Thanks to all the EB and IOJ players who let our Asian guilds have their New Years fireworks parade in the Eternal Battlegrounds this morning. It was quite an awesome sight to see.
Jeez dude chill out. First of all, I was responding to the OP who said “Looks like nobody is able to do it”.
The vets don’t spawn right on top of the NPCs. They spawn a little bit away from them, pause for a second and then start running towards the NPCs. What you need to be doing is to be standing on their spawn point and hit them the second they spawn. The worst thing you can do is pack in tight around the NPCs. That just invites the vets to drop their AOEs right on top of the NPCs.
For your information, I have participated in this event many times, probably at least once a week since as far as I can remember. I cleared it twice last week on my home server of Dragonbrand and I did it two nights ago when I guested on Blackgate.
It’s not bugged, several servers had Balthazar open last night. I think the high pop servers will do the event after reset, but I seldom see it open during server AM time.
As far as doing the event goes, what you need are a few experienced people who know when and where the veterans will spawn. They need to sit on the spawn points until the vets materialize so they divert aggro onto themselves and away from the NPCs. Be especially aware of the Veteran Subjugators as they are responsible for most of the red AOE rings. As soon as they spawn, it is important that you use your cc abilities to knock them away from the NPCs. There also should be a few people dedicated to keeping the NPCs buffed and healed up. It helps if you have a large group of people, but a couple of weeks ago, I made to the foot of the stairs with only three other people. I don’t know if we could have made it all the way with only four as a large zerg joined in at that point, but I think it’s possible.

From the description it sounds like only level 80s in exotics will be able to complete it. If you take it away at the end of the month it seems like newer players with only lower level characters won’t be able get the achievements.

When you completed the Flame and Frost living story you received the title of “Avenger of the Dispossessed”. When you completed the Secret of Southsun you received the title of “Southsun Stalwart”. When you completed Dragon Bash you got nothing. When you complete Sky Pirates you also get nothing. While I don’t particularly care about getting a title for Dragon Bash, after struggling to get through the Aetherblade Retreat dungeon, I would have liked to have gotten some sort of title to show that I finished the Sky Pirates story.

People in this thread have made perfectly good suggestions of different tactics you can use to beat this dungeon. Can you not take these suggestions and try again? Don’t people want to be challenged anymore? I don’t like this attitude of “I couldn’t do it the first time so please change your game because I can’t be bothered to try again.”

I wonder if getting bad loot is a consequence of having a shared loot system? In other games you have many people attacking a monster and only one gets the loot. In this game, maybe you have to take the same amount of loot and divide it among many players in order to avoid runaway inflation.

I don’t think that Anet particularly cares if people farm or not, but what they do care about is not letting inflation get out of hand. People are saying that the farming nerf is causing the price of mats to rise, but they aren’t looking at the other side of the equation. In order for the price to rise, people also have to have the gold to buy the mats at the inflated prices.
I think Anet introduced the new content at Southsun and people started farming it like crazy. This caused prices to inflate faster than they wanted it to, so they nerfed Plinx. When that didn’t slow down the rate of inflation, they nerfed Pent/Shelt. If that doesn’t work, I’m sure there will be more nerfs incoming. I don’t think Anet enjoys kitten ing farmers off, but it will do what it has to in order to keep the overall economy healthy.
I think this is the Temple of Lyssa when it’s fully scaled up, took around a half hour to finish.
The event was just a little ways in when I started recording, and the final few min is footage of people fighting a champ illusion after the event ended.
You know, I have always thought that the Lyssa fight was one of the more enjoyable ones in this game, so I could never understand why people were complaining that it was too hard and took too long. So now after watching this video, I am beginning to understand. IMHO the strategy used in this video is – how can I put this delicately – not optimal.
You say you start this video 11 minutes into the fight. The Priestess should be half dead by then. Why isn’t she? Because most of the people in this video are spread out fighting adds outside of the temple. This is the exact opposite of what you should be doing.
At the start of the fight, everyone should run into the temple and focus their fire on the Priestess. Ignore the adds. The adds will run in after and be killed by the AOE being dropped on the Priestess. With everyone concentrated in the relatively small area inside the temple, you are better able to support each other by laying down combo fields and rezzing. Fighting outside the temple should only happen when you need to defend the seals or if a small group wants to kill the trebuchets (useful but not necessary). I think if you follow this strategy, you will find the fight to go much faster.
I agree with you about the summoned gorilla illusion though. It should de-spawn when the Priestess dies. It doesn’t make sense to me that the illusion stays up after the mesmer dies. Hopefully this is a bug and Anet will fix it

