combo for duoing dungeons and fractals

in Warrior

Posted by: Spie.5024

Spie.5024

Hi guys,

My friend is going to play warrior for sure.
I’m now looking for a class that is optimal to combine it with as we would like to try and duo dungeons like AC, Arah, etc

On top of that, we’d love to also duo fractals.
As my knowledge of warrior is limited, what would be the optimal class to combine with?
(Should note Elementalist is not my favorite class but if it really is the absolute best, I’d be willing to learn it)

Edit, we also want to get into raids, so I was considering Mesmer

Thanks

The condi build is Pistol/Pistol. Look it up on qT or metabattle.

How easily do you get into raids as engineer?
I really like the engineer class but I wanna raid alot and I ain’t sure engineer does well for that

Raids (currently) limit you to druid/elementalist/warrior/mesmer and maybe guardian.

While elementalist is top damage, I am hesitant to recommend it as it is extremely squishy which makes it fairly difficult to carry crappy PuGs in places like high level fractals. Also I am hesitant to recommend a DPS class when so many classes are competing for that raid spot (although so far eles have done exceptionally well in that regard)

Mesmer is a staple, but suffers from likely lowest solo dps in the game which can be plain painful to solo with. Not to say its not doable, but I personally found it a lot less pleasant solo than in a group.

Druid currently offers unparalleled healing, and reasonable class specific buffs, making it desirable in group content. It can also fall back on silly bearbow for soloing stuff while afk.

Warrior offers unparalleled boons (might, ea and banners) which makes it another staple in group content. If played well it is arguably one of the (if not the) strongest solo class, even though you would likely need to learn to melee (which isn’t that hard considering the amount of blocks/evades and sheer bulk warrior can pack)

So personally I would recommend a druid or a warrior.

It is also worth noting that any advice given is only good for the current balance. There is nothing to say that the next patch or next expansion will not turn the class balance upside down.

Yeah I think for me it has come down to mesmer vs Druid I believe.
To be honest, I think soloing a dungeon will be painfully slow anyway so it is not my main goal. However I do like it when I can roam around open world pretty comfortably and solo the stuff I need to

The other option I was considering was Engineer but they don’t seem to get alot of playtime in raids

Hi people,

Having played all sorts of professions, starting with mesmer, followed by engineer, I was basically wondering what class would be my best bet to play if I wanted to play just ONE profession for every pve aspect. Things I’d be doing include:

- Raids (pugs and guild)
- Fractals (pugs and guild)
- Trying to solo dungeons (and champions in open world but that should be okay if dungeons work I guess).

I know that some people might say that I should not limit myself to playing only one profession but I prefer mastering one profession and getting legendary weapon(s) for that specific profession instead of being a multiclasser.

Which profession do you guys think would be the most solid investment?
I should note I like having:

- Perma swiftness (just feels good)
- Not every build being melee (I know melee or close range is meta for raids) but for soloing, sometimes you can’t facetank stuff imo so it’d be good to know I have different viable options when I need them).

I Absolutely hate:

- Having long cooldowns (60+ secs) because quite simply I enjoy fighting alot so I appreciate keeping my downtime between fights as short as possible.
- Being so niche that I will only be able to do certain group content (like Engineer for VG for example)

I’d very much appreciate everyone’s input!

Hey Spie, i play all the 9 professsions with all specializations in gw2. I main my engineer which is the first class i made in early access of the original game. But as far as one consistent class for pve, if i would have to pick 1 class, it would be the ranger/druid.

Simply because for open world PVE, you don’t really need to melee, Yes melee tend to do more DPS, but thats personal preference, at the end of the day, all you need to do in open world pve is to survive and kill the monster/boss, and ranger does well with that with either using LB/GS or Staff/GS or even dual range weapons Staff/LB(not too fond of this, as it lacks certain traits and the feel is just off).

You can use ranger/druid in dungeons, fractals, raids….know that they may have different builds and you may have to use different armor sets and weapons (ex. zerker in dungeons/fotm, zealots in raids), but its a very consistent class, which has a good amount of range with longbow at 1500 range(technically hits up to 1800), while having good melee sets like GS and sword/dagger.

The pet isn’t the best unique class mechanic but bears can solo tank champions, as long as you heal them(works well with druid healing), so you can solo stuff in open world, while being good overall class and needed in all facets of PVE.

TL’DR: i main engi, but i’d rather play ranger if i can only pick 1 class.

Hey, I’m actually very intrigued by this post as I have mained engineer for 2 years now but I do find them to be a bit undesired in general so it made me consider re-rolling…

Very curious to see how an engineer main recommends to pick up druid instead
Any particular reason why specifically druid?

