Apparently it only starts giving buffs after you’ve been in combat for 10 seconds.
Fairly new player here, just starting to use Portal in tournaments and I’m wondering what other more experienced mesmers usually do with it.
For example with Norn, you choose which of the four spirits of the wild you are closest to. With humans, you choose one of the six gods, etc. Has anyone found out what these actually do?
So far the only acknowledgement of these choices I’ve seen is that if you’re Norn, the speaker for your chosen spirit in Hoelbrak will make note of it.
I’m not so sure. This happens to me with every loading screen that takes me to a new map. I’ve not had a single one since I started playing that behaved differently.
I see, thanks. I wonder what’s causing it then.
I get this issue every single time I enter WvW
So it doesn’t happen outside of WvW for you?
Endgame is already being expanded without a treadmill. Ascended gear isn’t an upgrade. It’s a side-grade. The gear is on-par to slightly worse than exotics outside of the new dungeons, because they can only take infusions in their upgrade slots. When they add more new content, they simply need to add a similar but separate class of gear that is again, only useful in their newer content, and equal to exotics outside of it.
Not really a big deal or anything, I’m just curious if it’s normal to get two loading screens each time I change maps. It just seemed odd to me. I go through one loading screen, then it flashes to my desktop, then back to a second loading screen, then it proceeds as normal.
Does it happen this way for everyone, or is it some oddity on my end?
I would say that the ingame strength of other races compared to the Norn is actually justified. You must remember that the player characters, according to their stories are all heroes, paragons of their races, much like Destiny’s Edge members. As for PvE enemies, we single-handedly slaughter thousands of those on our way to 80. I’m assuming that any deaths we may suffer are treated as “non-canon” since we respawn.
I see, thanks for the explanations. So from what I gather, it’s the equivalent of vikings getting the chance to duke it out in Valhalla while still alive?
Funny enough, that’s actually one of the reasons I settled on Necromancer rather than Warrior for my main character. All Norn cultural armor is awesome, but the best looking light cultural armor is the T1, and only costs ~2g for the whole set.
I’ve only recently started playing so I don’t have an 80 yet. I’d simply like to know what the pretense is behind WvWvW. The “Mists Warrior” NPCs I’ve talked to just made a vague reference to “the cause”. I’m hoping it goes deeper than “those guys are from somewhere else so we kill them”.
To be honest, that sounds more like a Dwarf name, but it’s still suitable for a Norn.
Velda Frostborn.
(Velda’s background story is that her father is a Son of Svanir, and she took up the appellation as a nod to her heritage, determined not to try and hide it from others while still seeking to forge her own legend.
That said, I wish I could change her last name now to “Grimmsdottir”, after seeing the number of Norn around with similar last names. I always liked the “dottir” portion of Nordic names.)
Pretty solid, though you’re right that Grimmsdottir would sound better.
As for mine, Muninn Hrafnsson. Necromancer aligned with Raven.
Literal meaning would be Memory, son of Raven. Named after one of Odin’s ravens (Huginn and Muninn, Thought and Memory) in norse mythology.
I absolutely agree. Being a Norn makes doing anything feel awesome. For example when I gain a level my guy says “Greatness! I am becoming greatness!”
It can’t come soon enough. All I really want is for the sword auto-attack to be fixed.
Sword has the potential to be my favorite weapon, but an auto-attack that roots you makes it unusable.
These elite skills really need some work. They don’t even need buffs, they need fixes. They need to not root us during the #1 attack, they need to not get rid of our pets, and they need to at least let us keep our healing skill.
Awesome culture, awesome home city, awesome cultural armor, plus you get to be a giant. What’s not to love?
It’s such a shame that unless you show the ugly headpieces, the T2 and T3 medium cultural armor is guaranteed to have clipping issues with your hair, at least as a male. You also have to keep the beard short, or it’ll clip through the T3 shoulder. This really limits customization options if you want to use that sweet-looking armor.
I dunno, I’d expect this with most armor, but one would kind of hope that when designing cultural armor specifically for each race, they’d keep this kind of thing in mind. I only really have one hairstyle option that looks good to me and won’t clip with the armor I’m going to use.
Overall a minor gripe, but I thought I’d post it anyway. Still love my norn.
You find the sword to be mobile? The auto attack chain roots you in place and can’t be cancelled by a dodge. I really want to use the sword, but that’s a deal-breaker. Once they fix that, my favorite weapons will be the sword + warhorn and the longbow.
Electro, the Alpine Wolf’s chill is probably better because the casting time is double that of the white moa’s at a painful two seconds.
Hello, I started playing Guild Wars 2 just last night. It’s been mostly playable, but I’m getting pretty fed up with these massive lag spikes. I honestly have no idea if it’s something on my end that I’ve overlooked, or if it’s just the server.
I got curious and pinged the server’s IP a few times. For the most part, it hovered around 60-70ms, which is pretty good, then out of nowhere I see 1564ms.
I’ve tried just about everything I can think of on my end. I have uPnP enabled, no downloads running on the network, no firewalls or any such stuff messing with the connection. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
