I’m curious if it’s just me or if the second birthday for GW2 has been anticlimactic compared to first birthday for others? I have been busy lately and not able to play much so it’s quite possible I’m missing some content. But last year when I logged in on the birthday it was Scarlet messages every hour and people were super into organizing groups and getting into these world events. I logged in today and I did not experience anything like that.
So in all honesty what gives? Am I missing something? Entirely a possibility as I said I have not been able to play much as late. (Darn work). But I was looking forward to some fun activities for GW2 second birthday and was kinda let down.
Now if I am completely missing these large scarlet like events do please correct me. I would love to get in on some of that fun!
Hi all,
We understand the frustration over having to wait to receive your rewards, and we appreciate your patience. The issue was very complex, and we needed to take the appropriate amount of time to sort it all out, and ensure a proper solution. We anticipate being able to provide another update with an ETA for the fix, soon.
Thank you.
Standby to standby
Oh Anet there’s an old saying…fool me once shame on you…uhhhh…You fool me you can’t get fooled again.
Good luck with the fix
Appreciate the updates.
Is anyone else experiencing bugs with spirit of nature not casting it’s rez?
I just finished a single match where three cast did not go off. I have been experiencing it for a while. The cool down shows up showing that I cast it but nothing happens. It seems that if I am moving at all when using this skill it does not work.
The amount of nerd rage I can experience in one day was all used up by that one match. I have since renamed the spirit.
Spirit of Nerd Rage.
yea I had like 4k worth of shards and got all greens made me cry lol oh well just lets me know what they think of us
Agreed. I can’t decide what’s more concerning. That they thought it was worth mentioning saving blade shards because of this, “reward”. Meaning they actually think this is a reward. Or, also disturbing, that they think we would find this, rewarding, is a continuing trend with this game that I’m honestly getting tired of.
I have liked this game since it came out but the rewards have trended down so much that it’s pushing folks away. TOL was an exception for that. But the population that benefited from TOL was a very small portion. When I say rewards I’m speaking in general terms across the game.
Save yourself GW2. You are your only hope.

You cannot change worlds during a WvW season. This is from an upcoming KB Article:
A blog post by the WvW team published in early March discussed certain upcoming restrictions on WvW transfers. As of March 28, 2014, players who transfer during a WvW tournament period are unable to participate in WvW combat for up to 14 days. The intention of this limitation is to encourage each player to choose a home world and to play on that world for the duration of the tournament.
When this restriction was implemented, a warning message was added to the world transfer confirmation screen that states the following: “Your WvW accessibility will be restricted to the Edge of the Mists for the duration of the current match and until the end of your world’s next match.” Once someone confirms a world transfer, that restriction applies.
Gaile I believe what he is getting at is that the historian is not showing that he changed servers and should receive rewards for his new server as indicated by the paragraph I have quoted below from the same blog post you quoted.
“Your world association will be based on your participation throughout the tournament. If you play on multiple worlds during the tournament, the world you represented the most will be the one with which you are associated. We are adding a new Battle Historian NPC to all the WvW maps who will tell you which world you are associated with.”
I am also experiencing the same issue. I have been on TC far longer than on Maguma. (I think) and am still associated with Maguma.
Never had this problem before yesterday but I’ve been having 1-3 second delays with skills, as well as the damage and animation timing. Everything seems fine in other applications and programs – Guild Wars is the only thing with this weird delay.
Yea I’m having some really weird lag. I commented on it tonight to someone in a party and they were experiencing same issue. Pretty consistent clipping of animations throughout the evening. Other internet applications are running fine.
I have a feeling that this issue may become forgotten like the SB arrow speed debacle. I certainly hope it doesn’t, but have a feeling it will.
I certainly hope you are wrong. This is ridiculous. I saw another ranger on my team have his pet get 2 shot. At first I was like, sweet it’s not only me! Then my pet got two shot…and I was like SERIOUSLY?!
As others have said the problem is still present. Please fix.
Or…undo the hot fix that solved the pets doing too much damage? Tit for tat? Sure they can do that much more damage but they are also taking that much more.
I mean for Pete’s sake. It’s just gosh darn infuriating.

