amount of time? From Ascended gear to daily and monthly achievements, to what you have built up in your bank, to all of these things, your advantage over new players surpasses their fortune of a free base game. How about veteran players be more thankful? I know I am, and I have been playing since initial launch. You played to have fun, not to be rewarded for doing it. You earned your rewards yourself. ANet is not going to hand things out to you.
ANet has never made you pay money for anything. Any gems you have purchased, anything at all, you have done willingly. Whether it was because you felt you simply needed to have x, or because buying x would make x easier for you, you have been the one making these purchase decisions. They have never been required, and ANet has never provided a means to gaining advantage over other players with out of game currency.
If you expected special treatment for your own decisions, then ANet is not at fault and owes you nothing, you are.
It is assumed that players have stayed with GW2 because they enjoy it, not because they expect fancy things out of it. Or, at least, one can hope.
Those who argue that $50 for even the Basic pre-purchase option is too much, why? Look at today’s market. We’re getting a new area, a new class, new elite specializations, guild halls, a plethora of new things to work for; whether you think that HoT is an expansion or not, it is expanding from the core game therefore, it is an expansion.
If you can’t afford $50, do what everyone does when they can’t afford something. Save up for it, ask it to be gifted for x special day, or be quiet. Just because some of us can afford, and see even the Basic option as desirable, doesn’t mean our money was not earned, or that we ‘have it easy’ because we can afford it. I work hard for my paychecks, and I don’t feel scammed at all by ANet.
I am excited to enjoy the new content, and more quick to find things I like, than find things I don’t. If you’re upset, maybe you should reevaluate whether or not your disappointment was due to expectations that were never promised.

Overall, I’m sure ANet has noted the negativity surrounding the prepurchase bundles (it would be impossible not to note something so in ones face); let’s keep crying about it.
yes that is the right strategy, the more people voice their concern the more the devs will know they will be losing sales,
also (it is already happening) it will bring the attention of the media, which will report on it
(you don’t jump down in the mud and expect to come out clean)both of this factors could (i’d say should, but that shouldn’t have happened in the first place) make them try to make up for their underhanded actions
All of the complaining and uproar already has the media’s attention. Rah, rah. Blah, blah…

I’ve been thinking the same think for a couple of days. If the base GW2 was TRULY FREE and WITHOUT VALUE it would be F2P right now.
No No……..Gw2 is free but only as an offer for new players. you can still buy it….ah no.
But HoT is still an expansion….it’s not a standalone because Anet say it is….
Veteran get the same deal than the newcomers HoT + the basegame.Veteran have a amazing possibilities; they can link their account to HoT & keep all their advantages from their 3 years of playing: I mean lvl80, gears, Achievement.
They got:
– to play LS1 and newcomers can’t.
– LS2 for free and newcomers must pay.
– ton of stuff from dailylogin all past years.
And they also got ton of playtime from their 60$ these past 3 years.
So they only have to pay 50$ for HoT. After all they bought thing on the gemstore for the past 3 years but Anet doesn’t make money there….So they are not really founding the game now.
Seriously they get way more stuff than the newcomer on GW2.
How can they find that this a bad deal.

You aren’t paying more because the prepurchase tiers include the core game. The core game is included as a Free Bonus. I repeat: FREE BONUS. As was officially stated above, since many of you either failed to read it or failed to comprehend it.
Whether the tiers include the base game or not will not alter the prices.
The price might be free (which remains to be proven since you cannot buy the core game for $0 anywhere), but the value isn’t.
Okay let me break it down.
GW2 is included in HoT whether you purchased Basic, Deluxe, or Ultimate. The value of GW2 is not free, no, but it has been included in these three tiers via prepurchasing as a Free Bonus. No one is paying more because it is included; if GW2 wasn’t included, the price of each tier would remain the same. All in all my reply has nothing to do with the value of the original game.

If you want GW1, go play it. Simple as that. It’s pointless to continuously compare the two, as they will never be the same. They each carry elements that some favor and some don’t. GW2 is not a GW1 reproduction.
So when Guild Halls come, they’re going to be, what, a big boring room with some merchants? Those dissing the personal housing / Guild Hall combination, do you think we’ve been waiting as long as we have for a mediocre feature? Let alone, do you think something that is to be released with the first expansion, to lack any aesthetic?
I’ll bet my annual income that there will be options for every player – customizing the hall to look any way the Guild desires. It doesn’t have to have rooms, or be an intriguing bunk, it can be open and direct for those blase players who don’t care much for glitz. It should be able to suit everyone’s needs, whatever they may be.
As mentioned before, we have no way of knowing until ANet reveals information to us on Guild Halls; but if they didn’t add the option for making a hall visually resemble “personal housing”, then they’d technically be shooting themselves in the foot.
The biggest issue with that is what the name implies, It’s a Guild hall. So it isn’t a reflection of your style or creative outlook. Its the guild as a whole. And i don’t know about you but 3 out of my five guilds are led by 1 -3 people who i’d be my check is going to control all of the decisions on what going on in the guild hall like everything else that is force as group content.
Do you think every guild is like yours? You’d be a little naive if you did. Stop thinking about you and start thinking about the entire playerbase as a whole. Are all guilds led by multiple people? No. Are all guilds interested in the same thing? No.
If a guild wants to make their hall look like personal housing – what’s wrong with that? Just because personal housing doesn’t suit everyone, doesn’t mean the option shouldn’t be available. Not “Oh, I don’t want that! So nobody will!”
Lol. Let’s be real here.
I very much doubt there will be private rooms on guild halls.
The whole housing concept while interesting just boils down to the time you spend making your place.
How much time will you spend looking at it and enjoying? Very little. Hanging out with friends? Not much. QQ about adding more stuff and how everything is on the gem store and ANet “only cares about the monies”? A lot.In short I think that’s a can of worms ANet just doesn’t wanna open so they don’t have to deal with the most ludicrous complains.
You’ll get guild halls with pre set upgrades that you unlock and the banners flying around, but I’m betting that’s it.
I will be spending a lot of time looking at it, actually, and hanging out there with the folks. So…

Rytlock is the first Revenant, as was blatantly stated by Colin Johanson at Pax South. It is what it is, like it or lump it.
Is lion's arch getting fixed in the xpac?

I’m sorry Gaile but its been a year now for your supposed living world its pretty pathetic that Lions Arch hasn’t been rebuilt yet. And if after 2 years of development on the Expansion you still can’t say if it will be fixed then my assumtion is no it won’t be.
ANet’s focus has obviously been on other things. Considering you’re on the outside, looking in, let’s stop assuming you know what it’s like to be in their position. They are working on many things at once, and frankly, while we would love for Lion’s Arch to be rebuilt, it’s not necessarily a top priority.
:-)

Considering ANet has only released an “announcement”, along with a fraction of the features that they guarantee will be available with the expansion, let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
They announced it. They didn’t reveal everything, because that’d kill the suspense, and they probably aren’t far enough along to do so, but they did reveal some promising news. That being said, stop comparing GW1 to GW2, when the few things that connect the two games are confined to lore, and then some. This is not Blizzard, stop expecting new races, new level cap, etc.
Speculate? Sure, but don’t form your own conclusions when we realistically don’t know all that much. Wait for some facts before you start complaining.
Is there a specific reason why the Devs decided not to put either the Beta hairstyle or armor into the game? :c I LOVE THOSE!
