They even went against their own ideas of “level playing field” to attract pve crowd.
Still lurking around here every few months, checking if the game is alive, and i dont see it ever recovering whit such an aproach (slow updates, unlocks in pvp, no new gamemodes, no templates, …)
Which one of you woudl recommend this game to a friend in its current state?
My point was that their behavior in the past is showing that pvp is getting the short stick because its not as profitable as say pve. Pvpers have no incentive to buy gems, but now we need gold to unlock basic tools.
To see first game in a long time that successfully seperated PVE and PVP is now going against their own ideas that made me interested in the game, a level playing field, is just sad.

You need to realise that PVE == Money, at least in the heads of anet developers. I can’t see any other posible motivation besides greed, as it goes against their own policies of creating a level playing field in pvp (only cosmetic rewards).
And you coudl see it in other areas so far, pushing Eports before adding neccessary features to make the game fun, small effort on pvp development compared to pve. I understand some features take long to develop, but kitten your priorities are messed up(Espaths servers give money, templates and gamemodes dont).
So bow down to your PVE overlords, pvp peasants!
Eh seems like a gw1 route.
The skills we’ve had up to now are “Core”.
Everything a beyond is additional. To this extent it creates a type of horizontal progression for new (and some old) pvp players to strive for, as they’ll be able to get a couple of new abilities for themself. However the Core skills are all fine of their own accord, so you are still competitive without the current 25, at least for current meta. It’s not a bad idea in a working game.
It seems to be a lil like a MOBA concept, unlocking new toons for new ways to play the game as you progress…The thing is…
GW2 isn’t a working game.
It is desperate to get people to like it.GW2 PvP is extremely ungratifying. Badly made skills that aren’t even account bound in which you have to spend ridiculous amounts of time to get won’t change that.
If anything, it just makes the game a wee bit worse.
Woudl you prefer lol concept of having to buy heroes, or dota 2 that has everything unlocked. I just smell insane greed, trying to milk cash from pvp. There is absolutely no reason to lock skills in pvp, and it goes against their own ideas to level the playing field.
Just loged in today to see this. First response was WAT. Considering gw2 spvp unique selling point was that pvp is ment to be skill based and having all skills instanly unlocked.
I guess PVE brings in more income, so much greed.
First of all, considering that we had no pvp balance/content patches for about half of a year, i kind of expected the following in this patch as the highest priority:
- New gamemodes
- Templates
This is something our pvp guild noticed 2 months after launch, but it still hadnt been adressed. Talked to some of the members recently and nobody is even considering comming back until these basic features are implemented.
Also, there are way too long pauses betwen balance changes. I know its a part of your policy to try and let a meta develop, but its not working as you anticipated.
When you dont do pvp patches for a long time, while doing constant pve updates, i personaly feel like you have 1 developer working on pvp content at a time.
Remember how long it took to nerf mesmers?
TLDR:
1. New gamemodes
2. Templates
3. “Shave” more often, your hair is getting too long.
9999. ESPATHS! (After the game is fun to play)
