Legendary weapons

Just a little post about my feelings, which probably won’t make a difference:

I can understand why this decision might be made, but I won’t pretend that it doesn’t upset me a bit. I paid for HoT under the impression that I will be getting myself tons of new content AND a full set of new Legendaries, as well as a few other features that were scrapped. I might be in the minority here, but I was seriously looking forward to the new Legendaries because I don’t exactly like all of the original ones. Anet is losing money on me, because I was the type to buy gems, convert to gold, to purchase the materials I needed to make these Legendaries.

I have Eternity, and just recently got myself Nevermore…. and now I have nothing else to do in the game. Nothing. So I will hardly be logging in until new content comes. I was hoping for more Legendaries to aim for that would keep me logged in and busy…. I am not a PVP player, and I don’t exactly have reasons to do Fractals or Dungeons… I have completed the world map on my two favorite characters/classes and so that’s it… Guild Wars 2 doesn’t have much to offer me anymore until new content arrives.

So take that as you will… but I can assure you there are many people who feel the same way and GW2 will be plagued with surges of player activity and even longer dead times (It’s already happening I’m sure, and has been for a while).

And now… What makes them think I am going to even buy a third expansion if they didn’t deliver on a promise I was looking forward to with their second expansion?

Bad FPS (Not a new problem)

That’s a super entitled attitude to have, especially when your computer isn’t really particularly high end; realistically, it’s midrange at best. If you want to max stuff, you need higher-end hardware. While the game could use more optimization, you’re also not putting your best effort in to get the performance you desire.

I think you responded to the wrong person. My build:

i7 4930k 6-cores at 4.2Ghz over clocked
ASUS STRIX 980ti in SLI
G.Skill Sniper 32 GB of DDR3 RAM at 2400
ASUS RAMPAGE IV Black Edition Motherboard
Corsair H100 Water cooler
Corsair HX 1050 Watt PSU

Sure my processor is a few years old, but it also still sells for $600…. so you got two posts confused.

Sorry if I sound entitled, but I didn’t spend all that money to be able to play my favorite MMO at low settings. I’m very proud of my build as I said, it handles everything else at 4k absolutely fine with settings maxed.

I find it hard to believe I can’t have the same :p even if I do have everything maxed and play at 4k

There’s your problem, there’s some settings that will absolutely kill your FPS in doing anything with a large amount of people.

  • Shadows
  • Reflections
  • Character model limit and to a lesser extent, quality
  • Suspersampling

Plus Gw2 doesn’t play nice with SLI, last I knew. Infact, besides stability issues which were plenty, it caused decreased performance.

I don’t use supersampling at 4k, but yes, the rest I have up high/ultra…. and why shouldn’t I? GW2 might not play nicely with those settings, then why do they have them? =P I’m not arguing with you, I pretty much know that’s the problem… but I feel like with my setup I really really shouldn’t…. everything is within my power to run all that easily. So ANET just needs to optimize it better. I get a nice stable 60 FPS+ when the conditions are just right… I feel like I shouldn’t have to lower my quality/experience =/ I -want- to be able to see everyone, the reflections., all the shadows, and every little shader effect. IDK.. I can do it just fine with every other game… ah well….

Right now it’s worse, with all this crazy crashing going on I have to lower my settings further to help insure my client doesn’t kick me out at the end of a large scale event. I can’t play their game at the max settings they defined… doesn’t make sense to me and they need to fix it.

I have an i7 4930k overclocked to 4.2 Ghz. 980ti factory oc’d in sli and I still get bad FPS in zergs and I hear of others having a stable 60fps with lesser setups. I find it hard to believe I can’t have the same :p even if I do have everything maxed and play at 4k

Throwing out hours of my life and hard work during large events, because near the end they always, and I seriously mean ALWAYS crash on me. I can either not get back into the same map, and if I am lucky enough to, its too late sometimes because I’ve missed the end of the event.

Happens on all my computers. Makes playing extremely frustrating, and I am almost too afraid to do large events anymore. Not fun at all.

Imagine this scenario: I play with my girlfriend, we do a large event. I crash, thank God she is there so I can get back in… so then she crashes and uses me to get back in. Back and forth of this.. is this how the game is supposed to be played? A new feature perhaps?

Client crashing almost ALWAYS during big events. World bosses, and such. Doesn’t exactly matter what my settings are, it seems to happen anyway.

i7 4930k
980ti SLI
32GB RAM

I am losing hours of work on these events only to crash and not get back in in time for rewards or get in on the same map.

I’ve had people tell me its my fault, and my settings… but I’m doing exactly what the game allows me to do, so Anet really needs to get it together. I spend too much money on them.

This happens to me and almost all my friends too.

Beldin makes a good point, if you have a lot of games and a specific one isn’t running as nice as you want, some people revert to older drivers and can waste a lot of time… personally though, I’ve never had that issue. I’d rather have more drivers to chose from than rare driver updates from Radeon. Radeon for some reason takes forever to release drivers =/ so a new game can go a long time without optimizations.

My guess is that you’ve got something turned on in your NVIDIA or Radeon control panel… check it out?

Total Makeover kits don’t come with a name change, they really should though! You have to get a Name Change contract

Going to start a flame war =P but I have been on both sides and it comes down to this: NVIDIA simply has better support. I agree the 128bit memory interface would worry me too. I would say save up the extra money for a 970… its the perfect middle ground.

Radeon you do get “more” for your money, or so you think, until you try to run a game that has an NVIDIA logo upon boot up and you can’t use all its nice features… sure there are some games that Radeon has the upper hand but its few and far between. To this day though my R9 295×2 blows Tomb Raider out of the water… but with my 980ti SLI system I get all the NVIDIA works options, which are lovely. I usually shoot for the underdog here, but I’m too much of a gamer as well and want my FPS….

As for playing Guild Wars 2… you could go either way. Guild Wars 2 is mostly CPU dependent and any of these cards would probably run it just fine.

I completely understand the frustration here. I had a 55inch 4k Samsung tv and even at “larger” ui it was hard to see, I would drop it to 1440p just to fix this… however, I recently upgraded to a 65inch Samsung 4k SUHD monitor and the extra 10 inches makes “Larger” look just fine =x I know its not a fix, but just thought I’d thrown in my experience.

So yes, Arenanet, you need a 65inch display for 4k to even be readable.

As for running it any lower than 4k, that is no longer an option for me. At 4k I get much deeper colors and the game looks beautiful… so 1080p and 1440p? no thanks, looks too washed out now. Spoiled I know =x sorry…

So I have an awesome gaming system that I built, and ever since launch I just accepted that during massive world boss events, on all settings high/ultimate that I would drop down to 15 FPS. Well I’m tired of this… I have a top of the line i7 4390k processor overclocked to 4.2Ghz (6 cores), and two 980ti in SLI also overclocked (factory oc), 32 GB of ram running at 2400hz…..

I decided to investigate. I unparked cores (which I know is iffy), I gave GW2 realtime/high priority and even still I see that my CPU, during Jormag in this screen shot, is only getting 30% usage… whhhhyyy? if I utilized even 80% I would probably get a massive boost in FPS.

Any help at all please? I keep hearing of other people with much less powerful systems getting a solid 50 to 60 fps. Not sure what their settings are though.

Much appreciated.

PS) I am playing in 4k, but I did drop down to 1440p just to see if it would give me an FPS boost, and it did not, my PC is made for 4k gaming, and I simply know GW2 is a CPU heavy game anyway.

I just got to 30 (well 31) in HoM for GW1, I appear to be receiving the titles just fine, but now I’d like to collect the skins/pets/minis for all my hard work. I hope it’s fixed soon!
