Sounds cool and unique. I dig.

You’re saying you buy a bottle, equip it, gain exp, then pass the bottle to another char to gain exp on the char. If so, I dig it.

Still , it is soon to bash at Anet. After the gear is implemented and we get to know how it is actually working we can make the judgment call.

Its not too soon since they aren’t clear how it will play out in the future. Thats the complaint.

I agree that’s another Anet suggestion: Explanation.

I’m sure that a lot of us just really want to know how they intend on expanding this system later on. Then we would know if our worrying is justified, or if Anet knows what they’re doing. Plus an explanation would tell us Anet’s reasoning behind that stat increases.

I found this post interesting because I actually came here to make a similar thread. I have loved GW so far and agree with what it originally stood for, but I believe I know what Anet was trying to do with fractals and Ascended Gear: provide content for some more “hardcore” gamers. I don’t disagree with this move, however, I also feel—as the Op does, that the way the system is set up now is flawed.

I believe that the infusion slot needs to be the progression factor. New Infusions should be released for each dungeon to allow extreme progression. With this I believe that dungeon rewards should be cool looking and unique ascended gear. That being said… I believe that ascended gear itself should be no more powerful than other gear IE exotics. Keep the infusion slot on the ascended gear for progression, add back the standard upgrade slot, and reduce the ascended stats back down to exotic level. With this system people who want serious gear progression to clear gear dependent content have the ability to do so, while at the same time acquiring some of the coolest looking gear in the game. This saves other players though. By keeping the stat levels the same Anet doesn’t risk out gearing their old content, potentially destabilizing WvW, and dossn’t risk making players feel like they cannot be a strong player without running a treadmill.

So recap:
Ascended Gear Stays
*Stats Reduced to Exotic Level
*Upgrade Slot Added
*Infusion slot remains
*No Infusions Which Increase Base Stats!

The result:
*Cool looking specific armor/weapons for serious PvE’ers (Dungeoneers)
*No detriment to the current balance of power in the game.

I really hope Anet reads this thread and posts like these. That being said I am hoping that they implement this system responsibly. Even if they do not use our ideas, I hope their current ideas for Ascended work towards the same end that we are describing. A GW where challenge seeking players are rewarded, while those who do seek the same challenges are not ultimately harmed by the addition of content for the challenge seekers.

To Anet: The great thing about GW is the versatility with which you can play the game. Do Not Take This Away and GW will be successful for a long time.

The point of the dungeon—from what I understood—is to challenge groups of players to go as far as they can in a single run. If we get 5 more per each level that we go up, then I don’t see the problem here. This dungeon is intended to be an actual challenge, and I believe is primarily there to ease the pain of players which have already absorbed a large portion of the game’s content.

We need a different mentality in the GW2 community. These one time events are awesome. It is unfortunate that not everyone can play through them, but…

If things go the way they are seeming to go, we should probably expect an event like this about once a month. There will be others. If you miss some one time events, there will be others.

I work, and go to school, and don’t have much time to myself usually, but I accept the fact that I may not be able to see every even. I personally believe we need more of this attitude.

OP: Calm Down. You have a negative perspective. Remember that text does not have verbal queues. I was not intending to be snarky. You need to look through the lens of (most people on the internet are decent people) instead of (everyone is a kitten who just wants to criticize me.)

I was not intending to be “snarky,” so relax.

Now. I want to clear up a misconception that you have: We are not so different.

I do not, as you say: "mistak(e) this thread as a whiny rant " Illustrating my point above, you believe that I am attacking you. I am not. Also, it is good English and argumentative practice to not make assumed statements. Your entire post is made on the basis that I believe that you are whining. I do not. I am not some elitist kitten. I am sorry if my post came across as such.

You continue to say (that I believe you are saying:
“Orr is too hard for me wah wah.’ “don’t disrespect me with the same kitten, contrived rubbish you are saying to every whiny thread.”

I do not post on whiny threads; I ignore them. Therefore, here you are assuming that I am an elitist kitten who trolls the forums looking for ‘bad casuals’ to troll. I prefer to spend my time playing the game. You mention your wife. I play GW2 with my serious girlfriend of over four years, my brother, and some other personal real-life friends. I am not in this game for extreme competition or elitism.