Spirits seem to also be experiencing the same bug. Even with vigorous spirits my spirits were just brought down to a sliver of health by one hip shot from the engineer NPC.
I can’t say for certain on that one because I never tested out spirits like I did my pets. This is such a bummer I want to play…and for some kitten reason I only really enjoy my ranger. But with this bug it’s just not fun. It’s down right infuriating. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Is there any post in the bugs forum about it? I can’t find one.
Yes I posted the same topic over there. It’s down to page 4 or 5. There are a lot of bugs with this patch.
That being said while I understand the dev team is busy they were able to hot fix the damage output and comment on it extremely fast. A simple acknowledgement that the team is aware of this issue would be greatly appreciated.
To respond to another poster yes I tested after the patch and the damage received is still obscene. Right now my pets are about as useful as a mini.
there has been some pet traits that no longer function.
There is also the thing about how the new guardian builds use retal, or not. Large amounts of retal would explain why pets suddenly seem to die faster.
Unfortunately it’s not just guards that are pounding my poor pets into the ground then covering them with a bit of grass and saying a few words.
Chewmytailsometimes, my grey wolf, has been taking a beating just as much as good old Hooter. It ain’t right I tell you. It just ain’t right slow head shaking
When I say, “Get em boy!”, he just looks at me, looks at the oncoming -insert class-, looks back at me then tucks his tail and runs.
Sat around last night wanting to play but got turned off by this whole situation. Hooter, my pet owl, just can’t hang anymore.
I even tried to play my guard, got bored.
I even tried to play my Mesmer, realized I still suck as a mesmer.
I even tried to play the TP, and realized I lose gold playing the TP because I lack basic math skills.
Then in my best Marlon Brando impression I yelled loudly, “Hooooooooter!!!!!! Hey Hooooooter!!!!!!!” But my owl didn’t come back. He just stayed dead. Probably a smart move on his part. Now I take all the aggro.
Hot fix for pets doing too much damage implemented.
My pets are still getting demolished too quickly.
Help me ANET you’re my only hope. Maybe I’ll have to get one of those life things I’ve heard so much about. Too bad I just bought all those gems last week.
:(
I think they decided to up the “challenge” of the game globally. Seems DPS nerf was only a part of it. IDK, the game just doesn’t feel right after patch. No matter the profession or where we’re playing. Whatever it is, my appreciation for it is dwindling.
I feel your frustration. It’s good to play when things work properly. I miss my owl named, “Hooter”, being alive when I play. I feel like 1/2 of me is just not there anymore.
When I say, “Get em Hooter”, Hooter is already dead…
#RIP
Reminded me of this.
LOL
Dev team please. You guys did a hot fix for the pets doing too much damage. But chieftain is still two shotting my pets…please hot fix this.
I just did a few more tests SubAce, and you can disregard my previous statement. You are indeed correct. Pets are a LOT squishier now.
They either broke something somewhere, or with everything else getting buffed, pets got indirectly nerfed in the survivability department.
It is a problem. Pets are not okay right now.
Or…My overactive imagination had some sort of transference to you making you believe!
Thanks for confirming my suspicions Jasher.

So I’m not the best pvper by any means but I like to consider myself somewhat competent with my ranger.
I did a few spvp rounds tonight in solo que and my pets were just getting demolished. This is not something I’ve ever had an issue with. I’m typically able to swap pets out when they get low and keep them alive. Tonight they were dead in every round multiple times. Is this a byproduct of the new changes or a does this seem a bit odd to anyone else?
And lastly for the flamers…
Or is it just that I’m horribad and should go hide in PVE?

I also ran test on NPC’s in the mist and the damage they are taking now is far greater than before.
Please help! I love my ranger…trying to remember why…but I do
Note to moderator I did start this topic under ranger forums and since it appears I’m not the only one experiencing the issue moved the topic over to bugs. Please feel free to merge the threads or remove the other as you see fit.
Thanks!
Pets are a bit more responsive now, so that means they are actually in the fray more frequently. This could mean they are more likely to be hit by cleave damage and hence take more damage.
You are right on that count.
However I have run test previously on NPC’s in the mist to see how much damage they do and how much damage they take in return to get a feel for them. My little guys are getting two shot now where as before they could take a substantial amount of damage.
If a moderator sees this and wants to move/merge this to profession bugs forums feel free as I’m opening a new thread there. I appear not to be the only person experiencing this issue.
I’m hoping this is fixed as I am one of the hardcore Ranger fans remaining out there…and right now it’s too frustrating to play when the main feature of the class is not working properly.
Glad I’m not the only one. I tried a couple more matches and it’s just not playable. My pet got two shot by the caster in the lobby. Hopefully this is not a permanent thing.