I wonder if the scaling is fine for Lyssa, but it’s being thrown off by all the people farming the north waypoint? That would be a pity as I rather enjoy the Lyssa fight myself.
The logic in this video escapes me. He says the revenue that GW2 makes would go to other games like Lineage and Aion. Those are established games making their own money. Ncsoft wouldn’t need to divert GW2 revenue to those games unless they were losing money and if they were losing money wouldn’t they just shut them down? He then goes on to extol the virtues of Ncsoft’s upcoming title Wildstar. Where does he think the money to develop that game is coming from? What makes more sense – that NCsoft is taking profits from GW2 and putting it into games that are already making their own money or are they using it to develop new games that don’t have their own revenue stream yet? Would he prefer NCsoft slow down development of Wildstar so they can return more of the profits to Arenanet? Probably most people on these forums would say yes, but is that what he really wants?
The wraith is beatable; it just takes a long time and is very boring. When he does his life transfer skill he is immobile, so when you see him do it just have everyone run out of range. Long bow rangers and eles can continue plink away at him from beyond his range while the rest stand around picking their noses. Eventually he will finish his life transfer whereupon you rush in like maniacs and apply as much DPS as you can before he starts his skill again and you flee faster than Logan Thackeray facing Kralkatorrik. Rinse and repeat several times and eventually he goes down.
I honestly don’t understand how people can say that Lyssa is too hard now. I have done Lyssa almost every day since the patch and haven’t found it to be that much harder than it was before. The gorilla is annoying when he knocks you down with a boulder, but he doesn’t take all that long to kill. Maybe it’s because I have never seen a champion there. There could be some trigger that causes it to spawn and we just aren’t doing it. That said, with my luck, he will probably spawn tonight and I will have to eat my words.
I haven’t found Melandru to be that hard either, although I have only done it a few times due to it being perpetually bugged on my server. People just seem to use cc to pack the veteran spiders into a tight group and then melt them away with mass AOE. I mean the worst I have seen was the health bar of the doohickey we are supposed to be protecting getting down to 90% instead of the usual 100% it was before the patch.
I would have to agree that Grenth is too hard now though. Nobody on my server even attempts it anymore due to the frustration of numerous wipes in the last few seconds.
I think the point of this exercise is that it’s not supposed to go smoothly the first time through. You use the first run to discuss with your guild what went wrong and how to fix it. Identify guildies who are strong at this type of puzzle and use them to train your weaker members. Next time you run, ask for volunteers to stay back and help walk people through the parts they are having difficulty with. This is how you bond as a guild. It might take a few weeks or a few months but eventually the weaker ones will get better. Isn’t this what people have been moaning about in this forum for months, that there was a lack of things to do as guilds? So Arenanet gives you something challenging to do as a guild and you’re just gonna give up after one try?
Sometimes when my character gets hit with the Risen Wizard’s Putrid Gust spell, she can’t move after she gets up. None of the movement keys, the dodge key or the jump key does anything. The only way I can get her move again is to use the greatsword 3 or 5 ability. Fortunately she has always had a greatsword equipped. I am not sure if she would be able to move again if she was using mace and rifle. I only run Orr with a warrior and an elementalist and strangely enough this only seems to happen to my warrior. Maybe distance has something to do with it as my warrior is almost always fighting melee and my ele is mostly ranged. This doesn’t happen every time, but maybe about half the time she is hit with this spell.
If you would just consider having the new dailies doable by new folks they would be fine…the old ones could be done by new players and I enjoyed them, these you don’t even know where the areas are they are talking about. then you ask and find out they are for upper levels. I havent been able to do more than 4 of 5 of these new ones, old ones were great.
It seems counter-productive to program for hardcore only, there is a natural attrition to any game and if you get the reputation for being a game that is too hard to start this late in, you are programming a very short life into the game….servers get slow, then slower, then die.
Honestly how is it hard to get the 5 new ones done? If anything it’s easier. I’m sorry but I have to reject the notion that the current daily is “hardcore only” in any way. It sounds like people just don’t want to put in minimal effort to complete it.