Now that your miscalculation of my personality from a wall of text has been corrected and explained, I would like to do two things:

1. Ask that we maybe play together sometime, so that you may get to know me better.

2. I will answer the questions posed in your post:

a)“I want to know WHY you find being CC’s constantly fun.”

-I find being CC’ed (I am assuming you mean crowed controlled or crowed with mobs, either way my answer is the same) fun because it is challenging, as a console gamer my entire life from age 6+ I find challenge fun. I played console games until I started WoW about 5 years ago. I enjoy challenge. That is why I find CC’s fun.

b)"I want to know WHY you find not having the time to soak in and enjoy the location because you are running for your life, fun. "

I find running for my life, or fighting to the death, fun because I can’t do it in my real life. (Well, I mean technically I could if I wanted to be a societal outcast.) It goes along with challenge. I love running to stay alive because it is a challenge. I love killing hordes of enemies and screaming expletive-expletive-expletive in my head as I struggle to test my reflexes in a game of survival. After the enemies are dead, I stop and take a look around, and take in the epic scope of the landscape. There is plenty of time to enjoy the world once you clear yourself some breathing room.

c) “I want to know WHY you find not having enough people to do events that aren’t possible to do solo like previous zones, fun.”

Because it fits the “living world” of a game that I am looking for in an MMO, it is realistic. You can’t move a 2 ton boulder in real life without help. You have to go seek out help. I believe that from a design perspective, the need for multiple people actually improves the closeness of the community. I like knowing “if I go get some friends or more people we can definitely do this.” This once again relates to the overarching theme of my answers which is: these things are fun because I enjoy challenge.

But let me reiterate. I am not an elitist kitten. I did not believe your post to be whiny. I am not trying to be condescending, but next time you make a post keep in mind that tone of voice and body language are not found in written communication, and that most forum posters are not published authors who use diction and rhetoric to intentionally be a kitten.

That being said. Hoping we can guest with each other at some point. When this feature is released.

Final Note: I think Orr on the whole is fine as it is.

You’re in Orr, Zhaitan’s home, do you think he is just gonna let you run around and do what you want without making it annoying for you?

If you’d read my thread properly you’d see that I understand the concept behind Orr and the design decisions they made but feel that in reality, it’s execution is a detriment to the rest of the game.

Your snarky logical answer can be applied to any part of the game so far whether you are in a bandit’s hideout or dredge tunnels – so why are there Heart quests there and not here?

Like I said, I can understand WHY they have made Orr like it is, but in so doing this, I believe they have deviated away from many of the philosophies that have made the game so fun up until now.

Just because Orr is Zhaitan’s home doesn’t mean the game has to cease being fun and start being annoying.

I have fun in Orr. Fun is relative to the person. I do what I want in GW2. When I miss the intense action of large group PvE (like I had with WoW raids) I go to Orr. Otherwise I go elsewhere. You are not required to complete the map.

Just because Orr isn’t fun for you doesn’t mean that it isn’t for others.

Make a few friends and it should be easy for you to find groups for these zones if you just want to clear them and never touch them again because the difficulty turns you off.

Minister Caudecus is one rich dude...

Sniderbl.5916

So… apparently Caudecus has been sponsoring a party at Mina’s Shooting Range in Divinity’s Reach since launch…

That’s got to be expensive.

While I definitely approve of Anet’s decision to cover up the fact that the Shooting Range activity is not ready yet with a good explanation in story terms… shouldn’t Caudecus have run out of money by now. I mean seriously…

Also (in actual game terms) I was expecting the range to be open at launch. NOTE: I am not complaining about it, this sort of thing happens from time to time, and I am by no means really impatient. I am currently really, really engulfed in the game as is. On the whole I REALLY love what Anet is doing with the game; however, I am just a tad bit surprised that no one on the forums or in game seems to have noticed that this feature is missing.

Also wondering if anyone has an idea of if/when we might see it actually be in game (and Caudecus being dirt poor from hosting such a long party).

Voice talent generally not so… talented?

in Audio

Posted by: Sniderbl.5916

Sniderbl.5916

I actually agree. The voices of all of the main characters are fine. However, I also feel that most of the VA’s had horrible contextual notes. Having just done Battle for Claw Island Yesterday, I feel that the actors behind the voices didn’t REALLY know what was supposed to be happening in the story.

