I personally want no cape. Just the character model going face and hands first. Maybe vote beforehand on whether they fly arms out like they’re role playing a plane or hands front like they’re superman.
I saw some complaints about glider skins.
I’d like to propose an invisible glider so it looks like my toon just supermanned themselves off a cliff.
+1 if you think it would be hilarious.
Search “metabattle”
Go to website.
Read meta builds.
Modify them as you need for fun.
Spvp offers a preset build at a click in the drop down menu.
Lol, I didn’t think of that. I plan to try to get every elite spec unlocked eventually. I like the idea of a core mesmer duel-wielding holosmith’s blades. Or heck a power chronomancer. I prefer power builds atm because the gearing is easier. At least ascended wise.
I’d love to see a vid of you reflecting that bristleback to death lol.
I’m an ele main though that may change with how fun the Holosmith elite is. Big laser BOOM!
I play based on fun. Am going to be away until after PoF drops due to real life but I plan to switch up my zerker gear for celestial eventually since I prefer utility/optimal for damage. With the addition of mounts I’ll probably go for my first map completion too. The biggest win here for me is that I can play mage archetypes without a mana bar. No stopping play just to wait for my resource to regen. Just get in and go.
In every profession specific forum there are threads saying effectively “this profession is bad, everything is bad.”
Nowhere is there a post complimenting Anet’s successes. I’m a filthy casual, I’ve only unlocked part of tier 3 fractals, done no raids, my wvw rank is like 150, my spvp rank is like 40. People will say I’m not qualified to speak on this but I find it confusing. How can every class be bad, every skill too low damage? Yet the game is too easy and needs to be more difficult. There seems to be a lack of moderate views.
Does anyone have a second light armor/weapons/ trinkets set?
I know its way not meta but love the idea of a celestial set. This would get shared between the other light armor classes for when I want easy variety. I’m already starting on trinkets with my laurels.
Thanks that sorts that

I was using this last night for my tier 3 run:

Tried to use my illusions and phantasms for damage and keep them alive rather than shattering used greatsword for when I wanted range and the domination grandmaster for the extra damage in pug on greatsword.

Hi necros!
I’m an ele main, looking for a current power necro build for fractals and dungeons. I tried power reaper but find I don’t cope well with the melee range at tier 3. I did better using core and ranged last night. Not sure though if my build could be better.
A live necro does more dps than a dead reaper is my logic. Is metabattle current? I’ll be running full ascended aside from weapons, plan to play in zerker gear.
I know it’s not optimal and I should “git gud.” While I learn to do that though I’d like a current direct damage power build I can use for variety when I want a break from ele.
Please advise me dark ones!
Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn!
Dear community,
I’m an ele main but who finally finished my ascended berserker armor and trinkets (and just as condi became meta!). I’m looking for a core mesmer build built around direct damage for dungeons and fractals.
Looking for a build that will let me do low level fractals and dungeons while I learn the class and work towards unlocking chronomancer.
Full zerk armor and trinkets at ascended. Metabattle lists that I should have some assassins gear in their for crit though. Is that still current? Can an experienced mesmer give me build advice or link me to a build?

Welcome to Vanilla Destiny: Guild Wars 2 edition.
The gambling for gear system there made the game incredibly Not-fun. The id system here favours players who have full ascended for their characters and will feel like punishment to people who don’t. I think it’s human nature too that if you were giving people something for free and then you give it a cost later people get angry. Anet seems to want to inflate the prices of materials and skins on the TP by making access to mats from gear salvaging more expensive in PoF areas. I definitely don’t want this system made universal. Gambling mechanics in any form are addictive not fun. They prevent you playing how you want as they encourage grinding for unlocks, here gold. I want to play not grind gold to get the unlocks I want.
If it’s PoF areas only maybe the idea is to force people into HoT areas to get their ectos and mats. Realistically, I doubt Anet wants to punish players for playing in PoF areas.
From an RP perspective it seems hilarious. Your character who could recognise a sword from a shield got brain damage fighting during living world 3 and now needs someone else to put the gear in their hands. Makes you wonder how that engie can still activate photon forge? Now she’s an idiot savant!
Destiny fixed their system by making each rarity a guarenteed drop from its own colour unidentified piece with a tiny chance of dropping a higher rarity from a lower tier. Just make unid tiers and let ectis drop from unid rare and exotic salvages then adjust drop rates of each tier.