1. Ranger
2. Engineer
3. Ele
“Natural Vigor
Starting here because I think it requires the most discussion. This, simply put, was a wildly overpowered trait. I tell people not to compare one profession to another, but Engineer has this trait as a major grandmaster. It was simply too easy to put 5 points in this line and then be able to dodge every 6.67 seconds. As it stands after the change this still allows you to splash 5 points and dodge every 8 seconds. I don’t think this will ruin survivability, and I think by buff other traits further down this line it will encourge rangers who are looking to survive to go further into this trait line.”
Wildly overpowered eh? Having said myself that Rangers do have access to quite a bit of endurance I do believe it is currently a great asset for Rangers. But wildly overpowered? As a class in general is there anything that a Ranger brings to WvW that gets people to go wild and say, “OMG here comes that Ranger yeehaw”, other than when it’s, “OMG Here comes that Ranger free bags!”
But like others have said. Move the trait instead of nerfing it? The class has few enough, “wildly overpowered”, traits as it is.
^_^
“Wilderness 5 Natural Vigor. Reduced the increased endurance regeneration from 50% to 25%.”
Please do not do this. I understand the thought process behind thinking that Rangers do have quite a bit of endurance regeneration. But as a class in general do Rangers really have too much of anything going on for them? This is a nerf that is not needed. The effect it will have on the few WvW running rangers I see could be substantially negative. I stopped running my ranger in zergs a long time ago. But for roaming I really do not want to see this. The effect it would have would just make me bummed.
Condi necros are tricky
Simple tip for condi necros: Most do a fear + spite combo… Slot lightning reflexes for that combo alone. It breaks the fear and evades the spite combo. Bait the fear, wait for the yellow signet pop over his head then within 3/4 seconds pop LR.
Main things to look for when fighting a condi necro atleast:
1. green reaper above their head – is a fear cast, dodge it if you can
2. yellow signet looking pop over their head – this is the signet of spite active cast, you have 3/4 seconds to dodge that , if you don’t you’ll have alot of conditions on you.
3. most run the pet knockdown elite , watch for when he rushes at you, you can dodge it if you’re quick and on your feet
4. most run marks, specifically , look for the mark with the green smoke coming out of the middle, this is a fear mark
5. RUN ROOTS and wait till they’ve blasted their heal already , then pop it. its usually their only condi removal. if you run RaO , they’ll usually just convert it condi anyway. the spirit elite also isn’t bad in a scenario vs a condi necro either.—
power necros, run 30 marks and slot the signet of stone and the signet affects you trait and slot heal as one (their burst counters the regen ticks on troll) for the short cooldown, having a high burst heal with low cooldown is pretty good against power necros, dance with them until they get semi-low and bait their lich form , while in lich form , eat a couple attacks then pop signet of stone and try to burst down as fast as possible. good power necros are pretty tough to kill in my experiences of fighting some of the best ones in wvw. you have to pop signet of stone while youre bursting, lich form is essentially ‘their gimmick’. if you can survive it and have a heal afterwards, you’ve pretty much won the fight unless you mess up horribly.
Ryan thank you very much for your in depth response. I appreciate your taking the time to help out. I will be looking for all those signs you mentioned at the next fight club. Hopefully your knowledgable input just upped my game a little.

What Ryan said is accurate. All I can really recommend is getting -40% condition duration food and hoelbrak runes which will gives you a total of -60% condition duration while still giving you some dps. You really can’t hope to beat the ranger unless he makes some serious mistakes because that is just the way the current meta works, but you can go for a draw. I know that sounds silly but his build in particular is such a counter to most guardians (like I said earlier guardian has, no poison, little cc, few conditions) that you really just can’t win. And I’ll catch some heat for this, but the ranger really shouldn’t be losing to Necros either. Then again, his build probably sacrifices too much offense for defense that doesn’t work well against Necros in particular.
I believe I’m the ranger in question here Mes HawksEyes. What most folks have said is right. This build played well is kind of the bone ANet threw rangers for roaming. It’s OP against every class I play against except that necro. And the quoted text above is right. I sacrificed too much offense for defence in my duels against the necro. Most necros I do not have an issue with but he had me down and I refused to adjust. I was running entangle which was a big mistake instead of rampage as one. I also had my melandru set off and was running rune of the grove. To his credit though he beat me with skill and I failed to counter effectively. And as the other person said this is pure roaming. When it gets into massive zergs I am aware that this build does not bring as much to the table in damage or support as many other classes/builds.
As far as gear goes I have full apothecary and settlers that I run a mix of with separate sets of runes. I switch off hands from time to time but I prefer Sword/Dagger. I know I know sword/torch is better. But I run what I’m comfortable with
I’ll post a link of running this build in a second.