Hi guys,

I am trying to figure out a main class for pve. I want to play only 1 profession non stop that I can use for every aspect of pve including fractals, raids and general open world.

Last but not least I really enjoy soloing harder contents and I would absolutely try my luck at fighting harder mobs now and then like champions…

I know that open world will never really pose an issue but for raids, I know that Mesmer and Druids are pretty wanted in raids, however I find the Mesmer/chronomancer bit lacklustre in personal dps when soloing so I started looking at other classes…

Could you guys please help me out?

In general I like classes with a decent pace / fluid feeling flow to them, decent personal dps and self sufficiency while still being a wanted pick in raids / fractals. Mobility wise I don’t have much demands in terms of leaps or jumps if I have access to perma swiftness I am happy and any leaps are just bonuses
Oh yeah, should note I enjoy having low cool downs as I hate having a lot of downtime…
Consistency, solo potential and viability in raids / fractals are my main concern

I’m open to any class except for Mesmer (solo is kinda boring and tedious), Guardian (don’t know much about it but hammer feels slowish without quickness from Mesmer).

PVE Engineer, a good choice for solo content?

in Engineer

Posted by: Spie.5024

Spie.5024

Hi guys,

While eventually I will get into raiding, I really love exploring maps solo and thus trying to take on most (if not all mobs) solo.

Some things I like about Engineer:

- The general theme (Love the bombs, grenades, flamethrower, hammer weapon, etc..)
- Love the fact that swapping kits has no internal cooldown like attunements do for Ele as it makes it alot more fun to just swap in and out of kits depending on what I want to do.
- The versatility to build both a condition engineer (haven’t gotten viper yet) and a power berserker engineer (still looking for optimal build).

However, I’m now looking for some feedback on how good Engineer is for soloing tougher content in general (champion hero points, certain dungeon paths or fractals, etc..).

I was wondering if any engineers here are willing to share their experience & knowledge on this subject? Would it be a solid choice for me? The other class I was looking at was thief (as it has many dodges and high self sustained dps).

Thanks in advance

Power pve scrapper

in Engineer

Posted by: Spie.5024

Spie.5024

Power scrapper is extremly strong in pve. People overestimate condi engi at this point due DnT dps sheets that say “condi is 22k, power is 20k dps”. Yet some things have changed since then.

Open World and Dungeons
In open world and dungeons, everything that is downscaled, the power scrapper is better than the condi engi, since viper means expertice and that gets downscaled too compared to sinister. Also the new maps barely have mobs that stand still in napalm or fire bombs, especially chak just run away from aoes.

Fractals
In fractals right now condi engi is probably superior past 50ties. Low level the power scrapper is much better due low toughness. At 50~ the condi will have slightly better damage in long fights, but against all the trash the power scrapper is better. For skips etc, sneak gyro, for utility all the new reflection stuff and aoe etc – overall the scrapper with power is a much more powerful ally in fotm than a pure dps 0 utility condi engi. After december, condi engi is probably dead for fotm.

Raids
In raids the bosses have LOW toughness wich favours the power professions. All the dps calculations are against MEDIUM toughness enemies. The condi engis are rare, and needed for VG, but after the 3 condi engis, every additional engi should be a power scrapper due to superior dps, cc, break bar destruction and utility in general.

Btw condi engi at VG? No thank you. The condi scrapper with traits 112 and medic gyro instead of HT is superior in terms of mobility due super speed, protection in damage phases where you don’t want to interrupt or green fields in danger zones and more heal for scrapper fellows at red wenn you want to save cc but seekers are near.

The old condi engi, has barely a place in the game right now. Yet people have to realize it first. It’s a mass of sheeps out there who encourage themselves with what they are doing, but barely one of them looks beyond the horizon and tries to kill their darlings to improve.

Hi, my engineer just hit 80 and i bought rampager set from karma vendor. I am trying THE different builds and I was wondering if you could point a new engineer in THE right direction? What do I need to farm, get going etc..I have enough wvw badges to buy a berserker set too if that helps for my lower fractals ????

I only recently hit HotA and have not unlocked scrapper fully? Should that be my focus? If so, do I run berserker or rampager to explore there? And what skills do you run on berserker? I only know condi Well! Would really appreciate your input ????

you don’t have to choose tho, i have a female norn & a male charr & a tree man. all 80 all geared. I’m into the variety.

Based on your experience, if all I care for is looks (animations and looks) and general feel (aiming nades, control over character) which one would you Recommend most if I only have time to play one engineer ????