Bard should be a duel-wielding warhorns thief focussed on multi boon giving and daze cc. Make it a low damage high cc support class.
Or new 2 hand weapon based on the lute toy that has initiative based channels that spam high stacks of boons but root you.
Preach
Truly sad how people complain about HoT mob difficulty and want it toned down. The difficulty is just now, like you said, having to use blocks , dodges, and some cc, ie PLAYING the kittening game. Then you have clowns coming in here saying that raid difficulty should stay away from open world, like lol what, no one is asking that.
The PoF demo Hydra was a joke. It’s fireball hit me for like 2k on a zerker armor warrior and its charge attack even less. Instead of “gotta dodge that charge attack because it’s dangerous”, it’s “gotta dodge that charge attack cus otherwise ill fall asleep faster”
Warrior has the highest base health in the game and is a heavy armor class. Wear your same full zerker armor on an ele and suddenly you find going full dps in melee range is much more risky and difficult. Content needs to be accessible to multiple playstyles. Part of the way they’re dealing with this on ele is giving them barrier because having full glass builds with the 11k health leaves you hugging the ground once your dodges are gone.
I’d love to see profession specific outfits that are unlocked via achievements in game. I can already put a cloth robe on my Warrior or put tanky metal armor onto my Ele via outfits from gem store or black lion chests. Given that they did this I’d like to see outfits that are unlocked through gameplay that are profession themed.
I think it’d raise the chance of people buying new outfits if they already have ones they can try and it’d be a nice visual marker of achievement for players aside from titles.
I’m thinking warriors get something vicious and dark metal-like, elementalists get something made from fire/ice/stone/lightning, Guardians get a paladin themed lighter armorset with glowing runes similar to those on the shoulders you can pick in character creation etc etc.
Double points if they were dynamic ie ele outfit on an ele changes material from fire to lightning depending on your dominant/current attunement. Thief outfit becomes surrounded by shadowy effects when they stealth etc.
It would be another visual way to show off achievements like titles and it’d be fun. Shouldn’t effect the whole visual shorthand for classes silhouette thing since I can wreck that anyway?
What do you think?
Weaver, Spellbreaker, Holosmith
Holosmith’s blade for sure.
Will weaver tanking be a thing? Barrier could be fun as active mitigation.
Does weaver’s split of condi/direct damage plus the improvement in vit/heal stats usefulness mean celestial weaver will be viable in Fractals and meta in wvw?
I see Scourge as a condi disc priest, Ele now a melee tank with some active mitigation through barrier. Nomads weaver would possibly be a funny troll spec with its high vit and toughness for sustain through barrier maxing..
Weaver meleehealer through water autos + soothing mist. Imagine A srune where barrier created by duel skills is shared amongst allies in range and magi weaver gets fun. As a max barrier sharer.
Is anyone else able to come up with wilder ideas?
place a buy order on the TP for some with the money that you just got.
unless you blew all that gold already….
You know it’s funny you mention that….
So I haven’t used a Mystic Coin since I’ve been playing. Heard they were for legendaries but figured that I can’t play enough to get one so that doesn’t matter.
Just sold all of mine on TP for gold (about 148 coins)
aaaaand…
It turns out according to Wooden Potatoes most recent video that that was a really bad idea.
So I’m sad now.
Will it become hard/impossible to get groups for meta-events?
And is there a plan ie HoT dailies to keep people interested in this content so latecomers can experience collections? So far I’ve only done North Wind which required beating the Mouth of Mordremoth. I’m happy with that but post PoF release will newcomers get to do this? Or defend the city in Auric Basin?
In all seriousness, I’m hoping the relatively recent splitting of pvp/pve/wvwv skills will let eles have the build diversity they want. Barrier sounds like it should function as sustain for sword weavers and should make staff a lot more tanky. I think staff weaver or scepter will be more noob (me) friendly.
I loved Ele at inception becsuse of the no-mana caster style and the dynamic qualities of d/d play. Weaver seems like it could bring d/d back and a true melee build will be fun.
I’ll be planning to do the spellbreaker collection to get an ascended dagger to go with my weaver blade eventually.
Can’t wait.