The game’s writing is phenominal, but some of the voice acting kills it for me… until I go back to being immersed in the beautiful world.

The game’s story is really good, but sometimes it gets trampled on my spotty VO’s.

A lot of the primary dialogue is good, but some of the VO’s for the world’s Scouts are really bad.

Also, the cinematic (not stage dialogue clips) scenes really lack contextual voice (as I mentioned above.).

It’s not enough to destroy the game, but it is enough for some of us to say: “Sell me something cool on the Store so that I can help you guys pay for better contextual notes and VA’s for expansions.”

Also, and this needs to be mentioned: Sometimes voice’s stop playing for me. Some kind of bug. This happens for sound effects too. Occasionally they just stop working. I will see floating text, hear no voice. When I’m fighting, sometimes my bow shots stop making noise, my axe will stop making sounds, my sword…etc.etc.

Don’t know what causes that.

EDIT: A comment above made me remember: When i watched the Anet-release Video About Voice acting, I remember the Sylvari Female Voice actress had NO-CLUE the real story of Caithe. I think most of the VO problems were due to poor backstory and context. Either on the part of A-net or the Actors not reading their info.

This is a problem. Albeit not a game destroying problem, it is slightly disheartening that the actors do not quite convey the amazing written story. Suggest A-net improves this in Expansions. If they do, the problems will be forgotten.

Does Zhaitan deserve a world event?

in Dynamic Events

All I think is this:

I hate to ask for content patches from a game that is largely based on a buy to play content model. But we definitely need more DE’s, with more impact in the world, and more STORY SIGNIFICANT DE’s. Also I believe DE’s do need to change based on the players (not just scale up in numbers based on the number of players.)

Is buying and selling for huge profit against ToS?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Sniderbl.5916

I personally feel that the Trading Post , being part of a role-playing MMO, should emulate or play the role of a real world commodities exchange. I think some true perspective need to come into play sooner than later. If it can happen in the real world it should be ok here. Buy low sell high is standard business in markets. Flipping should be allowed. I would like to see a finalization on the Trading Post setup in order to keep from watering down aspects of this game to the point of being mundane. Frankly the OP wants to play this game his way and I have no objection to it.

Crafting exists so players can craft gear and farm mats if they dont want to pay the TP price. If enough people do this instead of buying from the TP, the basic law of supply and demand takes over. The seller sees no demand for his supply at his asking price and must re-evaluate his pricing. There is too much adjusting going on this early. Everyone needs to just let the economy settle before all the knee-jerk adjusting. As it stands right now, I certainly wont sell and I have only bought 2 times, because of all the fiddling and adjusting. Let it run and let the players shape the economy for a while before any more tinkering occurs.

^This guy. I like player run economies. The game already has enough safeguards in (gold sinks, sell tax, et al.) to curb inflation. I really love actually playing GW2. But I like buying and the selling (before I go offline) so that when I come back I have a cozy profit with which to go play WvW (which is REALLY expensive for a lower level player)
or buy stuff/pay repair bills.

Ok, so… It doesn’t look like I’ve been banned or anything, which is good, because I love GW2. But anywho…

WOW this thread exploded. So in response to people with “Error attempting to sell”. The message goes away. Just stop posting for a min and slow down. Pretty sure it’s an anti-botting measure of some kind.

Also, I mainly play the market when my friends are offline, and I want to make money while doing HW, or doing something else. I have made a substantial profit from simply flipping large quantities of items at a very small profit margin (I only make like 2s) per stack. I don’t see how this is wrong, but I’ve seen people complaining on the forums, so I just wanted to make sure I was in the clear to play my way.

Note: Flipping Increases the base cost of an item slightly, but I don’t see how it in any way affects SMART buyers.

Anyone who wants to buy mats for crafting for a low price, can watch the market and figure out the lowest possible buy price (I mean hell, how do you think we manage to make a profit with a 15% tax?)

Title = The Question,

I know it’s a bit of a stupid question, because 90+% of MMO’s allow players to do it, and there seems to be nothing hugely unethical about it.

I just wanted to make sure I won;t get banned for making a ton of cash on TP.

Also, would have just read ToS, but I was having a hard time finding them.
