Why would you put important lore in a Raid?

I don’t often agree with you, but I do agree with this one. The story is fractured enough seeing as no new players can play Season 1 at all. They boiled down the entire year and a half into a three minute video.

I’d like to play this stuff too, but I don’t want to raid to do it.

And for those of you who say going into an empty raid instance (which is problematical anyway) is the same thing, I can assure you it’s not.

Nor is watching a video on youtube.

I disagree that it’s as relevant to the lore as you claim. Saul’s current state actually has very little bearing in the grand scheme of things in regards to Living Story (The game’s main big story), and so in GW2, I can agree that this is yet another side story. We can’t just have kittenty awful stories in Raids. They might have maybe been able to do a new Fractal for it, rather than a Raid wing but eh.

Pretty much every MMO ties in their main story with Raiding content, I think the only problem is there’s no highly casual equivalent to Raids like WoW has LFR level raiding.

The simple fix for this is a highly unrewarding but easy/fair to complete Raid level for casuals who just want to get through the story (again like LFR in WoW.)

tl;dr: It’s not only fine for it to be in Raids, but it’s also the best place for it. The fix here is to add an LFR level raid instance for people who want to see the story and get small rewards (no Magnemite shards, or at most a super small amount for a successful completion for the week). Probably bosses at half HP and some reduced mechanics, also more merciful timing on mechanics.

Mac client is now completely useless

Heyo!

I run the Mac client with no problems, had a fresh reinstall yesterday, everything works fine. I’m on OS X Sierra 10.12.3.

It seems to me something’s going on, on your end, not so much the client itself as evidently I can get it to run no problems on Sierra as well. I’d hold off on trying to get Windows 7 and Bootcamp before trying to fix this problem natively first.

I can tell you from first hand experience, the FPS barely, if even, changes from a constant 15-30 FPS in Bootcamp as it is in OS X client. So you might wind up disappointed in your new purchase of the expensive Windows 7.

Some more information as to when the problem began and if you can remember any programs you installed since then would be helpful.

Please, a clear statement re: AFK farming.

Obviously the solution is to do a once a day type thing similar to Player Owned Ports from RuneScape or Garrisons for WoW, but NOT the exact same as these.

You could say flipping the TP is playing this type of thing, and I would be inclined to agree, but I think you know specifically what I’m talking about.

However, I agree, you shouldn’t be allowed to let your pet AFK farm mobs for a long time, not be kicked for being AFK, your pet is doing the work, not you. Just because this is how these 2 ArenaNet created systems have been discovered to work together does not mean that this isn’t an oversight that occurred when creating the Logistics Mastery.

I see a simple solution here. Pet damage and no character interactions from you, basically what’s happening here, will no longer bypass the AFK timer. You’ll still get kicked.

Also, your pet(s) will automatically change to not attack if you’re registered as having given no input in the past w/e time the Devs would like to go with. I believe the intention of pets was that they would be your companions and fight alongside you in a sort of symbiotic combat relationship, mostly shown by the Ranger, but also with Necromancer.

Leaving the keyboard and letting your pet mauls mobs isn’t this thematic.

Not sure if that might be hard to implement/code. Devs?

Well Done Arena Net... You got me hooked!

Howsabout you don’t try to exploit the game?

Ahah. No, this isn’t any exploit. ArenaNet designed this game and all its skills and mechanics. Exploit is a bug or game glitch you’re using to further your advantage despite being a violation of the rules.

None of what’s happening here is breaking the rules and we’ve been confirmed many times that it’s not a ban-able offense.

I’m going to be blunt here. What’s going on is that ArenaNet’s system is ineffective at catching real 3rd party apps, and so they have a primitive “catch-all” type of program in place that detects when you’re not really giving a bunch of inputs and yet you’re still in combat and evading the afk timer + earning loot.

We just need to move some of the 70 people from eXpac 2 to designing more effective anti-3rd party identifiers for base game.

[Suggestion] Entry Level Raid

I would actually like an entry level raid that you have to do once to be able to do the rest of the raids. ACTUALLY. Here’s what I suggest.

We have an amazing place to practice raiding. The special forces area. Keep adding onto it, so that you can A. summon a raid boss or B. make the golem act like a certain Raid boss. Then implement a tutorial/practice mode where it will walk you through each of the boss’ mechanics and how to deal with them. This will take time to implement, so don’t hold your breathe, we didn’t even get Legendary weapons.