Meleementalist confirmed!
I’ll play it even if it’s sub par just for the novelty.
Bugger. Stat swap is so useful that future legendary armor holders will have an outrageous advantage in build diversity.
Stat swap armor could be immensely fun and allow people to try before they buy when it comes to ascended and picking a role.
Hi Guys,
Hopefully this is the place. I have an idea for a new gear type I’m calling “Lesser-dary” gear but that needs rebranding. Maybe call it Utility gear. Lesser-dary gear would be slightly below exotic stats, desgnated dark blue, weapons still use superior sigils but armor can only use rare runes and can’t take infusions or gems.
To make it appealing though it would have…
STAT SWAP!
Just like legendaries. You’d be able to craft or buy this gear as armor/weapons/back and jewellery.
Idea would be it allows on the fly respeccing for people exploring the game world but be underpowered in end game content so that ascended and exotic aren’t made redundant. It’d be valuable in exploration pve for on the fly respecs and allow easy build diversity experimentation.
Make the initial skins identical to starter gear so it doesn’t replace fashion wars and you’d have a gear type that would be casuals friendly in most play but not replace exotic and ascended.
What do you think?
In terms of level the only classes I don’t have to 80 are Rev and Engie. My mesmer is 4 levels from hitting 80 and will probably get those by the time I finish farming my bloodstones for my backpiece.
I enjoyed warrior play. Slightly less so with Berserker since to me it kind of just felt like Warrior+.
All those alts currently have exotic armor though I share my ascended amulet and thingies between them for the AR bonus when I want it. My Ele has a magi exotic set for general pve since I like being surprise support/healer. I think I have clerics on my druid.
I was tempted to see if I could just get ascended weapons in game though I’m not sure how to do that without levelling a crafting profession. Thanks for the reply advice, if anyone else has ideas please post too.
You gave me some good ideas.
Heya fellow Elementalists,
I’m looking for some advice on how to spend my time next. What do you think is good fun for time investment for you?
I have been playing since shortly after the AJ review came out on an on and off basis. I finally completed my first ascended set, which is light armor zerker, about 2 days ago which has left me pretty much broke in game now.
I’m just grinding up bloodstones using the spvp line to get enough for a backpiece and will have a full set of ascended armor/trinkets. The tomes are going towards levelling a mesmer. I’ve got about 120 AR now but only have cracked tier 2 of fractals. Do you guys reccommend alt levelling? I still need to get an engie and rev to 80 too. Should I try saving for an off set of ascended for an alt? Or grinding it in game? I don’t really have time for raiding. Is cracking tier 4 of FoTM a fun/worthwhile endeavour? Maxing out achieves on previous living story?
Still need to do season 4 and 5 of living story. Only have 87 mastery points unlocked. I did Pact Commander asap in tyria and the Fractal one there. Have one point in the legendary crafting line. Is map completion for HoT maps fun/rewarding? I used my HoT 80 boost to get a Ranger ready to go druid.
I’m kind of lost as to what to do next. Was considering of playing another light class to benefit my armor time investment. Not sure if should do power mesmer/chrono or power reaper. Whether I should try to get the reaper greatsword collection for a sexy ascended GS especially considering the ele rumours. I dunno.
Any tips?
Other examples:
Elementalist – Elemental Caller
Wind and Water abilities are dashy for movement. Water lets you dash forward healing allies in your path and give regeneration or slide on ice, chilling foes behind you. Wind gives you lightning stuns and damage dashes. Earth abilities are low cooldown abilties that let you surround yourself in a stone sphere to tank damage, Lift you and allies within range above the ground on pillars of stone temporarily. Fire summons a single meteor on a channel that smashes the ground or smaller ones that strike your friends in range giving might and fire aura.
Warrior – Juggernaut. Gains chains that can be attached to weapons. On axes they let you throw the axes forward then pull yourself to that point grappling hook style knocking over enemies along the path. Whirl letting you attack opponents at 900 range but do no damage along the chains. Shields and mace give you a shield wall ability that can tank hits for you and friends inside the bubble. Again while this weapon set is equipped you’re effectively crippled. You’re biggest movement ability or tank ability would be tied to your burst ability so this would encourage you to keep all the tank weapons or movement weapons together.