With the removal of hobosack and the new hammer / scrapper spec!

What class do you think offers the best animations / feel for PVE?

I’m between Charr, Human & Asura (Though I feel you can hardly tell what kit you are using on Asura)

What race did you guys pick and why? :-)

If you want more choices of armor go human. And you can go male too. Human male or female don’t have problems of armors at all. And actually 70% of human population are actually females practically naked… I don’t want to say anything but well…
For exemple, i find it’s a bit difficult to find an armor that have a “engineer” vibe on charrs, the fact that they are hunchback make a lot of armors looks differents. I you want better armor choice and looking go human. If you want BG go charrs, but you may have difficulties for find a good looking medium armor (at least that have an engineer vibe)

What is BG please? Big Gun?

hum. I’m a fan of charrs but for medium armor it could be a bit difficult to wear them. If you look at armor choice you would love better norn, human or sylvari. Animation wise sylvari and human have the same. Norn are a bit odd coz of how tall they are.

Hmm yeah, I tried asura and find them too thin when running around with flamethrower. So my choice is mainly Charr (Engineer race seems best fitting but afraid of bad looking armor / outfits) or Human Female (anything works)

Race for Engineer

Spie.5024

Norn male have actually more clipping to spaulders than charrs (well basically spaulders armor float on they shoulders) It’s a pity i love the concept of a norn becomming engineer.
Basically every race except asura is good. Charrs are the ones who created engineering with the iron legion, and they are the betters engineers of all tyria. Others races, less advanced technologically like human, sylvari or norn are just using pact technology (which is majoritarly charr enhanced by asura) and are becomming engineers. Asuras are savants, and they excel in enhancing technologies that exist of creating things, even if this don’t have much utility and engineer is based on battle engineering, pragmatical use of technology (charrs create it for war). So Asura don’t really fits great being engineer coz they actually use a engineery that is less advanced than them but they haven’t really technology for battle use (except golems or rays) so they are in some weird position. Personnaly i think charr, norn, human or sylvari fit better with engineering than asura.

Hmm oke pure animations wise (pistol, throwing nades etc), which one looks best (is a bit subjective though I know). I was considering Charr or Human as my main but I’m afraid charr armor kinda sucks :X

Hi guys,

I have finally settled on the idea of really mastering Engineer as my main class as I just love the absolutely versatility and actions per minute / active playstyle.

I am now wondering what race looks the best animations wise and armor / outfits wise?

I was considering asura but going for a legendary seems like a waste and they are so small that for a pve main I will regret it I guess as it won’t show off an outfit properly..

I heard charr has clipping issues so that would leave me with human or norn (prefer human in that case cause Norn too big and I like jumping puzzles).

Would appreciate the input of all your engineer mains though!

PVE (Solo open world + dungeons / fractals)

in Mesmer

Spie.5024

Hi guys,

I am currently debating on my main between Engineer and Mesmer.

I like both classes as they both offer some fun gameplay.

As for Engineer, I really like the low cooldowns, wide variety of skills to play with. (Always something to cast).

As for Mesmer (I really like the concept of Mesmer), the phantasms, shatters really make it an enjoyable class for me. The thing that used to bother me was the apparent lack of swiftness. Now I was wondering out of these two, which is my best multi purpose PVE option?

I should note I do enjoy taking on veterans or even champions on solo to see how far I can go solo :-) I also dislike having to wait for high cooldowns to be decently efficient (as such I very much dislike the ‘internal’ cooldown of attunements of elementalist. I like the variety of spells but I would only consider playing it if I could pop into water to cast 1-2 spells & be able to return to my previous attunment instead of being forced to chose between the remaining 2).

Tldr; Which one of these two is better for multi purpose PVE and solo play? :-)

Yeah kit juggling and getting the important spells off is fine for me. THE combinations i do have difficulties with? I know healing turret overcharge into detonate or big om bomb into fire field of flame thrower or fire bomb but that is kinda it.

As for revenant I am afraid it Will suck in higher fractals as no condi damage build ????

Hi guys,

After a very long time, I’m finally returning to guild wars 2 and I picked up HOT.

I was now wondering what class would fit my playstyle the most..

+ I like fast paced flyid gameplay (no long channels like hundred blades of warrior) and good sustained damage.

+ I dislike having alot of downtime on my spells. I want to be able to go from fight to fight and Almost always being ready for combat. For example in Elementalist, i like THE versatility but i very much dislike the internal cooldown of attunement swaps.

+ I’d some survivability (thief is not my thing)

+ Good for dungeons and great for higher fractals

+ Great for running around and exploring maps / jungle SOLO as I often run around solo and I tend to pick a fight with most things I see..I enjoy trying to kill veterans and champions solo etc ?