However, I feel that if you complete a tutorial for a boss in this raid scenario, you get an Apple or some other thing on your nameplate when joining a raid group or just a squad that shows you’ve completed a tutorial for the respective boss.

Now. This is what should happen. But ArenaNet doesn’t have the resources to do this, but if they ever do this, Raid’s problems would be completely solved. There are a lot of videos around, but its completely different when you’re actually in the game yourself dodging and looking at the conditions in game. The hardest part for many people is actually getting to the boss and seeing what it does + recognizing patterns and effects. It’s impossible to do it solo with enough DPS and the problem is for a PUG you need 9 other people to go with. If you had 9 other people already determined to Raid with you, you don’t have any problems at all.

WoW has a system similar to this in LFG, where you do the trials and get Bronze, Silver, and Gold when you decide on a role you want to do (Healer, Tank, or DPS) and it LETS you queue up for the respective level of difficulty LFG.

I feel GW2 can benefit from such a system here if they’ve gone back on their word and given us the Holy Trinity, and so we need to start teaching players how to handle the Holy Trinity in raids and what their god given purpose is in the Raid.

tl;dr: You’ve got the Special Forces Training Area. Add an update to convert it into a training facility for raids, (which it sort of is), and this will unlock the ability to queue up for Raids. What players really need is a step 1 to begin Raids, and learning what your role does during Raids is key.

ABOUT TO PLAY GW2 ON MAC

Definitely don’t expect anything good, but the game should be playable.

Here’s my specs:
MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)
OSX El Capitan
2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB

I run anywhere from 20-40 FPS on average. HoT can sometimes push it down to 20-30 and, at times 5-15. I tried running it on Boot Camp, but felt barely any difference and not worth the entire boot drive for it. I probably screwed something up in the driver process, because it really did just feel worse or the same as my Mac client, so I went back and bit the bullet.

I also long for the day when I can run GW2 on a Mac Client without issue. Mike hasn’t spoken about it at all, but I’d like to know how large the dedicated Mac team is, and where their patch notes and list of improvements are. As of now, it feels to me that the GW2 Mac team is on maintenance only, maybe 2-3 people tops and they’re just handling basic client maintenance and no improved optimization.

Honestly, most bosses are already immune to anything above a stun. Immune! Immune! Immune!

I’m not expecting Taunt to work on anything except certain humanoid sized bosses, and even then assuming they don’t have immunity to CC.

What do I do with extra Luck?

Luck Essence is a reagent for something… I know I saw it somewhere in game but I can’t remember. Might be something Lunar New Year themed. I recommend trying to find out what it is and crafting those.

Around with some bundle weapons to maybe get a feel for a different weapon on your profession. I’ve been playing around with some picked up hammer on Engineer to see if the melee is going to be really hard to get used to compared to Rifle/Turret bunkering gameplay.

Engineer’s Spec is what I’m most excited about, although I do plan on getting a Revenant following my Engineer’s Spec completion.

Playing with bundles makes me feel really hyped about Demolitionist/Mechanic/Inventor. <3

Think there’d be 0 point to being a Norn if shapeshifting was a Profession ability over a racial ability. The entire culture and abilities of the Norn revolve around them not being human, but rather large shapeshifting humanoids.

No thanks. Not even one.

I like the account-bound direction they’re going in. I’m sorry to say people who like grinding in a completionist way for multiple characters are the minority.

Personally the one thing I can stand doing is 100% Map completion, and that’s because that’s how I level up. Without it I guess I would go do WvW or something. But that’d leave me really stuck.

I think the new traits we got are a good example of how character bound progression when it comes to abilities and traits can be extremely tiresome if you have over 8 alts.

Will there be a Mac version?

SorionHex.1327

I think you’re slightly mistaken. I don’t think you’ll be getting another additional application, but rather the game files will be added directly to both PC and Mac versions regardless if you have the expansion or not. There will probably be a lock on the DLC material that will prohibit you from using it without having owned the DLC or unlocking it with a Serial key. That’s just my opinion. It would be like any other update except it would obviously take a while longer to load.

I was trying to make all my chars Sylvari, but I might make mine an Asura since I find the concept of an Asuran warrior, hilarious not only because something that small can be just as good as a huge Norn warrior per say, but because it works. Plus, they have sexy Cultural armor @tier 3 for Heavy armors.