Engineer – Kitmaster – gets a laser turret kit that locks your movement to 0 for high damage attacks that have a chargeup time, an auto that is a low damage beam that can be swept across the field and is interuppted by the other attacks, a dune buggy that lets you dash across the ground in rocket boosts and robot companion elite that lets you summon a buddy like flesh golem for necromancers and the elementals for elementalists. This guy is a moving boon giver.
The names need work but it’s a starting place.
I’d love to see gw2 take the elite specialisation and take it to an expansion in a really sideways direction. Be aware that these ideas are a basic framework that are cobbled together from other peoples ideas too. You’ll see:
I’d love to see an expansion that focussed on momentum.
Imagine the new expansion’s focus is about movement and stillness. Your new elite specialisation changes your weapons so that half your weapons have skills that are low cooldown, high movement, low damage, high breakbar damaging attacks, and half your weapons have skills that dramatically lower your movement speed, allow you to tank heavy hits, have high cooldowns and can do high damage.
This would tie into a really large map. Instead of a mount mastery, you use your high speed weapon skills to navigate your way. In fractals, raids or in meta-events you use your high movement skills to tag fast moving enemies that move in a pattern and sometimes do extremely high damaging attacks. Your speedy abilities let you shred large breakbars and move out of high damaging fields, your slow ability let you tank unavoidable big hits and drop in big burst damage as a group.
Theoretical example of this happening would be something like this:
Ranger becomes a Skin Walker and can temporarily fuse to transform into a larger version of their pet. They use fast pets like birds to skim across the battle field doing many all along their flight/dash path (range around 1000). They use their drakes to turn tanky more or less siting on the spot then using their breath or bite attacks to do big damage and Harden Skin type abilities to tank big hits. While they’re using the high cooldown abilties movement speed is limited as if crippled. Swapping has becomes situationally dependant.
There’d have to be others for the other classes obviously and some of my names really suck. To make build diversity more interesting make high toughness above baseline lower the cooldowns of your tank abilities without upping damage up to 105/20% as appropriate. For the speed skills it would lower your movement speed distance add cooldowns but up your damage slightly without affecting breakbar damage. On the flip side you could trait for precision to up your damage on your speed abilities, drop cooldowns by up to 10%/20% as appropriate but increase the cooldowns on your tank abilities equivalently and lower damage there.
The idea then is you specialise in movement if you like the fast paced reactionary play there, tagging up mobs and bosses but ultimately always doing way less damage than the tankiest build, having an easier time hitting in the first place and shredding breakbars. Your role is going to be breakbar shredder letting you temporarily root mobs for the heavy hitters. Or you focus on tanking damage and doing hi damage but being relatively rooted in place and reliant on the movers to drop the breakbars on moving mobs or damage immune mobs so you can kill them fast. To up the defensive feel some abilties might be heavy counter attacks on your weapon skills.
Some classes will focus on giving out boons like protection and conditions like chill to slow down mobs enough that the heavy hitters can smash them.
Against trash mobs there would be elements of rounding them up for the heavy hitters to destroy. You’d have tank play by making some classes have defensive cooldowns that can be shared by friendly characters within melee range or very close range like the elementalist lifting friendlies into the sky on stone pillars or warriors. Guardians can spam aegis on friendlies in range blast holy fire fields all over the place.
You could avoid traditional tanking in raids by having your tanky characters give protection style boons or healing on fast moving focussed people to help them last while the movers can get focussed and need to place the boss or groups of enemies into position where they can be hit by the tanky damagers.
Masteries could let you add verticality through modified gliding. The moving abilties can be aimed upword or let you attack in the sky while the tank abilities let you drop from above or burst upward to knock people temporarily out of flight or knock enemies to the ground.
This is very vague and incomplete but it’s the base for an idea i’d like to see that involves enemy swarms. It’d give tougness and nomads style gear some meaning.
If you limited the areas where the high breakbar/high movement areas are within the maps you’d have reason to use your vanilla builds for sustained dps on those enemies while being ready to switch to your movement or tank spec for the new high breakbar/high damage on slow timer, lots of low damage through movement enemies.
This is just a veeery rough sketch of a different direction I’d love to see happen that’s different from raise the level cap now grind for gear direction or here’s new ways to do big damage.