I was mostly considering:

1. Revenant? Don’t have much knowledge but they seem fast paced with sword
2. Necromancer (2nd hp pool so solo should be do-able?)
3. Engineer

I refuse to play:

1. Warrior – Straight up boring and relying on long channel (hundred blades) sucks

2. Ranger because sword attack feels clunky..

Would appreciate your input!

It seems like while I was typing more posts came in. To answer your questions, while the quality of the player makes a much bigger difference than the class they are playing, Engineers are by no means considered good for PvE. They simply lack the damage and group boons that other classes can give out. Secondly, zerker/scholar is best everywhere in PvE, hands down.

Lol. The meta engi build puts out 8k-9k bomb autos, easily stacks 25vuln, can get up to 18 might for the party, provides long stealth for skipping stuff with smoke bomb and blasts, gives group heals with HT, gives excellent group condi removal through EG and fumigate, and can also give reflects when needed through elixir U. So tell me again why engis are horrible for PVE.

Carpboy, what is the meta build please?

I’m trying to decide between thief & Engineer..
I’m not sure which one will be better for doing high level fractals & dungeons..

Also what stats, runes & sigils should I use for armor/weapons please(engineer)?

Ignore the above. You want engineer. Engineer is god for all PvE content and they’re especially top in pretty much all the criteria you mentioned. No one rips through stuff like an engineer does.

Also, engineer vs jumping puzzle = GG.

Hmm I have a couple of questions about Engineer:

A. What traits / weapons(sigils) / Armor (runes) should I use?

B. Is engineer really that good in dungeons as I mostly hear good things about them in PVP/wvw but not that much in PVE? Got any recommendations on what I have to learn about Engineer to be good in PVE?

Are they good for doing like high level fractals for example?

C. Does race make a difference for engineer? Any recommendations so I don’t have to re-roll later cause I miss something essential? I was thinking Asura due to the fact that they are small for JP and also due to the fact that heir hobosacks aren’t that big?

Thanks for your advice!

For leveling just stack power, precision and crit dmg with bomb kit. Youll nuke groups of mobs so fast and bomb #4 esentially makes you invincible for 4 sec. Stick a minor sigil of bloodlust on your rifle, you can buy one off the TP for like 55 copper

Oh I was asking more about end game gear, what I should focus on for dungeons and map clearing :-)

30/30/0/0/10 or 30/30/0/10/0 for vigor. Same thing, all berserker gear. Learn to use active defense like blocks, blinds, evades, interrupts, reflects instead of absorbing hits with tanky stats like healing power and toughness.

Allright cheers! Got any recommendations as to what to use in terms of sigils and runes on my berserker gear? Scholar runes?

PVE Main class?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Spie.5024

Spie.5024

Hello Guys,

I’m looking for a class to do mainly PVE on.

Key things I like:

-> Dungeons (Mostly PUG’s)

->Getting 100% Map completion

-> Jumping puzzles

-> Killing veterans and harder content aswell as just cleaving my way trough trash & farming mobs for fun.

What I generally enjoy in classes MMO’s:

- Being Very mobile (Getting from point A to B quickly)

- Agile, fast paced combat, be it either by fast animations or low cool downs

- I prefer putting out consistent damage, rather than nuking for 1-2 spells, and then having to wait for my BIG spells to come off Cooldown (Rather put out consistent damage)

- Given the point above, I don’t like it when for example I have to wait to aggro the next mob in an area because I’m waiting for my “rotation” to come back up. I prefer smooth & fast paced gameplay that has little downtime and no spikes in damage. As in I rather I have 5k damage consecutively, all the time then having 1-2 spells hit for 20k and then having to wait for 30 second’s before I can do that rotation again..

What I dislike and want to avoid:

-> Being really slow, lackluster mobility

-> Relying on that one big nuke to come off cool down.

-> Having to rely on other people to tank for me in harder content.

-> Slow casting spells or attacks..

So basically looking for a highly mobile, fast paced class for PVE (dungeons & 100% map completion, achievement hunting) that I can use later, to gather (love crafting) & farm money trough dungeons etc for my legendaries.

Eventually I’ll get into pvp and world v world aswell (both roaming and zerging look like fun but given my need for speed, I guess i’ll be a roamer), so if you could keep that in mind aswell, that’d be great but for the moment being I’m focussing on PVE.

Apologies for the wall of text, but if I’m expecting some suggestions on a subjective question as, what class would you recommend me, I figured I had to give you something (information) to work with / base yourself on?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!
