Ok now I need this.
Yes I loved the lunatic inquisition. It ran into an issue between people who wanted to play it and people grinding it for an achievement. I do with the ghosts and humans could one shot each other, and there were more standoffs or more trees and jumping puzzles to climb, offset by an ability for ghosts to warp to any other ghost. People knew the hiding spots, but it was still fun.
I went with inventory space and then a mining cosmic tool that was on sale. Some outfits may have been better than the mining tool though…
Looking forward to Halloween. I like the zombie vs human events where you switch to the zombie team if you lose. I would love to hide in a bunch of castles with siege weapons holding out zombie players, then hiding or running away to live until the rescue ships arrive.
The holiday events are my favorite activities. Smaller events that get people into the world would be fun too. I would love to see Girl Scouts crushing bad guys using cool gadgets and fireside girl like ingenuity.
I think regular hosted events would be neat. It could be based on a poll of what people want the weekend event to be.
Oh oh a defense flag to rally defending groups. That could be useful. And maybe make some holes in the walls to shoot through without getting hit. However it’s harder to get to ladder spots quickly from those spots so it’s risky.
I would really like to see an engineer remotely detonate a bomb off to knock down a ladder and make a dozen players tumble down.
It would also be neat if engineers could build warning sensors that alerted everyone on the map of where the enemy is so they could see the ladder fall too.
So what can be done to encourage people to spread out and not get annihilated by the Zerg? Hmmm. It should be a positive carrot and not a negative stick or it won’t be fun. Make ladder points that are spread out around the castle and can only have one ladder at a time?
Ok maybe it has to be more than ladders. Let’s say I’m logged in and I see a commander, I’m probably going to run to the commander. But what if the commander could appoint 5 or so sub commanders that could be seen at other areas of the map? One might have a stealth symbol. Another might have a siege build symbol. Another might just be a smaller patrol looking for small groups. Now I have options. The Zerg can’t be in all those places at once. But what will the other team do? Will they just Zerg back the forts lost, or will they split? If a small team of defenders can hold off a Zerg attack, they may have to split to defend. So how can a small team defend? Well there are cannons and arrow carts and ranged attacks and wall repairs (make it so they can repair without taking damage). But those can be crushed fairly quickly by numbers….so maybe bigger weapons like a mega rifle or maybe make a large cliff that people can glide off of to make bombing runs. Engineers have bombs
It would be cool if every class had a special purpose in WvW.
Maybe mesmers can’t climb ladders
Interesting thought on darkness countering the ranged advantage. As a rogue it seems like ranged characters do have an advantage in that they can avoid the large aoe damage big groups put out once you get close. One on one it’s not as noticeable but with groups it’s a different balancing requirement.
As an asura I approve of catapults to launch us. I feel 6 feet tall! I love it when my character says that, like 6 feet is huge
I’m honestly not sure what tier I’m on, so probably the lowest tier. I am in a heavily populated server. I’ve been playing WvW for a while now, but I’m usually on my own since my guild is on a different server.
I can see balance is an issue.
Some of the ideas come from a game called continuum where they had moderator hosted events like world war three where it was an elimination death match with lots of massive teams or death matches with lots of small teams (which helped make it balanced) where if you died you switched to the team that killed you.
Ladders would be cool though
I thought the solution to balance was to give the smaller team bigger weapons
Some of these are probably terrible ideas, but it’s fun to dream
1) a smaller map or faster movement around the map
2) Something to encourage leveling / battles aside from the Zerg rush
3) Defense against the Zerg / pack rush
4) events to bring players together – like extra pvp Xp on a given map or events in a WvW setting
5) a leveling system similar to hot, where you gain a super skills at certain intervals, with more powerful ones that work in your starting territory only. Some crazy ideas:
-Maybe set a beacon that knocks back enemy players a long ways or for a long time
- a darkness spell that makes everything black – imagine the chaos and strategy potential
- a ladder to climb castle walls or cliffs in your territory for shortcuts
- upgrade to fortress with automatic defenses and alarms showing where the enemy is and how many there are on the map (from castle to gnome stronghold). People love to turtle (and hate it too heh)
- bombing glider runs
- catapults that launch people then let them glide down
- super rifles to take out Zerg rushes in your territory
- zombie games where if you die you go to the other team (really more of an event with a start and end)
- a massive war event where you die and you’re out (smaller map and faster game hopefully – need anti hiding controls). Lots of large teams.
I just bought the expansion and it’s nice to have the xp I earn exploring go to good use learning cool traits. Gliding is an awesome addition to the game. The new maps and events are awesome. I love diving off a huge cliff and floating down wherever I want. Shooting a super rifle at some super dangerous bad guys is a neat event. The resource nodes are very convenient, especially in the cool new guild halls.
I do miss the castles in wvw. I didn’t really care for the Zerg wvw approach. The new maps are really hard to navigate unfortunately. It would be fun to have a super castle in the middle on a large hill, and it would be awesome to have a skill leveling system in wvw like gliding and bouncing, but maybe tweaked. Gliding would be cool. Maybe bring the rifles to wvw and other skills to balance out the Zerg rush like a massive pushback spell or something cool and epic. I think the biggest complaint is the walking time in wvw maps now, so maybe add teleports or something? But yes, the old maps were more classic castle mountain and had a nice feel, though I found the paths were a little indirect sometimes too.
What is the best jumping puzzle? I enjoyed lions arch pirate cave. Where should I go next?
Sorry you didn’t get the title. Congrats on beating the clock. That jump into nothing confused me for a while.
I did the tower for this for the first time and got a nice chest piece as a reward. Didn’t know about the title even.
I have trouble finding the jumping puzzles, but I love them!
I was looking forward to this as well. It was fun to run away from ghosts, and I loved trying to get to places they couldn’t easily (though it usually took too long and smart ghosts could stop us from getting there)
I haven’t done the clock tower so I guess I can try that.
I’ve been looking forward to lunatic inquisition. It still relatively new to me so I love it as is. The thing about guild wars it they can keep the same events and just add new maps and it make it seem new to players. I love new maps! It would be cool to combine the castles of WvW with the ghost/last man standing of lunatic inquisition.
The history of the mad King on wiki was interesting. Makes me want to read more of the guid wars history.
Stronghold pvp was fun too, but I can wait till after Halloween.
This game is very fun! The map is huge and there are tons of little areas to explore. I like how they made little exploration goals to show off the things to see on each map. The graphics are amazing. On top of that they include a story line feature (that reminds me of baulders gate) where you can make choices that impact your story. The weapons remind me a little of the weapons in FF7 where the weapons would level up too.
I’m playing engineer and it’s fun to be able to jump really far forward or turn into a tornado that knocks everything over.
World vs world is epic pvp, and having bonuses to grouping is really fun. And in pvp they give you access to all skills you will have at max level so you can try them out.
They have some very cool seasonal events. The latest was a race over an obstacle course that went up a mountain. They gave you three powers, wind to let you jump super high, fire to roll forward far and fast, and lightning to jump from one station to the next over far distances. And they gave the people behind the leader the ability to skip way ahead to catch up. It was super fun.
I played a lot of wow and this is the only thing I’ve found that is as good. I like how I can play it in small doses and pick it up really quickly. I like the travel system of waypoints (similar to runescape) and running. Way better than gryphons and flying mounts. I always felt like flying mounts took away from wow a little.
I never played guild wars 1. I’ve played SWG, wow, runescape. I tried EQ for 5 minutes and I couldn’t stand anymore. I also enjoy an old school space ship game called continuum (subspace) – the events in trench wars are super fun if they are hosted.