Aha, I see, I went completely nuts on my warrior and got soldier gear, soldier weapons, and soldiers accessories with crests of the soldier on everything but the armor. I kind of assumed the point of the prefixes was to go full prefix.
I have been confusion.
I die a lot in zerker gear because I kind of suck, this build lets me not die and enjoy the scenery.
Depending on the mobs in the area I’ll swap Brawler’s Recovery for Inspiring battle standard. I have about 30k hp with traits and exotic gear aside from my amulet which is Ascendend and one rare ring cause I’m pov. Hp Regen is about 700hps with a standard otherwise it sits on 400hps.
All gear is Soldiers, with Dolyak runes on my armor (cheap source of toughness/vit and gives tiny heal). With signet’s traited 366hps and rune heals I get 400hps. That’s fine thanks to high toughness reducing my damage.
Weapons are Soldiers GS and Rifle with Beryl Orbs for the Vit/Power and Crests of the Soldier. I suppose I could go Axe/Mace for a little extra damage with the vuln application and knockdown for safety, or Axe/Shield for the block but so far I’m happy with GS mobility and damage.
All my accessories and my amulet have Crests of the Soldier on them.
Traits are:
Strength: Mid Mid Up
Discipline: Top Top Bottom (Or Top Bottom Bottom when I need more condi clear)
Defense: Mid mid mid (Mid mid top if mushrooms there’s knockdown spam)
I have 30k health which gives me a big safety buffer so if I’m slow on dodging out of danger it’s not a catastrophe. I can sit toe to toe now with GS and 100b spam things in Maguuma without too much concern thanks to the high regen. Against things it’s not safe to go toe to toe or when I need time to enjoy the regen I use rifle with piercing and a bit of movement and now I spend much less time running from res points.
Play is not mentally challenging but it’s very safe. Runes were cheap on auction house; the gear I got cheaply with badges from EoTM at the Eternal Battlegrounds vendor.
There’s some synergy in my traits with toughness converts to power, and power converts to vitality traits interacting, which is why I grabbed all those cheap Soldier crests. Stuff still dies reasonably quickly. Not fast, but fast enough.
Heal is Signet, Utilities are Power Signet, Dolyak Signet and Battle Standard, or swap standard for Stamina and the healing on standards trait for Brawler’s Recovery for when condi clear is required. Elite is Signet for the swiftness and crit, or Rampage.
Is it complex? No. But this is very noob friendly and lets me go toe to toe which I dig. I have Swiftness from my standard and signet to make up for lack of Warrior’s Sprint.
In events I can do some damage, bring a little utility with banners and res near champs without worrying about being killed thanks to my big health buffer. And I look kinda kitten :P
I’m sure this has been done before, maybe even in this particular way. Anyways, enjoy.
Hi, I’m currently levelling a guard at the moment. I ended up dumping my zerker gear on my warrior for a pvt set since I found I was dying too often. I prefer the slower but steady play of being alive with lower damage on my warr than kill a few mobs, ganked by vet mushrooms, run back etc.
So what can you reccomend for my Guard? I was considering clerics and doing some kind of staff longbow thing so I can attack from range but keep myself alive with heals but everyone still seems to say NOOO, ONLY ZERK OR YOU ARE SHAME ON YOUR FAMILY!
Does anyone have alternatives to zerker builds for HoT that maintain aliveness and are fun? I don’t care if it’s not “Meta” as long as it’s still “Fun-a” because I’m not “dead-a.”
Assume here that I’m too old for twitch dodging and don’t want to be locked into a build with blinds spam.
Ok even if it’s not exactly viable I’ll do it anyway. Once i cap I’ll get a bezerker set to keep the dungeon people happy and a cleric set for healing in WvW
I figured healing in this game isn’t about getting people to max health so much as sustain. Holding death at bay by increasing the groups effective health at the expense of damage.
Ps do i just sit in water if i want to play healer? Or still switch elements?
I just returned after a 1 year break and have a 36 ele. I prefer playing healer type roles in other mmos. Know that doesn’t really exist but is now viable if unpopular?
Please give me advice for a healer build at 80 and entry gear.
Also does it take long to get full sets? I’ve never had an 80 and wouldn’t mind a bezerker set for dpsing. I prefer staff play or d/d.
I’m happy to be linked to other posts. When i tried searching before i struggled to find relevant results.