So with the new sigil out for +6% condition duration have you considered switching end fill down? I considered it but I just do not feel like the 6% is worth it. I have had my kitten saved too many times by that end fill.
Also…a guild mate of mine pointed out rune of the forge to me. I have been trying that out in Spvp and absolutely love it. Would suggest giving it a try.
Thanks for responding. I will try guesting the servers mentioned above at reset. Hopefully this week I’ll be able to grab it.
Take it easy!
Good fights tonight at the windmill. There was a pretty good Mesmer there from FC. Was a lot of fun. Lots of good fights. Last two were ridiculous and lasted over a half hour. Good fun
On another note. I showed up with stacks and chatted with one of you from FC about it. I saw others with stacks but not all. Is it frowned upon for fight club to have stacks? I had my vitality stacks and weapon stacks up from running around.
Take it easy!
Hey are you the perma regen ranger? Im the mesmer from Yarr, We had a long fight, and I honestly think we were almost even, Idk how my stun breaker didnt go off in the end i had 70% hp left and that stun breaker fail or something idk but it went off but i was still stunned, killed me lol, if I could get a rematch before you go xD
Yes I am the perma regen ranger
Well you just got your rematch…1 hour long battle with a break in the middle to refresh our food. Freaking ridiculous! In the end it was a draw because I have 40 minutes left to go do my daily. Next time our servers face each other hit me up. We finish it up That was a ton of fun man. Usually I squish mesmers. You are pretty kitten. Good show man.
Take it easy!

Are there any servers out there still doing the Island Control event? If so when/where? Would like to get my hands on Settler’s gear but my server has not done it in some time.
Thanks!
Hey Jaxx question for you.
What back item are you using and where did you get it?
Thanks!
Thanks for the suggestion on Rune of Grove. I use that now and switched Signet of Hunt to Protect Me. After the switch I realize that the advantage to Protect me is way better even if it means running from camp to camp takes a little longer. The added root on Grove is very nice.
Q: Thoughts on Signet of Stone for this build?
Hyjaxx,
Just wanted to thank you for posting your build. I’m relatively new to GW2 and really enjoyed playing BM Ranger. I had just purchased the final items for my P/V/T set when the patch came out with the short bow nerf. I was more than a little bummed as I really like the short bow. So I hit the forums and tried some new builds in the Mist and then I came across your build. Despite it not having a bow which I really like about ranger…I’ve had a ton of fun playing a variation of your build. I made a couple changes to suit my playing style which are…
Dwayna Runes…I usually roam around the BL’s with a thief buddy of mine and so I find the extra heal bonus more helpful than the fury/might/boon of altruism runes.
I switched off hands so that I am running A/D S/T. I found that this allows better use of Stalker/Serpents strike as I am not using them as close to together before switching weapons in combat. In addition Bonfire has become much more effective in that I use it once I am in melee or forced to melee and it ticks for more on my target. Versus if I were running with A/T I would be using a ranged and likely be backing off my target to use my ranged weapon. Additionally when I use Bonfire with sword as my main weapon I am able to use Monarch’s Leap as an additional dodge and fly back in and proc the combo on Bonfire. (Fireshield)
For utility I am using Signet of the Hunt instead of Protect Me. Again this goes back to the play style. I usually roam with my Thief buddy so Signet comes in handy because we are running around grabbing camps instead of with a full party/zerg. I really like the shout but it just comes down to not having someone to speed buff me.
Wilderness Survival is Shared Anguish/Off Hand Training/Empathic Bond
Nature Magic is Nature Bounty/Nature Protection/Strength of Spirit (the last one is sort of a compromise due to play style)
Beastmastery is Commanding Voice.
For pet I am using Snow Leopard and Wolf. Again it has more to do with play style. I like the drake but the chilled on snow leopard is very nice when it’s just me and a Thief.
And that’s about it. Once again man thanks a lot for posting your build. This has been a ton of fun to play and I enjoy it (almost) as much as playing with short bow. Like I said before I’m fairly new to GW2 so I appreciate any suggestions/modifications to what I’m doing.
Feel free to hit me up anytime I’m on DH as well.
HawksEyes is my Ranger.
